Question:	can you plug this straight into a cable line coming into your house
Answer:	Only if it is attached to an antenna. If it is a line with "cable" service this is the wrong tuner card for you. You need one that has a tuner for "cable" channels, not just ATSC over the air channels. Hauppauge has cards with both. The part number usually has an "H" in them and you'll see two F-connectors on the card, one for an antenna for ATSC over the air channels, one for cable channels. An old card, that had this was WINTV-HVR1600. It is so old it is ISA, not PCI.

Answer:	an antenna, big enough to receive your local stations (depending on your distance from their transmission point, obstacles in the way, and height that you can mount antenna (22 -24 feet is preferred)), probably will need in line amplifier depending on the distance between your antenna and your computer (if greater than 25-50 feet), and you should already have Windows Media Center installed. When you upgrade to Windows 10, you can use the Hauppauge WinTV8 software instead of WMC.

When I could no longer run Windows Media Center, I could only find one product that offered the same functionality as WMC, specifically the ability to have a movies only guide. And that product is J River Media Center. It is as good as or better than WMC, although it take more effort to configure it for some functionality. And it records into the TS format, which can be played on practically any media play, such as Roku, Fire TV, Shield, or any of the inexpensive Android boxes. It's not free, but it's not really that expensive.

Answer:	Electronic Program Guide data is transmitted OTA embedded in the ATSC signal- whereas it seems that most new TVs dont decode this data- this box does decode this data. You can click OK on a broadcast and it will "book" it for recording It uses this data to set the recording scheduleYou can also program recordings the old fashioned "manual" way, so look up you broadcast schedule on the internet and go in and program the channels and times you want it to record. It is not a grid style guide- the EPG shows you the upcoming broadcasts on the current channel. To see the guide for another channel- the box actually changes to that channel to show you that channels data.
Question:	Apologies if this has already been asked: can I watch one channel while recording another with this product? Could I watch "Scandal" on ch 4-1 while recording "Elementary" on ch. 7-1, for example? Otherwise, sounds like a good option for "cord-cutting" with my LCD HDTV
Answer:	Yes, you can watch one channel and record another as long as you connect this product to an HDTV and set the modulation mode under the channel search menu to Loop Through.Although, you cannot watch a PREVIOUSLY recorded show while recording another channel.
Question:	how much memory does it come with to record? and is the HD good like with cable
Answer:	It doesnt come with any onboard memory for recording. You have to supply the memory with a a USB drive. The HD quality is excellent as long as it receives a good signal.For the best results you will want a thumb drive that has fast write speeds for smooth & seamless recording qaulity.Also, you need roughly 6 to 8 gigabytes of storage space per hour of recording, it varies greatly depending on the quality.It is recommended that you use a at the least a 16 gigabyte thumb drive for your own convenience.
Question:	I'm looking for an external HDTV tuner to output live over-the-air TV to a projector. Would this device work for that scenario
Answer:	OK , this is also what I want to do.Do I have to connect it on a HDMI port on the projector or can I connect to the HDMI port on the receiver?

Answer:	If you are talking about standard TV shows,yes. If they are broadcast Yes! I don't know about streaming. It has two tuners that only pickup broadcast stations!
Question:	Does it work with just an antenna and no cable or satalite
Answer:	much cheaper options available for this, look at tv tuner cards that do not require cablecards, easily available for a quarter of the price
Question:	Has anyone tried to use this to copy to a nas then watch that recorded program off the nas to another computer/tv in real time
Answer:	Anything that is marked copy once cannot be viewed on another computer once it's recorded. I don't use a NAS, I have WHS 2011 and use the server add-on that's created when you installed the WHS client on your PC with Windows Vista, 7 or 8 along if Media Center is activated.
Question:	Have a PC Windows 7, not w/ Media Cntr. The description 1st says this, "is a dual tuner CableCARD receiver for Your Windows 7 PC. So, will it work
Answer:	You can get this to work without media center. But I where honest media center is just the flat wown easiest way to interact with it.
