User questions & answers
Question: | Le queda a una Nikon D |
Answer: | Nikon provides a compatibility chart that shows the limitations (if any) with their lenses. I'll try and paste the link here, but if that does not work you can easily find the chart on the internet. http://www.nikonusa.com/en_INC/IMG/Assets/Common-Assets/Images/Teleconverter-Compatibility/EN_Comp_chart.html |
Question: | is the 18-140mm a wide angle lens |
Answer: | No, it won't. That lens is not on the compatibility list at nikonusa.com. There is another website that explains teleconverters in a fair amount of detail, and it doesn't list the 28-300 mm lens either. https://backcountrygallery.com/all-about-teleconverters-tcs/ |
Question: | Will this len work with Nikon D |
Answer: | The D500 Yes. I don't know about the lens but Nikon could give you the answer. |
Question: | My certified refurbished lens arrived in bubble wrap without a box or warranty. Is this typical for a refurbished product |

User questions & answers
Question: | The 18-105mm lens that comes with the D90 has a "G" after the apature numbers. Is this the same lens? What does the G stand for |
Answer: | I called Nikon directly & was told it is compatible with your camera, but would only work in manual mode (not autofocus mode, because that camera doesn't have an auto focus motor in the body). |
Question: | My D5200 can auto-focus with this lens? I see the D5200 can AF only with some lens with "G |
Answer: | Hi Lu SimensenThank you for your email to C&W lens. Both D7000 and D700 have build-in motor, so they can work with any Nikon AF lens including Nikon 80-200. To choose between Nikon 80-200 and 70-200 is always struggle to many photography enthusiasts. So here are some of my opinions: the good thing about the 70-200: it has VR and it is a little wider than 80-200, the bad thing: it is much more expensive and much heavier than 80-200. Optically, I feel they are almost the same. Hope my answer can help you a little. Thank you.C&W lens |
Question: | Is this lens compatible with the Nikon D |
Answer: | The D 500 is a crop sensor and this lens are for a full frame, check Nikonusa.com website for compatibility. I use mine with a D 750 and works great. Hope this helps |
Question: | Does this lens take good, crisp, clear pictures? Is it a good "walk about lens" Maybe for Disney or to get photos of the kiddos |
Answer: | Yes. The lens will work on your D600. Other than the 10mm focal length difference compared to the 70-200 2.8, the 70-200 has VR (vibration reduction). The newer 70-200 has VR II then older one has VR I. I also believe the 80-200 shoots a little "cooler" compared to the 70-200, which seems to have slightly better color rendition. This can be adjusted in post processing however. The 80-200 is also just a little slower on focussing though it has not impacted my sports photography. |

Optical Conversion Factor: 1.5x. The world is full of amazing views—some right in front of us, others far in the distance. Capture all of them beautifully with a single lens, the outstanding all-in-one telephoto zoom AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3G ED VR. Surprisingly compact and lightweight for a 16.7x zoom lens, the AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3G ED VR draws great performance from Nikon DX-format D-SLRs and is a highly versatile second lens. Shoot wide-angle scenic landscapes and group photos, portraits with softly blurred backgrounds, super-telephoto close-ups and everything in between—if you can see it, the AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3G ED VR can capture it. Optimized for shooting both stills and HD videos, it features specialized Vibration Reduction technology for tack-sharp photos and steady videos, even when your hands are a bit shaky. Its compact, balanced design and Vibration Reduction technology help keep photos sharp and videos steady, and the lens' fast, quiet autofocus system minimizes camera noise during video recording. User questions & answers
Question: | Why is there such a big price difference in this lens? Some are $696 some $999 and in between. What gives |
Answer: | The more expensive lens is about 10 ounces heavier (!), and inch longer and has a wider diameter which you will see if you pull up the specs side by side on nikonusa.com. There are a few other differences like more diaphragm blades and a smaller minimum aperture. I am mostly happy with the less expensive model, but you might want to check out the Nikon P900 if you are shopping for a new camera and don't absolutely need a dslr. |
Question: | What is the difference between this new lens and the old 18-300 one? please be specific |
Answer: | Cheaper and lighter, but slower at the long end of the zoom when compared to the older Nikon 18-300. Lighter than my old Nikon 18-200 VR. A well worthwhile upgrade, for me that is. |
Question: | Will this lens work on a Nikon D |
Answer: | Nikon's 18-300mm is PERFECT for the D3200 & all DX SLR's from Nikon. It has a great range! Thanks - Service Photo in Baltimore. |
Question: | Which lens hood is compatible with this lens |
Answer: | This lens accepts the Nikon HB-39 hood. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will it work on D |
Answer: | No, the lens did not work with the D200 Nikon camera. When I entered the camera type into Amazon search, it indicated that it would work. However, when an attempt was made to use the lens, it did not work with the camera. |
Question: | Oddly descriptopn says d3200 is "incompatible", but the "make sure this fits" link says it is compatible? what gives |
Answer: | The AF-P lenses don't autofocus on a lot of the older models. At least not at this time. Nikon may possibly address this with future firmware updates, so this answer might not apply down the road. If you want to ensure backwards compatibility stay with the AF-S lenses for now. I believe (not 100% sure) the D3200 is the most recent model that was NOT AF-P compatible. D3300, D5500 and later all seem to work. |
Question: | P: Is it compatible with d5300? Please i need the assurance |
Answer: | Yes, I have a D5300 and it works with that model. I have taken it out on several photo shoots. I noticed after I bought it that this lens did not come with the auto or manual focus option or the VR option so is a step down from lenses with those options. |
Question: | Is this compatible with the D |
Answer: | No. Ones compatible with the D3400 typically aren't compatible with the D3200 |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will it autofocus on D |
Answer: | I have the D5100... I would only be assuming it would focus on the d5300. |
Question: | Will the autofocus work on 50mm f/1.8G AF-S Nikkor lens for the D |
Answer: | Yes, the auto-focus will work. But remember this is an FX lens. Your DX D3200 camera will register it as a 75mm lens rather than a 50mm lens. |
Question: | Could you comment on the merits of 50mm F 1.8 vs. 85 mm F 1.8 for portrait photography much of which will just be shot in the home on a D |
Answer: | Either lense is fine for portrait use though, but I prefer to keep portraits to around 50-85mm so on my aps-c sensor body it left me with one choice. A fx lens on a dx body has a focal length of 1.5x the rating. So a 50mm on a D7100 comes out to a 75mm, and the 85mm lens acts like a 127.rmm lens. For this reason I chose the 50mm F1.8 lens. It has nice bokeh and since the length isn't too long the portrait image still has some depth and isn't flattened. |
Question: | nikon 50mm f/1.8g vs. nikon 50mm f/1.4g... which one |
Answer: | Get the 1.8 and use the difference to buy the 35 1.8g dx |

