Answer:	Yes, the software will give you an option for a destination for the captured videos. Just make sure that the drive is hooked up when you run the software and select that drive as a destination. Depending on the speed of the connection (USB/FireWire/Thunderbolt), it may take from a little to a lot longer than to do it to your local HD. If that turns out to be very slow, and you want to do a lot of converting at one time, another option is just to save one video to your Mac's drive, and then move it to the external HD while you're converting the next movie.
Question:	What format is the converted file in? Can you change this to other formats (.AVI, .DVIX, ect
Answer:	If you use VirtualDub you can output your video in different formats. I output to raw AVI so I can cut my video into smaller segments in Adobe Premiere without sacrificing quality. VHS quality is already so poor, I don't want to lose any of it by re-encoding mp4/h264 files.

Answer:	Absolutely does NOT WORK on the new Thunderbolt 3 ports (USB-C). The feed appears jittery, despite looking fine on the TV. I have tried two different Elgato devices, 3 different USB 3.0 to USB-C adapters (including Apple) and a brand new MacBook Air specifically for this project. I have trouble shot every aspect and video is distorted and jumpy, probably due to data transfer feeds from a USB 2.0 device coming into Thunderbolt ports.

Question:	do you need a dummy battery for your DSLR camera
Answer:	This does need power. The way I am using it, the capture device receives HDMI from the camera and is plugged into a USB port on my computer. The computer provides the needed power through the USB port. If you have a different arrangement that cannot provide power through the USB port, you will have to provide power externally.
Question:	Can this be used to capture my PC desktop as a source? Or it has to be camera video capture
Answer:	It can capture any HDMI input, so I guess if you got a HDMI splitter you could capture your desktop. I can’t recommend that though since any software used to record the capture card’s input still takes up computer resources, so you might as well just screen record.

Answer:	From what I can tell, yes, although I cannot recommend it unless you are familiar with OBS (Open Broadcaster Software). This program lets you turn the capture card input into a virtual webcam, which you can then select in zoom.

Answer:	In theory, you should be able to display any device that outputs through HDMI to Any pc that allows a USB webcam.

What you could do how ever. Get a HDMI converter. Plug the VHS yellow, red, and white cables to the converter. An hdmi out the other end of the converter. Plug the HDMI Into THIS hdmi to USB. You would then be able to record through your laptop. Through the free Camera application. A lot of connectors but it should get the job done.

Answer:	Yes, the one I got certainly did. It also worked fine on Linux.However, I did not try the CD at all. I just plugged it in and let Windows 10 install drivers and I used OBS Studio (open source freeware) to capture the video.

Set the resolution and the FPS

1. Custom Resolution: First set Resolution/FPS Type to custom mode. As shown by the white arrow in Figure 2-1.

2. Set Resolution: Select the appropriate resolution at the up and down arrows on the far right of this column. As shown by the yellow arrow in Figure 2-1.

3. Set FPS: Select the appropriate frame rate at the up and down arrows on the far right of this column. As shown by the red arrow in Figure 2-1.

Set the audio and micro

1. Select the "Output Desktop Audio" item at the up and down arrows on the far right of the "Audio Output Mode" column.As shown by the yellow arrow in Figure 3-1.

Question:	The video is great, but the audio from the game console is delayed a bit, what do i do
Answer:	Depends on WHERE the audio is delayed - is it delayed in the software you're using to capture with, or is it delayed via the HDMI loopout going to your TV/monitor? Also, is it a consistent delay (something like always 10ms of delay throughout the entire recording/stream), or gradual delay (the longer you're recording/streaming, the more out of sync the audio becomes over time)? If it's in the software you're using, AND it's a consistent delay, some possible solutions are: 1) When adding the capture device as a source in the software, make sure the video AND audio are added as ONE source, not separate sources. In OBS, the "Properties" of the capture device will have a checkbox at the bottom of the window for including audio, and it's usually unchecked by default, leading people to think there's no audio, so then they go and add a separate Audio source (again choosing the capture device as a source) and for whatever reason, this can cause sync issues. 2) Whether you added them as one source or separate sources, you can go into the Audio Properties for the capture device and set your own positive or negative delay on the audio - so if you have a consistent 10ms delay or something, you can get that back into sync by setting your own -10ms delay for that audio. Now for another possibility - the audio delay is in the software, AND, it's a GRADUAL delay vs constant delay: This is usually indicative of an audio sample rate issue. Somewhere in your GENERAL settings for the software, you'll likely have an option to set the recording/streaming audio sample rate to something like "16 bit 441000hz" or "16 bit 48000hz," etc - whatever option you choose, you need to make sure ALL your sources that are bringing in audio match this sample rate. This isn't something to be set in your software however, it's in the device properties directly via whatever OS your computer has. I don't know the process for Mac, but for Windows 10, you'll want to go down to the speaker/volume icon in the bottom corner, right click and bring up the Sound Settings, under "Input Devices" look for the capture device and hopefully a link that says "Device Properties," click that, then look to the right for "Additional Device Properties," and click that. Now go to the "Advanced" tab in the window that pops up, this is where you set your audio sample rate. Again, it needs to match whatever you've set your software to record/stream at. You may not have any option to change it at all (it could be greyed out), meaning the capture device only has that one sample rate and you instead need to change your software to match it, if possible. If you can't make them match, then unfortunately you're out of luck. There may be software or hardware you can utilize as an in-between sample rate converter but I've not looked into that. You could also look into alternate recording/streaming software that may have more sample rate options compared to what you're using now. As a final point, if you're also using a separate microphone as part of your recordings/streams, the sample rate of that also needs to match everything else. Okay, finally, the last and simplest possibility - the delay (constant or gradual) is NOT in the software, but is in the HDMI loopout going to your TV/monitor: This to me just sounds like a hardware issue (i.e. you got a bad unit and may need to return it).
