Product description
The Celestron 9x50 Right Angle Correct Image (RACI) Illuminated Finder is a great upgrade to the stock finderscopes found on many Schmidt-Cassegrain telescopes. The 50mm optics produce bright, sharp images with a magnification of 9X and a 5º apparent field of view. Meanwhile, the right-angle, correct-image design keeps objects right-side up and left-to-right correct, making it easier to locate objects as well as track them as they drift through the field of view. The eyepiece module can be rotated left or right so you can find the perfect viewing angle. The double-crosshair reticle etched in the eyepiece makes it easy to center an object, whether you are aligning your computerized telescope or finding deep-sky objects on your own. The reticle can be focused separate from the finder itself. A battery-powered illuminator lights up the crosshair with a soft, red glow, and the illumination can be easily adjusted by turning the on/off knob. The Celestron 9x50 RACI Finder comes with a sturdy bracket consisting of two rings and an integrated dovetail. Adjusting the alignment of the finder is easy with the oversized thumbscrews. The dovetail allows for easy attachment to and removal from most Schmidt-Cassegrain and EdgeHD optical tube assemblies without affecting the alignment of the finderscope.
- Upgrade your finder and stop straining your neck and back!
- This well-built 9x50 finder displays right side up, left-to-right correct views, a great choice for both daytime and nighttime use
- Illuminated double-crosshair reticle doesn’t hide stars
- Includes double ring bracket with integrated dovetail

The best telescope is the one used often to enjoy the beauty and intrigue of the night sky. For those searching for telescopes for astronomy beginners that are infused with the latest computer technology, Celestron’s NexStar 5SE Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescope fits the bill perfectly. The NexStar 5SE Computerized Telescope features Celestron’s iconic “orange tube” design and updated technology with the latest features for amazing stargazing for beginners and experienced observers. Celestron’s signature telescope combines advanced features and excellent optics in one easy-to-use system, the NexStar 5SE. It’s the perfect choice for your first serious telescope, offering striking views at an economical price.
The five-inch primary mirror in this computerized telescope packs enough light-gathering ability to observe the best that our Solar System has to offer, from Saturn’s rings to the cloud bands on Jupiter and geographic features on the surface of the Moon. When it comes to deep sky objects, take your 5SE to a dark-sky site and you’ll see hundreds of pinpoint stars in the Hercules Globular Cluster, the spiral arms of the Whirlpool Galaxy, and more. Featuring a database of more than 40,000 celestial objects, the 5SE’s GoTo mount automatically locates and tracks objects for you. You can also take a Sky Tour and let your telescope show you the best objects currently visible. The single fork arm design and sturdy steel tripod all assemble and break down from separate components for easy transportation. SkyAlign technology gets your telescope aligned and ready to observe in minutes. Even if you’re unfamiliar with the night sky, you can easily align your telescope on any 3 bright objects.
The NexStar 5SE is a telescope that will grow with you as you advance in the hobby of astronomy. It’s compatible with all the high-tech accessories advanced users love. Provide GPS coordinates to your telescope with SkySync, or add automatic alignment functionality with StarSense AutoAlign.
Buy with confidence from the world’s #1 telescope brand, based in California since 1960. You’ll also receive a two-year warranty and unlimited access to technical support from our team of US-based experts.
Celestron's NexStar 5 SE computerized telescope combines excellent optics and easy computerized GoTo tracking in a convenient portable size. The standard equipment tripod and mount feature easy no-tool setup, and the package even includes a student version of "The Sky" planetarium software for your computer.
The excellent optics of Celestron's classic C5 Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope have been updated with premium Starbright XLT optical coatings. This telescope consistently delivers crisp, high contrast views of the moon, the planets, and brighter deep space objects. The standard equipment 25mm plossl eyepiece produces a magnification of 50x, powerful enough to show the rings of Saturn, the cloud bands of Jupiter, and the changing face of the Lunar disk. Optional eyepieces can be added to bring out significantly more detail. I like to use a 12.5mm plossl (100x magnification) or a 7.5mm Ultrascopic eyepiece (166x) for high power views of the planets. With the 7.5mm Ultrascopic eyepiece I can usually see the Cassini Division in Saturn's rings and cloud bands on the planet itself. I like to use a 32mm plossl eyepiece for great low power views of deep space highlights like the Orion Nebula or the Double Cluster in Perseus.
