User questions & answers
Question: | Usb C necessary |
Answer: | No you cannot nor can you use the mic in the headphones for making or recieving calls ...luckily you do get notification ...and you can just pull the lightning connector to answer the call ..using iphone in normal manner ..i had this exact Q after recieving my unit .. |
Question: | Will the k3 be enough for the beyerdynamics dt 990 250 ohm |
Answer: | In performance, both models incorporate the 32-bit ESS Sabre DAC chip, the 9010 in Black and the higher-performance 9016 in Red. While the Black uses the same headphone amp and analog volume control found in previous version, the new Red includes the latest ESS headphone amp and a bit-perfect digital volume control that resides on the 9016 DAC chip itself. In power the Black puts out 1.2 volts: enough power to drive all preamplifier input circuits and a wide range of efficient headphones. The red with its higher 2.1-volt output will be compatible with a wider range of headphones, including power-hungry, low-efficiency model. |
Question: | Does the knob control the Line Out volume on the K |
Answer: | I hesitated to answer this question since it's about 4 years old now, but I'm sure somebody else will be wondering the same thing. I must say it's one of the most illogically comical questions that I've ever read. Let me explain. It's like asking if using jet fuel will improve the grass cutting performance of a lawnmower. Obviously, it won't. You just need a more efficient lawnmower. The DAC + preamp + plus headphone amp merely will make the headphones louder but NOT make them sound better. In fact, most low-cost headphones (in the $10 - $30 range) typically suffer from sibilance (hiss), muffled bass, tinny highs, too dominant mid-range, and distortion at higher volumes due to using low-quality components. Therefore, it's highly probable that the AudioQuest DragonFly will make cheap headphones sound exponentially worse. As the old saying goes: "You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear." |
Question: | If both outputs are connected, one to headphones and the other to speakers for example, can I choose to have sound only in one of them at a time |
Answer: | Yes, the Creative Sound Blaster Play! 3 features the 31 Hz band and +/- 24db choice. |

Can I connect the K3 with an iOS or Android device?
The K3 is a USB power and data combo interface, designed for desktop computers or laptop. Mobile devices are not recommended.
1. What does the K3 indicator mean?
The K3 uses RGB indicator; the USB power plug in, the power switch turn on, and red or yellow may be displayed in the non-playback state; The current audio quality can be indicated only in the normal playback state: 1, blue ≤ 48khz sampling rate2, yellow >48khz sampling rate3, green DSD format
2. Can I connect the K3 with an iOS or Android device?
The K3 is a USB power and data combo interface, designed for desktop computers or laptop. Mobile devices are not recommended.
3. Can the K3's coaxial and optical outpu work at the same time? And what sample rate are supported for the both outputs?
A:K3's coaxial and optical can output simultaneously with the headphone port, and is not subject to volume control. Coaxial can support up to 192k/24bit and DSD64 DOP output, while Optical can support up to 96k/24bit.
4. Why sometimes there is no sound when K3's coaxial and optical output is connected to the speaker?
A: When the PC player output device is set to "KS"or "ASIO", the sampling rate of K3's Coaxial and Optical output is followed by the tracks themselves. However, most speakers on the market with SPDIF input only support 48kHz sampling rate, so there will be no sound output. For this kind of use environment, it is recommended to set the output device to "DS" or "wave out" on the music program on your computer.
5. Can the K3's balanced headphone output and 3.5mm single-ended headphone output work at the same time?
A: The K3's balanced output has a higher priority than the 3.5mm single-ended(SE) Headphone out, so when the K3 is connected to both the 2.5mm balanced and 3.5mm SE headphones, only the balanced output port will output sound.
6. What is the difference between USB AUDIO 1.0/2.0 in K3? How to operate and make it work?
A: In order to meet the flexible use of K3, we have designed two modes. 1. USB AUDIO 1.0 does not need to install the driver, and please connect the K3 with the computer and then play songs directly. it could support up to 96k/24bit. 2. USB AUDIO 2.0 is required to install FiiO official driver firstly. The lastest DAC Driver is v4.47.0: on our website It could support up to 384k/32bit and DSD256. After the two modes are switched, you need to re-plug the USB or power the K3 on/off to make the USB AUDIO mode take effect.

User questions & answers
Question: | Do I need drivers for this to work properly |
Answer: | If you have Windows 10, your computer will automatically download and install driver once you plug in the K5 Pro (and turn it on). However, I think this will limit to 24 bit and 192K. To get 32 bit and 768K, you will need to down load Fiio's own driver. Google "Fiio's Support" to find the driver. |
Question: | Will this improve the quality of music streamed from Spotify? I currently have my sound card setting to 24bit 192khz |
Answer: | No. Music streamed from Spotify will always be compressed. To really notice this Fiio DAC you will need a FLAC audio file and a good pair of headphones. |
Question: | Would this would be an upgrade from the creative sound blasterx g |
Answer: | That depends, the G6 is a clean sounding dac/amp, surprisingly good for a "gamer" oriented device, people think creative, gamer type device and think its junk without trying it, its actually very good. Its has a high quality dac and amp. If you're using the k5 pro or g6 for gaming, the g6 wins. The k5 has no mic input so that is a major issue especially on console, pain on PC. Also the G6 can easily drive headphones up to 300 ohm, i mean really push em hard. For music both are good, the k5 pro has more power so if youre only using it for music and you have 600 ohm headphones Then k5 pro all the way. I have both. I was using my k5 daily until I got my schiit hel, now i use the hel as its much simpler to keep it hooked to my PC for gaming and music. My G6 is hooked to my ps4. The difference in sound quality isnt big at all, and software for the g6 is really good, you can do so much with it and tweak the sound to your liking. With the k5 you're stuck with no software, you cant save different sound profiles to it. Even if creative SB stops support for G6, we still have the current software which is good and theres been zero need to update it. Unless you have high ohm cans, you will likely be disappointed going G6 to k5. If its just music or you don't need a mic, k5 pro is very good |
Question: | What cables doni need to connect this to my PC |
Answer: | To connect to your PC you only need the included USB-B cable (looks like a printer cable). You will also obviously need a power cable (also included). |
