    User questions & answers

Question: Can the TS-328 ram be upgraded
Answer: I do not believe any of the lower-end QNAP NAS models can be upgraded. I have the TS-431 and it cannot be upgraded. The only way to increase memory on these models is to order the model with more memory.
Question: Can i use raid 5 hard disk and the other bays is just ordinary harddisk
Answer: The quick answer is yes, you can use any 3.5" SATA 6GB/s drives (or 2.5" SATA drives, even 2.5" SATA SSD, with proper tray adapter) for this QNAP TS-328 NAS to function. But the durability and performance of any hard drive will depend on the specs of that hard drive itself- e.g., designed for desktop (usually considered as "ordinary"), server, NAS, etc). Just to clarify the definition of "RAID 5 hard disk"- I think you meant hard drives specifically designed to used inside a NAS (RAID). While you can use any "ordinary" 3.5" SATA hard drive (or 2.5" with tray adapter), how long it will last and how fast it can perform will be different than a hard drive designed to be used in a NAS. There is no single "RAID 5 hard disk" as an individual hard drive type per se. On the other hand, "RAID 5" is a specific RAID level configuration that uses block-level data striping and distributes parity to all the disks. A group of hard drives installed in a NAS (RAID) can support various RAID configurations if that NAS offers those configuration options (e.g., RAID 1,0, RAID 5, RAID 6 etc). In the case of the QNAP T-328, it is designed to support RAID 5. Hope this helps.
    Question: How many disk included
Answer: No disks includes with this.
Question: Can hard drives be upgraded? let’s say i start with 3x1tb drives then i replace the 1tb drives to 4tb ones
Answer: Hi D.L., Yes, drives can be upgraded. You can reference the following to see how this works. https://www.qnap.com/en/how-to/tutorial/article/online-raid-capacity-upgrade/ Thanks!

    User questions & answers

Question: In raid 1 mode can one hard drives be removed and is readable on another computer without an qnap enclosure
Answer: Qnap formats by default to ex4. It will read and write to ntfs drives, but have never attempted to set up a ntfs raid. If your other computer runs Linux there's a good chance a two disk raid 1 would be readable.
Question: Replaced 4x2tb drives with 4x 4 tb drives one by one while in raid 5, i expected the tr004 to recognize extra space on last replacement. not. so how
Answer: RAID does not work like that. When you create an ARRAY, the configuration is written to a configuration file that is either stored on the drives/array or whatever software RAID file you are using. Even in Enterprise Storage, this is how it works. Swapping out to a larger drive will not increase your disk space. You would need to backup your data, then wipe and create a new ARRAY.
Question: Can i put my existing hdd (with files) from my pc to this das
Answer: Hi Myk, No, the DAS will reformat the drives. Thanks!
Question: Can i set this up for raid 1 with 2 drives and jbod/single with the other 2 drives
Answer: I think the question is implying can you set this unit up with two concurrent RAID volumes. A) A RAID 1 set with drives in slot 1 & 2 and concurrently B) a JBOD set with drives in slot 3 & 4. Based on DIP switches, no. It would need multiple sets of dip switches to accomplish this and it appears there is only one set of switches on the chassis. By software, it is a possibility if the management software is slick enough to support this. It would come down to what QNAP provided in the software management console. As I don't have one of these yet, I can't confirm.
