Answer:	I only converted my personal vhs tapes to dvd but I think that you will be able to copy old movies as well.

Answer:	Yes, you first capture them on your hard drive as individual captures. Then when you use the "burn to DVD option" it will allow you to pick as many captured "mpeg" files as will fit on a standard DVD. You can also use a double layer DVD to get more onto it.

Answer:	You miniDV recorder probably had a digital output possibly with a firewire connector. Don't think this product will connect to that. If you're lucky your camcorder also had a standard video/audio cable output as well, which will work but not as high quality as the direct digital output. There are firewire adapters out there, if need be.

Answer:	To answer your first question: Yes you have to play the movie as it converts otherwise if you fast forward it it might record you fast forwarding it. Unfortunately there's no work around on that. To answer your second question, no it doesn't convert in high speed unless you have a Solid State Drive and have 16 GB RAM or more then it might, but that's just an educated guess. Otherwise it depends on the length of the tape. The longest I had to record was 2 hours and 28 minutes. The shortest I had to record was 5 minutes. Also it depends on well taken care of and clean the tape is, I noticed the first time I did a tape it kept destabilizing after cleaning the tape it stabilized perfectly the conversion was very smooth.

Answer:	Yes, the one I got certainly did. It also worked fine on Linux.However, I did not try the CD at all. I just plugged it in and let Windows 10 install drivers and I used OBS Studio (open source freeware) to capture the video.

Answer:	Regarding the user who said it did not pass audio, I found a similar issue with a similar Empia USB capture device. Here's the thing: You have to dig into the *video* input capture settings, where you'll find a Mute checkbox, which defaults to enabled. You'll want to uncheck that, then audio capture will work. Audio capture via PulseAudio may also be crackly and broken, in which case, it's advised to use pavucontrol to disable PulseAudio for the capture device, and use ALSA directly.

Answer:	Yes, it has all the cables you need. It has the UBS connector and it has the three RCA cables (red,white,and yellow). It does not have a S-cable but there is a place to connect it if you want to use one for slightly better video output.

Answer:	Generally, the drive will have "DVD Recorder", "DVD Multi Recorder", or similar on the drive tray door. PAL formats are for other countries.I have ripped older movies but found newer ones have a copyright block that will prevent you from ripping them. So if you are hoping to rip Frozen to another dvd, it may not happen.I have used VHStoDVD recently on home made VHS tapes but had problems burning while I was on Windows 8. Upgrading to Win 8.1 removed whatever was blocking the program and all runs smoothly now.Hope my answer was not too confusing. Learn the program and have fun.

Answer:	on one end about 100cm for the USB cable middles is a 10 cm elgato capture thingythen short 10+cm cables on the other end for s-video and composite
Question:	Can I transfer my VHS videos thru my Mac and save them all on an external hard drive to save space on my Mac
Answer:	Yes, the software will give you an option for a destination for the captured videos. Just make sure that the drive is hooked up when you run the software and select that drive as a destination. Depending on the speed of the connection (USB/FireWire/Thunderbolt), it may take from a little to a lot longer than to do it to your local HD. If that turns out to be very slow, and you want to do a lot of converting at one time, another option is just to save one video to your Mac's drive, and then move it to the external HD while you're converting the next movie.
Question:	What format is the converted file in? Can you change this to other formats (.AVI, .DVIX, ect
Answer:	If you use VirtualDub you can output your video in different formats. I output to raw AVI so I can cut my video into smaller segments in Adobe Premiere without sacrificing quality. VHS quality is already so poor, I don't want to lose any of it by re-encoding mp4/h264 files.
Question:	I can see the input plugs, but what is the output plug? USB, Apple lightning
Answer:	Absolutely does NOT WORK on the new Thunderbolt 3 ports (USB-C). The feed appears jittery, despite looking fine on the TV. I have tried two different Elgato devices, 3 different USB 3.0 to USB-C adapters (including Apple) and a brand new MacBook Air specifically for this project. I have trouble shot every aspect and video is distorted and jumpy, probably due to data transfer feeds from a USB 2.0 device coming into Thunderbolt ports.

Answer:	It depends. It isn’t designed to plug into all holes on the human body.

Answer:	I don't know. Only used it with OSX 10.7.5

Answer:	I just bought this yesterday. I am running the latest OS X Yosemite 10.11.2 and it works *but only if you plug in the device to the USB port AFTER launching the application*. If the device is already plugged in then it does not record any sound.

Answer:	The mixed answers here might be because of the following behavior: You have to plug the device into the usb port *AFTER* launching the application. If the device is already plugged in then it does not record any sound. However if you plug in the device after the app is running and asking you to plug it in it does record sound and works just fine. I am running OS X Yosemite 10.11.2.
