12 best cable speaker selectors
A cable speaker selector is a device used in audio systems, including car audio and home audio setups, to manage multiple speakers and direct audio signals to specific speakers or zones. Here's what you need to know about cable speaker selectors and their relevance to Coaxial Speakers, Car Audio, Car Electronics, and Electronics:
Speaker Selection: Cable speaker selectors allow users to choose which speakers receive audio signals from an amplifier or audio source. This is particularly useful in scenarios where you have multiple speakers in different rooms or zones and want to control which speakers are active.
Zone Control: In home audio systems, cable speaker selectors enable zone-based audio control. This means you can play music in one room while muting or playing different audio in another room. This flexibility is often used in multi-room audio setups.
Coaxial Speakers: Cable speaker selectors are compatible with various types of speakers, including coaxial speakers. Coaxial speakers combine a woofer and a tweeter in a single unit, making them a popular choice for car audio and home audio applications.
Car Audio: In the context of car audio, speaker selectors are less common compared to home audio systems. However, they can still be used in more complex car audio setups where users want to control different speaker configurations within the vehicle.
Multiple Audio Sources: Some speaker selectors allow you to switch between multiple audio sources, such as different amplifiers or audio inputs. This is useful if you have various audio devices connected to your speaker system.
Impedance Matching: To prevent damage to the amplifier and ensure the correct distribution of power, many cable speaker selectors come with impedance matching features. This ensures that the impedance of the speakers matches the amplifier's requirements.
Volume Control: Some speaker selectors have volume control for each zone or speaker, allowing you to adjust the volume independently in different areas of your home or car.
Protection Circuitry: Quality speaker selectors may include protection circuitry to safeguard against overload and short-circuiting, ensuring the longevity of your speakers and amplifiers.
Installation: Cable speaker selectors are typically installed between the amplifier and the speakers. Proper installation is crucial to ensure that the audio signal is distributed correctly to the selected speakers.
Remote Control: Advanced models may include remote control options, allowing you to manage speaker selection and volume adjustments remotely.
In summary, cable speaker selectors are versatile devices used to control audio distribution in multi-speaker setups. They are particularly beneficial in multi-room home audio systems and can also find applications in more complex car audio configurations. When using speaker selectors, it's essential to consider factors such as impedance matching, volume control, and protection features to ensure optimal audio performance and system protection.

Question: | I am installing in-wall speakers in multiple rooms. My question is what is the best cheapest in-wall volume controller that would work with this speaker selector |
Answer: | There is no difference in for the install if you mount speakers in the wall or ceiling. |
Question: | Several questions, How do you hook it to your stereo, I am hard of hearing so I hooked 3speakers to my stereo system, this is hooked to my tv when I turn it up some times it turns off by it self I do not understand that I would like more speakers all the 5 star reviews makes this product sound real good. the receiver |
Answer: | I think so. They mount with a screw and clamp. The screw is accessible behind the removable front grill. The speaker comes with a template so you know what size to cut out in the wall or ceiling. After you insert the speaker into the recess, as you turn the screw, it tightens the clamp onto drywall, securing it in place. Although it is designed for drywall, I think it will work on anything with approximately the same thickness (~3/4 inch thick). |
Question: | How Do You Hook A PSS6 Speaker Selector To A Pyle PCAU46A |
Answer: | I would recommend a 5.1 home audio receiver. |
Question: | can i play all 6 speakers at the same time |
Answer: | The pyle pta44bt would be a good amp for the speakers. |

User questions & answers
Question: | I want to use this on two sets of speakers, one set for front height & second set for side surrounds and switch between the two. Is it possible |
Answer: | I have speakers throughout my house. The Pyle Six-zone box allows me to have music in most every room. Hook each speaker you have to the Pyle and hook the Pyle to your receiver, speaker A or B. I have mine on B. Connect your receiver audio to your TV audio. There is a separate button on the Pyle that you should always keep positioned to on (button in). That is the easiest I can make it for you. This box works perfect for me and has never shut off. Good luck to you. |
