13 best rca amplifiers
RCA amplifiers, in the context of home audio and electronics, refer to audio amplifiers that utilize RCA (Radio Corporation of America) connectors for input and output connections. These amplifiers can be preamplifiers, power amplifiers, or integrated amplifiers and are commonly used in home audio systems and home theaters. Here's what you need to know about RCA amplifiers:
Function: RCA amplifiers are designed to amplify audio signals, making them louder and suitable for playback through speakers. They serve as a central component in a home audio or home theater system, where they receive audio signals from various sources like CD players, turntables, TVs, or streaming devices and amplify them for playback.
Input and Output: RCA amplifiers typically have RCA input and output connections. These connectors are used for both audio input (receiving signals from source devices) and audio output (sending amplified signals to speakers). RCA connectors are color-coded with red (right channel) and white (left channel) for stereo audio.
Types:
- Preamplifiers: These are used to process low-level audio signals from source components like turntables, CD players, and DACs. Preamplifiers can include tone controls, volume adjustments, and input selection features.
- Power Amplifiers: These amplifiers take the preamplified signals and provide the power necessary to drive speakers. They are responsible for boosting the audio signals to a level that can drive the speakers effectively.
- Integrated Amplifiers: These combine both preamplification and power amplification functions into a single unit. They are convenient for those who want a compact solution for their audio system.
Amplifier Classes: RCA amplifiers can come in various amplifier classes, such as Class A, Class AB, or Class D. Each class has its own characteristics and efficiency levels, impacting the amplifier's sound quality and heat generation.
Power Rating: RCA amplifiers are rated in watts per channel (WPC), indicating the amount of power they can deliver to each speaker channel. The power rating should match the power requirements of your speakers for optimal performance.
Features: Modern RCA amplifiers often come with additional features like remote control, built-in digital-to-analog converters (DACs), headphone outputs, Bluetooth connectivity, and various audio processing options to tailor the sound to your preferences.
Speaker Compatibility: It's crucial to ensure that your amplifier's power output matches the impedance and sensitivity ratings of your speakers to prevent damage and achieve the best audio quality.
Installation: Setting up an RCA amplifier involves connecting source devices to the amplifier's inputs and connecting the amplifier's outputs to the speakers. Proper cable management and speaker placement are essential for optimal performance.
Maintenance: Regular maintenance includes cleaning connectors, ensuring proper ventilation (especially for power amplifiers), and occasionally checking for loose connections.
RCA amplifiers are a fundamental component of high-quality home audio systems and home theaters. They play a crucial role in enhancing audio quality, providing flexibility in audio source selection, and delivering a satisfying listening experience. When choosing an RCA amplifier, consider your specific audio needs, speaker compatibility, and desired features to find the best match for your setup.

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this thing have an/off switch or do you need to plug/unplug everytime you use it |
Answer: | no switch. You can plug/unplug, I leave it plugged in all the time. |
Question: | Unit works fine for awhile and then starts outputting static, even with no input connected. I've tried it with several amps with the same results |
Answer: | Most likely people who are having noise problems it is because of ground loop isolation problem. If you have a ground loop isolation problem grounding the preamp box is unlikely to help. Without getting technical, what you want to buy is a ground loop isolator or a humm eliminator; both the ground loop isolator and humm eliminator tackles the cause of the noise at the fundamental source of the problem, depending on your audio setup, one maybe easier to use than the other. To use the ground loop isolator or the humm eliminator they generally come with instructions, or you can google this topic. If the noise in your audio system isn't fixed by using this solution the first time, try putting the ground loop isolator and humm eliminator at various points in your audio system. Also you can talk to audio people and get advice about how to fix ground loop problems from people who setup big audio systems, for concerts and such; if you talk to the average electronic garage shop audio enthusiast you are likely to get bad advice, i.e., meaningless explanations. Also caution must