13 best dslr under 300
DSLR cameras under $300 are budget-friendly options that cater to photographers looking for an affordable entry point into digital photography. While they may not offer the advanced features and capabilities of higher-end DSLRs, they can still deliver good image quality and versatility. Here are some key aspects to consider when looking for a DSLR camera in this price range:
Resolution: DSLRs under $300 typically offer resolutions ranging from 16 to 24 megapixels. This is sufficient for everyday photography needs, including capturing family moments or taking hobbyist-level photos.
Sensor Size: These cameras often come with APS-C or similar-sized sensors, which are larger than those found in most compact cameras and smartphones. A larger sensor typically results in better image quality, especially in low-light conditions.
Lens Compatibility: Many budget DSLR cameras are sold with kit lenses, which are generally versatile for a variety of photography styles. Consider whether the camera is compatible with a wide range of lenses, as this can expand your creative possibilities in the future.
Image Quality: While DSLRs in this price range may not have all the advanced features of more expensive models, they still produce good image quality. Look for cameras with good noise control and color accuracy for your needs.
ISO Range: Check the camera's ISO range, which determines its sensitivity to light. A wider ISO range is beneficial for low-light photography, so you can capture images in challenging lighting conditions without excessive noise.
Autofocus: Look for DSLRs with fast and accurate autofocus systems, as this will help you capture sharp and in-focus images, especially when shooting moving subjects.
Video Capability: If you plan to shoot videos, consider cameras that offer Full HD (1080p) video recording at a minimum. Some budget DSLRs also provide manual control over video settings.
Connectivity: Check whether the camera has built-in Wi-Fi or Bluetooth for easy transfer of photos to your smartphone or tablet, allowing you to share images quickly on social media.
Brand and Model: Major camera manufacturers like Canon and Nikon offer entry-level DSLR models within this price range. Research and compare different models to find the one that best suits your needs and preferences.
Used or Refurbished Options: You might also consider buying a used or refurbished DSLR from reputable sources, which can sometimes provide better features and performance within your budget.
Remember that while DSLRs under $300 can be excellent entry-level cameras, they may have some limitations compared to more expensive models. It's essential to assess your photography goals and budget to find the right DSLR that meets your specific needs while staying within your price range.

Answer: | Amazon allows you 30 days to return it |
Question: | Why did you choose this camera |
Answer: | A lot of the most commonly spoken languages are there. English, Russian, Spanish, Arabic, French, Dutch, German, Danish, Portugese, Turkish, Chinese, Japanese, Korean and many more |
Question: | Would this be a great camera for a beginner |
Answer: | This camera is not, but he biggest and most obvious advantage of 4K video over 1080p is that 4K has a much higher resolution - nearly four times the resolution in a 16:9 ratio. Commonly known as UHD, 4K video is any video with a horizontal resolution close to 4,000 pixels, generally accepted to be 3,840px by 2,160px. However, Full HD video is any video with a vertical resolution of 1080 pixels (standard HD video is 720 pixels). The increase in resolution from 1080p to 4K means that 4K capable UHD televisions reproduce much more intricate details in each frame, with more gradients in colours and sharper contrast, as well as less moire. |
Question: | Is it true that if I buy the Nikon D3200 bundle, that none of the two lens included in the promotion have Vibration Reduction (VR |
Answer: | This camera does not have a port for an external microphone. It does have an internal microphone. |

Improved EOS HD Video mode with manual exposure control
Designed for the evolving, tech-savvy user, the EOS 60D features HD Video capture technologies--manual exposure control for more creative control, for example--borrowed directly from professional Canon DSLRs to capture stellar video with all the benefits of shooting with a DSLR. By shooting video with the EOS 60D, photographers as well as filmmakers can take advantage of the creative features native to DSLR cameras. Along with its manual controls, the EOS 60D allows for full use of Canon EF and EF-S lenses, including Macro and Fisheye, providing a plethora of shooting options once reserved only for still photography. The resulting HD video is a standout in its beautiful depth-of-field characteristics and remarkable capture capability under poor lighting conditions. Additionally, a Movie Crop function is included: An SD-quality video (640 x 480) can be cropped to the equivalent of about 7x magnification of regular shooting.
The audio input level can be set to Auto or Manual, up to 64 levels, and a wind filter minimizes unwanted background noise. By pressing the Quick Control button, a simple graphic user interface for adjusting image quality, white balance, image creation and other settings appears on the LCD. The EOS 60D even lets users edit video in-camera: On-site or off, unnecessary scenes can be deleted and the start/end points of video footage can be designated via in-camera editing functions without the need of a separate computer.

Video can be captured at a number of resolutions and frame rates for numerous applications. It can capture 1920 x 1080 Full HD video at frame rates of 30 (29.97 fps), 24 (23.976 fps) and 25.0 frames per second, for up to 4GB per clip. Video footage is saved as MOV files and can be viewed in Full HD through the EOS 60D DSLR's HDMI output. Other recording sizes include HD at 1280 x 720 (50/60 fps) or SD/VGA at 640 x 480 (50/60 fps)--24/30 fps delivers cinema-like motion, while 60fps is perfect for footage being uploaded to video-sharing websites. The EOS 60D also has a built-in microphone for simple mono recording and stereo sound can be recorded through a self-powered external microphone.