Question: | Does this switch allow me to control sets of speakers independently |
Answer: | I am running an older Technics amp 2x100 6 pairs of speakers at times so I would say yes. Just remember you are putting this amp to a lot of work if you're running 6 pairs of speakers so watch the temps on the amp. |
Question: | One person indicated what they believed the protection button was. Does anybody know? Pyle technical support apparently doesn't exist |
Answer: | Maybe. The more speakers that you connect the lower their effective impedance as seen by the amplifier. And the lower the effective impedance the higher the current that the amplifier must generate in order to drive the speakers to a specific listening level without distortion. Most speakers, particularly the less costly ones, have a nominal 8 ohm impedance. So if you are driving one set of such speakers the amplifier will be seeing an 8 ohm load. But if your amplifier is driving 2 sets of such speakers the amplifier will be seeing 1/(1/8 + 1/8) = a 4 ohm load; if your amplifier is driving 3 sets of such speakers the amplifier will be seeing a 1/(1/8 + 1/8 + 1/8) = 2.7 ohm load, etc. With 6 speakers your amplifier will be seeing a 1.3 ohm load. And this would be a nominal and typically maximum load; in practice the load fluctuates depending on frequency and is effectively lower for short periods of time. Some amplifiers are designed to drive such low loads but many are not. If you try to do that with such a low current amplifier for a long period of time you will burn up the amplifier. That is why speaker selectors like this one have a protection button which basically adds a resistance in series with the speakers in order to increase the impedance seen by the amplifier. This will reduce the overall efficiency and you will notice that you have to increase the volume to get the same amount of sound as with the protection button off.So, if your amplifier has a sufficient current capability to drive those 6 speakers to your desired listening levels, great. If it doesn't, and if the listening level is too low for your tastes with the protection button on, you will need to either settle for lower volume or get a more powerful amplifier. |
Question: | How do I hook this up to my 5.1 receiver |
Answer: | The sound is great there is no distortion. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this connect my speakers and also a headset (with mic) to my PC? I want to be able to switch between speakers for music and talking on my headset |
Answer: | You can control up to 4 sets of speakers independently or play all at the same time! I have switch A for patio speakers, switch B for inside house, sometimes I play A or B or A+B |
Question: | Is there any way to fix the mic echo |
Answer: | In modern amplifiers the protection button is actually used to simulate a safe ohm load to the amplifier, not mask the lack of a load. When you connect multiple speakers of certain ohm ratings in series or parallel, it alters the ohm load presented to the amplifier. The switch allows you to attach multiple speaker sets while presenting and "buffering" a consistent/safe ohm load instead of the actual load. 2 x 8 ohm speakers in parallel on the same channel would show up as 4 ohm (divide ohm rating of speaker by number of speakers), which could cause your amplifier to fail (it needs to work harder) if not designed to drive speakers with that ohm rating. If you are using more than 2 pair of 8 ohm speakers simultaneously you would turn on the protection mode to present an ohm load of ~4 ohm instead. Most protection solutions present a 4.5 ohm load in this scenario. Understand that ohm loads are AC and thus are constantly fluctuating during playback. Speaker ohm levels typically will "change" @ different volume levels etc. Low impedance allows for a more efficient electric signal. Typically speakers are rated 4, 6 or 8 ohms. Lower end receivers can sometime have issues driving low impedance 4 or 2 ohm speakers. |
Question: | Will this output both mic and channel a to speaker (center)? trying to connect my mic with ps4 party and combine the 2 to output |
