Answer: What matters is the impedance. Most Amps are 8 ohm as are speakers. When you hook multiple speakers in parallel the impedance goes down. The selector ensures that the impedance is at least 4 ohms even when as many as eight speakers are hooked in parallel (and would otherwise present 1 ohm of impedance). On my Yamaha receiver there is a switch that allows for a 4 ohm load and that is the key. You can probably run a 4 ohm load from an 8 ohm driver, it just means that more energy is dissipated in the amp than in the speakers but hopefully not so much as to do damage

Answer: The unit isn't much more than switches and potentiometers, so I don't think it would be sensitive to ambient temperature unless the temperatures encountered were EXTREME. As the other reviewer noted, your primary concern with an attic set-up would be accessibility. The whole point of the selector is to control a distributed audio system, so if you couldn't get to it easily it would be a waste of effort. I am very pleased with my selector. It works as advertised in my system and has never given me any trouble.

Answer: I have to disagree with this answer. I have two of these units and they do control 6 pairs of speakers, this equals 12 total, not 6. Again the Niles SSVC 6 will control 12 speakers in pairs of two for right and left channel. It does have volume control as well as on/off control for each of the 6 pairs. This unit includes labels for each zone. It does send equal signal to each speaker set to balance out the ohm load on your amp or receiver to prevent over load.

Answer: Unsure on a direct comparison. The speakers play loud enough(have broken the 'noise ordinance' of the neighborhood with these), but are a bit muddy(flac files CD 16 & 24-bit audio). They're outdoor speakers, so are more for ambient sound rather than critical listening. Durable too(have owned them for 5+ year). The terminals do rust, so cover them with electrical tape or some other method.I have Magnepans and Martin Logans indoor, so I have an ear for midrange clarity. But the two mentioned speakers are totally different technology than outdoor speakers.
Question: How far apart are the screw holes in the mounting bracket? Is it 7" like my old niles speakers

Answer: Yes if by off you mean silent. Non amplified speakers, which receive a high level signal from an amplifier are never "on". They are not powered. But Turning the knob all the way counter clockwise will prevent the signal from passing through it, thereby making the speaker silent.
