12 best rear cameras
Rear cameras, also known as vehicle backup cameras or rearview cameras, are an essential component of modern automotive technology. They are designed to provide drivers with improved visibility when reversing their vehicles, making parking and maneuvering in tight spaces safer and more convenient. Here's what you should know about rear cameras:
Purpose: Rear cameras are primarily used to assist drivers while reversing their vehicles. They offer a clear view of the area behind the vehicle, helping drivers avoid obstacles, pedestrians, and other vehicles that may be in their blind spots.
Safety: Rear cameras enhance safety by reducing the risk of accidents while reversing. They can prevent collisions with objects or people that might be out of the driver's line of sight. This is especially important in larger vehicles like trucks and SUVs.
Components: A typical rear camera system consists of a small camera mounted on the rear of the vehicle, a display screen (usually integrated into the dashboard), and wiring to connect the camera to the display.
Display Options: The display screen can vary in size and location. Some vehicles have integrated touchscreen displays, while others use rearview mirrors with built-in screens. Some aftermarket options allow for wireless connections to smartphone displays.
Guidelines: Many rear cameras also feature guidelines on the display, helping drivers gauge distances and align the vehicle accurately. Some systems even provide dynamic guidelines that move with the steering wheel to show the vehicle's projected path.
Night Vision: Some advanced rear cameras are equipped with infrared (IR) LEDs to provide night vision capability. This allows for clear visibility in low-light or nighttime conditions.
Sensor Integration: Some vehicles combine rear cameras with other sensors like ultrasonic parking sensors. These sensors provide additional information about the proximity of objects around the vehicle, further aiding in parking and maneuvering.
Regulations: In many countries, regulations have been enacted to mandate the inclusion of rear cameras in new vehicles, especially in the United States. These regulations are aimed at improving safety and reducing accidents, particularly those involving children and pedestrians.
Aftermarket Options: If your vehicle doesn't come equipped with a rear camera, you can often install an aftermarket system. These systems vary in terms of features and price, allowing you to choose one that suits your needs and budget.
Maintenance: Like any other electronic component, rear cameras may require maintenance or replacement if they become damaged or malfunction. Regular cleaning of the camera lens is essential to ensure a clear view.
Rear cameras have become an integral part of modern vehicles, enhancing driver safety and convenience when backing up. They are a valuable tool for preventing accidents and making parking in tight spaces easier and more stress-free.

User questions & answers
Question: | Wondering about the working distance. Will this work behind my travel trailer a distance of 22 feet from behind my tow vehicle |
Answer: | Mine works great behind my 28 foot Terry Trailer. |
Question: | Will it drain the battery if connected to a constant 12v supply |
Answer: | Yes. If the unit is on and the vehicle is off the car battery will discharge and will need a jump to start. There are two ways to avoid this. One is to plug the unit into a power accessory outlet that does not supply electrical power when the ignition is turned off. Another option is to wire the unit into a fuse box cavity or hot wire somewhere in the dash that does not supply power when the ignition is off. Of course you could manually turn the device on when you start the vehicle and turn it off or unplug it from a power outlet each time you turn off the ignition. I preferred to tap into the dash fuse box using an inexpensive adapter that I purchased from an auto supply store. In doing so the unit is protected by a fuse and it turns on and off automatically with the ignition switch. |
Question: | What is the view angle |
Answer: | According to a website which reviewed 2014 models, the viewing angle for this product is 110 degrees. http://rear-view-cameras-review.toptenreviews.com/yada-digital-wireless-backup-camera-review.html |
Question: | I want to put this on a motorhome but I can't see what the camera looks like. Can anybody tell me where I can find a picture the camera |
Answer: | Thanks for asking! I was about to buy this, and you question reminded me that I did not know what the camera looks like! I found a picture of it on page 2 of the User Manual. You can find the user manual on the main Amazon Product page, in the Product Details section, under the Technical Specification heading. |

Answer: | Yes it will. All you need is 12 volt from the running lights. Which all prewired trailers have. |
Question: | Will this work with the prewired Voyager Wisight |
Answer: | If you are talking about Voyager WiSight Prewired Camera mount, then I believe Haloview sells an adapter plate, the "Haloview VF01 Backup Camera Bracket Adapter Compatible with Voyager/Furrion Pre-wired RVs" . You will have to connect the wires yourself, as it doesn't appear Haloview makes a Voyager adapter. The Voyager prewire is nothing more that a mounting box prewired to the running lights. |
Question: | Could i use the 5.0 out of 5 stars 1reviews haloview tx-b2 2.4g signal booste with this versus going with the rd7? cleaner look. thanks |

