Ideally, just behind the rear view mirror. This is the one area of the windshield that is already usually blocked. So, if you install just behind the rear view mirror, you don’t block any additional viewing area, which is perfect.

Also, for best results in terms of view angle, when installing take into consideration that the camera is placed right under the rear view mirror handle. This is more or less the center of the windshield. This will ensure that the central view looking out of the windshield will cover the all of the road in front as well as the bonnet of the vehicle you are driving, which is key if you have a car camera with a relatively cheap dash cam with a low view angle of say 140° or less.

Answer:	Yes, it attaches to the windshield, but I haven't found a way to attach it to the windshield and have your camera pointed OUT the windshield. I've found you can only attach it so the camera is pointed toward the interior of the car. If anyone knows how to set it up to point your camera out the windshield with 3 suction cups I would really appreciate it.

We use ours with a Panasonic DVX200, which I believe is outside the G-51's rated capacity, so we keep it as close to the car body as possible--while still getting the shot we want--to minimize shake and potential loss of suction on one of the grippers.

I don’t have to worry about the suction cup coming loose or the tape coming free. I have it on both of my vehicles. (on my Subaru Ascent with rear-view mirror – not a back-up camera – the shaft if larger and I had to get a longer set of screws.) The mount comes with a whole bag of adapters so – it is worth it to buy the unit and if one of those many adapters don’t fit – or you can’t adapt your own - return it. It is worth the trouble if it will work because this is the best hanger out there.

If you are attaching the mount on places not moving, then it will get the job done. BUT DON'T USE IT FOR THE CAR. No, because your Canon is a relatively high profile camera - compared to the small, hand-held, dedicated, low profile camcorders. In order to shoot video in the upright position, the mount must be bent into a partial "U" shape. Because your Canon is taller it would likely make contact with the windshield before you could level-out the camera. Google "gopro windshield mount". Thie GoPro is a camera of similar weight and dimensions as your Canon. Look at the pictures of the GoPro mounts. See how much more substantial those mounts are.
