11 best fast modem
A fast modem, also known as a high-speed modem, is a critical networking device used to establish and maintain an internet connection for computers and other devices. These modems are designed to provide rapid data transmission and high bandwidth capabilities. Here are some key points about fast modems:
Purpose: Fast modems are essential for accessing high-speed internet services, such as cable, DSL (Digital Subscriber Line), fiber-optic, or satellite internet connections. They enable users to download and upload data at significantly faster rates compared to older, slower modems.
Broadband Compatibility: Fast modems are compatible with broadband internet services, which offer faster connection speeds compared to traditional dial-up connections.Broadband technologies include DSL, cable, and fiber optics.
Types of Fast Modems:
- Cable Modems: These modems are used with cable internet services and can deliver high-speed internet access. They connect to the cable TV infrastructure in your area.
- DSL Modems: DSL modems are used with DSL internet services, which operate over telephone lines. They offer fast internet connections, especially with newer DSL technologies.
- Fiber-Optic Modems: Fiber-optic modems are designed for use with fiber-optic internet connections, which provide extremely high-speed internet access by using light signals transmitted through optical fibers.
- Satellite Modems: Satellite modems are used in conjunction with satellite internet services. They are suitable for remote or rural areas where other high-speed options may be limited.
Data Transfer Speeds: Fast modems are known for their high data transfer speeds, which are typically measured in Mbps (megabits per second) or Gbps (gigabits per second). The specific speed you can achieve depends on your internet service plan and the capabilities of your modem.
Compatibility: It's important to ensure that your fast modem is compatible with your internet service provider's network. Some ISPs may have a list of approved modems that are certified to work with their services.
DOCSIS Standard: For cable modems, the Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification (DOCSIS) standard plays a significant role. Newer versions of DOCSIS, such as DOCSIS 3.0 and 3.1, offer faster data transfer rates and improved performance.
Router Integration: Many fast modems also include router functionality, combining the modem and router into a single device. This is commonly referred to as a gateway or modem-router combo. It simplifies the setup process and is convenient for home networking.
Upgrading: Upgrading to a fast modem can significantly improve your internet experience, especially if you have a high-speed internet plan. Older modems may not be able to take full advantage of the available bandwidth.
Security: Like all networking devices, fast modems should be secured with strong passwords and updated firmware to protect against unauthorized access and potential security threats.
In summary, a fast modem is a critical component for accessing high-speed internet services, providing fast data transfer speeds and compatibility with various broadband technologies. Choosing the right modem for your specific internet service and needs is important for ensuring a smooth and efficient internet connection.

User questions & answers
Question: | How is this model different than the arris surfboard sb |
Answer: | The sb6121 only has speeds of 172 Mbps download and up to 131 Mbps upload. This model has up to 343 Mbps download and 131 Mbps upload. |
Question: | Going with the cable modem option what’s the best router to pair this with for spectrum |
Answer: | It depends on your needs. Needs are based on the number of devices connected and the size of area you are trying to cover. I would highly recommend a mesh network unless your home is 1200sqft or smaller. A centrally located router could cover that. The biggest problem is getting the 5ghz frequency to reach throughout the home. The 5ghz gives you speeds over 30mbps on wireless devices. 5ghz will reach roughly 40ft in all directions from your access point (ap). A mesh system gives you multiple ap and thus more area covered by the 5ghz. |
Question: | How many devices can connect at once? Is that that the 8x refers to |
Answer: | The 8x doesn't refer to the number of devices you can connect to it. You only want to connect one device and that's your WiFi router. You wireless router determines how many devices can be connect based on the available number of ip addresses on the wireless device. The 8x refers to the speed of Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification (DOCSIS). Its informing you on the speed of DOCSIS 2.0 vs the newer DOCSIS 3.0. Ultimately your speed will be determined by how much you want to pay your internet provider. And you can determine how many devices you want to connect by the router you choose. |
