The single ear only has one speaker for one ear, which leaves the other ear free to listen to noises within your environment. The double ear is better for a call center situation where you need to provide your full attention to the caller. The single ear is better for a private office situation where you may want to be hands-free in your call but also be able and available to listen out for the sounds in your environment at the same time, such as for a knock on the door.
