12 best docsis 3 0 cable modems
DOCSIS 3.0 cable modems are networking devices that are used to connect your home or business to the internet via a cable television line. Here are some key points about DOCSIS 3.0 cable modems:
Definition: DOCSIS stands for "Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification." DOCSIS 3.0 is a set of technical standards that govern how data is transmitted over cable television systems, specifically for high-speed internet access.
Data Speeds: DOCSIS 3.0 is an older version of the DOCSIS standard, but it still provides high-speed internet access. It is capable of delivering download speeds of up to 1 Gbps (gigabit per second) and upload speeds of up to 200 Mbps (megabits per second), depending on the specific modem and the service plan provided by your cable internet provider.
Channel Bonding: One of the key features of DOCSIS 3.0 is channel bonding. This technology allows multiple downstream and upstream channels to be combined, increasing the overall bandwidth and capacity of the cable modem. This results in faster internet speeds and improved performance.
Compatibility: DOCSIS 3.0 modems are widely compatible with most cable internet service providers. However, it's essential to check with your specific provider to ensure that the modem you choose is approved for use with their network.
Upgrade Considerations: While DOCSIS 3.0 modems are capable of providing high-speed internet access, newer versions of the DOCSIS standard, such as DOCSIS 3.1, have been developed to offer even faster speeds and improved performance. If you require extremely high-speed internet or your provider offers DOCSIS 3.1 service, you may want to consider upgrading to a DOCSIS 3.1 modem for the best performance.
Modem vs. Router: It's important to note that a DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem is specifically a device for connecting to your cable internet service. To set up a home network and provide Wi-Fi access to multiple devices, you will also need a separate router.
In summary, DOCSIS 3.0 cable modems are networking devices that enable high-speed internet access over cable television lines. They offer respectable download and upload speeds and are compatible with many cable internet providers. However, for the fastest available speeds, you may want to consider upgrading to a DOCSIS 3.1 modem if it's supported by your provider.

User questions & answers
Question: | Why does it say 4x ethernet ports in your description where there is only one |
Answer: | Because Amazon hasn't corrected their product subscription. I submitted one two weeks ago and has yet to be done. If you need more than 1 ethernet port, then this one is not for you. This has only (1) 2.5 Multi-Gig port. |
Question: | Does netgear cm500-1aznas work with tds provider |
Answer: | Yes. But you need to call the TDS customer service and provide your CMAC or SN to register your device. These numbers are on the box and the unit |
Question: | Can you use a phone to ethernet splitter for voice to work |
Answer: | I have never heard of a phone to internet splitter, at least not expressed in those terms. However, for VOIP (which means Voice Over Internet Protocall), you must have at least one phone jack in a modem, or a modem-router combination. Some modems have two such jacks, which could provide two different "lines." Most importantly, you must have your internet service provider's PERMISSION to install and use such a modem, or modem-router combination! My own ISP (Wow, aka Wowway.com) REFUSED to give such permission because that would cut into their profits, since they would no longer receive a monthly FEE to RENT their age-old junk, much of which are at least five years old, which is like a millenia in this day of super-fast-paced electronic offerings. I had to send back every VOIP-capable modem I bought from Amazon and other places because my ISP REFUSED to enable them to work with their so-called service(s). Talk about anti-competitive business practices ... U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC), are you paying any attention? |
Question: | I understand that this modem says it will only work with xfinity. but has anyone tried this with spectrum? (aka time warner cable |
Answer: | Hello. I am writing this Dec 2, 2020 and just activated this modem 2 days ago with Spectrum. It is not on the list of approved modems, but oddly enough the CM400 is. I just told the tech support who activated it that it was compatible and it's worked fine with no problems. I went from 100-120 mbs on my 100 mb plan to 250 to 450 mbs, still on the 100 mb plan. This modem is not on the list of approved models but it seems to work fine so far without periodic latency/drops like the Arris model from Spectrum had. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can I connect it to my computer for Ethernet connection |
Answer: | yes. It can if you have Internet service as part of your cable package |
Question: | Does this work with RCN cable/internet service |
Answer: | Only RCN can answer that question. I can say that this modem will handle at lease 110 Mbps because that was what I had. It did not handle 300Mbps. The modem worked perfectly and was very reliable. |
Question: | What kind of router is best to use with this modem |
Answer: | That is a very hard question to answer in a limited amount of space. First, think about getting the Model MG7310, which incorporates an N300 wireless router. You will probably save some money and you will reduce cable clutter, increase reliability (wiring connections are a frequent source of trouble) and save desk space by incorporating both modem and router in a single device. If the MG7310 won't work for you, here are some very general rules, but the choice of a router is definitely an individual decision that has to factor in price and performance. If you are in a dense setting like a high rise building or a dense condo or apartment complex, get a dual band wireless that has both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHZ frequency support. But that assumes your connecting devices like phones and computers support 5 GHz. If you live in a very large house, or a house with masonry walls rather than sheetrock, you will want WDS support in case you need to use a range extender. With that said, if you have a 50 Mbps cable service or slower, an N300 router will probably meet your needs and save you some money. Much more could be written on this topic, a search of the Internet should provide additional information. |
