Answer:	Hi. First let me say this is a very sturdy bag. I have used it almost daily in my commute for sometime and it looks like new. The size is somewhat flexible because it is a hobo bag. The bottom of the bag where the center panel in sewn is close to 12". There are two outside pockets in mine that hold a water bottle or miscellaneous items. If you include that space, it is 14" across the bottom. Because it is made of flexible material you can absorb that space for items from the center of the bag if you don't put bulky items like a water bottle in both outside pockets. The zipper is a concave curve across the top of the bag. The opening is 14" across. It is unlikely that you can fit a rigid item such as a 14" laptop into this bag. I do carry my 12" MacBook and my iPad as well as files and other items in the bag. Laptops and iPads tend to move a lot in the bag because it is so flexible, so I use an extra padded sleeve. I also like the extra feature of a short strap sewn into the inside of the bag that has a clip on the end.
