Cisco DSL modems are networking devices designed to connect to a Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) internet service. These modems are part of Cisco's portfolio of networking products and are used to establish high-speed internet connections over existing telephone lines. Here's what you need to know about Cisco DSL modems:

  1. DSL Technology: DSL is a broadband internet technology that utilizes standard telephone lines to transmit data. Cisco DSL modems are designed to work specifically with DSL internet services provided by various ISPs (Internet Service Providers).

  2. Compatibility: Cisco DSL modems are engineered to be compatible with a range of DSL standards, including ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) and VDSL (Very High Bitrate Digital Subscriber Line). The specific model you choose should align with the type of DSL service offered by your ISP.

  3. High-Speed Connectivity: Cisco DSL modems support high-speed internet access, offering faster download and upload speeds compared to traditional dial-up connections. The exact speed capabilities may vary depending on the model and DSL service plan.

  4. Ethernet Ports: Most Cisco DSL modems come equipped with Ethernet ports, allowing you to connect multiple devices to the modem, such as computers, routers, or switches. This enables the creation of a local network within your home or office.

  5. Built-in Router (Optional): Some Cisco DSL modems also have built-in routing capabilities, functioning as both a modem and a router. This can simplify your network setup by eliminating the need for an additional router.

  6. Security Features: Cisco DSL modems often include security features like firewall protection and support for Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) to help safeguard your network and data.

  7. Remote Management: Many Cisco DSL modems offer remote management capabilities, allowing users to configure and monitor their modem settings through a web-based interface. This can be convenient for troubleshooting and making configuration changes.

  8. ISP Compatibility: Before purchasing a Cisco DSL modem, it's important to ensure that it is compatible with your specific DSL internet service provider. Different ISPs may have varying requirements and supported modem models.

  9. Firmware Updates: Keeping the modem's firmware up-to-date is important for security and performance reasons.Cisco typically provides firmware updates for their modems to address issues and improve functionality.

  10. Installation: Cisco DSL modems are relatively easy to install. You typically connect the modem to your telephone line and power it on. Configuration may be required, depending on your ISP's requirements, and this is often done through a web interface or provided software.

  11. ISP Support: If you encounter issues with your Cisco DSL modem, your ISP's technical support team can often assist with troubleshooting and resolving connectivity problems.

In summary, Cisco DSL modems are networking devices designed to provide high-speed internet access over DSL technology. They are compatible with various DSL standards, offer features such as built-in routing and security, and can support multiple connected devices. User questions & answers

Question: Does this connect via phone line or coaxal cable
Answer: The Cisco RV132W router with product ID RV132W-A-K9-NA comes with US power plug whereas the RV132W-E-K9-AU comes with Australia power plug so if you are going to deploy the RV in Australia you would purchase AU version (RV132W-E-K9-AU). Please also note since the RV132W is wireless router there is also difference in the band plans between the US and AU product versions with the approved radio channels. For more information about the features you can visit the product data sheet web page at https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/routers/small-business-rv-series-routers/datasheet-c78-736464.html
Question: Really, an Australia plug, for my US residence
Answer: When you use AT&T Uverse, you have to use AT&T gateway in order to get the service. Even though it doesn't mean you have to settle for the WiFi that it provides. That means you can use the RV132W router to boost your wireless to the level that you would normally expect from a router. The RV132W can be used behind the AT&T gateway, placed in either DMZ mode or IP Pass Through (https://www.att.com/support/smallbusiness/article/smb-internet/KM1188700/).
Question: does it work with att uverse
Answer: Yes, the RV132W does have embedded ADSL modem so it can be used as a second ADSL connection. However, you will need to confirm with your Service Provider whether it is doable or not splitting the line.
Question: Can this be used as a second adsl modem on a single residential line? i have one in one room and was wondering if i can use this instead of extender
Answer: According to their website, it is compatible with ADSL.

User questions & answers

Question: Why is this labeled c2100t when in the picture it clearly says the unit is a c1100t
Answer: When i bought mine the pictures where of the correct device. I am not sure why Amazon changed the product.
Question: Does this work for bonded vdsl
Answer: It does work for bonded vdsl2
Question: Is this a router and a modem? Also, is there any lag when streaming through wifi
Answer: This is a pretty decent modem/router. However I did notice some lag when I pushed it hard via Wifi. Specifically having 2 Apple TVs streaming, along with internet use, would cause issues. I do not see this lag when I use my R7000 router, and set up the modem in bridge mode. Overall, I would say this is the best modem/router combo I have used, but not as good as a high performance router - especially if you have a lot of Wifi devices. If your TV streaming devices are on ethernet, then this performs well, but Wifi is not as good as a high end router.
Question: Can it work with centurylink Fiber
Answer: Yes. I use it with Centurylink Fiber now.

