User questions & answers

Question: I cannot see thru the telescope even after taking all caps off it is stil blank image
Answer: We are having the same issue. It’s been properly set up but even after allowing it to come to temperatures outside, there is nothing we’re seeing. We’ve adjusted magnification, tried different lens, still blank. And yes, all the caps are off too. I have a curious, yet disappointment kiddo on my hands. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Question: I can’t get the the telescope to lock in place when we find something to look at, how is this done
Answer: You have to use the little knob that looks like a T and also the long handle bar (you turn the handle bar right to tighten and left to loosen. They are both apart of the stand.
Question: Is this user friendly as described ? Since im a beginner is this the right fit for me
Answer: I set it up in 5 minutes. I observed the Moon, Venus and Cassini twin stars (actually quad) with in 30 minutes on 25 mm. I have never owned a telescope in my life. The instructions are pictures describing what part goes where under them. How to set up your phone is a bit of a mess but I understood and decided to address that later. I was too excited to see Venus, and then sad when it looked like a big star, lol. There is another way to set it up to see even closer images, so I’ll be experimenting. I want a bigger one now... lol 😂. I’m managing my expectations on the 3X with 10mm parts. I just want to see it all!
Question: Is this good for photographing an eagle 100 yards away
Answer: As long as the Eagle is stationary, yes. This comes with a 10mm and 25mm eyepiece. I think the 10mm would work.

American Educational 6 Piece Glass Lens Set

American Educational Products

Based on 59 reviews Check latest price

Product description

  • Set of six glass lenses with different curvatures for demonstrating optical principles and effects for students
  • One each of the following lenses: double-convex, plano-convex, double-concave, plano-concave, concavo-convex, and convexo-concave
  • Double-convex, plano-convex, and concavo-convex lenses converge light rays to a point, and convexo-concave lenses diverge light rays from a point
  • Each lens is 50mm in diameter

User questions & answers

Question: Are the focal lengths given
Answer: The first is thickest at the periphery of the lens, the second is thickest at the center, similar to a contact lens.
Question: What is the diference between concavo-convex, and convexo-concave
Answer: I don't know what the focal lengths would be. The lenses came in small bubble bags with no labeling or other information. I went over to the seller's web site at www.amep.com and searched the part number (7-909-14) listed on the Amazon page for the lenses. There is no additional info at that site but I note that they have both a toll free phone number and email address for customer service. Perhaps someone there could tell you.
Question: What are the focal lengths
Answer: None of the lenses are marked, the only way I found of determining the FL is by experimentation, preferably using a light bench if one is available.
Question: What are the focal lengths
Answer: This skeleton is disarticulated. Only one hand and one foot are articulated, i.e. joined together as in they are in a living person. Before the skeleton could be suspended from a stand it would first have to be articulated anatomically by the buyer and that would be quite a chore. If you want an articulated skeleton to hang on a stand make sure you buy one that is already put together. Hope this helps

American Educational 7-1928 Basic Spectrometer, 50A Spectrum Resolution, Includes Glass Prism

American Educational

Based on 7 reviews Check latest price

Product description

  • Goniometer-type basic spectrometer provides hands-on experience observing and measuring light spectra
  • Etched scale with 50A resolution
  • Adjustable collimator tube, telescope, and prism stand
  • Includes glass prism, 600 lines/mm diffraction grating, grating holder, prism hood, and instructions
  • Metal stand provides durability

User questions & answers

Question: What is its wavelength range
Answer: Yes it will, but a small hand-held spectroscope would be an easier and more cost-effective solution
Question: Would this work well for analyzing the various spectra emitted by different light sources, such as LED, florescent, CFL, and traditional light bulbs
Answer: It has a glass prism installed instead of diffraction grating.
Question: Where is the diffraction grating
Answer: Yes it should. I have looked at spectral lines (and therefore absorption lines) of helium gas, neon, gas, various laser outputs, and other light sources. The instrument is made in China and is made with inexpensive optics and adjustments but I found it to be pretty good if you are willing to spend a little time getting used to it and understanding how it is built. I am very pleased with the instument for the price I paid. I hope this helps. -Pat
Question: Will it read the spectrum and show absorption lines in a gemstone
Answer: Unfortunately not in the set I bought. Had to determine approximate focal lengths experimentally in the light lab.

