12 best cable modem with wifi
A cable modem with Wi-Fi is a networking device that combines the functionality of a cable modem and a wireless router. It is commonly used to provide internet connectivity to homes and businesses by connecting to the internet service provider's (ISP) network through a coaxial cable connection. Here are some key points about cable modems with Wi-Fi:
Cable Modem Functionality: The cable modem component of this device is responsible for establishing a connection with your ISP's network over a coaxial cable. It typically has a coaxial cable input port and an Ethernet output port. It demodulates the incoming signal from the ISP and provides an internet connection to your local network.
Wi-Fi Router Functionality: In addition to the cable modem, these devices include a built-in wireless router. The router creates a local wireless network (Wi-Fi network) that allows multiple devices within your home or office to connect to the internet wirelessly. It usually has multiple Ethernet ports for wired connections as well.
Wireless Standards: Cable modems with Wi-Fi support various wireless standards, such as 802.11ac or 802.11ax (Wi-Fi 6), which determine the speed and range of your wireless network. Newer models tend to offer faster speeds and improved performance.
Security Features: These devices often come with security features like WPA/WPA2 encryption and a firewall to protect your network from unauthorized access and potential threats from the internet.
Compatibility: Before purchasing a cable modem with Wi-Fi, it's essential to check with your ISP to ensure compatibility. Different ISPs may have specific requirements or approved modem/router models that are compatible with their networks.
Benefits: Cable modems with Wi-Fi offer convenience by integrating the modem and router functions into a single device, reducing clutter and simplifying setup. They are suitable for homes and small businesses where wireless connectivity is essential.
Upgrades: As technology evolves, newer cable modem with Wi-Fi models are released with improved performance and features. Upgrading to a newer model can potentially provide faster internet speeds and better Wi-Fi coverage.
Setup and Configuration: Setting up a cable modem with Wi-Fi typically involves connecting it to your coaxial cable, activating it with your ISP, and configuring your Wi-Fi network settings through a web interface.
It's important to choose a cable modem with Wi-Fi that meets your specific needs in terms of internet speed, coverage, and compatibility with your ISP. Additionally, consider factors like the number of connected devices and the size of the area you need to cover with Wi-Fi when selecting a model.

User questions & answers
Question: | What does "AC1200" mean |
Answer: | AC means that the router has support for the 802.11ac (or Wi-Fi 5) wireless networking standard, which offers fast WiFi network connections on the 5GHz frequency. 1200 means the max Mbps is 1200 |
Question: | Does the box come with the necessary cables? (e.g. power cord and coax cable |
Answer: | It does come with a power cord and either net cable. A coax is not needed since cable company should connect their end directly to the modern. |
Question: | Does this modem have netgear genie |
Answer: | Hello Thank you for contacting us. It has Netgear Genie App Management. Any questions please contact us again. Thanks. |
Question: | I see many ppl asking about a router and answers say “modem only” but the description says wifi modem combo. what am i missing |
Answer: | The confusion is due to the illogical way Amazon links questions and answers to products. There are several different products listed on this one product page. Some are just modems, others are modem/router combos. Unfortunately, all the different products on this page share the same questions and answers which aren't relevant to one another. If the description on the product you have selected says it's a modem/router combo, then it's a modem/router combo. The people saying it's only a router are answering the question based on the product their viewing or have purchased. This is a problem that effects many products throughout the Amazon site. |

Question: | Is this both a modem and router ? (2 in1 thing |
Answer: | Yes it is! It has dual functionality. If you have a router you like already you can turn the wifi part off and just use it as a modem |
Question: | This says it isn't compatible with at&t, does that mean my iphone, with an at&t connection, will not be able to use this modem |
Answer: | It is not compatible with AT&T High Speed Internet service, only good with traditional Cable Service. Your iPhone will connect to the Wi-Fi without issue. |
Question: | i'm using this with netgear router (with port forwarding). therefore i have to run this modem in bridge mode. would i be better with a cheaper modem |
Answer: | I think you'd be better with a cheaper modem. The whole point of getting this modem is so you don't need to purchase a separate router/Wi-Fi access point. |