User questions & answers

Question: is it compatible with netgear nighthawk x6 router
Answer: Will work with any router especially a better but any router i s fine
Question: This is a modem/router or just a modem
Answer: Router and Modem combined. Router has all the functionality you need for home network. Firewall/DHCP/Port forwarding etc. I just put my wireless router in Firewall/DHCP OFF and made it a wireless access point. Plugged the DM200 into a LAN port of the wireless router and now all wireless clients have internet/LAN access. Great having a router/modem in one box under $100.I have Century Link. They are unfortunate souls....clueless. They couldnt make their ADSL2+ modem work. Come to find out they have VDSL and didnt know it. What a bunch of bozo's :) Once I had my PPPoE login and password the DM200 took it from there.Firewall test show the DM200 is totally stealth. DM200 is easy to configure and a great little Router/Modem combo.
Question: Will this work with at&t dsl
Answer: Be certain it is actual AT&T DSL not UVerse DSL. The line between the two is often blurred in many areas.
Question: Will this work with windstream vdsl (not bonded
Answer: I have it. Yes. You have to set it up as vdsl pppoe. Search up the user manual for it and go to that section.

User questions & answers

Question: Why does it say 4x ethernet ports in your description where there is only one
Answer: Because Amazon hasn't corrected their product subscription. I submitted one two weeks ago and has yet to be done. If you need more than 1 ethernet port, then this one is not for you. This has only (1) 2.5 Multi-Gig port.
Question: Does netgear cm500-1aznas work with tds provider
Answer: Yes. But you need to call the TDS customer service and provide your CMAC or SN to register your device. These numbers are on the box and the unit
Question: Can you use a phone to ethernet splitter for voice to work
Answer: I have never heard of a phone to internet splitter, at least not expressed in those terms. However, for VOIP (which means Voice Over Internet Protocall), you must have at least one phone jack in a modem, or a modem-router combination. Some modems have two such jacks, which could provide two different "lines." Most importantly, you must have your internet service provider's PERMISSION to install and use such a modem, or modem-router combination! My own ISP (Wow, aka Wowway.com) REFUSED to give such permission because that would cut into their profits, since they would no longer receive a monthly FEE to RENT their age-old junk, much of which are at least five years old, which is like a millenia in this day of super-fast-paced electronic offerings. I had to send back every VOIP-capable modem I bought from Amazon and other places because my ISP REFUSED to enable them to work with their so-called service(s). Talk about anti-competitive business practices ... U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC), are you paying any attention?
Question: I understand that this modem says it will only work with xfinity. but has anyone tried this with spectrum? (aka time warner cable
Answer: Hello. I am writing this Dec 2, 2020 and just activated this modem 2 days ago with Spectrum. It is not on the list of approved modems, but oddly enough the CM400 is. I just told the tech support who activated it that it was compatible and it's worked fine with no problems. I went from 100-120 mbs on my 100 mb plan to 250 to 450 mbs, still on the 100 mb plan. This modem is not on the list of approved models but it seems to work fine so far without periodic latency/drops like the Arris model from Spectrum had.

