11 best adsl modems

we can provide general information about ADSL modems and their related categories.

ADSL Modems (General Overview):

  1. Purpose:

    • ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) modems are networking devices used to connect to the internet over telephone lines. They facilitate the transmission of digital data signals, such as internet traffic, over existing copper telephone lines.
  2. Modem Router Combos:

    • Many ADSL modems are integrated with routers, creating a single device known as a "modem router combo." These combo devices serve the dual purpose of connecting to the ADSL network and providing a local network for multiple devices.
  3. Networking Products:

    • ADSL modems and modem router combos fall under the category of networking products. They enable homes and businesses to establish a wired or wireless network for internet access.
  4. Connectivity:

    • ADSL modems connect to the internet service provider's network through the existing telephone line infrastructure. They often feature Ethernet ports for wired connections and may support Wi-Fi for wireless connectivity.
  5. Speed and Asymmetry:

    • ADSL is known for its asymmetric nature, meaning that the upload and download speeds are different. In ADSL, download speeds are typically faster than upload speeds.
  6. Compatibility:

    • ADSL modems need to be compatible with the specific ADSL standards used by the internet service provider. Compatibility ensures a reliable and efficient connection.
  7. Security Features:

    • Modem router combos may come with built-in security features, such as firewalls and encryption protocols, to help protect the connected devices from online threats.
  8. Configuration and Management:

    • Users can typically configure and manage ADSL modems through a web-based interface. This interface allows users to set up network settings, configure security features, and manage connected devices.
  9. Obsolescence:

    • It's worth noting that as technology evolves, newer broadband technologies like fiber-optic broadband may replace ADSL in some areas. Therefore, the use of ADSL modems may decline over time in favor of more advanced technologies.

If you're considering purchasing an ADSL modem or modem router combo, it's essential to check with your internet service provider for compatibility and specific recommendations based on your location and service plan. Additionally, as technology advances, newer and faster broadband options may become available in different regions.

User questions & answers

Question: is it compatible with netgear nighthawk x6 router
Answer: Will work with any router especially a better but any router i s fine
Question: This is a modem/router or just a modem
Answer: Router and Modem combined. Router has all the functionality you need for home network. Firewall/DHCP/Port forwarding etc. I just put my wireless router in Firewall/DHCP OFF and made it a wireless access point. Plugged the DM200 into a LAN port of the wireless router and now all wireless clients have internet/LAN access. Great having a router/modem in one box under $100.I have Century Link. They are unfortunate souls....clueless. They couldnt make their ADSL2+ modem work. Come to find out they have VDSL and didnt know it. What a bunch of bozo's :) Once I had my PPPoE login and password the DM200 took it from there.Firewall test show the DM200 is totally stealth. DM200 is easy to configure and a great little Router/Modem combo.
Question: Will this work with at&t dsl
Answer: Be certain it is actual AT&T DSL not UVerse DSL. The line between the two is often blurred in many areas.
Question: Will this work with windstream vdsl (not bonded
Answer: I have it. Yes. You have to set it up as vdsl pppoe. Search up the user manual for it and go to that section.

User questions & answers

Question: Will this modem work on my Frontier DSL line
Answer: The TD-8616 is just a modem, meaning it will convert between the type of signal your computer can use (Ethernet) and type that goes over your phone line (ADSL2+).The TD-8816 is a modem and a router, the router allows you to share a single Internet connection with multiple computers at the same time. This gets a little more complicated since for most people you are going to connect this to some wireless access point which will also act as a router. Having two routers in your home connected to each other can cause issues such as double-NAT.In short if you want to connect this directly to your computer with a single wire, buy the TD-8816 so you get the add protection of the router/firewall. If you want to connect this to a wireless access point (I suggest a TL-WDR3600 as a cost effective solution) buy the TD-8616. You may need to call your ISP in either case to help get it setup.
Question: Does anyone know what is the difference between TD-8816 and TD
Answer: Works for me on CenturyLink, but i had to call tech support to get the PPPoE login and Password which is different than your Centurylink account login and PW.
Question: centurylink
Answer: The confusion stems from the fact that in recent years, most home internet access has moved to all in one devices that fulfill multiple roles. However, there are many functions that are part of providing internet access and each can potentially be assigned to seperate devices. In most home internet access you have:A modem - this is specific to the type of service you have (cable or DsL). Its job is to translate the signal from your service provider into something your local device can understand. Usually this is done by coverting the signal to Ethernet.A router - this device takes the signal from your modem and does a variety transformations to it to allow multiple devices to connect to the internet. It is usually also the device that hands out addresses to your local devices. It is also known as your gateway, as all traffic to and from the internet goes through it.A switch - this device takes care of distributing the signal from your router to all devices that are physically connected on your local network. This is almost exclusively done over RJ45 CAT 5 cabling. Looks like an over sized phone plug.A wireless access point - this device takes care of distributing the signal from your router to all device that are connected wirelessly to your local network. There is a wide variety of types protocol to do this with 802.11 a, b, g, n and ac being the most commonly in use.To simplify things for end users, many devices combine multiple functions into one. The most common device type at this time is one that combines a router, switch and wireless access point into one unit so that all you have to do is connect your provider's modem and maybe go through a few setup screens. The TD-8816 combines combines a modem and a router and goes from a phone line to Ethernet. The TD-8817 combines a modem and a router and goes from phone line to either Ethernet or USB. It also appears to have the ability to disable its router allowing you to turn it into a simple modem. This how some people would use it if they had a single PC and no need to share the connection. Your computer would then become a router of sorts but with only itself as the member of the local network. Most users nowadays do not use this configuration. Sorry for the long post. Hopefully this helps.
Question: I am now confused about the difference between the tp-link td 8817 and 8616, based on responses by jonathan hanson on 3/23/14 and as atwood on
Answer: If you mean voice activation like Alexa, I dont think so.