Question: | Do I also have to buy a router for the modem? And to make sure it obviously speeds up internet connection right |
Answer: | If you only need to have one computer hooked up to the internet you do not need a router. If you want to hook up more than one computer or if you want a wireless network, you will need to buy the appropriate router. My internet speed went from 20mb to 100mb(the speed I pay extra for). TWC has also stopped charging me $8.00 a month for the use of their inadequate equipment. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Why does it say 4x ethernet ports in your description where there is only one |
Answer: | Because Amazon hasn't corrected their product subscription. I submitted one two weeks ago and has yet to be done. If you need more than 1 ethernet port, then this one is not for you. This has only (1) 2.5 Multi-Gig port. |
Question: | Does netgear cm500-1aznas work with tds provider |
Answer: | Yes. But you need to call the TDS customer service and provide your CMAC or SN to register your device. These numbers are on the box and the unit |
Question: | Can you use a phone to ethernet splitter for voice to work |
Answer: | I have never heard of a phone to internet splitter, at least not expressed in those terms. However, for VOIP (which means Voice Over Internet Protocall), you must have at least one phone jack in a modem, or a modem-router combination. Some modems have two such jacks, which could provide two different "lines." Most importantly, you must have your internet service provider's PERMISSION to install and use such a modem, or modem-router combination! My own ISP (Wow, aka Wowway.com) REFUSED to give such permission because that would cut into their profits, since they would no longer receive a monthly FEE to RENT their age-old junk, much of which are at least five years old, which is like a millenia in this day of super-fast-paced electronic offerings. I had to send back every VOIP-capable modem I bought from Amazon and other places because my ISP REFUSED to enable them to work with their so-called service(s). Talk about anti-competitive business practices ... U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC), are you paying any attention? |
Question: | I understand that this modem says it will only work with xfinity. but has anyone tried this with spectrum? (aka time warner cable |
Answer: | Hello. I am writing this Dec 2, 2020 and just activated this modem 2 days ago with Spectrum. It is not on the list of approved modems, but oddly enough the CM400 is. I just told the tech support who activated it that it was compatible and it's worked fine with no problems. I went from 100-120 mbs on my 100 mb plan to 250 to 450 mbs, still on the 100 mb plan. This modem is not on the list of approved models but it seems to work fine so far without periodic latency/drops like the Arris model from Spectrum had. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Confirming that only one device can be connected to the modem, despite additional lan ports? you can't connect, say your pc and a router at same time |
Answer: | The MB8600 will allow for one device. You can connect your PC to the MB8600, or connect a router to the MB8600.If, in the very unusual situation, you are paying for and receiving more than one IP address from your provider, then you can directly connect up to 4 devices to the MB8600. |
Question: | I also need wifi, what do you recommend |
Answer: | The MB8600 modem will work with any WiFi router. Given the speed of the MB8600, you should be using at least an AC1900 router and given the other devices in your network, you might be able to take advantage of a wireless speed even faster than AC1900.The Ethernet port on the MB8600 simply plugs into the WiFi router of your choice. The router should be current enough to have a Gigabit WAN port (10/100/1000 Ethernet port), since you will need that for the speeds that the MB8600 can deliver. And for now, 1 Gbps service is the fastest cable service Comcast is providing in the US. When Comcast or other cable Internet service providers begin providing service speeds over 1Gbps, the MB8600 has the bonded Ethernet ports which will allow the MB8600 to deliver speeds above 1 Gbps. We are not aware of a consumer-home/small office router that does Ethernet port bonding today, but they are coming. Ethernet port bonding is available on Enterprise level routers (routers used in large organizations), but we can't recommend that class of product for a consumer at this point. They are more complicated than you need and more expensive. Bonded Ethernet ports for consumers will appear by the time Comcast is ready to begin delivering speeds above 1Gbps and the MB8600 will be ready to deliver those speeds. In summary: Use at least an AC1900 wireless router Be sure the router you choose has a Gigabit Ethernet WAN port. |
Question: | Does this use the now-notorious Intel Puma 6 chipset |