Question: | Do I need to contact my cable provider that I am changing my previse cable modem for this one, or will it work out of the box |
Answer: | Short version: Use your provider's self registration website, or whichever of their customer service methods work best for you. Long version: The cable modem will go online once powered and connected to a coaxial cable with good signal parameters. You still need service authorization from the cable modem termination system. Some cable internet service providers have self registration websites. Connect the coaxial cable to the modem, an ethernet cable to a computer, and connect the power cord to an outlet. This may also work over a wireless router and with wireless devices, but just using a computer can help isolate any setup issues. When your modem first goes online, the CMTS may recognize a foreign modem and direct your web browser to the registration website. If not, the registration website can be manually searched for, which is where a secondary internet connection of some sort can come in handy. If you have your account information already, the only other thing you may need to add is the CMAC, or Cable modem Media Access Control address. Some registration systems can detect this automatically. This is the number that distinguishes your modem from all of the others, and should be on the modem if not also on a label in the box. At the end of the process, the modem will probably restart on command of the CMTS. Once it is back online, test your internet connection. You may need to power cycle the modem (unplug it and plug it back in) or reset it (hold the reset button for long enough) before using it with other equipment, most commonly a wireless router. This particular product is just a modem, so if you previously used the wireless network coming out of the cable company's equipment, you would also need your own wireless router or other networking equipment. This whole process can often be done ahead of time and the new modem plugged in later, but be advised that the previous modem (if it is still online) will lose its service. Also be aware that if the wiring leading to an old modem has issues, changing modems will not fix the real issue and is not likely to make the service any better. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this modem support phone service from Xfinity |
Answer: | No. |
Question: | Is there any way i could use this in china? i've entered pppoe id and pw provided by isp on wan setting which is set as l2tp, but no luck |
Answer: | Wherever you are...; be it China or the USA; you must take your device to the local office of your ISP (Internet Service Provider) and have them approve it plus register it with their system. ISP protocols are generally universal worldwide but also universal is the premise that you may not access their system without their permission and they expect to get paid for providing the service |
Question: | Is this router compatable for voip phone services provided by the cable provider |
Answer: | No. |
Question: | how is the warranty isuue? how long |
Answer: | Warranty is for 3 months. I'd recommend to buy a new one not refurbished. My modem isn't working any more. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What is the difference between this modem, the SB6183, and the SB |
Answer: | The SB6180 enables channel bonding of up to 8 downstream channels and 4 upstream channels, which allows an operator to offer their customers advanced multimedia services with data rates of well over 300 Mbps in DOCSIS mode and 400 Mbps in EuroDOCSIS mode for downstream and 120 Mbps upstream. The SB6183 has 16 download & 4 upload channels. Download speeds up to 686 Mbps and upload speeds up to 131 Mbps based on your Cable provider service. That is the main difference I could find. I hope it helps. |
Question: | do most users need such a fast cable modem? I have comcast performance....is this over kill or futureproofing with docis 3.1 on horizaen |
Answer: | DOCSIS 3.1 is here, true. And the first set of cable modems using the standard will offer some improvements. As with many technologies, they don't saturate the market overnight. In most cases the availability and maturity of a technology in the marketplace can take years - as much as 3 to 5 years. Even if 15 to 20 percent of the market goes to DOCSIS 3.1 in the first or second year, that says 80 percent hasn't. Future proofing your technology is nice, but a measure of sensibility should be used too. I went to the ARRIS SB6183 knowing that my ISP service is 200 Mbps. It allows a considerable cushion for growth. If my ISP's average speeds jumped to 500 Mbps, and I were to consider another cable modem upgrade, I would focus on a faster cable modem that uses the DOCSIS 3.1 standard or any newer and more powerful standard - allowing me to benefit from the latest standards and speeds. The DOCSIS 3.0 standard may well be nearing its End-of-Life in 2 to 3 years. Therefore, I would see no value going to a 1.4 Gbps DOCSIS 3.0 modem. |
Question: | Does ARRIS/Motorola support firmware upgrades for the 6183 via downloads to the consumer's computer |