Question: | Will the reception work on a 32 foot trailer towed with a pickup truck or is the rd7 w repeater necessary? trying to avoid the extra wires. thanks |
Answer: | I suggest you use RD7-MAX, the total length of the vehicle is too long, the signal of RD7-MAX is more stable. https://www.amazon.com/Haloview-Wireless-Range-Dominator-System/dp/B08BNWZVXL |

The HCE-RCAM-WRA lets you easily add an Alpine rear-view camera to your 2007-2018 Jeep Wrangler. It is compatible with Alpine in-dash screen systems, the factory Jeep screen or other aftermarket screens. If used with the factory screen, you can add the Alpine SGS-CH01 Camera Interface (sold separately) with Active Guide Lines, without factory screen re-programming. With tons of wheel choices for the Wrangler, you need a versatile camera that works with any of them. The HCE-RCAM-WRA consists of the HCE-C1100 Rear-View Camera and bracket that is mounted between the spare tire and the Wrangler’s 5x5 wheel pattern. The upper portion of the bracket can be positioned to the left or right of the wheel’s spokes, ensuring that the attached camera has a clear line of sight behind the vehicle and is not blocked by the wheel. Backing out of garages or riding through shady trails can be tough on a back-up camera. Standard cameras have difficulty managing changes in light, causing images to wash out and making it difficult to see what’s behind you at times. The HCE-RCAM-WRA has High Dynamic Range (HDR) technology for improved image quality. HDR technology can manage a wider range of luminance through the camera’s sensor as compared to standard cameras. Bright and dark areas are captured and adjusted for even exposure and white balance, preventing the image from being washed-out or too dark as you drive between sunlight and low-light conditions.
- Compatible with the 2007-2008 Jeep Wrangler.
- Compatible with Alpine in-dash screen systems.

Product features
Easy, Add-On Camera System
The HCE-RCAM-WRA is a Spare Tire Rear-View Camera System for the 2007 - 2008 Jeep Wrangler that includes the HCE-C1100 HDR Rear-View Camera, mounting bracket, and vehicle-specific wires.
With Alpine's High Dynamic Range (HDR) technology, the HCE-RCAM-WRA gives you a wider range of light for improved image quality.
Easily Add a Rear-View Camera
Whether you're driving your Jeep Wrangler in a busy city or off-road on the trails, a rear-view camera can help navigate around obstacles - but how do you add a rear-view camera when the spare tire occupies so much space behind your Jeep? The HCE-RCAM-WRA is a Spare Tire Rear-View Camera System designed to mount behind your spare tire and poke through the spokes of your tire for rear visibility. The camera image is displayed on your Alpine aftermarket or factory Jeep screen.
HDR Technology
When backing out of a garage or riding through shady trails, your camera system experiences various levels of light that can lead your camera image to wash out. With Alpine's High Dynamic Range (HDR) technology, the camera can mange a wider range of luminance so both bright and dark areas are captured and adjusted for even exposure and white balance for clear imaging. The weather-resistance (IP67) camera housing will ensure a reliable image no matter the driving condition.
Versatile Installation
Take out the guesswork for installation. The HCE-RCAM-WRA uses the 2007 - 2018 Jeep Wrangler's bolt pattern to mount behind the spare tire and poke through the 5x5 wheel pattern. The upper portion of the bracket hosts the rear-view camera and can be positioned to the left or right of the wheel's spokes, so you have a clear view of what's behind your vehicle.
System Compatibility
See your drive on your Alpine aftermarket or factory Jeep screen. The HCE-RCAM-WRA works with any Alpine aftermarket dash system with a composite (RCA) camera input. When using the HCE-RCAM-WRA with your factory Jeep screen, add the SGS-CH01 Camera Interface (sold separately) with active guide lines to integrate the camera with select Jeep Wrangler factory dash systems. If you want to add a front camera for more visibility the SGS-CH01 is compatible with Alpines KCX-C2600B Universal Camera Switcher (sold separately) that can add a front camera (sold separately) to your dash system.
