Answer:	The headband itself is retractable/expandable in that you can expand it by pulling on it, and can push it back down to retract for smaller heads. Fully retracted, from the bottom of the earbud to the top of the headband is about 5 1/2". It might be a little large. The more important issue I think is the size of the earbud, which I think is too large for a child. It seems that headphones that sit outside the ear would be healthier for a child who is still developing.

Answer:	They are noise cancelling in the sense that they cover your entire ear. They have no technology built in to aid in noise cancelling.