User questions & answers

Question: can this scope be used as a spotting scope for bird watching
Answer: Excellent for bird-watching. At 20x, it's fine. At 40x (long distance) you may want a strudier tripod, and because it's daylight, you can look through the smaller 42mm hole (take off the little cap) in the dust cap and that will improve the sharpness at high power. If you want a better spotting scope, simply buy a fancy wide-angle/high-performance 1.25 eyepiece (super-plossl, etc), around 15 mm focal length.
Question: You say that any tripod that I use for photography should work. Does that mean that I can screw my tripod head into the telescope
Answer: Yes. As others have said, the tripod that comes with the telescope is reallllly flimsy. There are a couple of screw holes on the bottom of the telescope. I was able to attache the telescope to my other tripod using the detachable head on the tripod.
Question: I'm a real beginner/plan to purchase this for my son so we can both explore the night sky, etc. Is it really easy to setup?/How long will it take
Answer: The scope is really good for beginners and it is easy to set up. As others have said the the included tripod is small for portability and not very stable. If used fully "retracted" on the hood of a car for example, it's OK. I've used it with a Celestron 7.5MM eyepiece and a 2x barlow lens and it can still resolve the rings of Saturn on a clear night. It's not designed for that kind of magnification but for an inexpensive scope with simple lenses I was impressed. I wouldn't recommend trying that though until you have some practice on focus, finding objects in the sky, and purchasing a heavy duty camera tripod. You must remember even with the highest power eyepieces, which you only want to consider using for viewing planets, objects are really small which is due to it's 400mm focal length. Overall it's WAY better than spending 40-50 dollars on a cheap toy at the local discount store. Another good option comparable to this is the Orion 76mm Fun Scope. It's really only for table top use but it's easy to swivel up/down left/right. It is a reflector though and images don't appear as crisp in my opinion. You'll find out that half the quality of a telescope is how good the tripod or mounting set up is. For the price you can't go wrong with this scope. I own several telescopes from computer driven to large reflectors and still grab this for quick views of Orions belt, Jupiter, Saturn, the Moon, and star clusters like the double cluster and the Pleiades. Just to add to an already long answer, I added an inexpensive laser object finder (similar to the Celestron Star Finder) instead of the mostly useless viewfinder. It makes it ten times easier to point the scope at objects you're trying to look at and it doesn't take much modifications to get it screwed to the scope tube or stuck on with foam tape. Your son will thank you!
Question: can i see with my left eye
Answer: Only if you look at objects on the left....use right eye for objects on the right side....if its straight above you , you can use both eyes.

User questions & answers

Question: How high is the tripod and is the focuser on the 80 and 90mm metal
Answer: Between the two the 60 is much better, especially for the minimal price difference. The bigger objective means you see dimmer objects and the image will be sharper so you can use a slightly higher max power. More importantly, the 60 comes with a sturdier tripod (less vibration), better mount (easier to get the scope pointed where you want it and to follow objects as they move across the sky), better eyepieces (wider field of view the "circle" you see when you look through looks bigger, like looking through a bigger window and sharper focus), better diagonal (correct images instead of mirror images), and a red dot finder. The 50 isn't a terrible scope (I have a similar Coleman 50 I received as a gift that I put on a better mount to make it more usable), but you physically won't be able to see as many things with it since fainter objects are outside the reach of the scope.
Question: What is the difference between the 50 & the
Answer: Hello John, the hole placed at the center of the dovetail plate is 1/4" x 20 threaded hole. And yes you can remove the dovetail plate as I did with my own and place another dovetail plate of your choice, but remember the other dovetail plate if longer may not align with the two holes drilled into the telescope. The two holes in the telescope are 3 - 5/16" O.C. so you may have to drill another hole and tap it for threads depending on the other dovetail plate you intend to use. What I did was purchased the https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0000XMVKO and the https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0069WCOA2 and was able to attach them to each other and couple the rings onto the scope right where I needed it to be so I could have a properly balanced telescope.
Question: Does the Meade 102mm AZ have a standard 1/4" by 20 threaded hole at the bottom to attach it to a different tripod
Answer: Please ignore Ronald Burchett's answer. He is incorrect. As Sjpp71 says, yes, of course you can see deep sky objects (DSOs), including most of the Messier objects, which Messier himself also observed with a 4-inch achromat. However, Messier was observing in the 18th century, and there was absolutely ZERO light pollution then. You would have to travel far away from civilization to see skies as dark as he experienced. The Crab Nebula (M1) is a difficult object under light-polluted skies. That's because the magnitude that is listed for it, 8.4, is what's called an "integrated" magnitude - as if all the light from the nebula were coming from one star-sized point. Because the nebula is spread out and far larger than a star, that means that its surface brightness is much, much lower. I've tried viewing it from Manhattan with a 5-inch scope and have been completely unsuccessful, as my awful light pollution brightens the sky and washes it out. However, I'd love to travel out into the wilderness and try again!
Question: Can you see beyond the solar system, to say, the crab nebula
Answer: Just Cheap toy for kids. I could not see anything!