A first for any EOS, the EOS 60D features a bright, high resolution, flip-out Vari-angle 3.0-inch Clear View LCD monitor for shooting at a variety of angles. By easily switching between low and high angles, the EOS 60D freely enables angle adjustments even if the camera is mounted on a tripod or has a battery grip attached.
With 1,040,000 (dots/VGA) pixels for spectacular detail, the advanced, smudge-resistant monitor includes high transparency materials plus anti-reflective and water-repellant coatings to provide clear and bright viewing. Superb for reviewing, editing and deleting photos or composing new images in Live View function, the Vari-angle Clear View LCD monitor is also the perfect means for accessing camera settings like ISO, metering modes, AF Point selection, the horizontal Electronic Level and flash options.
5.3fps continuous shooting up to approx. 58 Large/JPEGs and 16 RAW
The EOS 60D operates with such effortless speed that operation is nothing short of intuitive. With a 0.1 second start-up time, speedy autofocus and minimal shutter lag, the EOS 60D is made to capture even rapidly-occurring scenes with stunning precision. Able to shoot up to 5.3 frames per second (fps), capturing a maximum burst of approximately 58 Large/JPEGs and 16 RAW, the EOS 60D DSLR lets you catch even the briefest of moments, whether it's a faced-paced soccer game or the flicker of a candle flame.

96% viewfinder coverage allowing you to see more of your image in the viewfinder
The EOS 60D features a phenomenally redesigned viewfinder that not only offers an improved 96% coverage, 0.95x magnification, a 27.0° angle of view and user-controlled dioptric adjustment, it also features a newly designed transparent LCD display that enables a number of viewfinder displays. A six-level battery check indicator has been added on the left, and the exposure level indicator scale has been expanded to up to three stops, with arrows indicating greater exposure levels.

Enhanced iFCL 63-zone, Dual-layer metering system; and 9-point AF system
The EOS 60D features a sophisticated, 63-zone Dual-layer sensor designed to complement the 9-point AF system. By taking into account the color and luminosity surrounding chosen AF points, this system delivers an advanced level of accuracy for better results even in difficult lighting situations. Since the metering sensor has a color measurement function, exposure errors and focus errors caused by different light sources are minimized; the EOS 60D gives stable exposure from shot to shot in situations where light changes, such as in a theater or concert hall. This makes the EOS 60D ideal for scenes with extreme difference in brightness such as brightly lit scenes or backlit scenes; the camera balances exposure of the main subject at the background, and exposures are not overly influenced by bright areas in the shot.
Since the EOS 60D provides high-speed X-sync ("X-sync" means the fastest shutter speed that can synchronize with a flash burst at the moment the shutter is fully released) up to 1/250 sec., the range of photographic expression is dramatically increased, allowing the EOS 60D to be used with confidence in bright scenes or dim.

The EOS 60D marks a highpoint in convenience for the photographer by being able to shoot an image as a RAW file and then process it entirely in-camera to produce a separate JPEG file without the need of an outside computer. The EOS 60D gives you 10 process variables--brightness adjustment, white balance, Picture Style, Auto Lighting Optimizer, noise reduction, JPEG image-recording quality, color space, lens peripheral illumination correction, distortion correction and chromatic aberrations correction--to create the image you envision, set to the 3:2 aspect ratio used in 35mm film.
Additionally, once you capture an image with the EOS 60D, you can digitally manipulate it in-camera with a number of creative filters for artistic and dramatic effect. Options include Soft Focus Effect to convey dreamy tableaus; Grainy Black-and-White Effect for a gritty, hard-bitten look; Toy Camera Effect--the deliberate vignetting and color shift technique popular in art photography--and Miniature Effect, which blurs the top and bottom edges of the image to emphasize perspective and conveys a miniaturized look of the scene.
Compatibility with SD/SDHC/SDXC memory cards
The EOS 60D DSLR uses popular SD, SDHC and SDXC memory cards. Compact, inexpensive and available in increasingly large capacities, SD, SDHC and SDXC memory cards are a perfect complement to the EOS 60D DSLR's compact and lightweight body design.
Compatible with the full line of Canon EF and EF-S lenses
The EOS 60D is compatible with all Canon lenses in the EF and EF-S lineup, ranging from ultra-wide angle to super telephoto lenses. Canon lenses employ advanced optical expertise and micron-precision engineering to deliver unprecedented performance in all facets of the photographic process. Special optical technologies, such as aspherical, ultra-low dispersion, or fluorite elements are featured in the universally acclaimed L-series lenses. And Canon's Optical Image Stabilizer technology is featured in select lenses to minimize the effect of camera shake. Additionally, photographers can use for video the same lenses they do for still photography; Canon wide-angle, macro, super-telephoto, tilt-shift and fisheye lenses provide a wealth of focal lengths, depth-of-field and other creative shooting options once reserved for stills. Through Canon lenses, photographers can truly maximize the quality and liberating performance of the EOS 60D.