User questions & answers

Question: Is this compatible with AT&T
Answer: Model MT7711 or any (DOCSIS Cable modem/router) is NOT compatible with AT&T.
Question: I just updated my account to the 1000mbps plan and I want to get the most of it. Would I be able to get the 1000mbps download with this device
Answer: My internet speed when Comcast provides xfi modem is >300 Mbps down (even wifi) which is what my plan is. However everytime I plug this modem and replace comcast modem - the internet wired connections throttles at a max of ~174 Mbps Wifi sucks at ~74 Mbps Upstairs ~43 Mbps Very disappointed with this product. I have spent numerous hours with comcast tech and they rewired my connections. NO LUCK !!!
Question: Mt7711 reverts to eroute_dualmode from bridge mode either upon reboot or triggered by xfinity. has anyone figured out how to keep it in bridge mode
Answer: Bridging the connection is entirely dependent on your internet service provider. Some providers have a configuration file which will overwrite the bridge mode any time you reboot your modem (When your modem or gateway reaches out to their DHCP server, it locks to your modem's MAC address). You can try calling your internet service provider and ask them to release your DHCP lease, which will make the network have to relearn what MAC is associated with your account. However, it may not be permanent and will just revert to previous settings again. If you have more questions, please call our support team at 1-800-753-0797 (Monday-Friday 8:30am-10pm, Saturday 8:30am-5pm Eastern Time)
Question: I have comcast triple play and plan to reduce service to comcast internet only with Ooma phone. Is this a good choice to accomplish this transition
Answer: I also have Comcast/Xfinity Triple Play. With all of the Premium channels it cost me $159.00 per month when I add the phone and went to Triple Play 3 years ago. Late last year my monthly bill had gone up to $292.00 per month and they were talking about raising the price another $18. I dropped all of the Premium channels, turned in one of the three HD adapters and bought this MT17711 so I didn't have to rent one monthly. My bill dropped down to $191.30. This modem is excellent. It has faster Internet speeds and my devices located outside no longer drop off. I still have the X1 DVR and can live without the Premium Channels. Installation was simple and all done right online without having to call Xfinity.

Given the speed of the MB8600, you should be using at least an AC1900 router and given the other devices in your network, you might be able to take advantage of a wireless speed even faster than AC1900.The Ethernet port on the MB8600 simply plugs into the WiFi router of your choice. The router should be current enough to have a Gigabit WAN port (10/100/1000 Ethernet port), since you will need that for the speeds that the MB8600 can deliver. And for now, 1 Gbps service is the fastest cable service Comcast is providing in the US. When Comcast or other cable Internet service providers begin providing service speeds over 1Gbps, the MB8600 has the bonded Ethernet ports which will allow the MB8600 to deliver speeds above 1 Gbps. We are not aware of a consumer-home/small office router that does Ethernet port bonding today, but they are coming. Ethernet port bonding is available on Enterprise level routers (routers used in large organizations), but we can't recommend that class of product for a consumer at this point. They are more complicated than you need and more expensive. Bonded Ethernet ports for consumers will appear by the time Comcast is ready to begin delivering speeds above 1Gbps and the MB8600 will be ready to deliver those speeds. In summary: Use at least an AC1900 wireless router Be sure the router you choose has a Gigabit Ethernet WAN port.
Question: Does this use the now-notorious Intel Puma 6 chipset
Answer: Model MB8600 and all Motorola products use Broadcom chipsets and do not have the problem associated with the Puma 6 chipset.
Question: Do all four Ethernet ports on this modem output the same amount of bandwidth or are there only certain ports that operate at maximum capacity
Answer: The reason for four ports on a modem requires some explanation. It is important to understand the MB8600 does not do routing. The MB8600 is a modem only. A router can be connected to any of the MB8600 GigE ports. The link between the router and the modem is then capable of using the full rate of the one Gbps service Comcast currently can provide with their new DOCSIS 3.1 service. In the future, Comcast and other cable services are expected to offer services faster than on 1 Gbps. When those faster services are offered, the additional ports in the MB8600 will be needed. Ports 1 and 2 can be bonded to allow up to 2 Gbps to be delivered by the MB8600. The other two ports on the MB8600 are there to allow additional port bonding for speeds over 2 Gbps. When Comcast has service speeds over 1 Gbps, the router connected to the MB8600 also needs to do port bonding to take advantage of the port bonding in the MB8600. Routers used by consumers today do not support port bonding. Some routers used in corporate networks do support port bonding. In the future, routers used in homes and small businesses will be sold that support port bonding so they can take advantage of future service speeds that will be faster than 1Gbps. In summary, the four ports on the MB8600 are there to allow the MB8600 to deliver service speeds above 1 Gbps WHEN THOSE SERVICES ARE AVAILABLE. That is good design. Think twice before you buy a modem that pretends to offer speeds above 1Gbps and does not have multiple ports that can be bonded. You can not get a speed above 1 Gbps unless you have a way to get the fast speed out of the modem. The MB8600 is designed to allow speeds above 1 Gbps to be delivered to a router with bonded GigE ports. Other modems are not as well designed.