Answer: | Model MB8600 and all Motorola products use Broadcom chipsets and do not have the problem associated with the Puma 6 chipset. |
Question: | Do all four Ethernet ports on this modem output the same amount of bandwidth or are there only certain ports that operate at maximum capacity |
Answer: | The reason for four ports on a modem requires some explanation. It is important to understand the MB8600 does not do routing. The MB8600 is a modem only. A router can be connected to any of the MB8600 GigE ports. The link between the router and the modem is then capable of using the full rate of the one Gbps service Comcast currently can provide with their new DOCSIS 3.1 service. In the future, Comcast and other cable services are expected to offer services faster than on 1 Gbps. When those faster services are offered, the additional ports in the MB8600 will be needed. Ports 1 and 2 can be bonded to allow up to 2 Gbps to be delivered by the MB8600. The other two ports on the MB8600 are there to allow additional port bonding for speeds over 2 Gbps. When Comcast has service speeds over 1 Gbps, the router connected to the MB8600 also needs to do port bonding to take advantage of the port bonding in the MB8600. Routers used by consumers today do not support port bonding. Some routers used in corporate networks do support port bonding. In the future, routers used in homes and small businesses will be sold that support port bonding so they can take advantage of future service speeds that will be faster than 1Gbps. In summary, the four ports on the MB8600 are there to allow the MB8600 to deliver service speeds above 1 Gbps WHEN THOSE SERVICES ARE AVAILABLE. That is good design. Think twice before you buy a modem that pretends to offer speeds above 1Gbps and does not have multiple ports that can be bonded. You can not get a speed above 1 Gbps unless you have a way to get the fast speed out of the modem. The MB8600 is designed to allow speeds above 1 Gbps to be delivered to a router with bonded GigE ports. Other modems are not as well designed. |

User questions & answers
Question: | I want to buy this latest model mg7700 asap, when is gonna available |
Answer: | Not sure about the answer to your question. The MG7700 is very popular at the moment and all you can do is keep monitoring availability. |
Question: | What is the range of this modem? I'm looking for a strong signal throughout a 4,000 sq ft home |
Answer: | Model MG7700 should provide coverage to a large house. Unfortunately, because of so many variables involved, there isn't a way to measure the range (or speed) experience a user will have. Factors, including positioning of the Gateway, building materials, obstruction or even your neighbors WiFi usage, play a role in what will both range and speed. That said, model MG7700 is equipped with a sophisticated built in Dual Band AC 1900 WiFi router. Support for concurrent 2.4 and 5 GHz bands with AnyBeam beamforming at those bands, focuses the signal on wireless clients to allow further improvements to wireless performance, including range. Model MG7700's built in WiFi router will increase your chances for a better WiFi experience over other Gateways on the market. |
Question: | Do you have to pay for extended phone tech support in the event it stops working |
Answer: | Motorola has a pretty decent 2 year warranty, with good phone support even through this Novel Corona-virus causing many companies to lessen customer support. This is a solid modem that saves me $185 every year with Comcast. It's interesting as I had Comcast service 12 years ago and back then one could own their own modem to save you $15, but they would charge you the same $15 for the access card a month. I went back to Comcast as Frontier is at deaths door. These days Comcast doesn't charge for the access card as the FCC put the kibosh on cable companies being in the cable rental business. At the end of the day, this Motorola's paid for itself twice over and still counting. |
Question: | Are you able to install firmware updates? When I owned a combo modem+router, Cox locked out firmware updates because it was a cable modem |
Answer: | No, you can't personally update the firmware, apparently, the cable company gets it from Motorola, and updates it for you. I guess for compatibility or maybe some other reason. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this modem come with all the paperwork telling me how to change the password and name of the wifi |
Answer: | This modem does not have WIFI capabilities. You must purchase a router with WiFi and connect it to this modem. This is just a modem, not a modem router combo. |
Question: | Does it have a battery backup |
Answer: | Battery backup for most cable modem situations is worthless because, if your power is out, it's also likely that the amplifiers on the telephone poles for the cable are out as well, so no signal would get to the modem if it was still powered. |
