8 best cable modem with voip

A cable modem with VoIP capability is a networking device that combines two functionalities: serving as a cable modem for internet connectivity and incorporating Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) technology for making phone calls over the internet. This combination of features is often referred to as a "voice-enabled cable modem" or "VoIP cable modem." Here's what you should know about it:

  1. Cable Modem Functionality: The primary function of a cable modem is to connect your home network to your internet service provider (ISP) via a cable connection. It modulates and demodulates data between your home network and the ISP's network, allowing you to access the internet at high speeds through your cable TV line.

  2. VoIP Capability: VoIP technology allows you to make phone calls using the internet instead of traditional telephone lines. A cable modem with VoIP integrates this technology, enabling you to use your existing telephone or a VoIP phone to make and receive calls.

  3. Features: Cable modems with VoIP often come with various features such as call waiting, caller ID, voicemail, and call forwarding. These features are similar to what you would find in a traditional landline phone service.

  4. Cost Savings: Using a cable modem with VoIP can potentially save you money compared to having separate cable internet and landline phone services. VoIP calls are often more affordable than traditional phone calls, especially for long-distance and international calls.

  5. Quality of Service: VoIP quality depends on your internet connection's speed and stability. A reliable and high-speed internet connection is crucial for clear and uninterrupted VoIP calls. Therefore, it's important to ensure that your cable modem with VoIP supports the required bandwidth for both internet and voice services.

  6. Compatibility: Not all cable modems support VoIP, so it's essential to check with your ISP or equipment provider to ensure compatibility. You may also need to use specific VoIP-compatible phones or adapters.

  7. Installation: Setting up a cable modem with VoIP usually involves connecting your cable line to the modem, connecting the modem to your home network, and connecting your phone to the VoIP-enabled modem. The exact installation process can vary depending on the device and service provider.

  8. Service Providers: Various ISPs offer cable modem and VoIP services bundled together. When choosing a provider, consider factors such as pricing, available features, and customer support.

  9. Security: As with any internet-connected device, it's essential to maintain security measures for your cable modem with VoIP. This includes setting strong passwords, enabling firewalls, and keeping the firmware up to date to protect against potential security threats.

In summary, a cable modem with VoIP combines high-speed internet access and telephone services into a single device. It offers the convenience of using the internet for making phone calls and can potentially save you money compared to separate internet and landline phone subscriptions. Ensure compatibility with your ISP and consider factors like call quality, features, and security when choosing a cable modem with VoIP.

User questions & answers

Question: I need to use a computer that does not have wifi. Can I connect a desktop directly to the ethernet port
Answer: The maximum wifi throughtput to a 802.11AC wireless device is approximately 360Mbps for 2x2 MIMO cell phone and 720 for a 4x4 MIMO cell phone. Your Iphone XS is a 2x2 MIMO. under the most ideal conditions expect above 300 Mbps so long as the ISP service speed, modem and router/AP configuration are set up to deliver the higher speeds. The 801.11AX won't increase your hardwares maximum capable speed but it will manage the data flow better regardless if your client is wifi 6 capable or not.
Question: Will it work on my existing mobile shared data plan(hotspot enabled) or do i need new data plan? will it work in india too? can anyone point to any pl
Answer: If you have over 1200 sq ft and some distance I suggest installing wired access points to help signal. 2.4 ghz signals travel further than 5 ghz but are also prone to interference. I installed a tp link access point with an Ethernet cable run through my attic into my garage so my speed is equal everywhere. Access points are far less problematic than other options such as mesh or extenders
Question: Has anyone tried it on the verizon network? it says not all bands available with verizon so i'd like to know if it worked out ok or not
Answer: I just purchase NETGEAR Nighthawk AX12 12-Stream WiFi 6 Router (RAX120) - AX6000. My network is faster than when using my old AC router. The range is also much better and I have no WiFi 6 devices. So is it worth it? YES! Instead of getting around 145 mbs download speeds, I now see around 250 mbs. And I only pay for 200. Go figure.
Question: Why are you selling at double the price that Netgear is selling this
Answer: If in my search for a new router I end up deciding to shun Wi-Fi altogether, and ultimately live in a cave, my time spent will have been made worthwhile by this question. I will be laughing at this for days. You may think I need to get a life because of that, but that doesn’t make your question any less funny. :-) And to Phil Anderson who provided the answer, hats off to you too!

Question: does it work with optimum 1 gig

Question: Mac address not released, still activated on someone else’s account (comcast). how do we go about resolving this issue
Answer: Comcast needs to release the MAC. Good luck getting them to release and reassign to you.
Question: Is this modem compatible with optimum online