The NexStar 5 SE package also includes a sturdy adjustable tripod, a motorized alt-azimuth mount, and the NexStar hand held computer controller. You won't need a GPS receiver or star charts to operate this telescope. The SkyAlign procedure is easy to use, and experienced observers will like the two-star align and solar-system align options because they are even quicker to set up. The steel tripod and alt-azimuth mount provide a solid base for the NexStar 5 SE. Vibration is not a problem, even while focusing at high power. The computerized tracking is also very good, easily keeping planets in the field of a high power eyepiece. The disadvantage of a computerized telescope, of course, is battery consumption. I like to use a rechargeable Celestron Power Tank because the standard AA alkaline batteries only last a few hours.
This telescope is perfect for visual observing, and allowed me to capture some sweet images of the moon and planets using a Celestron NexImage web-cam. For long exposure deep space photography, however, I'd take a look at Celestron's Advanced Series equatorial telescopes such as the C6 N-GT --Jeff Phillips
Pros:
- Excellent optics
- Light and portable
- Computerized GoTo tracking
- Short battery life
- Too light for deep space photography

User questions & answers
Question: | Does it take a 3/8” or 1/4” screw for the tripod foot? It seems mine only takes. 3/8”. Is there an adapter to take it to |
Answer: | Absolutley ! I mount my Nikon D800 to it all the time. You will need either a Nikon mount or cannon mount . I bought the Nikon attachment from Amazon as well. |
Question: | how is the eye relief on it |
Answer: | It does come with a built in wedge that you can use for equatorial alignment. It's biggest drawback is you have to rotate the whole tube+mount+tripod to adjust the azimuth. I was able to improve on that by taking off the soft leg tips and putting smooth stainless steel drink coasters under the hard leg tips so they can slide while rotating. I also put a drill stop collar on the elevation rod at the correct latitude setting. |
Question: | could magnification be changed to 8-24 or |
Answer: | I am a newcomer to telescopes & I am very pleased to have purchased a 5" Celestron. The bigger ones are heavier & too big to lug around all of the time. If you want a bigger Celestron, they actually work the same as the 5". With it, I got a pretty neat CD with star positions for every day of the year. I have researched the extras you need or might want & came up with the following: Celestron case...It seems expensive, but my Celestron 5" fits perfectly in there plus a lot of extras...very well built. Celestron tripod case...fits my tripod very well...good quality. Celestron GPS...not needed, but is very convenient, especially if you view from different locations...saves you the trouble of re-entering latitude & longitude. Celestron case of assorted lenses & filters...good idea because you will want them sooner or later anyway. Celestron battery pack...used when you are away from electric hookup...I bought the cheaper one...It includes a adapter to plug into your car if you want to use power from there. I didn't need a radio like the more expensive one & seems to be of good quality. I bought a $125.00 solar lens for looking at the sun. You must have a solar lens for sun viewing. You can get cheaper ones. I hope this helps... |
Question: | could a dslr camera be mounted on this scope |
Answer: | Leonardo O - I think that the weight is correct. The reason is not the telescope...but Celestron includes also a sturdy tripod... and the tripod does weigh at least fifteen pounds or so ( my guess ). Also because this is a telescope , Celestron uses quiet a bit of cardboard and packing materials to protect it. |

User questions & answers
Question: | I want to use this for zeroing in at 100 yds....what do u think? Thanks |
Answer: | You get what you pay for with this scope. If you are using Shoot-N-C targets that have the bright indicator color, you can use this out to 200yards. On paper targets I had a little trouble seeing bullet holes at 200yards. This is as far as I have shot with this scope and it was used when sighting in my new rifle. I was able to pick out everything at 100yards. |
Question: | Is this enough scope to see 5.56 and .308 holes in paper at 200 yards |
Answer: | Standard 1/4”. However, if you have one of the newer tripods like a Manfrotto, it also comes with the quick release adapter mounting plate for that so very versatile! |
Question: | can the tripod be switched out for a more sturdier one |
Answer: | The eye relief is good. The major adjustment is getting use to the angle and finding what you are looking for. So far by the time I find the bird I am looking at. It flies away !! I think this will improve as I get use to using the scope. |
Question: | Does any one use this scope at a Shooting range? How good is the magnification at 100 yards, 200 yards, etc |
