Stunning picture quality comes from the low light Exmor R sensor and premium ZIESS lens with 5-axis image stabilization. Then share photos instantly with built-in Wi-Fi^2 and NFC^3.

30x optical zoom ZEISS lens plus 60x Clear Image Digital Zoom

Get super close and clear with the premium ZEISS Vario-Sonnar T* lens from wide angle (24mm equivalent) to 30x optical zoom plus 60x Clear Image digital zoom. The ZEISS T* coating reduces undesirable reflection, such as ghosting and flare, on the lens surface, while 30x optical zoom allows you to get closer to your subject. With Clear Image Zoom the powerful BIONZ X processor compares patterns found in adjacent pixels and creates new pixels to match selected patterns, resulting in more realistic, higher-quality images. Clear Image Zoom doubles optical zoom for closer photos.

Superb 18.2MP image quality

The DSC-HX80 features an 18.2 megapixel backside illuminated Exmor R CMOS image sensor with a BIONZ X image processor. This brings out the full resolving power of the camera’s professional ZEISS Vario-Sonnar T* Lens to deliver high resolution, and stunning low-light sensitivity with improved image clarity and drastically reduced grain for both stills and movie.

Selfie-ready multi-angle 3" Xtra Fine LCD display

User questions & answers

Question: I love the camera, but I cannot get it to capture still photos while recording a movie. Can somebody tell me how to do it
Answer: Hello Harry, Please explain what you mean you cannot get still shots while recording. Do you want the camera to display still photos when you take them and you choose when to continue taking video. Or you cannot find your still photos after you take them, you only see the video. As I explained, possibly not clearly, when you are recording a video and you press the shutter button to take a photo, the camera do not interupt your video recording to display the picture. after completing your video you press the play/review button and then you will see the photos and the video when going in reverse order. if you review from begining you will see video first then your pictures.
Question: I want to make sure I have everything I need to start shooting on day one. What accessories come in the box with the camera
Answer: I would suggest at least ordering 55-mm UV filter (acts as lense protector so you should never have to wipe/clean the coatings on your expensive lense or worry about scratches). May want to consider a circular polarizing lens (linear polarizers supposedly don't work on sensor cameras). You will also want to have an SD, SDHC, or SDXC UHS-I (letter I vs an UHS-II interface) memory card that is at least Class 10 (C with a 10 in it), UHS-1 (number 1) or UHS-3 speed class which is U with a 1 or 3 in it. I suggest at least 16 GB, with 32 GB being better. I like videos, so I got 64 GB. A case to protect your camera would be nice. I also favor a better shoulder strap and a hand strap grip. One end of the hand strap should screw into the tripod mount and supply its own tripod mount hole to allow mounting to tripod without removing the strap.
Question: can you use filters with this camera and if so what size does it take
Answer: You can use 55mm filters with the Sony HX400V
Question: can the camera be operated remotly with the smartphone for to take photos and make focus with wifi or another wireless methods
Answer: Yes this camera can be operated remotely with smartphones. You can take the picture and zoom in and out. You can see the subject being photographed on the phone. It updates every 2 seconds.

Exmor R and BIONZ X deliver superb image quality

An 18.2 megapixel (effective) back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS sensor — works with the advanced BIONZ X image-processing system to deliver superb image quality, even for fine textures and details. With a range of ISO80-6400 (expanded), even dimly lit scenes can be beautifully shot, while color-reproduction improvements produce natural-looking skin tones.

Stunning 4K video

Capture stunning 4K3 video (QFHD, 3840 x 2160 pixels) with full sensor pixel readout and no pixel binning - collecting approximately 1.6x as much information as is required. This oversampling effect results in images of outstanding resolution with reduced moire and jaggies. The HX99 is also capable of shooting high-frame rate HD video at up to 120 fps to produce impressive slow-motion sequences during editing.

3 4K (3840 x 2160 pixels) Continuous recording time is approx. 5 minutes, and may vary with recording environment. Class 10 or higher micro SDHC/SDXC memory card is required to record movies in the XAVC S format. UHS-I (U3) is also required for recording at 100Mbps

Eye-AF for perfect portraits

The sophisticated Eye AF feature can be activated to automatically detect and focus on the eyes of the main subjects in your shots. It rapidly and accurately detects eyes even under difficult conditions, such as when the subject is looking downward or when faces are backlit or dimly lit.

Fast Intelligent AF to capture decisive moments

The HX99 adopts Fast Intelligent AF using high-speed, highly accurate contrast-detection autofocus. It achieves focus by minimizing wasted lens motion, predicting AF range and accelerating the lens drive, improving response so you can capture even more fleeting moments.

Control ring for advanced photography

The convenient lens-mounted control ring allows you to operate pro-style manual controls such as manual focus, step zooming or selecting shutter speed, aperture, and more for added creative control — so there’s no need to compromise your vision because of the camera’s compact size. The HX99 also features a customizable ‘My Menu’ option for instant recall of up to 30 different settings.

Selfie-ready 180° Tiltable 3" LCD

The high-resolution 3.0-inch type screen with tilt capability is perfect for taking selfies and framing low-angle shots. You can use it in various shooting positions for greater flexibility in capturing creative compositions.

Touch Focus and Shutter

With Touch Focus you can simply touch the LCD at the point of the image you want to focus on, for both still and video capture, so you can intuitively focus on subjects even at the edge of the frame without reframing. The shutter can also be operated by touching the LCD screen. When using the electronic viewfinder, the LCD can be used as a Touch Pad AF to shift focus smoothly and easily, simply by sliding your finger across the LCD screen.

10 fps4 with fast AF

During still photography, the HX99 can acquire focus in as little as 0.09 seconds, and can shoot continuously at up to 10 fps4 for up to 155 shots5. Continuous-shot images can also be displayed, deleted and protected in groups.
