14 best running gps
Running GPS units, also known as sports handheld GPS or GPS finders, are electronic devices designed to assist runners and athletes in tracking their running performance, distance, speed, route, and other related metrics during their workouts or training sessions. These devices utilize Global Positioning System (GPS) technology to accurately determine and record the runner's position and movement.
Key features of running GPS units and related accessories include:
GPS Tracking: Running GPS units use GPS technology to accurately track the runner's position, speed, distance covered, and elevation during a run. This data is crucial for assessing performance and creating training plans.
Heart Rate Monitoring: Many GPS units come with built-in or compatible heart rate monitors to track the runner's heart rate in real-time. This information helps optimize training intensity and measure overall fitness levels.
Calorie Counting: GPS units often estimate the number of calories burned during a run based on factors such as distance, speed, heart rate, and user profile.
Route Planning and Mapping: Runners can plan and map their routes using GPS devices, ensuring they stay on track and reach their desired distance or location. Some devices also offer pre-loaded maps and suggested routes.
Data Storage and Analysis: Running GPS units store workout data, which can later be analyzed to track progress, identify trends, and make informed decisions about training and performance improvements.
Water Resistance and Durability: Many GPS units designed for running are water-resistant or waterproof, making them suitable for various weather conditions and outdoor activities.
Compatibility and Connectivity: GPS units may connect to smartphones or computers via Bluetooth or USB to sync data, receive notifications, or upload routes and workouts to online platforms for further analysis and sharing.
Battery Life: Battery life is a crucial consideration for GPS units, especially for long-distance runners. The device should have sufficient battery capacity to last the duration of the intended workout or run.
Additional Features: Some GPS units may offer additional features such as cadence measurement, weather updates, music control, and integration with third-party fitness apps.
When choosing a running GPS unit or related accessories, runners often consider factors like brand reputation, accuracy, battery life, ease of use, durability, and the specific features that best align with their training needs and preferences.
Overall, running GPS units and related electronics play a significant role in helping runners enhance their training, monitor progress, and achieve their fitness goals.

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this watch waterproof |
Answer: | your best answer will be on the garmin website. https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/641375/pn/010-02157-23 |
Question: | Does this track elevation gain during your run |
Answer: | In other words, not as a good as Sapphire. While the Power Glass and Gorilla glass appear slightly less reflective direct sunlight, the Sapphire is the superior material in terms of scratch resistance and I have found there is very little trade off in terms of visibility. |
Question: | Would this fit a small woman's wrist |
Answer: | The Fenix 6X Pro has detailed topographic maps of North America and also has a basemap that covers the rest of the world. Other map regions can be purchased and added to the watch if required |
Question: | What advantage does the 235 have over the 35 to justify $100+ more |
Answer: | The screen is made of a material called Power Glass. The Bezel is titanium and the case is a fiber-reinforced polymer with a stainless steel rear cover |
Question: | What material is the Solar's pro bezel made of |
Answer: | It is an activity tracker. It will track the quality of your sleep, but you must manually turn sleep mode on and off, but it is not an alarm clock. Manual may be found here: http://static.garmin.com/pumac/vivofit_OM_EN.pdf |
Question: | How does the strength & scratch resistance of garmin's power glass compare to sapphire and gorilla glass |
Answer: | There is no charger. The battery has a shelf life of apx 1 year. |
Question: | Which maps come with the fenix 6x pro? only north america or the entire world |
Answer: | It did not come in the original package |
Question: | Is the 6x Pro Solar Black model made of titanium and does it have a sapphire screen |
Answer: | This device does not track your heart rate. More expensive models may do that. |

User questions & answers
Question: | If using the chest strap, does the watch automatically use the data from the chest strap |
Answer: | In my experience, this watch does not communicate with the sensor attached to the chest strap, so is not a solution. I bought another polar, the F1, which works with the transmitter attached to the chest strap and use it in the other hand. The M430 does not acknowledge the HR beating during the first 8 minutes. From that moment on it goes at similar levels than the F1. I have observed this behavior several times and it is always the same. Why? Don t know. |
Question: | Hi, is there a back light on this |
Answer: | Yes, it has a blue backlight. |
Question: | What is the actual battery life? Do you need to plug it in every 12-24 hours |
Answer: | I'm getting a full week on a charge, using the GPS and HR functions about an hour a day on average, and wearing it the rest of the time. |
Question: | is it compatible to h10 sensor |
Answer: | Yes I use mine with a H10. If you use a heart rate strap sensor the built in one turns off and the watch battery lasts longer. |