Product description

GeoSafari Jr. My First Microscope allows preschoolers to see magnified hidden worlds with ease! This fully functional microscope is the perfect introduction to a real science tool and STEM learning. My First Microscope has a range of magnification (2.5x–8x) designed for toddlers and preschoolers. Magnified views can be challenging for little ones to understand, so by starting with the 2.5x view (with the focusing knob turned as far away from your child as it will go), your preschooler can orient herself to the item she’s viewing, and as she turns the focusing knob towards herself, she can gradually pull away to an 8x view. The wide field of view of these lower magnifications is critical to little ones’ understanding. My First Microscope also features two extra-large eyepieces (no need to close one eye!) and a chunky, kid-sized focusing knob. A bright LED with easy push-button action lights up details for even more discoveries. Requires 3 AAA batteries (not included).

  • INTRODUCTORY SCIENCE TOOL: The perfect first microscope for kids! Preschoolers can see a magnified hidden world with ease, thanks to 2 extra-large eye-pieces and a chunky, kid-sized focusing knob
  • MAGNIFY UP TO 8x: Examine everything from a rock to a piece of pizza with this fully functional microscope! Features 8x magnification and includes LED light for enhanced viewing, non-skid feet, and sample tray. Requires 3 AA batteries (not included)
  • GREAT GIFT FOR BOYS & GIRLS: My First Microscope is a great introductory science toy and makes a great gift for boy and girls 3+
  • AWARD WINNING: Winner of the Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Gold Seal, Parents' Choice Silver Award, and Toy of the Year Finalist
  • AT HOME LEARNING ACTIVITY: Makes a great activity for kids to stay engaged, entertained, and learning outside of the classroom. We are dedicated in providing resources that keep your kids learning and having fun while at home

User questions & answers

Question: Can anyone compare this to the Learning Resources Primary Science Viewscope? I'm looking for my 3 yr old
Answer: It is 8x. A plastic lens, not the best but it won't break if a child drops the scope. This is made for preschoolers, after all. It works fine on small 3-D items...food, small toys, bugs, leaves, flowers, a book or picture, etc. The 8x enlarges a child's finger enough so the print lines are easy to see. The binocular view is very easy for little ones to use. Very few 3 - 6 year olds can use one eye effectively. The next step up in youth microscopes is a monocular one with a 10x to 40x magnification, I think.
Question: What is the magnification on this microscope? (10x? 20x
Answer: This microscope is perfect for a 4-year old. Children can put all sorts of items under the microscope and see interesting details. Ask your child to look at a toy, the tip of a pen or pencil and the detail on a rock and a leaf. Look at the back of a penny (dated between 1959-2008) and challenge your 4-year old to find Lincoln sitting inside the Memorial! We chose to give this microscope 8x magnification for a very good reason: the relatively low magnification is particularly good for preschool/early elementary school age children because it gives a wide field of view which is easier for a young child to understand. Another important age-appropriate feature is that the two-eye viewing is especially good for this age group.
Question: Can you tell me what kind of detail you can see with the 8 time magnification? Wondering if it's enough for 4 year old
Answer: This item is designed to give kids a feel for what a microscope does. It's a little more powerful than most children's magnifying glasses. It also gives children the experience of focusing with focusing knobs. Further, it has a light for helping to illuminate details. This is a great way to begin talking to young children about the fact that things exist that you cannot ordinarily see and that tools like a microscope allow people to view small items and details.
Question: Is this significantly different than getting your child a magnifying glass
Answer: There is a focuser on all of them. I have the 102 which has a 2" with an adapter for 1 1/4. Meade assures me that this scope will take 2" eyepieces and a 2" diagonal. Be aware though that This scope only has a 4" Vixen dovetail and is hard to balance if you use an EQ mount.

User questions & answers

Question: Can you attach this telescope to a higher tripod
Answer: Better eyepieces,10mm and 25mm,so great.
Question: What eyepieces does it come with
Answer: Thank you for question! Over 3 years old child who can use this kids telescope, tailored for kids, best gift!
Question: What age child is this appropriate for
Answer: Sure. We used it traveling to Costa Rica to watch birds/monkeys etc.
Question: Can this be used for viewing wildlife also
Answer: I bought the Educational Insights My First Microscope for my inquisitive 3 yr old grandson as a Christmas gift. It was a big hit. It was colorful and very user friendly. One feature I appreciated was the large area for viewing which would accommodate larger objects. In comparing the one you mentioned to this one, I noticed that the Learning Resources has a 20x magnification while this one only has 8x. Also, the Learning resources one has a removable viewer, which is a nice feature. This one costs $14.99 and is made in the USA which was a plus for me. I hope this info helps you made a more informed decision based on your preferences.