be used when Googling this topic, much of the discussion, advice and explanation on this topic is bogus, you can get a general correct feel of this topic if you read a number of explanations. Also one more thing that can cause a "popping noise" is that you have too much gain, this is a phono amp and the gain is huge, it takes a 3mV and makes it 2Vp-p this is a gain of around 100 to 200, if you gain up the audio signal too much then the signal out of your amplifier runs out of head room and clips, this can cause a popping sound, essentially you have too much gain. If this is occurring you need to either buy a preamp with less gain or attenuate the signal before it gets to the preamp. If this is a problem, too much gain, you can buy preamps with gain control. |
Question: | My turntable has very quiet output. Will this device help boost the volume |
Answer: | Yes, indeed. If your need was like mine (no built-in pre-amp on the turntable and no specifically dedicated phono input on your amplifier) you will find this unit to be the perfect solution to needed amplification of the turntable's output. Don't forget to hook up the ground wire as directed or you may wind up putting unwanted noise into the audio. |
Question: | My amp DOES have a Phono Input, but my cartridges are low output. Can I use this to boost the signal using the Phono Input to reduce audible hiss |
Answer: | No, you can't. This is a phono preamp with RIAA playback equalization that amplifies the signal about 100 times, so it essentially does what your built-in phono preamp does. The output signal from the separate preamp is equalized to a nominally "flat" frequency response and the amplified signal level will overload and probably damage your built-in phono preamp. Plug it into any other stereo line input on your system (AUX, CD, DVD, TAPE, VCR, etc.), but NOT the PHONO input! If you need higher signal gain, maybe look at phono preamps from ART or TCC that have output level controls. If you use moving-coil (MC) cartridges, you need a preamp specifically designed for them...they require at least 55 dB (over 500 times) signal gain vs. about 40 dB (100 times) for moving-magnet (MM) cartridges. Noise becomes a critical issue with MC cartridges because of their extremely low signal output, so good-quality cables and good turntable grounding are essential. |

User questions & answers
Question: | If I have a record player without a Preamp, will this help me with hooking it up to a Sonos |
Answer: | You can hook it up to anything with a red and white connection. Or if you get the rca to 3.5mm jack then you can hook it up to anything with an input slot. I used this on my realistic lab 440 which doesn't have a preamp. Once I connected the ground from my turntable into the ground slot on this amp, my music sounded loud and clear. |
Question: | mp |
Answer: | Turntables (with typical magnetic cartridges) have very low signal output (a few thousandths of a volt). Records have the bass reduced to provide enough room on the surface for the recorded grooves, and the treble boosted to reduce the surface noise level when played back. A phono preamplifier performs two jobs: - It boosts the small signal from the turntable by about 50 to 100 times (producing a "line level" signal) so it can be used by typical receivers or amplifiers.- It also boosts the bass and reduces the treble according to an industry standard (the RIAA equalization curve) to restore the signal from the record to its original frequency response. The Pyle PP999 is just an inexpensive phono preamp, nothing special. Phono preamps can range from $20 on up to whatever you're willing to pay for ultra-high quality. Some manufacturers make "USB" phono preamps that have A/D (analog-to-digital) converters built in and connect to a computer's USB port. Most of these provide "CD quality" conversion (16-bits at 44kHz or 48kHz). These may be adequate for digitizing your vinyl, but many computer sound systems can provide up to 24-bit, 192 kHz conversion depending on the software you use (much higher quality), by connecting the preamp output to the computer's line input. Don't just convert directly to MP3 files...you'll lose too much detail compared to the original vinyl sound. It takes almost no time to make an MP3 copy of a high bit-rate WAV or FLAC (lossless) file, but it'll take you an hour to make ANY digital copy of an LP, so do it the best you can the first time! |
Question: | So this is a stupid question, I plug my RCA wires coming from my turntable into the Amp. But where do I plug the speaker wires into on the Amp |