Answer: | The Celestron 52330 TrailSeeker 65 uses standard interchangeable 1.25" eyepieces. It is delivered with what appears to be the Celestron 93230 8 to 24mm 1.25 Zoom Eyepiece, but is marked as 16x - 48x for convenience. (The eyepiece may be removed by loosening the "lock" ring a couple of turns, then sliding the eyepiece away from the `scope.) If replaced by a Celestron 93325 40mm Omni Eyepiece this would give a fixed 9.6x magnification and a wide field of view. The Meade Instruments 07177-02 Super Plossl 1.25-Inch 40-Millimeter Eyepiece will work also. Note: everything in braces is searchable on Amazon. In an earlier reply, I suggested a Focal Reducer like the inexpensive Solomark Multi-Coated 1.25" 0.5x Focal Reducer placed under the Zoom Eyepiece might give the desired 8x - 24x magnification. I have since found this discouraging post at the Celestron website:http://www.celestron.com/support/knowledgebase/articles/can-a-barlow-lens-be-used-with-my-regal-f-ed-spotting-scope "The Regal series of spotting scopes have removable eyepieces and take 1.25 in barrel-diameter oculars. Even though a 1.25 in Barlow and eyepiece will fit into the scope, the design of the focuser on the Regal scopes does not allow infinity focus when using Barlows." So the standard eyepiece will work as calculated, but a Barlow Lens or Focal Reducer will not. |

User questions & answers
Question: | can this scope be used as a spotting scope for bird watching |
Answer: | Excellent for bird-watching. At 20x, it's fine. At 40x (long distance) you may want a strudier tripod, and because it's daylight, you can look through the smaller 42mm hole (take off the little cap) in the dust cap and that will improve the sharpness at high power. If you want a better spotting scope, simply buy a fancy wide-angle/high-performance 1.25 eyepiece (super-plossl, etc), around 15 mm focal length. |
Question: | You say that any tripod that I use for photography should work. Does that mean that I can screw my tripod head into the telescope |
Answer: | Yes. As others have said, the tripod that comes with the telescope is reallllly flimsy. There are a couple of screw holes on the bottom of the telescope. I was able to attache the telescope to my other tripod using the detachable head on the tripod. |
Question: | I'm a real beginner/plan to purchase this for my son so we can both explore the night sky, etc. Is it really easy to setup?/How long will it take |
Answer: | The scope is really good for beginners and it is easy to set up. As others have said the the included tripod is small for portability and not very stable. If used fully "retracted" on the hood of a car for example, it's OK. I've used it with a Celestron 7.5MM eyepiece and a 2x barlow lens and it can still resolve the rings of Saturn on a clear night. It's not designed for that kind of magnification but for an inexpensive scope with simple lenses I was impressed. I wouldn't recommend trying that though until you have some practice on focus, finding objects in the sky, and purchasing a heavy duty camera tripod. You must remember even with the highest power eyepieces, which you only want to consider using for viewing planets, objects are really small which is due to it's 400mm focal length. Overall it's WAY better than spending 40-50 dollars on a cheap toy at the local discount store. Another good option comparable to this is the Orion 76mm Fun Scope. It's really only for table top use but it's easy to swivel up/down left/right. It is a reflector though and images don't appear as crisp in my opinion. You'll find out that half the quality of a telescope is how good the tripod or mounting set up is. For the price you can't go wrong with this scope. I own several telescopes from computer driven to large reflectors and still grab this for quick views of Orions belt, Jupiter, Saturn, the Moon, and star clusters like the double cluster and the Pleiades. Just to add to an already long answer, I added an inexpensive laser object finder (similar to the Celestron Star Finder) instead of the mostly useless viewfinder. It makes it ten times easier to point the scope at objects you're trying to look at and it doesn't take much modifications to get it screwed to the scope tube or stuck on with foam tape. Your son will thank you! |
Question: | can i see with my left eye |
Answer: | Only if you look at objects on the left....use right eye for objects on the right side....if its straight above you , you can use both eyes. |

Digiscoping is Easy with the Celestron Smartphone Adapter
Share your greatest discoveries with friends and family by pairing the LandScout spotting scope with the included smartphone adapter. This accessory connects any smartphone to the LandScout eyepiece (or any other eyepiece with an outside diameter of 45mm or smaller, such as a binocular or telescope eyepiece).
The eyepiece’s magnification bumps up the image scale, so you can capture stunning images of wildlife, distant objects, and even the Moon at night! This light, rigid smartphone adapter installs in seconds by clamping over the top of the eyepiece. Tightening knobs securely lock your phone in place. Note that some large and/or excessively bulky phone cases (including folio style cases) may need to be removed for the phone to fit in the adapter.