User questions & answers

Question: Does this connect via phone line or coaxal cable
Answer: The Cisco RV132W router with product ID RV132W-A-K9-NA comes with US power plug whereas the RV132W-E-K9-AU comes with Australia power plug so if you are going to deploy the RV in Australia you would purchase AU version (RV132W-E-K9-AU). Please also note since the RV132W is wireless router there is also difference in the band plans between the US and AU product versions with the approved radio channels. For more information about the features you can visit the product data sheet web page at https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/routers/small-business-rv-series-routers/datasheet-c78-736464.html
Question: Really, an Australia plug, for my US residence
Answer: When you use AT&T Uverse, you have to use AT&T gateway in order to get the service. Even though it doesn't mean you have to settle for the WiFi that it provides. That means you can use the RV132W router to boost your wireless to the level that you would normally expect from a router. The RV132W can be used behind the AT&T gateway, placed in either DMZ mode or IP Pass Through (https://www.att.com/support/smallbusiness/article/smb-internet/KM1188700/).
Question: does it work with att uverse
Answer: Yes, the RV132W does have embedded ADSL modem so it can be used as a second ADSL connection. However, you will need to confirm with your Service Provider whether it is doable or not splitting the line.
Question: Can this be used as a second adsl modem on a single residential line? i have one in one room and was wondering if i can use this instead of extender
Answer: According to their website, it is compatible with ADSL.

User questions & answers

Question: Can an external antenna be added? Can the antenna power be increased
Answer: There is no external antenna port on this device. The antenna is built in. Antenna power cannot be increased.
Question: Is this comparable with frontier dsl
Answer: Yes, but Frontier refuses to drop the $10 per month fee for 2 years meaning their unit will cost you $240 over the course of 2 years.. Gigantic rip-off. Don't purchase if you are committed to their agreement. The FCC should be alerted to this Frontier scam!
Question: Can this router be used on Consolidated Communications
Answer: I don’t understand your specific question. I can only say, as rather IT savy person, I could not get this modem to connect to my DSL internet. I spent over an hour with Comcast and at the end, I requested a return of this device. I do not recommend this device, which has other reviews of being unable to connect.
Question: Is this compatiable with at&t
Answer: It did not seem to be. I sent it back.

User questions & answers

Question: Dos this model works with a dsl internet connection vs adsl? little unclear based on the description if this can work as both. thanks
Answer: I contacted Wendy @ Windstream and she said "It may be possible to use an existing Windstream modem or a modem/router that has worked on another DSL provider's network. Please note that Windstream technical support cannot provide configuration or troubleshooting assistance on non-Windstream equipment. To check existing modem compatibility, contact a customer service representative. " So the answer is it probably will but you will have to use D-Lin support if you need help configuring it.
Question: Does ot work with windstream dsl
Answer: The modem comes with everything you need including a setup disk which worked for me despite the experience of some other reviewers. I have had the modem for several months with no problems and would recommend it. When something happened to my Internet connection, I found that unplugging the modem adapter, waiting several seconds, and then replugging it returned operation to normal. You can look at the actual manual via the company's link (following); it includes the list of contents in the box.http://www.dlink.com/-/media/Consumer_Products/DSL/DSL%20520B/Manual/DSL-520B_Manual_US.pdf
Question: Does this come with a manual/setup guide and the cables
Answer: No USB port.
Question: Does this modem have a USB port
Answer: Yes it works with Centurylink ADSL plans (upload is up to 1M). NOT VDSL PLAN (upload speed is 10m)
Question: will it worl with Centurylink
Answer: It should but note this model was discontinued in 2011 and is no longer supported. You should call your ISP to see if this modem is compatible.
Question: does it works outside US
Answer: Based off the research it did...it would appear that it does work with ATTACHED.
Question: will it work with ATT u-verse
Answer: Sorry, tour answer is NO, the description clearly indicates it’s a Modem/Router which is not what was asked.
Question: Is this a modem only
Answer: That's what I used mine for, worked just fine.