Flash Photography
With a flash sync speed of 1/250 of a second, the EOS 60D also features the acclaimed E-TTL II flash metering system. With any of the flashes in the EX Speedlite line (sold separately), E-TTL II provides reliable flash output whether shooting fill-in flash pictures in sunlight, or using flash in total darkness. With E-TTL II, the exact same 35-zone metering sensor used for measuring ambient light is also used for flash metering--giving even finer metering command of the image area. If you prefer a broader area for flash metering, there's a menu setting to change to "Average" flash metering--where the entire 35-zone area is measured evenly for flash exposure. Additionally, the EOS 60D has a Speedlite transmitter built-in for convenient, full-featured wireless control of EX-series Speedlite flashes set as slave units.
The Canon Speedlite 430EX II is the ideal step-up accessory for powerful flash shooting with the EOS 60D. It has excellent flash power (maximum guide number of 141 ft./43m at ISO 100), and is the perfect way to get great flash pictures when you can't get right up to the subject. The 430EX II is also great for bounce flash, with its tilting and swiveling flash head. It automatically zooms the flash head to cover lenses ranging from 16mm up to 105mm or longer with the EOS 60D. Of course, it works with the camera to provide full E-TTL II automatic flash exposure. And the 430EX II has a powerful AF-assist beam, which allows the camera to autofocus even in total darkness on subjects as far as 32 ft. from the camera.
Included Software