Our Tried-and-True Spotting Scope
The LandScout 80mm spotting scope features a 45° viewing angle, excellent fully multi-coated optics, and a versatile 20-60x zoom eyepiece. The 45° viewing angle provides comfort for extended periods of observing. The LandScout fully coated optics increase LandScout’s light transmission for brighter, sharper images. Finally, the adjustable zoom allows you choose from a wide field of view for general viewing or high power for detailed, up-close viewing. The LandScout 20-60x80mm is perfect for those times you don’t want to carry a larger, heavier scope on your expeditions. Its rugged and portable design makes it easy to transport anywhere.
Perfect for a Variety of Uses
LandScout comes with a 20-60x zoom eyepiece. Use the lower magnifications to scan the landscape, then quickly punch in for up-close views of small subjects when needed. The large, ergonomic focus knob ensures your object is always in clear view. Both the zoom and focus knobs come with a rubber grip for easy adjustments while wearing gloves. LandScout was designed to perform well in a range of viewing situations, making it a great all-around optical instrument.
Ways to Observe
LandScout features a rugged, durable construction to stand up to minor bumps and jolts. The scope is also water resistant, so you can use it confidently in damp or humid conditions. For more comfortable long-duration or long-distance viewing sessions, you can mount the LandScout to the tabletop tripod. The tripod mount rotates, making it easy to find your most comfortable viewing angle.

Product description
The Hummingbird spotting scope shares many qualities with its namesake bird. In the wild, hummingbirds are known for their very small size, their agility (they can fly in most any direction at will), and their ability to travel long distances (many migrate between South and North America). The Celestron Hummingbird is the world’s first “micro” spotting scope well suited for hikers, birders, and other wildlife watchers on the go. Standard spotting scopes tend to be large and/or heavy, making them inconvenient to carry long distances in the field. The Hummingbird will shatter your expectations for how lightweight and compact a spotting scope can be, so you’ll take it places you never thought possible. You can easily hold this spotting scope in one hand, place it in a pocket, or pack it along in your carry-on luggage without compromising space. Although it is small, Hummingbird does not compromise on quality. All air-to-glass surfaces are fully multi-coated with high transmission optical coatings. The result is maximum light transmission for bright, sharp and contrast images. The prism is phase-coated BaK4, which increases contrast and resolution for sharper, more detailed images. The durable body of the Hummingbird works to keep the spotting scope protected against bumps and jolts both during transport and in the field. It’s also fully waterproof and nitrogen-purged, so you can use the scope worry-free in downpours, humid conditions, and other environmental challenges. The Hummingbird 9-27x56 spotting scope features a close focus of 10 feet, making it perfect for viewing birds, butterflies, plants, or other nearby subjects. The magnification of the 9-27x56mm spotting scope spans the standard magnification ranges of both a binocular and a spotting scope. No matter how you choose to observe, this versatile spotting scope is an excellent all-around performer. Unlike most spotting scopes, Hummingbird is so small that you can use it handheld at the lowest magnification level for a quick view of your subject. Travelers who want to save space can replace both their binocular and their spotting scope with this one optic. But the scope is also tripod adaptable, so you can secure it to a stable platform for comfortable long-duration or long-distance viewing. Hummingbird provides plenty of eye relief for use with or without eyeglasses. For use while wearing eyeglasses, leave the twist-up eyecup in the lowered position. For use while not wearing eyeglasses, twist the twist-up eyecup into the extended position.