User questions & answers

Question: I want to buy this latest model mg7700 asap, when is gonna available
Answer: Not sure about the answer to your question. The MG7700 is very popular at the moment and all you can do is keep monitoring availability.
Question: What is the range of this modem? I'm looking for a strong signal throughout a 4,000 sq ft home
Answer: Model MG7700 should provide coverage to a large house. Unfortunately, because of so many variables involved, there isn't a way to measure the range (or speed) experience a user will have. Factors, including positioning of the Gateway, building materials, obstruction or even your neighbors WiFi usage, play a role in what will both range and speed. That said, model MG7700 is equipped with a sophisticated built in Dual Band AC 1900 WiFi router. Support for concurrent 2.4 and 5 GHz bands with AnyBeam beamforming at those bands, focuses the signal on wireless clients to allow further improvements to wireless performance, including range. Model MG7700's built in WiFi router will increase your chances for a better WiFi experience over other Gateways on the market.
Question: Do you have to pay for extended phone tech support in the event it stops working
Answer: Motorola has a pretty decent 2 year warranty, with good phone support even through this Novel Corona-virus causing many companies to lessen customer support. This is a solid modem that saves me $185 every year with Comcast. It's interesting as I had Comcast service 12 years ago and back then one could own their own modem to save you $15, but they would charge you the same $15 for the access card a month. I went back to Comcast as Frontier is at deaths door. These days Comcast doesn't charge for the access card as the FCC put the kibosh on cable companies being in the cable rental business. At the end of the day, this Motorola's paid for itself twice over and still counting.
Question: Are you able to install firmware updates? When I owned a combo modem+router, Cox locked out firmware updates because it was a cable modem
Answer: No, you can't personally update the firmware, apparently, the cable company gets it from Motorola, and updates it for you. I guess for compatibility or maybe some other reason.

User questions & answers

Question: How is this model different than the arris surfboard sb
Answer: The sb6121 only has speeds of 172 Mbps download and up to 131 Mbps upload. This model has up to 343 Mbps download and 131 Mbps upload.
Question: Going with the cable modem option what’s the best router to pair this with for spectrum
Answer: It depends on your needs. Needs are based on the number of devices connected and the size of area you are trying to cover. I would highly recommend a mesh network unless your home is 1200sqft or smaller. A centrally located router could cover that. The biggest problem is getting the 5ghz frequency to reach throughout the home. The 5ghz gives you speeds over 30mbps on wireless devices. 5ghz will reach roughly 40ft in all directions from your access point (ap). A mesh system gives you multiple ap and thus more area covered by the 5ghz.
Question: How many devices can connect at once? Is that that the 8x refers to
Answer: The 8x doesn't refer to the number of devices you can connect to it. You only want to connect one device and that's your WiFi router. You wireless router determines how many devices can be connect based on the available number of ip addresses on the wireless device. The 8x refers to the speed of Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification (DOCSIS). Its informing you on the speed of DOCSIS 2.0 vs the newer DOCSIS 3.0. Ultimately your speed will be determined by how much you want to pay your internet provider. And you can determine how many devices you want to connect by the router you choose.
Question: Do I also have to buy a router for the modem? And to make sure it obviously speeds up internet connection right
Answer: If you only need to have one computer hooked up to the internet you do not need a router. If you want to hook up more than one computer or if you want a wireless network, you will need to buy the appropriate router. My internet speed went from 20mb to 100mb(the speed I pay extra for). TWC has also stopped charging me $8.00 a month for the use of their inadequate equipment.

User questions & answers

Question: I have dsl now with this 7550 (5yr old) , if i buy new will i need special set up, or just plug n' play
Answer: Probably easy return, call them and check policy.
Question: What is the return policy in case that it doesn’t work
Answer: I talked to someone at at&t who gave me help with mines after I changed settings on it and he says do not plug the dsl cable into the filter but only phone/fax lines. And mines was always plugged into a filter and it wasn’t working great. Based on the ratings though, not sure if that was the reason, lol. The wires on my cable were exposed near the top which could’ve contributed also.
Question: How does it work? do you plug into phone jack
Answer: Yes it will do, but what is really going to matter is your internet speed for online gaming, not the modem/router. If your using AT&T - the speeds are generally much slower than cable can provide. If speed is an issue, change the provider.
Question: Is this good for gaming
Answer: no it is built in