Answer: | The Cable Operators (MSOs) have complete control of what cable modem/gateway hardware they will allow installed and the firmware it uses, on their cable plant. This means anything directly connected to the cable plant (COAX) in your house. They do this to ensure that nothing happens to anyone upstream from your connections. Cable Operators follow the DOCSIS Specifications that control this methodology of firmware upgrades as well as providing security for the firmware upgrades. Cable Operators also run both the products and firmware through their own test cycles to approve any manufacturers' modems, wireless gateways, and the associated firmware updates for deployment. This is not an ARRIS only implementation, but the required implementation of any cable device manufacturer. After an MSO has tested and approved a new version of firmware for a cable device, they will then "push" that new firmware out to the devices. So upgrades to the modem firmware will be made automatically but you cannot download them to your computer and perform the upgrade yourself. |
Question: | I purchased this item almost 8 weeks ago 8 August 2014 will i receive this item in my lifetime or will i need to leave this item in my will for my kid |
Answer: | Purchased SB6183 a week ago, My invoice says estimated shipping between Oct 1 to 10th. What was your estimate date? If i don't see any update by Oct5th i'm going to cancel my order and stick with SB6141. |

User questions & answers
Question: | I have time warner cable speed of 200 mb. with this router, will i be able to get 200 mbps on wifi |
Answer: | If by "phone" the writer refers to a cell phone, it could be connected via a USB adapter, but is it worth the expense and the effort? It's essentially a legacy box. It would require a USB to serial port converter to connect it to the phone plus a receptacle for the power, plus an app or software to use it. There are smaller and cheaper FAX Modem units that convert USB directly to an RJ11 POTS (Plain Old Telephone System) connector. Here's one from Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/V-TOP-External-V-92-Modem-Cable/dp/B00XW5QYWS/ref=sr_1_3 It requires an adapter to convert the USB connector to the phone's Micro USB, such as this. https://www.amazon.com/CableCreation-Female-Assorted-Direction-Straight/dp/B013G4DMCE/ref=sr_1_2_sspa After that, an app or software would be needed to allow the phone to communicate with the POTS, and to send/receive faxes if that's the intent. IAC, the Zoom 3049 modem was designed for use with computers, and it is impractical for phones. |
Question: | Do I need another product to go with this to get wii connection to devices in my house wirelessly |
Answer: | Hi, this modem pre-dated Windows 10 PRO by many years. The package says that it supports up to Windows Vista so I can't say for sure. They might have released driver updates for subsequent releases. You can try calling zoom and asking. The number is below. Zoom Telephonics Inc. 99 High Street Boston, MA 02110 Telephone: (617) 423-1072 |
Question: | Is this compatible with Windows |
Answer: | No, it must be connected to a computer. The included DVD contains a driver and software that allows the computer to communicate with the modem. |
Question: | May I hear from those who actually have this modem & use it w/regular Comcast internet service? Will it work with up to 25mbps |
Answer: | I purchased the Zoom 3049 almost 10 years ago, but it came with a serial cable. One end of the cable has a male DB25 connector, and the other end is a female DB9. The DB25 connects to the back of the modem. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this modem come with all the paperwork telling me how to change the password and name of the wifi |
Answer: | This modem does not have WIFI capabilities. You must purchase a router with WiFi and connect it to this modem. This is just a modem, not a modem router combo. |
Question: | Does it have a battery backup |
Answer: | Battery backup for most cable modem situations is worthless because, if your power is out, it's also likely that the amplifiers on the telephone poles for the cable are out as well, so no signal would get to the modem if it was still powered. |
Question: | How to set it up |
Answer: | Step 1 open box Step 2 unplug any modem and router you have if any Step 3 connect coaxial cable from wall to this modem Step 4 connect power to modem Step 5 turn on power Step 6 call your internet service provider and tell them you habe a new modem then give them mac and/or serial # of modem (this info is on bottom of modem on stand) Step 7 let them setup and update modem Step 8 plug cat cable from modem to laptop to test internet Step 9 if using router, plug in power to router and connect to modem. If router is still powered on (you skipped step 2), turn off router and wait 1 min, don't turn on yet. This resets the modem info in the router. Step 10 connect cat cable from modem to router Step 11 wait for router to startup, if internet is not online after 5 minutes, cycle power on both modem and router at the same time to refresh |
Question: | Is the delivery timely |

- Owning the Archer CR700 saves you the modem rental fees charged by many Internet Service Providers. Over time, the savings created by owning the Archer CR700 allow it to effectively pay for itself.
- Plus, the Archer CR700 doubles as a high-speed Wireless AC router, which some ISPs also charge fees to rent. With the Archer CR700, you can lower your monthly internet bill while improving the performance of your home Wi-Fi network.
Beamforming for Stronger Connections
- The cable modem router is equipped with beamforming technology, allowing it to locate Wi-Fi devices and focus its wireless signal towards them instead of sending it in all directions at once.
- With Beamforming, your Wi-Fi Connections become stronger and more reliable across your home, even as you carry mobile devices from room to room.
Guest Network and Parental Controls
- The Archer CR700's Parental Controls lets you manage when and how connected devices can access the Internet.
- The cable modem router's Guest Network feature provides visitors with Wi-Fi access separate from your main network.
