They are all right but not as absorbent as I'm used to with muslin dish towels and am hoping that repeated washings will make them more absorbent and have no idea why I even think that might happen. They are okay and my laziness means I will use them till they die. Sorry I couldn't be more help. I should have just gone to Williams Sonoma website and paid too much for towels I know work.

Cross-stitch might work good unless you use a backing like Pelon to stabilize the stitches of crewel.
