13 best fios modem routers
A FiOS modem-router is a networking device used in FiOS (Fiber Optic Service) internet connections, primarily provided by Verizon in the United States. These devices are essential for connecting your home to the FiOS network and distributing internet access throughout your home. Here is some information about FiOS modem-routers:
Integrated Modem and Router: A FiOS modem-router combines the functionality of a modem and a router in a single device. The modem component connects to the fiber optic network and translates the optical signal into an internet connection that can be used by your devices. The router component then manages the local network and provides Wi-Fi connectivity.
Fiber Optic Technology: FiOS is known for its high-speed internet access using fiber optic cables. This technology offers faster and more reliable internet connections compared to traditional DSL or cable connections.
Compatibility: FiOS modem-routers are often provided by the internet service provider (ISP), such as Verizon, to ensure compatibility with their network. These devices are configured to work seamlessly with FiOS services.
Wi-Fi Connectivity: FiOS modem-routers typically include Wi-Fi capabilities, allowing you to create a wireless network in your home. They often support the latest Wi-Fi standards like 802.11ac or 802.11ax (Wi-Fi 6) for faster and more efficient wireless connections.
Ethernet Ports: These devices come with multiple Ethernet ports, allowing you to connect wired devices like computers, gaming consoles, or smart TVs directly to the network for a stable and fast connection.
Advanced Features: FiOS modem-routers may include advanced features such as Quality of Service (QoS) settings, parental controls, and guest network capabilities. These features allow you to customize and secure your network.
Security: FiOS modem-routers typically come with built-in security features to protect your network from threats like malware and phishing. However, it's essential to keep your router's firmware up to date for optimal security.
Verizon's Equipment: Verizon often provides their customers with modem-routers specifically designed for their FiOS service. These devices are preconfigured to work with Verizon's network, making setup relatively straightforward for customers.
Customization: While Verizon provides their modem-routers, some customers may choose to use third-party routers to gain more control over their network settings or to access advanced features not available on the provided equipment.
Customer Support: Verizon typically offers customer support for setting up and troubleshooting issues with their FiOS modem-routers. They can assist with configuration and resolving connectivity problems.
In conclusion, FiOS modem-routers are essential components for connecting your home to a FiOS fiber optic internet service. They combine the functions of a modem and a router, providing high-speed internet access and local network management. These devices are typically provided by Verizon and are designed to work seamlessly with their FiOS services.