Answer: | TurnTable==>PreAmp==>Receiver/Amplifier==>SpeakersThe 'Pyle PP999' is the "Preamp". The Turntable is plugged into the PP999 INPUT and the PP999 OUTPUT plugs directly into any (non Phono) INPUT on the receiver. Your Receiver allows you to switch between different music-sources, contains the primary-amplifier and distributes the final sound out to the speakers(and subwoofer). The Receiver should have multiple inputs for receiving signals from eg. CD, Tape, VCR, etc. In my experience those labels are for convenience and interchangeable with the exception of a "Phono" input. NOTE: If the receiver has a "Phono" input then there's a built-in preamp. If your using an external preamp (Pyle PP999) do NOT plug it into the Receiver's 'Phono' input, it could cause damage. I plug the preamp for the turntable into the Receiver's 'VCR' or 'TV' inputs. |
Question: | I have the Pyle turntable and Pyle stereo but they don't work together--VERY low sound--so is this the missing piece |
Answer: | Turntables (with typical magnetic cartridges) have very low signal output (a few thousandths of a volt). Records have the bass reduced to provide enough room on the surface for the recorded grooves, and the treble boosted to reduce the surface noise level when played back. Most modern receivers DO NOT have the right inputs to deal with this signal (no "phono" input). Question: | I want to boost my ipod signal to the aux in of a car stereo. will this work for that? it has rca female input jacks on the back of the stereo |
Answer: | Yes. Just keep in mind that this booster requires a power source in addition to the input and output cables. The power supply (fits in an ac outlet) is included with the device. |
Question: | Can it drive 4 rock speakers from a rheostat connected to my home theater system |
Answer: | No |
Question: | Hi there, I have svs pb 2000 subwoofer connected to yamaha receiver and the output is way too low, i can barely hear that the sub is there.how do i co |
Answer: | Its odd that your SVS pb 2000 (500WRMS 1000w peak) is too low when connected to the output of a yamaha receiver. I have exact same sub connected to line out output of a receiver (all line level outputs are about the same on all receivers) except some are a function of the receiver's volume and others are fixed volume. Either way, when my SVS pb 2000 volume is slightly over half its loud as hell, house shaking. Are you sure you have everything set/connected correctly ? Does your yamaha reciever have a dedicated bass out jack ? Something doesnt seem right. Try connecting to some other line out output on yamaha. Try disconnecting or shut off your main speakers, turn receiver volume to half way and see how loud sub really is. Does your music actually have subwoofer frequency content?? Try some modern rap or EDM music with known loud bass content. Just curious, are your speakers too loud at halfway? Anyway this little amp is extremely easy to connect. Just connect stereo RCA cable out from yamaha to input of this little amp, then connect another stereo RCA cable from output of little amp to subwoofer input. |
Question: | How is it powered |
Answer: | It is powered by a power adapter (included). It was a good match for my needs. |

User questions & answers
Question: | will this work on my camper |
Answer: | It worked great with my YAGI antenna but you probably have a much smaller type for your camper. However, the amplifier doesn't care what kind of antenna you have. If your antenna is inside a camper with a metal shell, give up. Otherwise, one thing you might consider is powering the amplifier directly from your battery instead of your 115VAC inverter. |
Question: | Can this be installed by the tv? My antenna is not close to a power source to plug it in |
Answer: | The Preamp is outdoor rated and you deliver it power via the coaxial that used to go to the antenna and then insert a new coaxial between it and the antenna. It comes with some rubber boots to weather protect those connections. You can then put the power inserter at the other end of the coaxial. For single TV setups just place it near the TV and plug it into the wall. For me, I placed the power inserter on just before the distribution amp which is less then 10 feet away (mostly vertical) anyway and have both amps running off the same outlet. I lost a whole bunch of station just using the distribution amp but adding this near the antenna brought them all back and even stronger then before. The station 34 miles away is still weak and the one 56 miles away is just a blip but those less then 24 miles away are solid like when I was only running 1 TV. |
Question: | If i only plug in the power injector and not the pre-amp with fm trap will it still improve my signal |
Answer: | No, I think you're trying to improve your signal without powering this device. I've done that for my neighbor using a Radio Shack 15-1113b distribution amplifier downstream from this. The Radio Shack unit somehow provide power to this unit and the signal is perfect by regulating over-signaling, which is common for this type of preamp. If you can't find the Radio Shack, you can probably find the Leviton 48210-VA that works similar. |
