13 best tp link ethernet adapter

TP-Link is a well-known brand in the field of networking products and computer accessories. They offer a range of networking solutions, including Ethernet adapters, and among these, you can find Powerline Network Adapters. Here's what you need to know about TP-Link Ethernet adapters, specifically their Powerline Network Adapters:

  1. Powerline Network Adapters: TP-Link's Powerline Network Adapters are devices that enable you to extend your home network using your existing electrical wiring. They are part of the broader category of powerline communication devices.

  2. How They Work: Powerline Network Adapters work by using the electrical wiring in your home to transmit data signals. You typically need at least two adapters: one connected to your router and the other in the room where you want to expand your network. They communicate with each other through the electrical wiring.

  3. Easy Setup: TP-Link's Powerline Network Adapters are known for their easy setup. You plug one adapter into a power outlet near your router and connect it to the router using an Ethernet cable. Then, you plug the other adapter into a power outlet in the room where you need a network connection. You can then connect devices in that room to the adapter via Ethernet cables.

  4. Internet Connectivity: These adapters are ideal for extending your internet connection to areas of your home where Wi-Fi signals may not be strong enough or may have dead spots.

  5. Speed and Performance: TP-Link offers a variety of Powerline Network Adapters with different speeds and performance levels. The speed you need depends on your internet plan and the types of activities you'll be using the network for (e.g., streaming, gaming, or basic web browsing).

  6. Security: TP-Link Powerline Adapters typically come with built-in encryption features to secure your network traffic and protect your data.

  7. Compatibility: TP-Link's adapters are often compatible with other brands of powerline adapters that use the same industry standards, such as HomePlug AV or HomePlug AV2.

  8. Range Extenders: Some TP-Link Powerline Adapters also function as Wi-Fi range extenders, which means they not only provide Ethernet ports but also create a Wi-Fi network in the room where they are installed.

  9. Variety: TP-Link offers a range of models and configurations to suit different network needs, including single Ethernet port adapters and those with multiple ports or built-in Wi-Fi capabilities.

TP-Link Ethernet adapters, including their Powerline Network Adapters, are designed to provide convenient and reliable network connectivity solutions for homes and businesses. They are particularly useful in situations where Wi-Fi signals may not be sufficient for consistent internet access or where running Ethernet cables is not feasible.

User questions & answers

Question: Has anyone tried this setup with an extra wireless router at the end
Answer: Yes. I have a Linsys N on mine. You have to disable the DHCP on the slave router. Also you need to assign a static IP on the router. Use something like 192.168.1.250. Then only plug into the ports with the line from the wall unit and not into the internet/supply port. If you have a 4 port router with 1 internet port, you have to use one of the ports for the service so you can hook up 3 other direct connects. You then have to rename the wireless on the "slave" router to exactly match any other wireless providing service same with password. You need to make it a duplicate router. Good luck
Question: How secure this is? I assume it is not just limited to your house's internal circuit. Could it be accessed from outside the internal house circuit
Answer: These systems are hackable, but it takes a lot of work by a good hacker. Here's an excellent treatise on this subject: bentasker dot co dot uk/documentation/security/282-infiltrating-a-network-via-powerline-homeplugav-adapters As this treatise says at the end, TP-Link has released a firmware update to fix this issue, and that new items leaving the factory would not be affected. Users with affected devices can download the firmware update from tp-link dot com/en/.
Question: Can you add additional powerline devices to network
Answer: Of course you can but remember the speed its divided in the number of devices conected. your maximin badwith will allways be 500 mbps in the powerline network
Question: So this is a wifi repeater and it turns your electrical system into ethernet cable too
Answer: The TL-WPA4220 KIT allows you to expand your home's Ethernet connectivity using the existing electrical wiring within your walls, while also providing Wi-Fi signal broadcast at the Powerline Wi-Fi Adapter (TL-WPA4220) location. Simply plug the TL-PA4010 (smaller unit) into a wall outlet near your router and connect it to the router via Ethernet, then plug the TL-WPA4220 unit into a wall outlet at the desired location. Power line products in general, transmit data through the power line of your house. The power line rate is mainly decided by the quality of power line environment it’s operating in. When your power line rate is low, you may try the steps below to improve the quality of service.

Step 1:

Please check whether your powerline adapters are plugged directly into a wall outlet. If not, please move the adapters to an outlet on the wall.

Step 2:

Please check if there are electrical devices, which have a motor inside them, around the powerline adapters. Such equipment can be air-conditioners, washing-machines, electric-fans etc.. Please move such equipment to another location if possible, or move powerline adapters away from such equipment. You may also buy a surge protector and plug such equipments to its outlets to avoid any interference they may cause.

Step 3:

Please check if there are AC power adapters, such as those used for mobile phones, laptops or something else around the adapters. If the quality of AC power adapter is not good, it may cause noise on the power line circuit. Please move it to another place away from the powerline adapters.

