2 best outdoor access points
Outdoor access points, often referred to as outdoor wireless access points or outdoor APs, are networking devices designed for use in outdoor environments. These devices are related to wireless access points (APs) but are specifically engineered to withstand harsh weather conditions and provide wireless connectivity in outdoor spaces. Here's what you should know about outdoor access points:
Purpose: Outdoor access points are used to extend wireless network coverage to outdoor areas, such as parks, stadiums, campuses, warehouses, industrial sites, and public spaces. They allow users to connect to the internet or an organization's network via Wi-Fi in outdoor locations.
Weather Resistance: Outdoor access points are built to withstand various weather conditions, including rain, snow, extreme temperatures, and UV radiation. They typically come with weatherproof enclosures to protect the internal components.
Wireless Standards: They support various wireless standards, such as 802.11ac, 802.11ax (Wi-Fi 6), or 802.11n, depending on the model and manufacturer. These standards determine the maximum data transfer rates and range.
Antennas: Outdoor APs often feature external or detachable antennas to optimize signal strength and coverage. Multiple antennas can be used for beamforming, which focuses the signal in specific directions.
Power over Ethernet (PoE): Many outdoor access points support PoE, allowing them to receive both data and power through a single Ethernet cable. This simplifies installation and eliminates the need for separate power sources.
Security Features: Security is crucial for outdoor wireless networks. Outdoor access points support encryption protocols like WPA3 and offer features like VLAN support, guest networks, and firewall capabilities to protect the network and user data.
Mesh Networking: Some outdoor access points support mesh networking, allowing them to create a self-healing network by connecting to other access points wirelessly. This improves network resilience and coverage.
Management: These devices can be managed remotely through network management software or cloud-based platforms, making it easier to monitor and configure them, even when located in remote outdoor areas.
Deployment Scenarios: Outdoor access points are used in various scenarios, including providing Wi-Fi coverage for outdoor events, connecting remote buildings, extending Wi-Fi coverage to outdoor seating areas at restaurants, and enabling wireless access for IoT devices in industrial environments.
Regulatory Compliance: Outdoor access points must adhere to regulatory guidelines for RF emissions and frequencies specific to the region or country where they are deployed.
When selecting an outdoor access point, it's essential to consider factors such as the required coverage area, the number of concurrent users, the desired data transfer rates, and the environmental conditions. Proper placement and configuration are also critical to achieving optimal performance in outdoor Wi-Fi networks.

User questions & answers
Question: | What's in the in the box |
Answer: | - AP - Mounting plate for AP - Hardware - PoE injector - PoE injector mounting plate - Manual |
Question: | Is this version |
Answer: | I believe you are referring to the EAP245. Amazon sells both version 1 and version 3. The V1 model does not have the "wavy" cover design. It has a smooth cover with rounded corners. The V3 device is identical in appearance to the EAP225. The EAP245V3 is a "wave 2" AP, which is the latest technology used for environments with multiple APs and multiple simultaneous clients. |
Question: | Is this what I would use to extend my home wifi out to my she-shed where I work |
Answer: | For the reviews that say you need a bridge, this is not necessarily true. I mounted this access point 120 from my guest cabin. Wifi signal works great in the cabin. (see my full review) So this unit can work to extend WIFI to a she-shed under the right conditions. |
Question: | Does the tp-link eap110-outdoor v3 n300 come with the poe injector |
Answer: | Yes. It came with a PoE injector. |