Answer: | Hello Dan,This device is for other areas of a home where you have additional speakers and is not made to be used with the surround sound system. It can be used with "Stereo Receivers" or with 7.1 A/V Receivers where your only using the 5.1 portion of the receiver. What that means is if you have a surround sound system in your home, then all the speaker outputs of the receiver are dedicated to the surround sound and at that point there are no more speaker terminal outputs to be used. However, if your receiver is a 7.1 A/V receiver and your only using it as a 5.1 Surrond Sound System, then you will have 2 additional speaker outputs that aren't being used.At that point you can attach those terminals (via 2 speaker wires a left & a right) to the Pyle 4 Channel Speaker Selector. Now connect the other rooms to the outputs on the Pyle Speaker Selector. ***Make sure you have the correct speakers paired to each individual room when you connect these wires. You can easily determine this by taking a battery from your remote control and placing the ends of the speaker wires to the battery. Positive end of the wire + to the positive end of the battery and the negative end off the same wire to the negative end of the battery, You can hold the negative wire tight to the battery with your thumb while you release and then retouch and release and retouch the positive end a few times. you should hear a popping sound coming out of the speaker. This will let you know which wire goes to which speaker in which room or area. I usually use a "Sharpie" Marker and label the wire "Living Rm" or "Dining Rm" or what ever the room is that the wire goes to. *****Now, and this is most important or you will "FRY" your Pyle unit, make sure the negative wire that is connected to the Pyle output is the same negetive wire that is connected to the speaker terminal in the room where that wire goes and the positive does the same. IF YOU CROSS THE WIRES AND PUT THE NEGATIVE WIRE IN THE POSITIVE TERMINAL, YOU MOST LIKELY WILL GET BAD RECEPTION TO THAT SPEAKER OR FRY (DAMAGE) THE PYLE UNIT AND MAYBE EVEN YOUR RECEIVER. ALSO, MAKE SURE NO BRAIDS OFF OF THE SPEAKER WIRES TOUCH THE CHASSIS OF THE RECEIVER OR EACH OTHER. THIS WILL SHORT THE UNIT.Finally, you may have to go into the setting of your A/V Receiver and select the "Speaker Settings" and scroll to where the "Surround Back" or "Zone 2" Speaker set up is and select "NO". This will deactivate the use of those speakers to be used in the room where the Surround Sound is and will allow them to be used for "Stereo Music" to other rooms. In about 90-100% of all A/V Recievers have to use "Analog" or "RCA Cables" from the device you want to hear the music or sound from in the rooms that the Pyle is hooked up to. FM Tuner (or radio stations), Pandora and Internet Radio Stations are already incorporated in the receiver and will play with no problem. Now just select "Zone 2" on the Receiver and press the "Input" selection you want to hear in those other rooms. Raise the Zone 2 Volume Level for those rooms and you should hear music or audio. Please note that some receivers have a time period of 5-6 seconds for you to do these steps, so when making your audio selection and volume level, know where your audio selection button is that you want before performing these steps or your Receiver timer will time out and you will have to permorm them again. It can be frustrating at first for a novice. It was for me. Sometimes still is. LOLA couple of things to know. I would only use this device if I had "Individual Volume Controllers" in each of the rooms or areas where I want Music or Sound. If you don't, then the "volume level" will be the same in all those areas. Volume Controls allow you to do what they say, they can "Control" the volumes level. If the Music or Sound is too High in one room, it might be too Low in an other room. Volume Controls correct that.If you don't have individual Volume Controls in the rooms where your speakers are, then you want to purchase the Pyle Home PSPVC4 4-Channel High Power Stereo Speaker Selector with volume Control. http://www.amazon.com/Pyle-PSPVC4-4-Channel-Speaker-Selector/dp/B0013CH7UK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1376744129&sr=8-1&keywords=Pyle+Speaker+Selector+with+Volume+Controls If you have any issues getting the sound to pass through Zone 2 of your Receiver, contact the units manufacturer and ask for tech support.I hope this helps.Ken Nichols, PresidentSIGHTS & SOUNDS OF SOUTH FLORIDA, INC.3801 Environ Blvd.Fort Lauderdale, FL 33319305-788-1895 |
Question: | Could this be used in reverse I/O configuration? I'd prefer the button in the top to switch between headset and speakers |
Answer: | Really, as long as you are using 8 ohm speakers the volume control shouldn't matter all that much. As long as you are happy with the quality. I got mine from Radio Shack. I've also seen some at Home Depot. I know Amazon carries some also. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can you tell me what the warranty is on this product |
Answer: | This is just a simple switch - there are no delay elements in it. If you are experiencing echo, reverb, or feedback, the problem must be somewhere else in your setup. |
Question: | Can I connect this to my receiver via bluetooth |
Answer: | This won’t do what you’re trying to accomplish. This is a brilliant, yet simple, A/B switch. I use A for my PC audio out and B for my cell audio out to one set of headphones. |