While the Rebel XT is compatible with all Canon lenses in the EF lineup -- ranging from ultra-wide-angle to super-telephoto lenses --, the camera includes the Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 lens. This 18-55mm is a standard zoom designed exclusively for the Digital Rebel and features optimized coating to minimize ghost images and flare.
If action photography is your specialty, the Rebel XT offers a continuous shooting mode that captures as many as 14 images as fast as three frames per second (with shutter speeds of 1/250 second or faster.) The camera offers a shutter speed range from 1/4,000 to 30 seconds, and a bulb x-sync at 1/200 seconds. Best of all, it features an ultra-fast 0.2 seconds startup time, a shutter release lag of 100 milliseconds, and viewfinder blackout time of 175 milliseconds -- all of which means that you'll always be on top of the action.
Despite its wealth of advanced features, the Rebel XT is also one of the easiest, and most user-friendly digital SLRs you'll find anywhere. Its compact design -- 4.98 x 3.71 x 2.63 inches (W x H x D) -- and weight (less than two pounds) means that the camera body will fit snugly in your hands. The EOS Digital Rebel XT has a newly developed high-precision seven-point autofocus (AF) system for speedy and accurate focusing in any situation. You can easily choose your own point of focus or direct the camera to choose it automatically. You can even use predictive AF to ensure that moving subjects stay focused while you compose your shot. With a built-in dioptric adjustment mechanism and a new precision matte screen, achieving sharp focus is fast and easy with the Rebel XT, no matter where or when you're taking pictures.
A number of additional automatic setting and shooting modes -- including Portrait, Landscape, Close-up, Sports, Night Portrait, and Flash Off -- allows you to concentrate on your subject and leave the camera to sort out the details. A redeye reduction via a built-in illuminator keeps your face shots on track, and USB 2.0 connectivity for both PC and Macintosh lets you upload your images with ease and without the need for additional software. The camera also supports direct printing with PictBridge compatible printers. In short, the Rebel XT is the ideal digital SLR choice for both the serious photographer who demands the ultimate in high-quality features, as well as the weekend picture taker who demands the ultimate in affordability and convenience.
From the Manufacturer
The Canon EOS Digital Rebel camera now has a new, faster, and even smaller big brother. Sibling rivalries aside, the 8.0-megapixel Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT SLR adds resolution, speed, extra creative control, and enhanced comfort in the hand to one of the smallest and lightest digital cameras in its class. Despite its advancements in ergonomic design and technology, this easy-to-use EOS digital camera is compatible with all of Canon's EF lenses including the EF-S lenses.
Rebel Without a Choice No More
The EOS Digital Rebel XT camera takes its place alongside the original 6.3 MP EOS Digital Rebel camera that first placed an affordable, high-resolution digital SLR into the hands of Canon consumers. The EOS Digital Rebel XT model is offered in two kit configurations: With Canon's high-quality EF-S 18-55mm f3.5-f5.6 zoom lens (in matte black and in brushed silver) and as a body only (in matte black and in brushed silver).
![]() |
There are, of course, some very real differences between the EOS Digital Rebel XT digital camera and the more advanced EOS 20D. While the 20D SLR includes performance features such as faster continuous shooting speed (5 frames per second [fps] vs. 3 fps) with larger burst capability (23 frames vs. 14 frames) and custom function settings (18 vs. 9) that more than justify its heftier price tag, this new Rebel XT model was created for those dedicated SLR users who are migrating to digital for the first time and don't wish to give up the flexibility an SLR system offers.
![]() |
Utilizing the same 7-point autofocus system as the EOS Digital Rebel camera, the new EOS Digital Rebel XT SLR is capable of analyzing where a subject is--even when it is off center--and almost immediately bringing it into focus. It can also analyze subject movement and automatically select locking or tracking AF modes as needed. These features simplify the camera's operation and optimize its performance. The Digital Rebel XT allows users to select locking or tacking AF modes independently, adding a new dimension of creative control.
Finer Photos Faster
The new EOS Digital Rebel XT digital camera can shoot up to 14 consecutive large/fine (8.0-megapixel) JPEGs, five RAW files, or four RAW + large/fine JPEGs at a rate of up to 3 fps. The EOS Digital Rebel camera's smaller buffer permits bursts of only four large/fine (6.3-megapixel) JPEG or RAW frames at a rate of up to 2.5 fps.
While reprising the Digital Rebel SLR's ISO range of 100, 200, 400, 800, and 1600, Canon raised the Auto ISO setting on the Digital Rebel XT model to 400 to help improve image quality, reduce camera shake, and brighten the scene behind the subject when taking a flash photo. The new Digital Rebel XT camera also offers 12 exposure modes that are user selectable at the turn of a conveniently placed dial. The exposure modes--Full Auto, Portrait, Landscape, Close-up, Sports, Night Portrait, Flash Off, Program AE, Shutter Speed-Priority AE, Aperture-Priority AE, Manual and Auto Depth-of-Field AE--take into account virtually all shooting conditions and preferences.
In addition to its lossless compression 8.0-megapixel RAW image file option, the Rebel XT Digital SLR offers users the option of shooting in a range of sizes and quality JPEG settings from large (8.o-megapixel) and medium (4.15-megapixel) to small (2.0-megapixel). Within each resolution option, the user may also select quality settings: Large/fine, large/normal, medium/fine, medium/normal, small/fine, and small/normal.
RAW Power
What's more, where the original Digital Rebel camera required dedicated software to extract embedded medium/fine resolution JPEGs from the larger, uncompressed RAW image file, the new Rebel XT model saves RAW and large/fine resolution images as separate files on the Compact Flash card. The user also has the option of selecting RAW (8.0-megapixel) files only, saving valuable space on the CF card. As with the EOS 20D, the Digital Rebel XT camera's RAW files are denoted by the CR2 extension.
Creative Control
Among the new features found on the EOS Digital Rebel XT camera are user-selectable metering and AF modes, flash exposure compensation control, improved E-TTL II evaluative flash metering, and for the first time in this product category, custom function control. The Digital Rebel XT SLR even offers a monochrome mode for consumers who enjoy the subtleties and shadings that only black-and-white images offer.
The Rebel XT camera incorporates nine of the Custom Functions previously found on the EOS 20D model. Designed to fine-tune camera operation according to personal preferences, the custom functions offer users a set of programming options for the SET button/cross keys, as well as control over long exposure noise reduction, flash sync speed in AV mode, AF start from the shutter button or AE lock button, AF assist beam, mirror lockup, E-TTL II metering patterns, and shutter curtain sync.
All This and DIGIC II
Canon's newest and most powerful SLR imaging engine, DIGIC II, provides high precision and high speed, natural color reproduction including high saturation, bright subjects, improved auto white balance, and increased white balance correction control and white balance bracketing over the original Digital Rebel camera.
The white balance correction control is a digital color filter that works like a light-balancing filter or a color-compensating filter. Both the blue/amber bias and the magenta/green bias can be adjusted to +/- 9 levels. While the blue/amber bias adjustment is standard on the original Digital Rebel model, the Rebel XT camera's additional magenta/green bias adjustment provides increased color compensation from the earlier model.
![]() |
In addition to the legion of image-quality improvements, DIGIC II speeds up the camera's performance from start-up that is 10 times faster on the EOS Digital Rebel XT model (0.2 seconds) than it is on the EOS Digital Rebel with the original iteration of DIGIC (2 seconds).
Another feature improved by the presence of DIGIC II is the speed of the direct printing function, which is PictBridge compatible. DIGIC II also produces faster startup times, faster CompactFlash card writing speed, and approximately 10x faster data transfer speeds thanks to the processor's new USB 2.0 high-speed interface. As an added bonus, the DIGIC II chip is so efficient, it actually reduces the EOS Digital Rebel XT camera's power consumption (and extends battery life) by approximately 35 percent. Indeed, this new Rebel XT camera is so energy efficient, it is powered by the same lighter-weight NB-2LH battery pack used by the PowerShot S60 (as opposed to the larger BP-511A battery pack used by the original Digital Rebel model).
![]() |
The new Rebel XT camera also features the next step in the evolution of evaluative, through-the-lens exposure control, E-TTL II. Though compatible with all Canon EX-series Speedlites, this smarter new E-TTL II system helps ensure that, even in situations with highly reflective subjects or backgrounds or when shooting in most other similarly difficult lighting situations, the image will be optimally exposed.
The E-TTL II system compares the ambient light with the reflected pre-flash off the subject reported in all 35 metering zones and selects the areas with a small difference to be weighted for flash exposure calculation. This system also helps eliminate or underweights areas with large differences, recognizing them as an extremely reflective object in the background or a highly reflective subject.
Bundled Software
Both the Rebel XT Camera and lens kit and the body-only kit are shipped with three software discs including EOS Digital Solutions Disc 10 featuring ZoomBrowser EX, ImageBrowser, and ArcSoft PhotoStudio together with other utilities, another disc containing Digital Photo Professional 1.6 for RAW file conversions, and a third disc containing PDF versions of the instruction manuals for each application.