- World’s first micro spotting scope—fits easily in your vest/coat pocket, cargo pants, or shoulder bag
- 9-27x magnification range
- Comfortable 45° viewing angle and close focus distance of 10 feet
- Tripod adaptable for long-duration or long-distance viewing
- Durable, fully waterproof construction withstands bumps and jolts, wet/humid weather, and other environmental challenges
User questions & answers
Question: | What comes in the box besides the scope |
Answer: | Yes, and after trying a dozen different brands of smartphone attachments for my iPhone Xs, I recommend using the Phone Skope brand smartphone optics adapter as THE best, currently. If you have a dual camera smartphone, you may need to install a camera app that lets you toggle between the standard and telephoto camera, otherwise you might get a "black screen" on your phone. |
Question: | Can you take a picture through the scope |
Answer: | Not real good at 100 yards. Eye relief stinks and tough to pick out target hits even at 100 yds. |
Question: | Is the eyepiece removable and replaceable with a standard 1.25 inch eyepiece |
Answer: | I couldn't see .308 at 100 yard. It is not clear! |
Question: | can u attach one of those cell phone attachments to take pics with your cell phone |
Answer: | Yes, but it is very sturdy in my opinion. The scope uses a standard tripod screw mount. |

The Hummingbird tripod is an excellent choice for those seeking a lightweight yet stable platform for a spotting scope, binocular or camera. With four leg sections, three leg angles and an adjustable center column, the tripod can be set in multiple configurations to get the exact height or stance needed for your terrain and conditions. Use the panning handle and tension knob to scan across the horizon in smooth motions and follow your subject as it moves. The Hummingbird is the perfect tripod for any outdoor excursion from bird watching to stargazing and everything in between. Quick-Release Mounting PlateAttach a wide range of optical and photographic equipment to your Hummingbird tripod in seconds with the quick-release mounting plate. This broad, square platform with protective padding is ideal for attaching binocular adapters, spotting scope mounting feet, camera gear, and more. The mounting plate can adjust forward or backward depending on your preference and to find the perfect weight balance point. To up your viewing game, the platform also tilts up to 90° with a lock knob to secure it in place at any angle. For peace of mind, the quick-release plate has a safety mechanism that prevents it from sliding completely out of the pan head without pushing the release button. Telescoping Center ColumnThe center column of the Hummingbird tripod can be extended to raise the tripod head when additional height is needed. To adjust the center column, twist the lock-knob and move the center column to the desired height. The maximum height when the tripod is fully extended is just under 69”. At the bottom of the center column, there is a ¼ - 20” mounting stud to attach a camera to achieve a unique angle when viewing or imaging. Adjustable Tripod Leg AnglesEach leg of the Hummingbird tripod can be set at two different fixed angles as well as a fully extended position. Each leg has a leg angle adjustment latch, which is located at the top of the tripod leg, that allows you to lay the leg flat on a surface. There is a bubble leveler to ensure the tripod is level at any level and extension. Protective Carrying CaseTake your tripod anywhere in its soft woven case with comfortable shoulder strap. When not in use, the case is the perfect place to store your tripod.
- A stable-yet-lightweight, versatile, and easy-to-use tripod perfect for just about any application
- Smoothly pan the horizon or tilt the viewing angle up and down with two directional adjustments—even flip your optic sideways

- Extendable center column provides even more height when needed
- Includes a specially designed, protective carrying care for storage and transport
User questions & answers
Question: | How tall is it |
Answer: | Nothing other than the scope |
Question: | how tall does it extend to |
Answer: | I don't know of a way to mount a camera to this scope, but it may be possible. I do take photos by holding a camera up to the eyepiece, with very good results. |
Question: | Will this fit a celestron spotting scope without any mounting adapters |
Answer: | I have tried my 1.25 inch Celestron Eyepieces and had mixed success. With the two eyepieces larger than 25 mm I able to get a crisp focus but I had no luck with any one the eyepieces smaller than that. The problem is they fit in the spotting scope but I was unable to get them to focus. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this light enough that it can be used with a 90 degree tripod adapter without toppling over? Will be used from a seated position off to the side |
Answer: | I think you might be pushing it to the limit with a 2X Barlow... at max. zoom, there is already vignettting at the outer edges. I would move on to a bigger scope if you want more magnification, personally. It's a good little scope as it is - pushing it beyond its intended design would be like a Ferrari engine in a VW Bug. |
Question: | Are grey edges on the outsides of the picture normal? I have a very tiny viewing angle where things look good |
Answer: | 173.5 cm |
Question: | Would this be a good starter for a 9yr old boy |
Answer: | Look at the specifications on celestrons website. |
Question: | Will a 2x Barlow lens work acceptably with the adapter and using the original zoom lens? I like the reviews on the Orion model sold on Amazon |
Answer: | This tripod is recommended for the Hummingbird 56mm-class spotting scopes and will work with 60-65mm spotting scopes, but for larger models of spotting scope you will want to consider the larger Celestron Regal tripod. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Our brand new scope sags after tightening the adjustment knobs and the eyepiece set-screw seems stripped. Is this typical |
Answer: | all my optics came with caps. However, some fit very loose |
Question: | What's the zoom this can provide.. Is it 80x with 10mm eyepiece and 2x Barlow lens |
Answer: | Is very light, it will work with 90 degree tripod |
Question: | Does this capture the craters on the moon |
Answer: | This can be an issue at higher magnification. Image unacceptable at 50x and up. |
Question: | Do all optics have lens caps |
Answer: | Personally, I would think he would get more use from a good set of 10x50 or 10x40 binoculars. I enjoy my binoculars more because you use them more being able to observe more sky area. The telescopes get old because you zero in on a particular spot and with the earths rotation, the spot moves while you observe, can be a pain. Hope this helps. |