Step 4:

Please check if the distance between the adapters is too long. In theory, the maximum distance is 300 meters. However, with interference and line quality, it will be hard to reach the full 300 meters.

User questions & answers

Question: If your switch/modem is far from the security camera...would the use of a poe injector and a powerline adapter be "in therory" the same as hardwiring
Answer: Late response, but No, not equal to hardwiring. You'll have much less bandwidth/speed drop with hardwire. Powerline depends on how far the breakers are and overall system layout.
Question: If my router supports mimo and link aggregation, can i plug both ethernet ports into my router to increase bandwidth to the powerline network
Answer: No. The device internally uses MIMO between the endpoints to increase speed, and the 2 ports are essentially a switch (i believe the powerline is just another 'switch' leg). But it does not allow you to bind the ports together as a link. Frankly, I 'only' get about 250-350Mbps through the devices even with Gigabit Ethernet connected, so even if it did support it you'd get nowhere NEAR the expected speed increase.
Question: Can I add a third device to extend my ethernet to another floor
Answer: I have router on 2nd floor, my PC and NAS on the first. The whole idea was to cover house with wifi and not to run the wire to PC and NAS and it works fine.
Question: Will these work in a house with no grounds? None of the outlets in my house have a ground wire
Answer: They will not fully work in your situation. The MIMO technology, where they talk about having two separate data streams between the devices, requires a ground plug. This is because one of the data streams goes over the actual electrical circuit that is delivering power, and the other over the ground wire. So even if it were to work with one of your adapters for three prong devices, you would be paying more for performance that you will never ever get, since you'd be buying a two stream device and your wiring is incapable of delivering more than one stream. Some of the other TP-Link kits that aren't MIMO (usually advertised as 500-600 mbps), such as the one I have, deliver only one stream and have only two prongs. They are also a lot cheaper. Don't buy this if your wiring doesn't have a ground wire as you are wasting your money. Buy one of the cheaper kits. All of my wiring has ground wires, so I can't say how well the two prong designs will work with your older wiring. But at least you won't be wasting money on something guaranteed to never fully perform.

User questions & answers

Question: Is this backward compatible with Earlier Versions
Answer: Yes, you may add more units to your HomePlug network. However, it will not just work out of the box. You must follow the manufacturers instructions on adding an additional adapter, which involves pressing a button on one of the existing units to initiate a "pairing" mode that shares the encryption key with the new adapter. This may or may not break your existing pair's link, but then it's as simple as sharing the encryption key again using the same procedure. I at one time had four different adapters all connected to each other in my house. The safest bet to get the most speed and reliability is to get another adapter of the exact same make/model. But they usually aren't sold individually...
Question: Is it backwards compatible with ethernet
Answer: These are not either a transmitter or a receiver, they are transceivers. Each unit both transmits and receives. You can have multiple units and they will all communicate with each other. Specs say "Max. group node up to 14 nodes".
Question: Is this a pair or just one unit
Answer: Short answer NO.Long: You will lose approximate 20dB for each circuit breaker you pass over, since 10 elec outlets can be on ONE (1) circuit, it is possible to have electrical outlets used for powerline can be on more than one circuit (most times unless long distances involved, 40dB loss will not be a problem,, compared with running cat5e or cat6 with new ethernet wire) ,, Electrical interference is larger issue depending on what's being used on 20 elect. outlets on 2 circuits,, than 40dB of so loss in signal The electrical devices on outlets in circuit can cause interference (normal root of folks unhappy but it is POSSIBLE to prevent hair dryer from being used when using etc. MOST unlikely to use more than two circuits BUT it depends on your home.. apartment etc. (Which is why when my home was remodeled. personally INSISTED the electrician use two electrical outlets on wall where entertainment center sits, EACH outlet has it's own circuit on the main elect. panel.. NO other outlets, switches etc on either of those two circuits... Most panels are large enough to do this when place is built. Doing outlets for stereo/tv/ sound system/ etc. on their own CIRCUIT at panel, good idea even when NOT using powerline that prevents issues with sound systems, tv, etc. -advantage of being General Contractor experienced with buildings,, still get burned ,,, as later found out he wired a LOT of outlets in multiple rooms, including refrig outlet....
Question: I have this product and want to add more receivers what do I purchase
Answer: These modulate a WiFi signal(b,g,ac) on top of the existing electrical wiring in your building or home. Essentially using the wiring as both the antennae and the medium through which it transmits. You won’t see the signal on WiFi devices as it doesn’t transmit very far outside of the electrical wiring. By modulating the signal onto the wiring it reduces interfernce from other sources of 2.4Ghz radio waves, such as a microwave or other WiFi access points, it’s more secure, and has slightly reduced latency versus WiFi. Each plug you add will have the same effect as normal WiFi devices by halving each device’s bandwidth and slightly increasing network latency. It’s not as good as a wired ethernet connection but is orders of magnitude better than a standard WiFi connection. Another solution would be wireless a mesh networks using separate 5Ghz backhaul radios. But for one or two point-to-point connections, this is still the best option short of running cat6 through your attic.