User questions & answers
Question: | I have a CANON EOS Rebel Ti 35 mm and have invested a lot into lenses and lens's. So my question is are the interchangeable with this camera |
Answer: | Yes but some old film-era third-party lenses can cause an error on Canon DSLRs like this. Also, the XT and other non-pro DSLRs have a sensor that is somewhat smaller than 35mm film so lenses will seem 1.6X times longer meaning your old 35-80mm lens will not give you very wide views on the XT at all and act more like a 56-120mm lens would on your film Rebel. For this reason, you'll also want something like an 18-55mm lens to help cover the wide end. By the way, I might also recommend looking at the XTi (bigger better LCD screen, more features), Xsi or, even better, a T1i or T2i. |
Question: | Can it manual and auto focas |
Answer: | Manual and auto focus are functions of the lens. This camera body supports recent Canon auto-focus lenses (using EF based mounts) and you can use and adapter (EF to FD) to connect legacy Canon lenses (using FD based mounts), however any legacy lens that needs an adapter, will not be able to properly auto-focus. |
Question: | With this particular item I am buying I was wondering if there are acutal pictures of it. It doesn't say how much wear and tear it has on it. I |
Answer: | The camera's I sell have very little wear. The grips are not worn. They are lightly used. You can always return it if you are not happy with the purchase. |
Question: | What comes with this camera |
Answer: | The camera's I sell come with all you need. A good battery, charger, usb cable, strap, memory card and the manual on a CD. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this overkill for some one who needs a point and shoot and doesn't know how to use a camera |
Answer: | As a "bridge" camera, it has a lot of the features of a full SLR camera (in fact, the only thing else I'd expect from a better camera would be time-lapse and a detachable lens). Of about 8 settings, there is one that functions effectively as full point-and-shoot mode, and you need not ever venture from it. But as situations come up where you want to experiment, you can explore the different modes, and once you're good at them, you'll gradually grow into all the features. |
Question: | Does the camera come with any accessories besides the battery |
Answer: | It comes with the battery and charger and shoulder strap. It has built-in wifi, so there's no need for a USB cable, though it does have a port. It's small and quite lightweight. I hope this was helpful to you |
Question: | how is the image quality? how would it compare with professional photographs |
Answer: | The pixel count is twice that of a really good phone (iPhone 6 for say) and half that of an entry level dslr. The 4.3 -215mm lens ensures that any range you shoot from will be fine. When I bought this camera, I was hoping for blurred backgrounds but this camera doesn't have an adjustable f ratio. The quality is very nice. If you're interested in the video quality it's always grainy and the built in mic not only sucks as a mic but also pucks up all the extra sound the camera starts making when you enter this mode. There is not mic jack. I bought this camera as a starter but I recommend upgrading to the Nikon d3100 or d3200. I have found that Nikon gives better deals for better cameras. The cameras I recommended are about $100 more and 100% worth the upgrade. They have twice the pixel count, interchangeable lenses, a controllable f stop, viewfinder, and ect. It's definitely worth it. I shoot every day and have found that this camera, despite the huge step up from what I was using before, is limiting me in what I can do. |
Question: | Can anyone tell me how to force the flash when the sensor says it has enough light? ie - taking a portrait of someone with sunset in background |
Answer: | I believe you only have to lift the hidden light immediately above where it says Canon in white and in front of where it says PowerShot SX360 HS near the top middle of the camera... |