Question: | If the power goes out, does the antenna still work with the Preamp |
Answer: | I doubt the device requires 120VAC. More likely, the Wall Wart reduces / transforms the 120VAC to a lower direct current voltage. Thus, were it essential to retain the amplification during a power outage, I suspect one could fix up an alternative power source. Absent this approach, cutting the AC power would turn the amplification off and it would n longer boost the signal at all. |

The iBoost 800 was designed to solve an increasingly annoying issue, how to get a quality line level audio output from a portable or computer device that is as high as the audio output typically found with a good CD player. Most MP3 players (including iPodsTM) output a signal through the headphone jack that is suitable for headphones, but not quite for your stereo receiver, home theater system, DJ mixer etc. When plugging these devices into a home audio system, the flaw is easily noticed. The iBosst 800 brings the audio output level of these small devices up to a level suitable for your particular audio equipment. Increases the line level output by up to 20dB for any audio component with an inherently low level output, such as that found with the headphone output jack of an MP3 player, iPodTM, iPadTM, iPhoneTM, computer sound card, etc. Is also a great solution for boosting audio levels on turntables equipped with low level output cartridges when used in series with a phono preamplifier. Other applications the iBoost 800 is suitable for is the addition of a volume control between a line level source and a power amp which has no output volume adjustment of its own. Also for providing the gain needed to drive a long cable when connecting a TV's audio output to a stereo located a long distance away. Simply connect the line level output on your source device to either the 3.5mm stereo input jack on front panel or the RCA inputs on the rear. DIN IN/OUTPUTS jacks are also provided in the rear panel. Connect the output of the iBoost 800 to your amplifier, receiver, or whole-house audio controller, etc. Increase volume up to 20dB by adjusting the rotary volume control on front panel clockwise. When utilizing the front 3.5mm stereo input jack, the rear RCA inputs will be bypassed. Package Contents: iBoost 800 Line Level Amplifier, 12VDC US Power Adapter, 3.5mm Stereo to RCA adapter, 3ft Stereo RCA patch cable.
- Boosts audio output of your MP3 player, iPodTM, iPadTM, iPhoneTM, etc., up to 20 dB
- 3.5mm Stereo RCA input jack on front panel (rear inputs disabled when using this input)
- Stereo RCA as well as DIN In / Outputs provided in rear panel
- Adjustable rotary volume control on front panel
- Includes gold plated audio cables and 12VDC Power Adapter
User questions & answers
Question: | I want to run a real simple outdoor setup. iPod to outdoor speakers, is this something that will work to boost the power/volume to the speakers |
Answer: | This is a line level booster. Your iPods output signal is not strong enough to plug into your home hi fi RCA jacks. This unit boosts your signal so you can. Plug it into your Aux input or CD input or what ever input is available on the back of your stereo. There are no speaker out puts on this unit. |
Question: | Does this work for video/audio capture feed for gaming or cable/satellite tv |
Answer: | This is an audio pre-amp and does not have any connection or value for video use. It's primary purpose is to increase signal strength from ear bud output of mp3, smart phones, etc. to connect to an audio power amplifier which does not have its own audio pre-amp. It's not a stand-alone audio amplifier. If you're using capture feed for gaming or cable/satellite TV they generally have line-out connections which is exactly what the output of the iBoost is. Hope this helps. |
Question: | Will this work if I hook it up to the pre outs of my stereo receiver going to a Bluetooth transmitter |
Answer: | It would depend on what type of source the blue-tooth transmitter needs. This would be a line level analog type signal that would need an amplifier of some type after the signal source. My opinion is that as long as your blue-tooth is designed to receive an analog signal and convert it to a blue-tooth radio signal then yes it should work. I would add the pre-amp outs may or may not be going through the equalizer. |
Question: | Where can I get an owners manual for this? I purchased it in 2014, but just now need to use it |
Answer: | Its pretty straight forward and I did look on line and did find a manual. Just connect the input to the in terminals and the output to your pre-amp or receiver input and you have additional gain that is controlled with the volume / gain knob on the front. I used it because the audio output from the customers satellite receiver was too low. He had to crank up the volume whenever he wanted the audio from that source. When he switched to another input the volume was way to high. I was able to balance the output from the satellite to be at the same level as the other sources. It works well |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this amp have enough power to run four 4" speakers |