Hassle-Free Setup
Get the Archer CR700 up and running in no time. Use a coaxial cable to connect the Archer CR700 to your computer or router, and contact your ISP* to activate the modem router.
*XFINITY from Comcast and Spectrum allow you to activate your modem through the self-activation wizards on their websites.
ISP Compatibility
The Archer CR700 is compatible with major cable ISPs, including XFINITY from Comcast, Cox, Spectrum, and more.

User questions & answers
Question: | can i track individual device' data usage? i bought it for this reason but i dont see that option in the app or webpage |
Answer: | You can, you have to log into the 192.168.1.1 and sign in. It is under WiFi usage. |
Question: | How do we set this up to use instead of the Comcast modem rental? The Comcast customer service rep said he doesn't believe it's compatible |
Answer: | You will need the MAC address for the device ready to go before you call your cable provider. After you plug it in and hook it up to your internet feed from your provider and power it on, call their help desk and tell them you have a new cable modem and need this device (MAC) it to be set up under your account. You provide them the MAC address and they should be able to see your device on their network. Once they get it set up, you can connect your WIFI router to the cable modem and they should be able to see the WIFI router connected to your new cable modem. Enjoy saving $ by not renting a cable modem from the provider. |
Question: | if i already have a modem installed, would i just have to unplug that modem and plug this one in to work or would i have to contact my ISP |
Answer: | It is a simple swap, however you do have to contact your ISP to activate it. It's actually one of the easiest things to do with my cable company and you might actually be able to do it online from a smartphone via the ISP's website. |
Question: | Can this router handle gigabyte internet service |
Answer: | No. NO. Nooooooooooo! I will try to submit a picture with speed trials but in short- it is a complete lie and false advertising to state openly or even imply that this can handle 1 Gig speeds. Directly connected with a 6ft Ethernet cable I cap out at around 576 Mbps (roughly half of a Gig service) but when I swap to Wifi it drops by an order of magnitude to ~ 50 Mbps or 1/20th of a Gig service. Xfinity technicians came out 3 separate times and verified that we are getting 1 Gig speeds but I was told that you need DOCSIS 3.1 to handle 1 Gig service. Really regretting paying so much for this junk. It looks sharp, I will say that but for two people trying to teach via Zoom this device can't handle it. Loses connection and/or poor service DAILY! |

Answer: | It works really well with my new time capsule! Details on time capsule here: http://www.apple.com/airport-time-capsule/ |
Question: | Is this compatible with Time-Warner cable and will this work with Google Voice? Can i use the Netgear 7550 for its router |
Answer: | I live in Queens New York, and I have this modem for a few months with time warner cable . I got 100 Mbps with no issues using the Asus Wireless Router .That's what I paid for, I don't know if we the modem can take the 200 or 300 Mbps. It will work with Google voice |
Question: | Any advice on the steps to set it up? Is the serial number necessary? (I am having Comcast |
Answer: | I have Comcast and the SN is necessary to get it setup (call them). Mine had the SN blacked out so I had to plug it into a computer, then use a browser to see the SN by logging into the admin screen (192.168.0.1) |
Question: | will this work with comcast (xfinity) hi speed internet & vonage home phone? thanks |
Answer: | I bought it specifically to replace the comcast supplied modem after I terminated my landline. It is supposed to work with comcast hi speed internet, but it performed poorly. I returned it and replaced it with the equivalent Motorola model which has been far superior in performance (cost about $20-30 more.) I suspect that this model works better with satelite, but this is merely speculation. I would not recommend it. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this work with u-verse |
Answer: | yes approved with at@t. |
Question: | Keeps dropping out. Installed June 30,2016 and have not been able to resolve the issue of constant dropping out of internet connection. Any ideas |
Answer: | Probably a loss of signal issue. See the link that follows for guidelines related to Comcast, which are most likely comparable to other providers. I would recommend contacting your provider to be sure it isn't something they can help with. Check for all compression fittings to the modem, be sure it isn't being split. Might need an in line signal amplifier. http://forums.xfinity.com/t5/Your-Home-Network/Connection-Troubleshooting-Tips/m-p/1253575#U1253575 |
Question: | Does this modem have a telephone port |
Answer: | Are their any with a telephone port |
Question: | Can I hook a rip current directly to this modem / router or would I need to buy a ripcurrent modem as well |
Answer: | The SURFboard SBG6900 has built-in Wi-Fi, but unfortunately, it is not enabled with RipCurrent (G.hn technology), If you are interested in a RipCurrent solution, I would recommend purchasing the SURFboard SB6901 cable modem, which is the same modem unit as the SBG6900 but without the Wi-Fi. Then, I would purchase one of the RipCurrent routers, such as the SBR AC1200 or SBR AC3200 and add either a wired or wireless extender, depending upon your needs |