Question: | what is the maximum continuous amplifier power for which this product is compatible? The SSVC6 says 300W, but I can't find a spec for this one. THXS |
Answer: | Short answer: Yes. Longer answer: You had me curious as to the answer, so I just hooked mine up the way you describe. I connected one PC going INTO the front headphones-out port, and another PC going INTO the speaker-out in the rear. Then I hooked up my speakers to INPUT B, and my headphones to INPUT A. That turned the A/B switch into an output selector and the front switch into an input selector. Everything worked fine, but for the completeness of the answer, I have to point out that the first time I connected things this way I got a 60Hz hum in my speakers, but disconnecting and reconnecting fixed that problem. I tested the speaker, volume, mic, and mute functionality, and they all worked well. Again, for the completeness of this answer, if I connect my Dell G7 laptop to a Type-C docking station (handling the audio, too), and the docking station connects to the Nobsound, and my headphones (with mic) are plugged into the Nobsound's headphones-out, then the laptop doesn't detect my headphones' mic. But that doesn't really bear on the answer you are looking for ( it's probably just a config I haven't sussed out yet); it's just something to be aware of. |
Question: | What do I need to look for in a receiver to pair with this volume control selectors |
Answer: | While you can connect up to four pairs of speakers, this device will not work as a surround sound device like having front, rear, center channels like a Dolby or DTS system. This only splits a stereo signal to multiple pairs of the same exact stereo signal.Hopefully this helps. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Why does it say connector type: hdmi |
Answer: | I don't think so if I understand your question. This is a passive system (no power supply) with wired input/output. I have bluetooth connected to one of my component amp inputs, and my amp is wired to this distribution system. Hope this helps. |
Question: | There are no hook up instructions in the packaging or on Amazon. Can you provide instructions on how to hook up to a stereo receiver |
Answer: | 300 is about right. Any larger and the spkr wires won't fit. 16 gauge max |
Question: | Can it be mounted on a wall |
Answer: | We have a 100W amp connected to our speaker selector (actually the 8 channel one) and we can drive both the floorstanding speakers in the main room and all 7 rooms with in-ceiling speakers around the house to any volume we like with excellent fidelity. IF you already have a receiver and you're thinking about a new one to use with the selector, you can always use the old ton and connect it to the second source, and now you have 2 possible kinds of music to switch around the house. WE have the Amp, CD, and IPad on source A, with an old receiver for AM/FM on source B, so we can have one program playing in some rooms, and a second in the other rooms. |
Question: | Will this work with two amps to switch between one set of speakers |
Answer: | Hello. Yes, it can. MC1024 (this version) is MIX & AUX integrated version, which means your mic cable and aux cable of your headset is the same cable. If yours are separated, please search MC1023. |

User questions & answers
Question: | My amplifier is capable of one pair of 4 ohms load. Can I use this to connect 2 pairs of speakers, each pair are 4 ohms load |
Answer: | No |
Question: | watts per channel handling.—Does this mean the input can only be 100 watts or that her output can be 100 watts per channel from 400 watt source |
Answer: | It means that the maximum input can be 100 watts per channel. Now if you have a 400 watt amplifier, it can still work as long as you don't crank it up past 100 watts output. |
Question: | I have a receiver Denon E400 that has 175W per channel, worked well with these speaker selector |
Answer: | What matters is the impedance. Most Amps are 8 ohm as are speakers. When you hook multiple speakers in parallel the impedance goes down. The selector ensures that the impedance is at least 4 ohms even when as many as eight speakers are hooked in parallel (and would otherwise present 1 ohm of impedance). On my Yamaha receiver there is a switch that allows for a 4 ohm load and that is the key. You can probably run a 4 ohm load from an 8 ohm driver, it just means that more energy is dissipated in the amp than in the speakers but hopefully not so much as to do damage |
Question: | Can I control volumes on two different speakers independently with this device |
Answer: | No, there's no volumes controller on this device. You need a controller like ''Niles VCS100R White FG00956 100 Watt InWall Volume Control " (http://www.amazon.com/Niles-VCS100R-White-FG00956-Control/dp/B0001W1I58/ref=pd_sim_e_3) for each pair of speakers. |

User questions & answers