Question: | will the lenses from my rebel xt fit the t |
Answer: | Yes |
Question: | Is Canon T5I is working better ,good than Canon T5 camera |
Answer: | I think the T5i is a better choice is you are willing to spend the extra money. It's faster and more capable, plus it comes with the newer 18-55 STM kit lens, which not only has benefits for autofocus during video, but it's also noticeably sharper optically than the older 18-55 kit lens bundled with the T5. The two have the exact same 18MP sensor, however, so image quality is probably very similar. Plus, you get an articulating LCD and capacitive touch screen with the T5i and the screen has more than double the resolution of the T5's. The T5 is not a bad camera despite its use of older technology, it's just way too expensive at it's starting price. If it were to drop down to say, $400-$450, it would be a better buy. |
Question: | why this only has DIGIC 4 and the older model T5i offer's DIGIC |
Answer: | Ignore Ryan's comment that this is basically the T3i. The Rebel T5 replaces the Rebel T3 while the Rebel T5i replaced the T4i. Rebel T5 are budget cameras, Rebel T5i are entry level cameras, Rebel 70D are considered mid-range cameras, and the 7D and 5D Mark III are considered semi-pro/professional cameras. |
Product description
As digital imaging continues to make inroads into the world of professional photography, Nikon's release of the D100 proves that far from being a flash in the pan, digital SLRs really can make a valuable contribution.
Styled around the more traditional N80, the D100 has a full-featured body, is nicely weighted and considerably lighter than you might expect, given the amount of technology that's packed into it. The controls are nicely situated, and navigating through the settings using the provided four-way movement pad becomes second nature very quickly. Picture preview comes courtesy of the built-in 1.8-inch LCD screen, which allows for a cursory check of any pictures taken. Unlike earlier Nikon products, it's not possible to use the screen on the D100 as an alternate viewfinder, restricting its use in tight situations, but the results through the "traditional" viewfinder are perfectly adequate.
As you would expect from a 6-megapixel camera, the image quality is superb at all levels, from the highest resolution (a mighty 3,008 x 2,000 pixels) down to a less intense 1,504 x 1,000 pixels. At any resolution, the output images are really very good, color saturation is well up to par, and overall the results stand up well. On the downside, perfectionists may well find there's a tiny amount less definition, but there's nothing here to raise anything approaching serious issues.
Power is provided from a supplied rechargeable battery pack, which is both light and long lasting--up to a maximum of two hours, depending on flash usage. To recharge from empty takes around two hours, so it would be worth investing in a second pack. The D100 takes Type I and II CompactFlash as well as Microdrive units, which are invaluable for users looking to take any more than a handful of pictures in a single session. Our tests showed a 256 MB CF card could handle around 40 high-resolution uncompressed TIFF images, suddenly making a 1 GB Microdrive look extremely attractive.
The built-in flash unit, which pops up above the lens, is powerful and efficient, proving effective in a variety of conditions. Unlike many digital cameras, it only fires a single flash, effectively reducing red-eye without sacrificing performance.
It's difficult not to be impressed by the D100. It's a stylish and good-looking camera that proves that beauty isn't just skin deep by providing results well above expectation. The inclusion of the fast-charge battery pack means downtime is kept to a minimum, and the software packages provided by Nikon (including NikonView 5) make it easy to manipulate your images and save them out to hard drive, CD, or DVD. This is not a cheap buy, especially when you consider the base price excludes any form of lens, but for those with deep pockets the D100 is a force to be reckoned with. --Elly Russell
Pros:
- Superb image quality--up to 3,008 x 2,000 pixels
- Nicely weighted, full-featured body

User questions & answers
Question: | This seller is more than helpful i believe with any lens questions!??! and 1 is silly to believe it comes with one or that a cam is not 1 w/o (dslr |
Answer: | I am not sure what the question is. I got this same type of camera 2 years ago. It will function with a large range of auto focus lens systems for many of the Nikon AF lines. Before committing to purchase one here or any of the other sites that sell cameras I would suggest to contact the seller and ask if the lens is included. |
Question: | is there a way to see pictures taken with this camera |
Answer: | Hi the pictures I have put on the ad were either taken of the camera with a different camera, and the other pictures were taken with this camera so if you look at my ad you can see some pictures taken with this camera. Thanks Howie |
Question: | What sd card does this need |
Answer: | Hi the camera I have for sale has a 2 GB Compact Flash card , and I have included one with the camera and it gives about 596 pictures at the max setting ( fine JPEG and Large ) I have found if you buy them on Amazon or E Bay the don't cost much and can be had easily . Howie1a PS this is not a SD card it is bigger than a SD card But you can also get an SD to CF adapter and than you could use SD cards in the adapter. |
Question: | Does this camera record video and have an audio input |
Answer: | It does NOT record video; it was available LONG before SLR's started capturing video. If you are in the market, the D7200 is SUPERB for both still image capture and video. This is so old, it's like flying a F-4 Phantom in a dogfight with a MiG-29 Fulcrum. |

Canon's large-area CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) sensor captures images with exceptional clarity and tonal range, and offers the most pixels in its class. This APS-C size sensor (22.2 x 14.8mm) has the same 3:2 ratio as film cameras, enabling an effective angle of view that is 1.6x the normal EF lens focal length. With pixel resolution of 3,904 x 2,598, the Digital Rebel XTi not only offers the most pixels in its class, but bests many professional-level cameras. Recorded on Canon's CMOS sensor, each pixel is captured with fine detail to create images of tremendous depth, nuance, and resolution, ensuring enough information for even poster-sized prints.
DIGIC II Image Processor
The EOS Digital Rebel XTi is the product of Canon's extensive in-house development: The DIGIC II Image Processor was designed specifically for Canon digital SLR cameras and enhances every aspect of image capture. Information captured by the CMOS sensor is processed and assembled into images of exceptional quality. With the DIGIC II Image Processor on board, photographers can expect natural color reproduction, precise white balance in any number of lighting situations, and unparalleled clarity. The DIGIC II Image Processor employs sophisticated signal processing algorithms and works at greater speeds, all while consuming less energy. The entire processing chip--not just the software that drives it--is dedicated for use in a digital still camera.