User questions & answers
Question: | will this watch allow the Nike run club app detect my heart rate while using the app for a run? my phone is a pixel 5 with Google Fit integrated |
Answer: | NO!!! ONLY Fit For Polar A300. |
Question: | Does the M200 show your calorie burn progress in real time during your workout? Or do you have to wait till you retrieve your workout data after |
Answer: | With any wrist HRM they all use optical sensor which are less accurate or, rather produce inconsistent heart rate readings with rapid changes during session intervals (e.g. high-intensity change-ups, etc). That technology just doesn't allow the light sensors to calculate rapid changes in HRs fast enough to provide the accurate HR readouts most of us require. Some mfrs may claim their optical sensor technology is better than others but, again, those optical sensord just cannot calculate the rapid changes fast enough in ANY of these wrist (or arm) to provide HRs close to what our max HRs may actually be. So, as Hector Moreno suggested, no to accurate heart rate on high intensity change-ups during our sessions and, yes, the chest straps allegedly provide more accurate readings with faster calculations (getting wrist fitness or smart watches to read those HRs from chest straps WITHOUT a proprietary mfr's application sometimes is an obstacle, an HR "roadblock"). |
Question: | Does this have a backlight |
Answer: | The Vantage M does not have gorilla glass. The Vantage V however does. - Mike@PolarUSA |
Question: | Does it track your steps |
Answer: | Yes, the Vantage M can indeed be paired with the Polar H10 heart rate sensor. - Mike@PolarUSA |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does it track or can I add snowboarding as one of the the sports |
Answer: | Sort of.... it offers an "other" activity on the watch which will GPS track time, distance and heartrate. Once uploaded into the app you can then change activity type to snowboarding in the app (you can choose between backcountry or "resort" snowboarding) |
Question: | Does this watch have GPS |
Answer: | yes, it works well for the price point. I had this before i upgraded to the 935. GPS is the same on both. |
Question: | What’s the intended country of use? each model has shown europe, asia, us. this one does not indicate. the cheaper ones have been non-us so far |
Answer: | Mine was for the United States |
Question: | Can you see the pace your entire run out do you have to toggle screens to get to it each time? I like to check my pace very often |
Answer: | Entire run if you choose. You can actually have up to four (4) data screens on the watch at once in the same screen. You can set up the screen to have 1-4 metrics. You can have up to 2 screens total, I believe, so 8 metrics if you toggle back and forth. I just keep total time, lap time, lap pace and lap count on one and some of the other stuff in the second screen. It’s designed to show what you choose to be shown. It’s a great feature. |

Question: | When in "normal" non-exercise mode, can i set the watch face just to display time, day & date |
Answer: | Yes, I wear it as a watch that normally displays time, date and battery life. Then I can toggle thru other displays when I want to see heart rate, steps, weather, calendar, workout, or any of the other features. |
Question: | Does the GPS work if it's covered by a jacket or long sleeved shirt |
Answer: | I purchased this for my wife so I do not use it however I am a surveyor so I do have vast experience with GPS. GPS signals will not be hindered by thin materials such as cloth. Inside buildings with wood and shingle roofs will throw the location of a bit reducing the accuracy. GPS signals simply do not penetrate metal objects. That being said you should not experience any loss of signal or accuracy using typical clothing items. You may experience some issues if the device was covered with something metallic such as those solar blankets. Perhaps a good experiment to ease your mind is use your cell phone's GPS tucked into your sleeve as the technology is nearly identical in all small consumer products. |
Question: | Is it water resistant |
Answer: | Yes, it is...I looked at the manual and the water rating is actually 5 ATM (atmospheres), not 5 meters. 5 ATM actually equates to about 50 meters deep, so technically you could swim or shower with this watch just fine. Just be aware that this model doesn't currently have any swim tracking features built in so there's not much of a point to swimming with it anyway (although you can install apps from Garmin Connect IQ, so perhaps there is a swim tracking app on there).Source: http://www.garmin.com/en-US/legal/waterrating(the "Swim" section of the table on that page has a footnote which references devices rated at 5ATM) |
Question: | Does this watch have continuous heart rate monitoring like the fitbit surge |
Answer: | I am not familiar with the fitbit however this garmin 235 monitors your heart rate constantly as long as you are wearing it. I wear mine even while I am sleeping. It is neat to see my resting heartbeat. Love it! |

Answer: | NA |
Question: | Will this improve distance accuracy on my treadmill runs |
Answer: | I looked it up months ago for these socks and several other brands. I don't remember the percentage of Marino wool in these socks but it was higher than in all the other brands I looked into. None that I can remember were 100% All I can say is that I find these socks warm and comfortable. I have given them as part of a Christmas Gift to many friends, some who live much further north than I do, and they all love them, appreciate their warmth and comfort and have told me they are the best and most comfortable socks they own. |