Question: | can you switch both pairs of speakers on at same time with either amp 1 or amp 2 iow - 1 amp into 2 pairs of speakers |
Answer: | Take the speakers lines running out of your stereo receiver plug them into the unit . Then you can split the Signal . |
Question: | What size banana plugs fit into the connectors on the back? They must be minis like 3 or 3 mm. Standard banana plugs seem to be too big |
Answer: | No holes for wall mounting. You would need to make one for it. |
Question: | Can it be used to connect a surround sound receiver without an amp. pre-out port-by way of the front speaker terminals- to a second amplifier |
Answer: | Yes, you have to wire it backwards of course - amps to speaker outputs, speakers to amp input. There are 1.8 ohm resistors in series with the amp output terminals so you will lose some volume. Also, they're only 5w so they won't take much power. I've played movies and CD at normal to loudish levels tho and they barely get warm if at all. I wouldn't turn it up to 11 tho. Finally, you MUST take great care and insure that only one amp is connected at any time. Even an amp that is turned off could be damaged by one that is on, never mind if they were both on. |
Question: | can this selector be used to select between an amplifier and a surround Receiver |
Answer: | It says warranty listed on user manual and in table of content it says Limited warranty, page 5 but page 5 is installation tips. I've read the whole thing and cant find any mention of warranty. That said, I've had it several months now and works great. |

User questions & answers
Question: | If both speakers are on, would the impedance be similar to running two in parallel? A pair of 4 ohm speakers would draw 2 ohms |
Answer: | When unscrewing the banana plug the inner hole can accommodate up to 4 mm plug . |
Question: | Can i push 300rms through this |
Answer: | The short answer is no. You will be taking the high level output from your first amplifier to the low level input of your second amplifier. At the least this will result in distorted sound. At worst you will damage one or both amplifiers. |
Question: | ga wire is too big . What size banana plugs can I use and would right angle ones work best |
Answer: | Yes, for left and right. I switch my main pair of speakers between one amp for my turntable and another amp for surround which also uses that same main pair in addition to a center and a sub. In other a pair of speakers can switch between two amps. |
Question: | What is Max gauge wire |
Answer: | Must be a mistake. There is no HDMI |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this work for a onkyo Home entertainment system |
Answer: | Yes |
Question: | There seems no definitive answers here. Can you connect the speaker and amp wires via Banana Plugs |
Answer: | Don’t use banana plugs. Just twist your 12 ga wire more or just cut a couple strands off until it goes in. |
Question: | Will "banana plugs" work with the connections |
Answer: | 12 gauge and its tight |
Question: | Can the volume to speaker part two be louder than the volume to speaker pair one |
Answer: | Either amp can access the speakers, however, you must choose which speaker you desire as both speakers cannot be on at the same time. Only one or the other. The same rule applies to the amps as well. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is it 100% copper or is it copper coated aluminium (CCA |
Answer: | There IS a difference between CCA and OFC in terms of speaker wire. If you are running high wattage over a long (>50ft) run length, the cheaper grade CCA will likely become hotter and not handle it well. This 16ga wire should have the same sonic clarity as a smaller 18ga pure copper wire. You get what you pay for. |
Question: | Any updates on CL2 or CL3 rated? There is no straight forward answer on it yet |
Answer: | There is NO fire risk when using this wire for low voltage applications i.e., speaker connections. Most jurisdictions don't care about CL2/CL3 unless you are running 110VAC. This is speaker wire. Don't sweat it! |
Question: | what is the difference in watts when it comes to speakers wires |
Answer: | The answers here are variably correct and incorrect!! The resistance of the speakers (ohms) needs to match the impedance the amplifier circuit is rated to handle. Too small a wire (length is a variable) will induce a resistance that the amplifier will face, like a speaker, and this will alter the "balance" of the intended match!!!! Pushing speakers rated at 500 watts under a constant load of 250 watts will induce heat "resistance" if the line between the amp and the speaker is very small and sound quality will be compromised!!!! Up to 100 feet of lead at a constant load of 500 watts would ideally be handled using 10 gauge copper, braided wire facing from 4 ohms to 16 ohms. Bottom line: Discriminating "audiophiles" popularly tout the use of 12 gauge braided lead for almost all in-home installations ... this allows for component upgrades in the future! As said here, 16 gauge braided lead, in most installations, will produce results that are completely acceptable in matching power and impedance and results!!! |