Your DSLR’s Best Friend
A must-have for standard portraits and everyday use, the AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G is a lens that will absolutely surprise you. The 50mm focal length (75mm equivalent on DX format cameras) with a fast f/1.8 aperture allows you to capture stunning images with a shallow depth-of-field, letting your subjects stand out from their backgrounds. The AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G may soon become your new favorite lens.
Brilliance In Any Light Get Astonishing Low Light Results
This lightweight standard lens is a great travel companion because you never know when a beautiful, sunny day will turn cloudy and rainy. With its fast f/1.8 aperture, the AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G will capture even low-light situations with stunning brilliance.
Beautiful Background Blur Achieve More Natural Depth Of Field
Whether you're shooting portraits, food or nature—indoors or outdoors—the AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G renders a beautiful, natural background blur (Bokeh) at its wider aperture settings. And its 50mm focal length is perfect for creating natural perspective in your photographs.
Capture Every Detail Shoot Tack-Sharp Portraits Every Time
Nikon's Super Integrated Coating (SIC) enhances light transmission efficiency and offers superior color consistency and reduced flare, while the AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G's Aspherical Lens Element (AS) virtually eliminates coma and other types of aberrations, even when shooting at the widest available aperture. Pair that with Nikon's Silent Wave Motor (SWM) for fast, accurate and quiet autofocus, and you can be sure all of your portraits will be tack sharp.
Silent Wave Motor
AF-S NIKKOR lenses feature Nikon’s Silent Wave Motor (SWM). This technology converts 'traveling waves' into rotational energy to focus the optics. This enables high-speed autofocusing that's extremely accurate and super quiet.
M/A
Select NIKKOR lenses have a focusing mode which allows switching from automatic to manual focusing with virtually no lag time by simply turning the focusing ring on the lens. This makes it possible to seamlessly switch to fine manual focusing while looking through the viewfinder.
Aspherical Lens
A lens with a curved, non-spherical surface. Used to reduce aberrations and enable a more compact lens size. Aspherical lenses minimize coma and other types of lens aberrations, even when used at the widest aperture. They are particularly useful in correcting distortion in wide-angle lenses and help contribute to a lighter, more compact design by reducing the number of standard (spherical) elements necessary. Aspherical lens elements correct these distortions by continuously changing the refractive index from the center of the lens.
Super Integrated Coating
Nikon Super Integrated Coating is Nikon's term for its multilayer coating of the optical elements in NIKKOR lenses.