The EOS Digital Rebel XTi has a brilliant 2.5-inch LCD monitor with approximately 230,000 pixels. Also used in Canon's Professional EOS SLRs, this screen displays more than images. Shooting information and playback are both displayed on the LCD, so that the photographer can see all of the shooting information simultaneously on one screen. Not only can images be viewed larger than on the Digital Rebel XT, they can be viewed at a greater angle (160 degrees) than many other conventional LCD monitors.
Display Off Sensor
When composing images, the Digital Rebel XTi's external display turns off automatically thanks to the newly developed Display Off Sensor. This new sensor detects the photographer's face against the back panel of the camera, and turns the screen off to prevent the LCD monitor's brightness from disturbing the photographer's eye while looking through the viewfinder.
Speedy Operation
With a startup time of 0.2 seconds, the EOS Digital Rebel XTi is ready to go the instant it's brought to the eye. And the Digital Rebel XTi's shutter can record images as fast as 1/4000 seconds and as long as 30 seconds, plus bulb at up to 3 frames per second (fps) for 27 consecutive shots. It synchronizes with Canon Speedlites at 1/200 second.
EF-S 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 USM Standard Zoom Lens
This kit includes a standard zoom exclusively for the EOS Digital Rebel and EOS 20D SLR cameras, with APS-C size image circle equivalent to an approximately 28-90mm focal length. The lens is compact and ultra-lightweight with impressive close-focusing ability of 0.9 feet (0.28 meters). It features optimized coating for digital imaging sensor to minimize ghost images and flare.

The EOS Digital Rebel XTi has a high-precision 9-point AF system for speedy and accurate focusing in any situation. Conveniently located on the back of the camera for thumb-controlled action, Canon's cross key buttons enable instant choice of the 9 focus points or allow the camera to choose them automatically. One-Shot is perfect for still photography. AI Servo AF tracks moving subjects, ensuring accurate focus. AI Focus AF switches between One-Shot and AI Servo when subjects are moving and stopping. The Digital Rebel XTi's focusing system functions in metering ranges of EV-0.5 to 18 and displays information on the Digital Rebel XTi's big LCD display.
Picture Style settings
With Picture Style technology and the EOS Digital Rebel XTi, photographers can recreate characteristics of their favorite films. Color, saturation, sharpness, and contrast settings create noticeable variation in the saved image. In addition to six preset Picture Styles (Standard, Portrait, Landscape, Neutral, Faithful, and Monochrome), users can create three additional settings for their particular photographic style.
Setting | Description | Saturation | Sharpness |
Standard (default setting) | (default setting) Vivid, sharp expression; usable in a wide variety of conditions; optimal for direct printing without post-processing | high | slightly high |
Portrait | Soft texture and beautiful expression of skin color | slightly high | slightly low |
Landscape | Sharp expression with particularly vivid results for blue skies and green hues | high green-blue | high |
Neutral | Low saturation and contrast for easy adjusting during post-processing | low | none |
Faithful | Accurate reproduction of the subject's colors based on colorimetric data | low | none |
Monochrome | Monochrome expression similar to silver halide film in black and white; for color filter work | none (monochrome) | slightly high |
Print/Share Button
Printing and uploading to a computer is incredibly simple with the Digital Rebel XTi's Print/Share button. By connecting the Digital Rebel XTi to a computer via the USB 2.0 port, it's easy to transfer some or all of the photographs in the cameras memory to folders on the computer.
EF and EF-S Lenses
The EOS Digital Rebel XTi is compatible with all Canon lenses in the EF lineup, ranging from ultra-wide-angle to super-telephoto lenses, and including Canon's EF-S series lenses, manufactured specifically for Canon's APS-C sized digital sensor. Canon lenses employ advanced optical expertise and micron-precision engineering to deliver unprecedented performance in all facets of the photographic process. Aspherical optics and fluorite elements, for example, are featured in the universally acclaimed L-Series lenses, and Canon's Image Stabilizer technology in select lenses minimizes the effect of camera shake.
Flash Photography
The EOS Digital Rebel XTi features the acclaimed E-TTL II flash metering system. Whether using its flush-mounted integral flash (guide no. of 43 feet/13 meters at ISO 100), or any of the flashes in the EX Speedlite line, E-TTL II provides reliable flash output through numerous exposures.
Software
The EOS Digital Rebel XTi comes bundled with the updated Canon EOS Digital Solution Disk (Version 13.0), which features powerful software programs designed to extend the EOS experience to the computer. These include Canon's ZoomBrowser EX for Windows (Version 5.7), ImageBrower for Macintosh OS X (Version 5.7), Digital Photo Professional (Version 2.2), Canon's EOS Utility (Version 1.1) and PhotoStitch (Version 3.1). Each application is designed to perfect captured images and streamline the digital workflow.
Digital Photo Professional (Version 2.2) is an image processing program that enables high-speed RAW image processing, high-speed previewing for real-time image adjustment, and support for sRGB, Adobe RGB, and Wide Gamut RGB color spaces. Because it's CMS (Color Management System) compatible, Digital Photo Professional allows for easy image layout and printing in Adobe RGB in conjunction with Easy-PhotoPrint and PictBridge printers. It also features the Digital Rebel XTi's Dust Delete Data Detection tool for cleaner images.
EOS Utility (Version 1.1) for Macintosh or Windows handles the connection between the camera and computer, whenever they're connected via USB. It allows remote-controlled shooting from the computer, handles downloading of images from the camera to the computer, and allows seamless linking to either Canon's ZoomBrowser/ImageBrowser or Digital Photo Professional software once images have been copied to the hard drive. Furthermore, it's used to upload settings back into a USB-connected camera.
ZoomBrowser EX (Version 5.7) for Windows and ImageBrowser (Version 5.7) for Mac OS X are the easy, user-friendly options for viewing and editing of JPEG and even RAW image files. Both allow viewing of numerous types of images including finished TIFF and BMP files. Both also have a variety of search options for finding images, allow re-naming of single images or batches of files, and offer a variety of options for printing without using a separate image-editing program.
Dependable for Cleaning the Sensor
The EOS Digital Rebel XTi not only sports a newly refined body with better ergonomics and a new grip, but it also has some of Canon's most advanced improvements in dust reduction. No matter how careful photographers may be to change lenses in dust free areas and to keep their equipment as clean as possible, dust often ends up on their cameras' sensors, creating distracting spots on recorded images. The Digital Rebel XTi's integrated hardware and software solutions make trouble with dust a thing of the past. The Digital Rebel XTi is the first digital EOS SLR camera to feature this important technology: by ensuring the sensor is free of dust and debris, the camera guarantees a cleaner image.
Self Cleaning Sensor Unit
To combat stray dust that enters the camera and adheres to the image sensor during a lens change, the Digital Rebel XTi features an all new Canon-designed Self Cleaning Sensor Unit. The low-pass filter cleans itself automatically with ultrasonic vibrations, removing dust from the sensor assembly.
![]() |
Dust that has been missed by the Integrated Self Cleaning Sensor Unit can also be erased with software included in Digital Photo Professional (DPP) Version 2.2. The Digital Rebel XTi's imaging sensor is able to single out the dust particles on its surface, then plots out their location coordinates within the image. This data is transmitted along with the image, whether JPEG or RAW, and can be either manually or automatically erased in Canon's DPP 2.2. This added software option ensures the cleanest possible image, perfect for printing or archiving.