- Uses estimated wrist-based heart rate data to offer performance monitoring features, including evaluating your current training status
- Battery life: up to 7 days in smartwatch mode; 5 hours in GPS mode with music
User questions & answers
Question: | Does it alarm you when your heart rate goes too high |
Answer: | No. The most accurate way to monitor distance on a treadmill is with a Garmin foot pod that has been initially calibrated to your cadence by running on an outdoor track, so it knows how many steps you take to complete a set distance. Typically, instructions come with the foot pod recommending how to do this, but Garmin customer support can also email you the straight forward way to do the calibration. For an outdoors non-treadmill run, the most accurate way to track distance is by activating the GPS feature on your watch. |
Question: | Does is do 02 saturation or blood pressure |
Answer: | The dynamic pod captures the exact same Running Cadence data captured by your foot pod along with several other metrics that can replace wearing an HRM strap, but you will still want to use the foot pod for measuring distance and speed indoors. Outdoors, the GPS will still more accurately measure distance then any foot pod. |
Question: | How do you listen to the music that is on the watch, does it pair with bluetooth headphones |
Answer: | no |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does the 245 have wrist hr monitoring? my 235 has perfectly accurate wrist hr monitoring, and i would hate to lose that function with an 'upgrade |
Answer: | Yes it has hr wrist monitoring that I have found to be very accurate. |
Question: | Does it come with charger included |
Answer: | All Garmin devices come with a charger in the box. The included cable is data/charging cable for connecting to a computer for syncing data and charging. Blake with Garmin |
Question: | Does it tell altitudes |
Answer: | I love this watch. It does not have a barometer for altitude, but the GPS / Garmin connect figures the altitude from the maps (and from GPS until it looks at the maps). Fine if you're not counting stairs or mountain-biking seriously needing a barometer. Note, there are 2 versions, amazon lists it as one product, for example (Aqua-Music) 010-02120-22 is the ROW (rest-of-world) version and 010-02120-52 is the APAC (Asian-Pacific) version. The firmware releases are different !!! Not to mention the available languages. The suppliers ARE sending the APAC version without any way to tell (in Amazon) that that might happen. I love the watch. I did send back the APAC one that Amazon sent because I wanted to use beta firmware and order (for a higher price) from REI to get one that I know will be ROW. But for most people, probably they won't care, both have English and the same features... |
Question: | I see reviews mentioning asian version of the watch, which they mention is inferior. how can i make sure i get the us one/standard one |
Answer: | Not easily. Amazon fulfills it with third parties. There are (aqua-music) two product IDs: -22 and -52 for the ROW and APAC versions. Amazon is _LISTING_ the NON-Asian product ID - so you could keep ordering until they send you what they listed!!! What I did is once I realized I had an Asian one, I sent it back and ordered from REI. You can see a Product ID in the listing, it is the Rest-Of-World product ID. The difference that hit me is that the firmware isn't compatible - I didn't care about the languages, they both have English, but I wanted to install the 3.52 beta firmware - which is ROW only. :( |

It keeps tabs on your VO2 max and understands how heat and altitude impact your performance. The higher your VO2 max, the higher you can expect to perform, which is exactly what is shown by the performance condition metric. Training status evaluates your recent exercise history and performance indicators to let you know if you’re training productively, peaking or overreaching. See how your workouts influence the development of endurance, speed and power with aerobic and anaerobic training effect feedback. Recovery time helps you maximize the benefit of your efforts by predicting when you will be ready for your next challenge. You can view your overall training load, which measures your exercise volume from the last 7 days and compares it to the optimal range for your fitness and recent training history.

User questions & answers
Question: | is this touch screen |
Answer: | Touch screen is garbage for exercise. Sweat + touch screen = no good. |
Question: | How do you tell it is Asian version |
Answer: | Primarily by its part number: APAC: Garmin part 010-01746-16 ROW: Garmin part 010-01746-00 APAC is the Asian version, and ROW is "Rest Of World". Functionally, there isnt much of a difference that you would know about. The APAC (Asian version) lags behind a month to several months for software version updates, but it does catch up eventually. The primary difference according to forums on the subject is language availability. That being said, I have not yet read where anyone having an Asian model could not do everything functionally that everyone else could do, including uploading data to Garmin Connect and usage of the site. This link will show you the picture differences in the packaging -note the part number difference: https://imgur.com/gallery/shzkPSh |
Question: | If it has the wrist heart rate monitor why do we need to buy the heart rate straps |
Answer: | The wrist monitor doesn't work in the water, which is why you'd want the SWIM band. Also, it isn't quite as accurate as a strap, which is what the regular TRI band is for. It also gives you running metrics that just the watch doesn't give you - that said, if you don't want a strap and want the metrics, there is a RD pod product from Garmin you can just clip onto your shorts. Personally, just the watch and the built in monitor are fine for me, as I use this watch primarily for running and biking. |
Question: | Is this the apac (asia pacific) version or the row (rest of world) version |
Answer: | I received mine on 25 March and it's the ROW version. I went with the default "fulfilled by Amazon" via one-day prime delivery. Not sure who the original seller was. |

A chest strap heart rate monitor (like HRM-Run or HRM-Tri) unlocks advanced features such as lactate threshold and the HRV (heart rate variability) stress test.