User questions & answers

Question: Does this work with at&t dsl
Answer: No, Comcast is cable modem and this one is ADSL. Different technology.
Question: Does it work with Comcast
Answer: Yes,you need to make sure that you have DSL service account open from your internet provider., not cable, not Fiber. This device will connect to your telephone line and you need to get into the device setup page to setup all internet access your account username and password, etc...
Question: Just to be clear, this connects to the internet via a dsl phone line correct
Answer: It would be best if you asked AT&T. This is ADSL2+, but it expects a copper twisted pair phone line inside the house, not fiber. It works with my Sonic.net service that uses AT&T hardware for "land line" phone service with DSL. I do not have fiber in my area, so the odds of it working for me are better because I do not know how the "fiber" end affects the service and what hardware it needs.
Question: Does this work with AT&T uverse
Answer: It works with my 3G phone and some what with 4G. My situation with DSL is the Up load speed at only .75 Mbs. Down load is 8 Mbs. So the the data rate up and down from Verizon will be the import issue. I think the MODEM is capable of 10 Mbs. The spec sheet on the ASUS DSL-N10 will have that info. Good Luck
Question: Does this work with verizon wireless dsl
Answer: Not sure specifically about CalWeb's service. If CalWeb's service is DSL it should work, best to check with CalWeb directly. Generally the ISP has a list of acceptable devices that will work with their service. I am using it with Century Link's DSL.
Question: Will it work with cal web internet services adsl light 768kb
Answer: Yes you have to bridge it
Question: Can this be used only as a modem? I want to use a netgear router with this
Answer: It will depend on the "condition" of the telephone lines and the distance from a phone company's equipment. I have Century Link and I am getting about 8 mbps on down load and 0.75 mbps on upload
Question: How many mbps download
Answer: A pair of them can grip the wi-fi signal by the husk and fly it to the world wide web.

User questions & answers

Question: Does it work with Verizon Dsl
Answer: Yes, you will have to enter your login information for Verizon in it
Question: Is this compatible with frontier
Answer: would this work for frontier ADSL2 + Bonded ?
Question: Is this superior to the ATT DSL modem/router supplied with UVerse
Answer: UVerse uses VDSL. The modem built into the N600 is an ADSL+ modem and will not work with UVerse. You can use the N600 as a router only by connecting a VDSL modem to the router via the WAN connection.
Question: Before dropping $120.00 on this, how good is the range? Would it be bood for a 2500 sqft area
Answer: Our Netgear router is located on the 2nd floor of our home which is 1140 square feet. It reaches to the main floor (also 1140 square feet) without any problem as well as outside on the front porch and back deck. The home is wood construction with steel siding. I don't have any problems with reception. Some reviews said this router has limited range and I'm not sure what was meant by limited range.

User questions & answers

Question: Is this compatible with windstream dsl
Answer: I asked century link specifically by at least 5 personnel if it would work when I increased the speed. They all said it would. And NOW they say that those people told you wrong. It does work with them, but if your area only supports a vdsl transport type for higher speeds than it will not. I use to by on adsl and when I switched speeds the transport type switched too! ugh. so now I have to buy a different modem after I already purchased this one.
Question: Century Link told us to find a VDSL2 modem to work with a higher speed they offered. Will this one work? No VDSL2 listed, though it came up in search
Answer: If by dual-band you mean 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz spectrums... NO. This is only 2.4 GHz. However, I have 2 computers, 3 iPods, 2 android phones, an iPad, Xbox, and DVD player all connected and all of which work fine. Only one of those devices even has the ability to take advantage of 5 GHz capability anyway... the iPad. Furthermore, 2.4 GHz often has better signal through walls and floors than 5 GHz.
Question: support dual-band
Answer: N is just the next wireless standard (IEEE 802.11). Home WiFi routers have progress from A to B, G, and now N corresponding to speeds of approximately 1.5Mb, 11Mb, 52Mb, and 300Mb. Note that you will only get the 300Mbps speed if your computer (or other wireless device) also has a wireless-N adapter. If it is lower speed, this router will be backwards compatible and run at that speed. Also note that while your WiFi in your house may run at 300Mbps, your DSL connection through your phone line will not. Max speed for this ADSL2 modem are about 10Mbps, so that is about the best you can expect if you are paying for that level of service.
Question: What does the N in "Wireless N-DSL" modem/router mean....I'm clueless
Answer: Yes. It works with a standard phone line and ADSL.