Question: | Is it oxygen-free copper (OFC) wire |
Answer: | No need for OFC; The high-end speaker wire industry markets oxygen-free copper as having enhanced conductivity or other electrical properties that are supposedly advantageous to audio signal transmission. However, conductivity specifications for common C11000 Electrolytic-Tough-Pitch (ETP) and higher-cost C10200 Oxygen-Free (OF) coppers are identical. Much more expensive C10100, a highly refined copper with silver impurities removed and oxygen reduced to 0.0005%, has only a one percent higher conductivity—insignificant in audio applications. OFC is nevertheless sold for both audio and video signals in audio playback systems and home cinema. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will fit on slider rack shelf with 16 inches wide and 15 inches deep? thank you |
Answer: | Good question. There are two things you should know before you pull the trigger on this. Banana plugs don’t insert far enough to stay put, and since I have this box hooked up to amplified speakers I kept getting a buzz. I bought special banana plug pig tails which I ended up removing because of said problem. What did work very well for me was to remove the banana plugs and strip and solder the speaker wires then tighten the threaded part against the inserted wire in the hole on the shaft, a very tight connection and that worked great. The other issue is you can’t turn off one the speakers which was reported in one of the comments. It is annoying but for my application one set of speakers is downstairs with their own volume control so, I just adjust the volume on them when in use. Hope this helps. |
Question: | I don't understand the description. what does the a /b button at each speaker volume control mean? doesn't the speaker pairs selected play together |
Answer: | Hi, I have one of these (returning the 1st one due to poor speaker terminal , I find that it will accept a 4mm and thicker Banana Plug. Amazon's model was poor fit, but MediaBridge's plug in more securely. I have not fully connected my XtremePro yet, but I hope this helps. |
Question: | Can the speaker connectors take banana plugs as opposed to threading the wires |
Answer: | I may not be understanding your question correctly, but with this item I am using the volume control on my amp for the front speakers and the volume on this device to control the volume on the rear speakers. So yes, I can set one set of speakers at a different volume that the other. Again, if I am understanding your question correctly. |
Question: | So I can hook up 4 sets of speakers on my new Pyle unit all on one receiver without worry of damage? Looked like chart had impedence fall off to |
Answer: | Yes as far as I can tell. Aka-when I only have on speaker on and flip the switch to turn another group on, the volume drops. It’s not necessarily half the volume though. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can this selectror control volume |
Answer: | Hi, Each speaker will have its own volume control independently. Will ship right away. Please order. Thanks. |
Question: | Is this speaker switch temperature sensitive i.e. can I set one up in my attic and would possible temperature fluctuations affect its functionality |
Answer: | The unit isn't much more than switches and potentiometers, so I don't think it would be sensitive to ambient temperature unless the temperatures encountered were EXTREME. As the other reviewer noted, your primary concern with an attic set-up would be accessibility. The whole point of the selector is to control a distributed audio system, so if you couldn't get to it easily it would be a waste of effort. I am very pleased with my selector. It works as advertised in my system and has never given me any trouble. |
Question: | I have receiver ( sony strdh750 7.2 channel 4k av receiver) by what channel should i go to this speaker selector, i have center, front a, etc |
Answer: | Hi,Unless you have speaker A and B selection on your Sony. Otherwise i wouldn't suggest you taking the main channel to speaker switcher. Thx. |
Question: | Could this be used for 3 different speaker zones inside and 3 more outside with volume control for each zone? Using a Sonos amp |
Answer: | I have to disagree with this answer. I have two of these units and they do control 6 pairs of speakers, this equals 12 total, not 6. Again the Niles SSVC 6 will control 12 speakers in pairs of two for right and left channel. It does have volume control as well as on/off control for each of the 6 pairs. This unit includes labels for each zone. It does send equal signal to each speaker set to balance out the ohm load on your amp or receiver to prevent over load. |
