Actually, whenever you press the click surface down (and note the entire touch surface is actually one big clickable button, not the design I'd have gone with, but whatever), it will always default to a left click if you are touching the left side of the touchpad, even if you are touching the right side with another finger (also, unlike a normal laptop touchpad, a 2 finger tap will not do a right-click). Note this also means you cannot do a right-click while resting your other fingers on the upper portion of the mouse like you could with a traditional mouse.

Answer:	I can't speak to this specific mouse's battery life. But, I have one of these which I have not shut down on a daily basis. The M325C I have does not seem to drain the battery as badly as other models I have owned. I keep it powered with a Duracell copper AA. Am still using the same battery as the day it was bought, about 3-4 months ago even after seldom turning the mouse off.