Answer: | Yes, you can use LAN and wifi the same time. |

User questions & answers
Question: | I want to buy this latest model mg7700 asap, when is gonna available |
Answer: | Not sure about the answer to your question. The MG7700 is very popular at the moment and all you can do is keep monitoring availability. |
Question: | What is the range of this modem? I'm looking for a strong signal throughout a 4,000 sq ft home |
Answer: | Model MG7700 should provide coverage to a large house. Unfortunately, because of so many variables involved, there isn't a way to measure the range (or speed) experience a user will have. Factors, including positioning of the Gateway, building materials, obstruction or even your neighbors WiFi usage, play a role in what will both range and speed. That said, model MG7700 is equipped with a sophisticated built in Dual Band AC 1900 WiFi router. Support for concurrent 2.4 and 5 GHz bands with AnyBeam beamforming at those bands, focuses the signal on wireless clients to allow further improvements to wireless performance, including range. Model MG7700's built in WiFi router will increase your chances for a better WiFi experience over other Gateways on the market. |
Question: | Do you have to pay for extended phone tech support in the event it stops working |
Answer: | Motorola has a pretty decent 2 year warranty, with good phone support even through this Novel Corona-virus causing many companies to lessen customer support. This is a solid modem that saves me $185 every year with Comcast. It's interesting as I had Comcast service 12 years ago and back then one could own their own modem to save you $15, but they would charge you the same $15 for the access card a month. I went back to Comcast as Frontier is at deaths door. These days Comcast doesn't charge for the access card as the FCC put the kibosh on cable companies being in the cable rental business. At the end of the day, this Motorola's paid for itself twice over and still counting. |
Question: | Are you able to install firmware updates? When I owned a combo modem+router, Cox locked out firmware updates because it was a cable modem |
Answer: | No, you can't personally update the firmware, apparently, the cable company gets it from Motorola, and updates it for you. I guess for compatibility or maybe some other reason. |