User questions & answers
Question: | I need a wi fi router and modem that works with verizon wireless and other services also |
Answer: | The Verizon FiOS Quantum Gateway AC1750 is a general purpose router that, in particular, will work properly if your home network is supplied by Verizon FIOS. If your only Verizon service is wireless for your cell phone(s), and your home network is supplied by another company, then you may not be restricted to using a Verizion FIOS router. Without knowing what "other services also" you refer to, I cannot specifically assess compatibility. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this both a modem & router? Item description is not very clear |
Answer: | Not a modem; but, you probably already have a modem. For FiOS, your Optical Network Terminal (ONT) provides the modem function of converting (‘demodulating’) the optical digital signal into the electrical digital signal used within your building. The G1100 Quantum Gateway takes the ONT electrical output and provides wireless and hard-wire Ethernet distribution and MOCA cable-TV distribution. |
Question: | How many devices can I connect to this |
Answer: | no limit on number of devices. There is one WAN ethernet port and 4 standard ethernet ports. Most people including myself connect via wifi and the only rea limit is how much band width. (speed) you pay for. I usually have three PCs connected One a work station for work at home, two iPhones, two iPads, Three TVs and business phone connected via ethernet. |
Question: | Will it take a Sim card |
Answer: | This is not capable of taking a sim card. |
Question: | Does this work with 2.4 GHZ frequency band |
Answer: | Yes, as well as 5 GHz. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What is the source of these routers? are they customer returns, nib, used |
Answer: | I purchased my G3100 router brand new in box from Amazon. It works perfectly and Amazon customer service would help with any issues. |
Question: | Will the My Fios App recognize the new router and if so is it any different |
Answer: | Yes, but! You have to log the new router into Verizon. Follow the instructions online. |
Question: | Hi, two QQs: how do you handle the network name and password? how do you access the router (to view network users, etc) from your computer? Thanks |
Answer: | Download the Fios App and you can make the password whatever you'd like it to be. |
Question: | I have this router. has anyone added the fios wifi extender? if yes how well does it work |
Answer: | I have both G3100 and fios wifi extender (Verizon price was cheaper) and am using the self-organizing network (SON) feature. You can use the extender via wifi or coax, and I am using the coax option. I connected the coax, plugged the extender in and they automatically synced up. I then had to turn on the SON feature from the Verizon web site (under the advanced router management options). Since then, everything is working well, no issues from the wifi side. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Why does it say 4x ethernet ports in your description where there is only one |
Answer: | Because Amazon hasn't corrected their product subscription. I submitted one two weeks ago and has yet to be done. If you need more than 1 ethernet port, then this one is not for you. This has only (1) 2.5 Multi-Gig port. |
Question: | Does netgear cm500-1aznas work with tds provider |
Answer: | Yes. But you need to call the TDS customer service and provide your CMAC or SN to register your device. These numbers are on the box and the unit |
Question: | Can you use a phone to ethernet splitter for voice to work |
Answer: | I have never heard of a phone to internet splitter, at least not expressed in those terms. However, for VOIP (which means Voice Over Internet Protocall), you must have at least one phone jack in a modem, or a modem-router combination. Some modems have two such jacks, which could provide two different "lines." Most importantly, you must have your internet service provider's PERMISSION to install and use such a modem, or modem-router combination! My own ISP (Wow, aka Wowway.com) REFUSED to give such permission because that would cut into their profits, since they would no longer receive a monthly FEE to RENT their age-old junk, much of which are at least five years old, which is like a millenia in this day of super-fast-paced electronic offerings. I had to send back every VOIP-capable modem I bought from Amazon and other places because my ISP REFUSED to enable them to work with their so-called service(s). Talk about anti-competitive business practices ... U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC), are you paying any attention? |
Question: | I understand that this modem says it will only work with xfinity. but has anyone tried this with spectrum? (aka time warner cable |
Answer: | Hello. I am writing this Dec 2, 2020 and just activated this modem 2 days ago with Spectrum. It is not on the list of approved modems, but oddly enough the CM400 is. I just told the tech support who activated it that it was compatible and it's worked fine with no problems. I went from 100-120 mbs on my 100 mb plan to 250 to 450 mbs, still on the 100 mb plan. This modem is not on the list of approved models but it seems to work fine so far without periodic latency/drops like the Arris model from Spectrum had. |

User questions & answers
Question: | hello, i used the official verizon broadband speed test website, and am only getting 58 download, and 65 upload on a wired desktop on a 50 mbps plan |
Answer: | You get the speeds that you pay for to your internet service provider. The router can do up to 1000 mbps, but you can't get that high if you are not in a plan with that speed with your internet service provider. |
Question: | Can an external hardrive be connected to the fios router via the usb port to make a networked drive? if so, how |
Answer: | I am not sure. I always used as a router with Verizon FIOS. |
Question: | Is this only compatible with the verizon fios |
Answer: | This router can be used with any of the major ISP's, all that you need to do is reset it, and connect via Ethernet from the cable modem to the WAN Ethernet port on the router. |
Question: | Does this come with a long power cord or the useless short cord which doesn't enable me to place up high on the wall |

Answer: | Yes |
Question: | Can this only be used with Verizon Fios as the internet provider |
Answer: | All I know is this was the only one that worked with Verizon Gig Speed internet. |

Answer: | AC means that the router has support for the 802.11ac (or Wi-Fi 5) wireless networking standard, which offers fast WiFi network connections on the 5GHz frequency. 1200 means the max Mbps is 1200 |
Question: | Does the box come with the necessary cables? (e.g. power cord and coax cable |
Answer: | It does come with a power cord and either net cable. A coax is not needed since cable company should connect their end directly to the modern. |
Question: | Does this modem have netgear genie |
Answer: | Hello Thank you for contacting us. It has Netgear Genie App Management. Any questions please contact us again. Thanks. |
Question: | I see many ppl asking about a router and answers say “modem only” but the description says wifi modem combo. what am i missing |
Answer: | The confusion is due to the illogical way Amazon links questions and answers to products. There are several different products listed on this one product page. Some are just modems, others are modem/router combos. Unfortunately, all the different products on this page share the same questions and answers which aren't relevant to one another. If the description on the product you have selected says it's a modem/router combo, then it's a modem/router combo. The people saying it's only a router are answering the question based on the product their viewing or have purchased. This is a problem that effects many products throughout the Amazon site. |