EOS Rebel XTI Camera, EF-S 18-55 MM 3.5-5.6 lens, Strap, Battery Charger, Battery Pack, USB Interface Cable, Video Cable, Software CD Rom Canon Rebel XSi Digital SLR: Highly Recommended by dpreview.com
Four and a half years have passed since the first affordable digital SLR from Canon; the EOS 300D (Digital Rebel). In that time we have witnessed two further iterations (the EOS 350D and EOS 400D) leading up to today's fourth generation EOS 450D, with twice the megapixel count of the original (twelve versus six) in a smaller body with a far wider range of functionality and features and a $200 lower list price. Since those heady days in 2004 when the EOS 300D was the only kid on the block we've seen Nikon, Pentax and Olympus all attempt to hit the same sweet spot of size, features and price at the 'lower end' of the DSLR market, with varying degrees of success. Without a doubt the EOS 450D will have to do more today to prove itself in an increasingly crowded market.
On the third page of this review you'll find a detailed breakdown of all of the changes and updates compared to the EOS 400D but the headlines are; a larger 3.0" LCD monitor, Live View with both passive and contrast detect AF, Spot metering, improved auto-focus, 3.5 fps continuous shooting a larger viewfinder and a switch SD/SDHC for storage (all previous cameras in this range were Compact Flash). Other features appear to be inherited from the EOS 40D; 14-bit image pipeline, Highlight Tone priority, optional High ISO noise reduction, 'My Menu' and display of the ISO sensitivity on the viewfinder status line. There's also the new stabilized kit lens (for review and samples click here).
Note that throughout this review we will refer to the EOS 450D by its European name; if you live in other parts of the world you'll know the camera by (in order of silliness) Rebel XSi or Kiss X2 Digital, but they're all the same.

User questions & answers
Question: | how do you take and review pictures with out cf memory card |
Answer: | The camera has no internal memory so you do need a CF card installed to record images for review. You might look into connecting the camera to a PC with the USB cable and running the EOS Utility using the "Camera Settings/Remote Shooting" option which might not need the a memory card installed to function. |
Question: | What does it come with |
Answer: | I can only tell you what my listing comes with. Camera body, 18x55 lens, lens cap, battery, charger, USB cable, memory card, strap and manual on CD. That is all you need to start right away. |
Question: | As a beginner in photography, what is a good camera (like this one) for me to use? I'm using a canon sx510hs at the moment and want to move up |
Answer: | Don't get a Nikon D3300 if you might be interested in night photography. 24MP is really only good for optimal lighting conditions. Nikons are reliable and can take jaw dropping pictures but you're really only going to ever need 8MP. Im amateur with 2 years experience but from what ive tried with light painting so far, you don't want tons of MP's due to probable grainyness of the darker images at higher ISO (image sensor sensitivities). But social media and life in general... 18mp and lots of newbie welcoming features are probably what you'll want here in your first camera. Rent a Nikon flagship model and rent a Canon flagship model. Decide from there. Good luck! |
Question: | cf error |
Answer: | On page 163 of the original XTi manual it states that "cf" is a card function error. Remove the memory card and reinstall. If that does not work, reformat the card. If that does not work get a new card. If that does not work, then the camera has a problem and needs to be serviced. |