Question: | How to set it up |
Answer: | Step 1 open box Step 2 unplug any modem and router you have if any Step 3 connect coaxial cable from wall to this modem Step 4 connect power to modem Step 5 turn on power Step 6 call your internet service provider and tell them you habe a new modem then give them mac and/or serial # of modem (this info is on bottom of modem on stand) Step 7 let them setup and update modem Step 8 plug cat cable from modem to laptop to test internet Step 9 if using router, plug in power to router and connect to modem. If router is still powered on (you skipped step 2), turn off router and wait 1 min, don't turn on yet. This resets the modem info in the router. Step 10 connect cat cable from modem to router Step 11 wait for router to startup, if internet is not online after 5 minutes, cycle power on both modem and router at the same time to refresh |
Question: | Is the delivery timely |

Question: | Well this work with century link |
Answer: | It wasn't sealed but it was wrapped in tissue paper. |
Question: | Is this cox compatible |
Answer: | It does for me. I put on my moisturizer and let it soak in for about 15 - 20 minutes while I have breakfast and get dressed then spray this on and let it dry for about 2 minutes (as long as it takes to put in a pair of earrings and put on a necklace) then put my foundation on right over it while it is still a little damp and tacky. I find that doing that my make up stays on and in place for the whole work day at least (I tend to take it off early in the evening most days). I do use the Smashbox eyeshadow primer too as I find that I dont get enough of this on my eyelids just misting my face to do any good - I also get really oily eyelids. I also find that it hasnt mattered what foundation I wear over this they all do better than without, but that the improvement is proportional to the quality of the foundation too. |

User questions & answers
Question: | With its 7.5 amp output capability has anyone used this timer to power cycle other electronics, such as a pc or a security dvr system |
Answer: | No.. I've only used it for the modem and wifi. Seems to work well on my three systems. |
Question: | How did you calculate 24% Faster Internet with this device |
Answer: | This calculation was determined using speedtest.net over a 60 day period with 3 different service providers sampled over various times per day. |
Question: | I have amazon alexas and dots. will this affect how they work |
Answer: | This device has nothing to do with Amazon Echo or Echo Dots. It isn't voice activated. It's not network connected. It's not a smart home device. It's a timer. At the time you set, it turns off power to both outlets, then turns the power on to the modem socket, waits a minute, and then turns the power on to the router socket. |
Question: | Is the product UL listed |
Answer: | UL does not hold a monopoly on testing in the U.S. The ETL mark is an approved alternate listing to U.L. "Aside from the body that issues the listing, there is absolutely no difference between a UL listing and an ETL listing. Because Intertek ETL tests products to previously published UL Standards for Safety, products marked as ETL Listed meet exactly the same criteria as those marked UL Listed or UL Recognized." |

About us
Netreset was built out of necessity.
Its inventor designed it while he was working a home automation job. While installing security systems, home automation, energy management, custom audio/video setups, video surveillance, and various other smart home technologies, he realized all of these products and systems relied on one thing: internet connectivity.
If your internet connection fails, a smart home becomes a problem.
Your camera monitors, security system, and light controls no longer work. Other services like media streaming, online gaming, home office, and any internet communication are also hindered. It was at this point that we realized we had to find a solution to ensure reliable and painless internet connectivity. There were no solutions available so we developed our own.
The best solution proved to be the simplest.
As the FBI says, the most effective way of auto-correcting home network issues, erasing malicious cyber attacks and allowing vital updates is by routinely refreshing your modem and router. Turning it off and on again in a specific sequence – modem 2 minutes before router – is the key. By building NetReset, powered by a timer, we simply automated this process. Just set it and forget it.
So far NetReseT has helped thousands of customers with secure, fast, reliable, stress-free internet that is always connected.
Now more than ever, our mission is to give homes worldwide automatic access to a more secure internet.

Answer: | We recommend placing the device on a tabletop in an open space to avoid any interference |
Question: | Is this modem compatible with suddenlink |
