6 best umc lens for canon efs
A UMC lens for Canon EF-S cameras typically refers to a lens made by Samyang (also known as Rokinon) featuring Ultra Multi-Coating (UMC) technology. These lenses are designed for Canon EF-S mount cameras, which are typically used in Canon's APS-C sensor cameras. Here is some information about UMC lenses for Canon EF-S:
UMC Coating: UMC stands for Ultra Multi-Coating, which is a special lens coating applied to the lens elements. This coating helps reduce lens flare and ghosting while improving light transmission, resulting in higher image quality and better contrast in various lighting conditions.
Compatibility: UMC lenses with Canon EF-S mounts are specifically designed for Canon APS-C sensor DSLR cameras. These lenses are not compatible with Canon full-frame (EF) cameras due to differences in the lens mount and image circle coverage.
Variety of Focal Lengths: UMC lenses for Canon EF-S come in a variety of focal lengths, from wide-angle to telephoto. They cater to different photography needs, such as portrait, landscape, macro, and more.
Manual Focus: Many UMC lenses are manual focus lenses, meaning that the photographer must manually adjust the focus ring to achieve sharp images. However, some UMC lenses may also come with autofocus capabilities, depending on the specific model.
Aperture Control: These lenses often provide manual control over the aperture settings, allowing photographers to adjust the aperture to control factors like depth of field and exposure.
Build Quality: UMC lenses are typically well-built with durable materials. They often feature metal lens barrels and robust construction to withstand regular use and outdoor conditions.
Affordability: UMC lenses are known for being relatively affordable compared to some other lens brands. They offer good value for photographers looking to expand their lens collection without breaking the bank.
Lens Mount: Canon EF-S mount lenses are designed to fit Canon DSLRs with APS-C sensors. It's important to ensure compatibility with your camera before purchasing a lens, as Canon EF-S lenses are not suitable for full-frame Canon cameras.
Image Quality: The image quality of UMC lenses can vary depending on the specific lens model. It's a good idea to read reviews and consider sample images to determine if a particular UMC lens meets your image quality expectations.
In summary, UMC lenses for Canon EF-S cameras are a range of lenses known for their affordability and features, including UMC lens coating for improved image quality. They are designed to work with Canon APS-C sensor DSLR cameras and come in various focal lengths to suit different photographic needs. When considering a UMC lens, it's essential to choose one that matches your photography style and camera model.

User questions & answers
Question: | Has anyone tried this lens with canon eos m5/m6 ?? i can't find a single review with this duo on youtube. tks |
Answer: | I do own this lens in the Sony NEX-mount, and shoot with it on a Sony a6000. FWIW, I also own several other Rokinon lenses in the Canon EF mount (e.g., 85mm f/1.4, 14mm f/2.8), and occasionally mount those on my Canon M1, the predecessor of the M5/M6. As you may know, the old M1 does not offer peak focus, so it's bit of a pain to use MF lenses like the Rokinons on that body. I can tell you that the Rok. 21mm f/1.4 is an excellent optic, one of my very favorite lenses for street shooting on the Sony a6000, and I can't see any reason it wouldn't give you equally satisfactory results on a Canon M5/M6 with peak focus. |
Question: | does this have auto focus and OIS |
Answer: | No it does not. Strictly a manual lens. |
Question: | will this work my sony a7 ii |
Answer: | The A7II uses Sony's E-mount, and there is a model of this lens with the same mount. (Be sure that's the one you get.)There is a catch. This lens is designed for APS-C sensors. I haven't personally tried it on a full frame camera, but nearly every lens designed for a crop sensor will have some really extreme vignetting. Just do a Google image search for "crop lens on a full frame body" and you'll see a few examples of what can happen. Every lens is going to be different with regards to how large its image circle is, so there may be very little vignetting, or you could end up cropping out 1/3 of the pixels because they're pure black... I honestly don't know how it will be with this lens because I don't have a full frame camera handy to test with.So again, the answer is yes, it will work with the camera, but you should be prepared to do at least a little cropping in post to remove some lost pixels. |
Question: | will this lens fit my Sony A7R ii |
Answer: | Make sure to get the e-mount version and it will fit the Sony A7Rii. Just keep in mind that there is a catch. This lens is designed for crop sensor cameras and it will likely have some vignetting on a full frame camera like the A7R ii. |

User questions & answers
Question: | does it work with d |
Answer: | Yes! It’s manual focus so I suggest using your led screen and led zoom function to get sharp focus of a star or planet. Screen mode or whatever it might be called on your camera. I’ve had good results and astrophotography is what I bought this lens for specifically. |
Question: | does this lens have auto chip |
Answer: | Sure it will fit the Rebel T3 - keep in mind that this is a manual focus lens, but a very sharp lens |
Question: | Is this lens appropriate for video? We are looking for a good cinematic lens |
Answer: | I just got this lens for astrophotography and decided to see if I could find where it focuses the sharpest when capturing stars. I took a series of shots with the focus set as far into infinity as it could go, then I backed it off about 1mm for each shot (at ~30 seconds shutter speed) while the focus ring was inside the infinity line. After reviewing the shots in Lightroom, I honestly can't see much of a difference in sharpness between the shots. The scene included a well lit object about 1 mile away and a generous portion of the Milky Way as well as Sirius and Canopus, and even zoomed in all the way, the stars and the lit object have about the same amount of sharpness through the series of images. I plan on duplicating this setup but at a shorter shutter speed to see if I can spot a difference, but so far it seems sharp in the whole "infinity" range. This blows my Canon 28mm f/1.8 out of the water completely for astrophotography (at a savings of ~$200). The Canon is fairly useless over f/2.8 anyway because you get a ton of coma around the edges of the image, so the wider aperture doesn't help. The Rokinon has no noticeable coma at the edges at f/2.8 either. |
Question: | Can anyone tell me why this would not be an optimum lens for video as mentioned in responses to other questions on this product |
Answer: | I use a D5100 that has a an APS-C sensor similar to the D90 and the Rokinon 8mm fisheye lens doesn't create a circular image; the image completely fills the frame. This lens will create a circular image only on a full-frame sensor camera like the Nikon D3S or D800. |