Answer: | This amplifier allows independently customizing the amount of bass and treble from an audio source. It doesn't sound very good but it has those controls. |
Question: | I am looking for more control over bass treble. Hook this into any audio out and keep speakers plugged into receiver and still get functionality |
Answer: | Mine didn’t come with a power supply either. I contacted amazon to correct the issue. It was a simple mix up since they sell the exact same amp, with and without the power supply. They sent a whole new amp and power supply. |
Question: | Where is my powersupply |
Answer: | Do you mean white noise? I am going to assume it was a type. If you troubleshoot both inputs as in moving the working channel from L to R and vise versa and both channels work with one wire, do the same from the source. Make sure it is not the source. Try a different device. I mean this is sort of basic troubleshooting. If you find the problem still does not go away , then you have a bad unit and you need to exchange it. |
Question: | I'm getting white mouse only when i connect the two input channels. if i only use one, the audio comes out ok from the speakers.anyone know why |
Answer: | Hi, please do not worry, the tracker built-in USB Plug.Just pull it down along vertical rather than horizontal direction to separate the device from the wrist strap, easy to charge with any USB block and computer; no charging cable or dock needed |

User questions & answers
Question: | can i connect the dvd player/recorder and my tv so i can record tv shows i will be missing |
Answer: | MAYBE. If the player/recorder has Composite or S-Video inputs , you can connect it to a TV with a Composite or S-Video output. Some TV shows may have anti-copy features so your DVD recorder may refuse to make the recording. Try connecting the DVD input to the TV output by temporarily rerouting the cables. If that works, then putting the RS1500320 between them will also work . I assume your TV has an input that can connect to the DVD output (most TVs do have multiple inputs). |
Question: | Do I have to flip a switch between the 4 outputs or can they all run simultaneously |
Answer: | No switching. All 4 outputs are fed simultaneously. |
Question: | Can you have the input be s-video, one of the outputs be s-video and another one of the outputs be composite |
Answer: | My guess is no. Most of the low end devices like this are 1 to 1. Meaning S-Video in feeds the S-Video outputs and Composite feeds Composite. It is doubtful that the cross modulation required to do what you are asking would be built in as it would be too expensive. |
Question: | If i have rca composite only going in can this convert the outgoing video to s-video |
Answer: | While it converts S-Video to analogue composite video - or composite video to S-video - it can't upgrade that signal. Component Video (using red/blue/green separate connectors for video) is the best of the old connections - next comes the S-video connectors - the worst quality being the single yellow composite video - and when you begin with a lower quality signal - it is not possible to upgrade that signal by simply converting the format used. The quality of your signal is determined at the source - not by converting the signal to another format. (clear as mud possibly???) |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this equipment take the place of the "phono" and "ground" that my yamaha receiver is missing, so i can play my records on my turntable |
Answer: | There are 4 RCA connectors on the back of the pre-amp. Two are for input from the turntable jacks and two are outputs to the receiver or amplifier. |
Question: | I have a old school sanui turntable with a ceramic cartrige. will this pre amp work with a ceramic cartrige |
Answer: | Probably will. I used it on a vintage technics turntable and worked fine. |
Question: | Is this device compatible with the Audi Technica lp120 turntable even without a ground wire |
Answer: | The pre-amp takes the "small signal" from your turntable and increases the signal for another input to your receiver (e.g.; AUX, CD or VCR.) If you had a phono input, you would not need the pre-amp. |
Question: | Has anybody heard the u-turn pluto preamp? is it worth paying double vs. the art dj |
Answer: | Yes, if you bought one without a built in preamplifier. Even if your receiver has a phono input, but does not sound that good, you can plug this into an AUX, DVD, or even CD input, and it will boost the signal. I can't believe all the ridiculous answers from people. If any one is curious, there's something called Google out there, use it and type in U-Turn audio!!! |
