User questions & answers

Question: Do it work in gigabyte aero 15 oled
Answer: Yes
Question: I would like to build a Linux machine. What motherboards are compatiable wih this drive
Answer: Please check the manual of your computer. For example, I use a computer HP Elitebook 850 G3, I read the manual from HP, it can support NVMe PCIe drives - [M.2 (2280) 256 GB PCIe-3×4 SS NVMe]. So I bought this disk and it has worked well. I have installed with Fedora 30 Linux and MS Windows 10 Pro.
Question: Es compatible con la board b450 aorus pro wifi
Answer: Yes
Question: I will use for gaming, so largest file would be 60gb. Will this drive slow down after I fill it up to 700gb of games? I have 20mbps internet
Answer: It isn't a significant upgrade going from sata ssd to nvme unless you often edit big videos. The 660p is slow when writing data in its native QLC mode so it begins by writing in SLC-cache mode. Once this cache runs out it's then as slow as a hard drive and as the drive fills up it will reach that limit ever more quickly and then you will regret it. It's better just to get a premium SATA SSD like a Western Digital Blue or Samsung 860 EVO. One 660p user: "I got the 1tb 660p and i am not happy with it. slc cache is way smaller than advertised. My drive is around 50% full and after ~10-11gb write boom 100mb/s." Another: "I own a 1TB 660P. I do not like the SLOW sequential writes. I find the Adata SX8200 PRO a great middle ground. It is very nearly as fast as a Sammy NVME ssd." Another: "DO NOT BUY THIS SSD in my opinion. Id say Im your typical PC user and Ive bought it brand new a month ago and sold it now after a month. It was 1TB version. Your PC will feel fast, however you will face its limitations once in a while and they are extremely annoying. I had just built a brand new PC and had to copy some big files more than once, so I encountered these problems too many times. Its sustained writes are unaceptepbly slow! Whenever you'll need to transfer bigger files, games etc. its speed drops to 100MB/s. In theory the speed drops depending how full it is, but you are buying 1TB so that you could use it and not for keeping half of it empty so it would work fast. I dont know if it is because of drivers or because of the technology but I believe it may be a little more complicated than just keeping some free space in it. Its sustained writes speed could be low in my experience even when its almost empty. I had the pleasure of formating this 1TB SSD at 100MB/s before selling it, so I know. And I tried formating piece by piece and other methods. From my experience it gets slow when you use it a lot and not necessarily when it is getting more full. Probably both of these things affect the speed. You can clear the cache in Intel software but it often helped only temporarily and 10GB into copying you get 100MB/s again." "Not the fastest, but bang for the buck except when it comes to thermals. It runs so hot I had to pull it from my work station. So be advised, if you use this chip it could even double the temperature of your system board." Mr Intel, what is a 5-year warranty? Zero years, sir, and that's a cast-iron fist-pumpin' guarantee.

User questions & answers

Question: Can I pop the casing off and mount this drive internally
Answer: Reformatting this external SSD will not do anything to its cache. In any case, the cache is used only during read/write operations, you can’t directly address it as a user and don’t have to think about it at all. You can reformat in APFS for best Mac performance or use any other scheme you need, including multiple partitions each formatted differently.
Question: Xbox One, your favorite game lags on multiplayer, will this help if moved to device
Answer: Yes
Question: Can this be used with desktop computer as the boot disk? or must i use an interanl ssd
Answer: Yes, I found it too small for myself SNV I returned it
Question: Is the drive slc: single-level cell nand flash or mlc: the 2-bit data multi-level cell (mlc) flash or emlc or tlc: triple-level cells (3-bit) nand
Answer: Yes.as long as you use the same size and interface.

User questions & answers

Question: How do you format this and why is that necessary for new drives? What stops me from plugging it right into my system and getting started
Answer: Depends on what you're doing. You can connect this to your system but new drives will not be functional until you initialize them and create a partition under Disk Management. Your other option (what I did with this drive) is to disconnect your existing drive and then install this (while PC is off if that's not obvious). Then you have a blank drive in your system and can boot from an OS disc like Windows 10. A fresh Windows 10 installation will still recognize the drive and be able to initialize it properly as well as create the necessary partitions. Let me know if you have any follow up questions.
Question: Hi i have questions how the better samsung evo 970 or wd black 250gb high-performance nvme pcie gen3 8 gb/s m
Answer: Reviews have suggested that the two drives are VERY close in performance (nearly within margin of error of tests). The WD Black gen3 devices were the first ones to actually challenge the 960 EVO NVMe drives for dominance of the high-performance consumer grade SSDs. You can't go wrong with either one, as far as I can tell, at least from reviews. They'll provide insignificant differences in speed/performance between the two. Therefore, you should purchase based on price and (if it's important to you) warranty. Note also that the WD drive caps at 1TB in size (vs. 2 TB for the 970 EVO), so if you wanted to go that route, there's only one choice. As far as "best high-performance consumer level" NVMe drive, the 970 EVO and the 3rd generation WD black are on an even playing field, and both at the top of the stack (this ignores the "prosumer" market devices like the 970 Pro where prices are much higher per gigabyte). Note that it's possible that you won't notice any performance difference between these high-performance NVMe drives and, say, a high-quality SATA drive.
Question: I want the 2 TB, is it possible
Answer: If you find someone with TB, you can have as much of it as you want!
Question: Whats the difference between this one and the 960 pro
Answer: The 960 Pro is from the previous generation. The newer one is the 970 Pro. Comparing the 960 Pro to the newer 970 EVO is a bit difficult because they aren't in the same class. The Primary difference between the Pro and the EVO is the Pro uses MLC (Multi Level Cell) whereas the EVO uses a Triple Level Cell. Case and point with the EVO. You can get a 2tb EVO drive but the Pro tops out at 1tb. The silicon is able to get more storage space for the real estate with TLC. On the other hand MLC is more reliable and more hearty than TLC which is why the Pro is using the MLC. Maybe you want to know about write endurance. One thing to keep in mind about write endurance is you will probably never come close to hitting it's limits unless you are using the drive all the time to save and load large files like a professional would. Also, the write endurance of the 1tb 970 Pro is double the write endurance of the 512gb 970 Pro. hardware review sites and done tests of the actual write cycle longevity of these drives and these drives last longer than what they're rated for. More than likely in your case, these drives will be long obsolete by the time they're half worn out. The write endurance of the 500gb 970 EVO is 300TB write cycles. Sequential R/W of the 970 EVO is 3400MB/s read and 2300MB/s write. I believe the 970 evo uses a Single Level Cell cache to boost write speeds. The write endurance of the 512gb 960 Pro is 400TB/wc. Sequential R/W of the 960 Pro is 3500MB/s read and 2100MB/s write The 970 series is more refined. Both use the updated Phoenix controller whereas the 960 series uses the Polaris controller. Both the 960 Pro and 970 EVO have a 5 year warranty. The older 960 EVO only has a 3 year warranty. The answer to this question between the 960 Pro and 970 Evo is simple........... get whichever is cheaper.