User questions & answers
Question: | Does the Auto Focus work on the D5100? I have read one site that it does not |
Answer: | It works great for me. My guess is that someone got a lemon, and I'm sure they do exist. You can see photos I took with my D5100 at http://idaholyoaks4.blogspot.com/. There are lots of shots there I took with my D5100, as well as some I took with older cameras. |
Question: | Will this lens autofocus with the D |
Answer: | Will this lens autofocus with the D5200? |
Question: | Will this lens autofocus with the D3100? I just had to return the 70-300mm Nikon lens because the autofocus wasn't compatible with the camera |
Answer: | Any AF-S lens should work with your camera. This is due to the fact that AF-S lenses have a built-in motor. Since your camera has no motor, it requires these lenses for auto focus. Your 70-300 lens must not have been an AF-S. |
Question: | I got a Nikon D40 ..what xx to 300 mm lense would be good...Nikor or Tamron |
Answer: | It really depends on what subjects you will be shooting, how much you will use it and what your budget is. The Nikon (NIKKOR) lenses are more ruggedly built than similar products from Tamron or Sigma. Optically, I think that the Tamron would be a good lens, just not as durable. I have shot with Nikons since 1973 and have only ever bought NIKKOR lenses. I use my cameras and lenses every day, so they see a lot of use and, inevitably, a certain amount of abuse--shooting in rain, snow, bumps, scrapes, etc. If you only use your D40 once every 2 or 3 weeks, the Tamron will probably fill your need. As to subject, I think you will find the 300mm lens to be too long for sports. I have both the 18-200mm DX NIKKOR and the 70-200 FX NIKKOR lenses and they are plenty long for field sports. If you shoot wildlife, you will appreciate the 300mm lens, and you might even want to add a teleconverter to it for longer reach. On the shorter end, if you already have the 18-55mm zoom, the 55-300 will fit right in. The NIKKOR 55-300mm sells for under $400, bearing in mind that it is a DX format lens, which is fine for the D40. If you think you might eventually upgrade your camera body, take a look at the NIKKOR 70-300mm lens. It is an FX format lens, which will work on any Nikon body, is the same aperture as the 55-300 and is only about $190 more than the NIKKOR 55-300mm. All of the lenses I am suggesting have Nikon's Vibration Ruduction (VR) built in which is good for 2-4 f/stops slower shutter speed when hand holding the lens. If you know that you will only be using a tripod for very long focal lengths Nikon does have an FX 70-300mm f/4-5.6 that sells for about $160. Caution, do not try to handhold that lens at 300mm at shutter speeds below 1/250 second, but that's what we all used to do. Still, I highly recommend the Vibration Reduction Lenses. |

Advanced Performance Nikon Technology for Stunning Photos
The AF-S DX NIKKOR 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR continues Nikon’s tradition of advancing imaging technology. In addition to VR II image stabilization, it features some of Nikon’s latest lens technologies: Nikon’s exclusive Silent Wave Motor (SWM) for precise, fast, ultra-quiet autofocus operation, Super Integrated Coating (SIC) for enhanced performance in low-light and minimizing ghosting and flare, Tripod Detection Mode for reducing vibrations during tripod shooting and more.
Vibration Reduction
A Nikon in-lens technology that improves image stability by automatically compensating for camera shake. Lenses that offer VR will feature the abbreviation VR on the lens barrel.
Silent Wave Motor

ED (Extra-Low Dispersion) Glass
An optical glass developed by Nikon that is used with normal optical glass in telephoto lenses to obtain optimum correction of chromatic aberrations.
HRI
HRI stands for High Refractive Index Lens. With a refractive index of more than 2.0, one HRI lens can offer effects equivalent to those obtained with several normal glass elements and can compensate for both field curvature and spherical aberrations. Therefore, HRI lenses achieve great optical performance in an even more compact body.

User questions & answers
Question: | would this lens be useful on safari? I already have a sigma 100-400. thanks |
Answer: | Depends on your plan of attack in Africa. If your goal is simply wildlife including birds, a long telephoto such as the 100-400 is a good choice. I used an film 400 mm many years ago and it was fine. But there is a lot that's closer than even a 100 mm and for all that stuff and scenery, this would be a very good choice. It's the default lens I leave on my D5500. Those two would be a great combination. |
Question: | Is this lens compatible with the Nikon D |
Answer: | It works great with the d5300 i would think it would work with the d5500 i believe it is a dx lens |
Question: | I shoot product at F8 to F10 is it worth getting this over the 16-85mm |
Answer: | The 16-80mm is faster with better vibration reduction, but the 16-85mm is only one fstop from the 16-80mm. It price is an issue then the 16-85mm would be a better price. I personally like the 16-80 because right now I shoot more on auto due to a recent surgery! Hope that helps! |
Question: | At what focal lengths does the aperture get smaller |
Answer: | Lens is f2.8 only at 16mm, and is slower at longer focal lengths. f3 at 24mm, f3.5 at 50mm, and f4 by 80mm. |