User questions & answers
Question: | It seems impossible to connect a display via usb-c. use thunderbolt usb-c for video, then you can't charge the macbook air. why |
Answer: | The SBG7600AC2 USB 2.0 port supports connected hard drives with SAMBA and DLNA Media Sharing. In addition to supporting USB 2.0 hard drives, the USB port can be used as a charging connection for mobile devices. Note that the USB port does NOT support Internet connection. |
Question: | Received today and it is not new. already unwrapped. how do i return to get a new one, like i ordered? or get discount for receiving an open box item |
Answer: | Contact Amazon for return and replacement. |
Question: | Has anyone noticed their wifi will cut out randomly with this product throughout the day |
Answer: | Yes, this is happening increasingly. I bought about 3 months ago. The problem started maybe a couple of weeks later. Now, it’s multiple time, every day. The provider company says they can’t fix. Arris said I was only getting 1 upstream channel, instead of 3. And that was the cause of the intermittent WiFi. You can check your status by typing 192.168.100.1 in browser. Scroll down past your downstream list to see your upstream list. Each line represents a channel. An Arris rep also told me to ask for a ‘tier 1 supervisor’ at the internet provider company. Otherwise, they won’t know how to assist you. That’s where I’m at now. They’re sending a tech out to check everything. I’m just not sure they can fix my upstream problem. We shall see. |
Question: | It's impossible to get a true perspective of this modem/router because the reviews and questions are for many Arris products. How is this possible |
Answer: | I have Optimum as my ISP and my Arris modems have been very reliable. I had an Arris TM822A that worked perfectly since 2013. I wanted to stop leasing so I purchased the Arris SB6183 as an upgrade and it is working fine for the last 2 weeks. I would only buy one of two Arris. The SB6183 (16x4) or the SB8200 (32x8). I would not buy the Arris SB6190 /TM602/TM1672) or anything with a Puma 6 chipset. The Puma 6 chipset from Intel has a defect that firmware has still not fixed. You can google that chipset to see the issues with latency. If the Arris works with your cable company, I don't see an issue buying one of the two mentioned. BTW, the two are modems only, no router or telephone connection. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How easy is set up on this device? Would I have to call my provider (Comcast |
Answer: | It is super easy to set-up, however you usually have to contact comcast with any new device because they have to put it on their system. I basically plugged it in and called comcast, they found the device on the network and I was up and running. The only other step you need is to go into the device setup (the ip address is on the label) and login and set up your username and password for your accounts. There are other settings you can set, but for a basic setup that is all you need to do. |
Question: | What is the difference between this one and the $89.99 that you also offer |
Answer: | The MG7550 is both a 16X4 modem and an AC1900 router integrated into a single unit. The MB7420 is a 16X4 modem, but does not include an integrated wireless router. The $89.99 MB7420 would typically be used with a wireless router. The MG7550 has a very powerful router built in. |
Question: | Is this a 32 band modem |
Answer: | The MG7550 supports the 250 Mbps and 300 Mbps services which are the fastest offered by the major service providers using DOCSIS 3.0. The MG7550 does not support 32 channels down, but as a caution, 32 channels is not likely to buy you anything more. The next major cable modem speed increase will use a technology called DOCSIS 3.1. That new technology is at least a year away for most people and will be a premium-priced service. The major cable service providers are very unlikely to use more than 16 channels for DOCSIS 3.0 because that would not be an efficient use of their networks. So buying a DOCSIS 3.0 device with more than a 16 channels down is not likely to buy you anything. |
Question: | Sellers keep saying the range is excellent. what exactly is the range for this router? numbers please. i need facts before i invest |
Answer: | The range you will get is highly dependent upon what kind of building you are in and how many other wireless signals are in the area. The range you will get in an apartment with concrete walls is much different from the range you will get in a suburban house with drywall interior walls. Results are also highly dependent upon what client (notebook, tablet, phone etc.) you are using. There is an independent study by Netperian that compares the speeds and range of competing AC1900 cable modem gateways. Various building types are used in the test and speed ratings were taken in each room of the buildings. The results were that the Motorola MG7550 is MUCH better than Arris and significantly better than Netgear. The report is over 40 pages long, so you will readily see a few numbers for range are only partial information. With all of that said, in an open field the MG7550 averaged 214 Mbps download speeds at 1000 feet and 475 Mbps at 100 feet. Those were much better data rates than Netgear or Arris with identical conditions. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What’s the WiFi range on the sbg |
Answer: | In a house it tends to be sufficient. My security cameras run without issue 40-50 feet away. Range drops off outside the house after about 15 feet. So a 60-70 foot radius from the router, then I tend to jump to a neighbors xfinitwifi as a backup outside |
Question: | does this have a phone jack |
Answer: | No phone jack. Mine has 3 ports 1. Power, 2. Incoming Cable, and 3. Outgoing ethernet. |
Question: | will this work with WOW |
Answer: | This will work with WOW for everything but their 1 Gb service tier. |
Question: | Can you turn off the Mcaffee crap? Has anyone noticed this router not allowing you to visit sites it thinks are “dangerous |
Answer: | As OP said I never installed, so nothing to turn off. I started having many problems using a non standard gate way address (192.168.10.1). Router would forget WiFi password, couldn’t access the GUI there. Almost as though the firmware was becoming corrupted. I sent mine back, waiting for replacement - that’s another story. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this modem support phone service from Xfinity |
Answer: | No. |
Question: | Is there any way i could use this in china? i've entered pppoe id and pw provided by isp on wan setting which is set as l2tp, but no luck |
Answer: | Wherever you are...; be it China or the USA; you must take your device to the local office of your ISP (Internet Service Provider) and have them approve it plus register it with their system. ISP protocols are generally universal worldwide but also universal is the premise that you may not access their system without their permission and they expect to get paid for providing the service |
Question: | Is this router compatable for voip phone services provided by the cable provider |
Answer: | No. |
Question: | how is the warranty isuue? how long |
Answer: | Warranty is for 3 months. I'd recommend to buy a new one not refurbished. My modem isn't working any more. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this have a wifi on/off button |

Question: | Will it broadcast in both 2.4 and 5 at the same time |
Answer: | Model MG7550 will broadast in both at the same time. |
Question: | What is the difference between the mg7540 and mg |
Answer: | The MG7540 has AnyBeam beamforming for only the 5 GHz that will focus the signal on wireless clients to allow better performance and range The MG7550 has AnyBeam beamforming for both the 2 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies which focuses the signal on wireless clients to further enhance performance and range. Question: | How difficult is the configuration process |
Answer: | There wasn't much to the setup. I took the modem/router out of the box and connected it to the cable/internet wall plug. With Comcast I was able to do the setup over the internet (using my phone). It only took a few minutes over the internet versus calling Comcast. |

Better WiFi with AC1600 Dual Band
Dual band gives you two WiFi networks operating simultaneously in the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. Single band routers only use the 2.4 GHz band. This band is often full of interference as all your devices share that single band with your neighbors. The 5 GHz band in dual band products is typically much less crowded and has less interference. The bottom line? Dual band delivers much better WiFi.