Question: Does this device work with ubuntu linux out of the box or do I need to manually compile the driver? Or other distros
Answer: I'm using it on Linux Mint Mate 18.3. The r-8169 driver that wants to load drove me nuts, it worked but researching showed many problems with Realtek r-8169 driver. I'm looking for a stable Plex Server and in the end compiled my driver own using info from https://unixblogger.com/2016/08/11/how-to-get-your-realtek-rtl8111rtl8168-working-updated-guide/ I downloaded current Realtek r8168 driver and compiled with info from there. Be aware the r-8169 driver will need to be Blacklisted all info is there if you have the nerve. User questions & answers

Question: I cannot tell by description or pictures. Does this come with 1 or 2 units? Thanks
Answer: Consider the av2 2000s as connecting Ethernet cables. So, they can do anything that a long enough Ethernet can do.
Question: So I just want to clarify that this product will give my wifi a boost in speed also
Answer: It contains one power line adapter, and a power line wifi adapter. If you need two wi-fi adapters, then you'll need to purchase a second kit or find another option.
Question: How many devices are in this package tl-pa8010 kit? do they form a complete set
Answer: Not sure exactly what you are looking for here. The device itself should not be a major source of latency. WiFi might be a slight source. For links using the power line, I have found this to be excellent: D-Link Powerline Adapter Pass Through Extender Ethernet Over Power Gigabit AV2 Up to 2000Mbps MIMO Internet Network Plug in (DHP-P701AV)
Question: Does the tl-pa8010 block the top outlet when plugged in the wall just like the tl-pa8010p (pasthrough) does
Answer: Hi, Thanks for your interest in D-Link products! These units are HomePlug AV2 MIMO devices. HomePlug AV2 MIMO adapters will work with two-prong outlets, but they’ll fall back to SISO mode (single input/single output) and deliver less throughput, than if you have a 3-prong outlet that's properly grounded. Let us know if you have any other questions. Best regards, D-Link Customer Support

User questions & answers

Question: Does this support authencation, i know some support aes to make sure that the only the adapters you want to pair are paired
Answer: There's no wireless-type broadcasting involved, it's all hard wire traffic. For an apartment building where multiple users would be able to access the same power network in that building, the only info given is when using the your two devices in that situation, put one into pairing mode and then do the same for the other device to pair with. The devices take it from there and only share between themselves. No info is provided with the units to reveal the encryption between paired devices. You may need to contact the manufacturer for anymore detail than that.
Question: Does this block both electrical outlets? One review stated the unit was so big that it blocked part of the outlet above. Is this true for everyone
Answer: It will block the outlet above but you an either plug the powerline adapter to a short 6" extension cord pigtail (must have grounding pin) or plug a surge protector with the number of outlets needed into the pass through outlet of the adapter. I had to do both in fact. One of my media / data wall outlets was recessed into the wall and I needed to use the short pigtail to connect the powerline adapted. I also used a large surge protector plugged into the bypass outlet of the adapter behind my tv stand for all the electronics. Worked out great. Hope this helps. Here is a pigtail example: https://www.amazon.com/Uninex-Thick-Liberator-Extension-Grounded/dp/B01FN4R8AW/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1511275135&sr=8-8&keywords=extension+cord+pigtail
Question: Can I use more than two of them at home? If I buy two pairs (4 in total) and connect one to modem, will I get Internet connection from the other
Answer: Yes. I have 4 (2 8010 and 2 8030). All work at the same time, the 8030 have multiple systems attached as well.
Question: It says it has to be on the same circuit. Houses can have 40 circuits in them (40 breaker panel). How can this work to the other side of the house
Answer: Boarderchick is correct. Your house has two 110 volt electrical circuits. Each circuit has numerous branches fed by the circuit breakers. If you put both devices on branches of the same 110 volt circuit, the signal will travel from the transmitter through the house wiring back to the breaker panel, through two breakers, and through the house wiring to the receiver. If you put the transmitter and receiver on different 110 volt circuits, there is no path in the breaker panel to connect them. The signal would have to travel out of your house to the transformer on the utility pole or connect through a 220 volt appliance to get to the other 110 volt circuit. They make capacitive signal couplers that can be plugged in to a 220 volt receptacle or hard wired in the breaker panel that will allow high frequency signals to pass between the 110 volt circuits. X10 uses them as do others.

Question: Well this work with another power line adapter vendor
Answer: Haven’t tried but I’d doubt it.
Question: If the add-on unit is not available, can i just purchase another tl-pa7017 to expand the network