User questions & answers
Question: | I want to buy this latest model mg7700 asap, when is gonna available |
Answer: | Not sure about the answer to your question. The MG7700 is very popular at the moment and all you can do is keep monitoring availability. |
Question: | What is the range of this modem? I'm looking for a strong signal throughout a 4,000 sq ft home |
Answer: | Model MG7700 should provide coverage to a large house. Unfortunately, because of so many variables involved, there isn't a way to measure the range (or speed) experience a user will have. Factors, including positioning of the Gateway, building materials, obstruction or even your neighbors WiFi usage, play a role in what will both range and speed. That said, model MG7700 is equipped with a sophisticated built in Dual Band AC 1900 WiFi router. Support for concurrent 2.4 and 5 GHz bands with AnyBeam beamforming at those bands, focuses the signal on wireless clients to allow further improvements to wireless performance, including range. Model MG7700's built in WiFi router will increase your chances for a better WiFi experience over other Gateways on the market. |
Question: | Do you have to pay for extended phone tech support in the event it stops working |
Answer: | Motorola has a pretty decent 2 year warranty, with good phone support even through this Novel Corona-virus causing many companies to lessen customer support. This is a solid modem that saves me $185 every year with Comcast. It's interesting as I had Comcast service 12 years ago and back then one could own their own modem to save you $15, but they would charge you the same $15 for the access card a month. I went back to Comcast as Frontier is at deaths door. These days Comcast doesn't charge for the access card as the FCC put the kibosh on cable companies being in the cable rental business. At the end of the day, this Motorola's paid for itself twice over and still counting. |
Question: | Are you able to install firmware updates? When I owned a combo modem+router, Cox locked out firmware updates because it was a cable modem |
Answer: | No, you can't personally update the firmware, apparently, the cable company gets it from Motorola, and updates it for you. I guess for compatibility or maybe some other reason. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How easy is set up on this device? Would I have to call my provider (Comcast |
Answer: | It is super easy to set-up, however you usually have to contact comcast with any new device because they have to put it on their system. I basically plugged it in and called comcast, they found the device on the network and I was up and running. The only other step you need is to go into the device setup (the ip address is on the label) and login and set up your username and password for your accounts. There are other settings you can set, but for a basic setup that is all you need to do. |
Question: | What is the difference between this one and the $89.99 that you also offer |
Answer: | The MG7550 is both a 16X4 modem and an AC1900 router integrated into a single unit. The MB7420 is a 16X4 modem, but does not include an integrated wireless router. The $89.99 MB7420 would typically be used with a wireless router. The MG7550 has a very powerful router built in. |
Question: | Is this a 32 band modem |
Answer: | The MG7550 supports the 250 Mbps and 300 Mbps services which are the fastest offered by the major service providers using DOCSIS 3.0. The MG7550 does not support 32 channels down, but as a caution, 32 channels is not likely to buy you anything more. The next major cable modem speed increase will use a technology called DOCSIS 3.1. That new technology is at least a year away for most people and will be a premium-priced service. The major cable service providers are very unlikely to use more than 16 channels for DOCSIS 3.0 because that would not be an efficient use of their networks. So buying a DOCSIS 3.0 device with more than a 16 channels down is not likely to buy you anything. |
Question: | Sellers keep saying the range is excellent. what exactly is the range for this router? numbers please. i need facts before i invest |
Answer: | The range you will get is highly dependent upon what kind of building you are in and how many other wireless signals are in the area. The range you will get in an apartment with concrete walls is much different from the range you will get in a suburban house with drywall interior walls. Results are also highly dependent upon what client (notebook, tablet, phone etc.) you are using. There is an independent study by Netperian that compares the speeds and range of competing AC1900 cable modem gateways. Various building types are used in the test and speed ratings were taken in each room of the buildings. The results were that the Motorola MG7550 is MUCH better than Arris and significantly better than Netgear. The report is over 40 pages long, so you will readily see a few numbers for range are only partial information. With all of that said, in an open field the MG7550 averaged 214 Mbps download speeds at 1000 feet and 475 Mbps at 100 feet. Those were much better data rates than Netgear or Arris with identical conditions. |
