Question: | What are the pixels? Do you have to have a computer to take the pictures |
Answer: | I don't know what the pixel sizes are, but we hooked the AmScope up to our laptop computer and could easily see the images under the microscope. It certainly makes a 4 and 7 year old more interested when they can see the images on computer screen rather than by looking through small lense. |
Question: | I tried to install to mac osx and it stated that the microsoft software is incompatible with mac os. now what? the installation dvd states mac os |
Answer: | This was a gift for someone else for Christmas. So don’t know anything about this. |

User questions & answers
Question: | does this take coin pictures |
Answer: | I have not tried this. but if you have a sharp focused light coming in at an angle, I don't see why not. My instinct is to just use the built in light and find the coin angle you find which works best for showing the key features you wish to show. Basically, experiment. |
Question: | can we use this camera on telescope with the relevant holders |
Answer: | I don't know. It fits in the eyepiece of the microscope. If the telescope has a similar eyepiece ( removable) then it might work. This camera is not extemely sensitive for low light conditions so I don't know if you will find it useful. Good luck |
Question: | Does the software support TWAIN |
Answer: | The included ToupView software does appear to support TWAIN. There are menu options to select a TWAIN device, though this camera doesn't show up on that device list when I run it (unless it's not on the list b/c it's already selected?).Google "toupview" and you'll find some pdf guides (e.g. one from Cal Tech website). |
Question: | Does this work with USB 3.0? I've read some reviews that says it doesn't but have a hard time believing this |
Answer: | I had an issue with USB 3.0 freezing during capture and skipping frames. I was told by AmScope it's because of the free software and not to expect much better. Wrong answer, play again. After further research filling the online suggestions to increase frame rate I discovered the tablet I was using was USB 3.0 but only provided about 200mA of power. The camera was freezing and skipping because it was under powered. After a cheap $30 USB 3.0 hub that provided 750mA per port the camera now works good with high frame rate at medium resolution for video capture. Somifmyiur having problems then your USB port may be under powered. A simple cheap powered USB hub will solve this. The camera needs at least 500mA / 0.5A to run properly. I wish a scopes support knew this and it didn't take me a month to figure out the issue. I even bought a Microsoft surface pro 4 thinking my original Asus tablet was under spec. So I bought a computer I didn't need and waisted money. Now if I try the Asus tablet with the powered hub it works. Lesson learned, don't believe support all the time no matter how confident they sound in the answer or sound like they know what they are talking about. I usually don't even bother with support since I know more then most reading scripts, but AmScope was very informative in helping pick out the correct microscope, they just don't know everything about the camera they sell I guess. |

User questions & answers
Question: | works with small insects |
Answer: | The field on this microscope in bottom lit. So you can see anything that the light can shine through. It will also illuminate small insects, their wings, legs etc. Quite alot of the body of the insects are translucent, so you can see inside the bodies etc. I have also looked at blood samples (my own) and it shows the blood cells, and white cells and other scary little critters swimming around in there. I had a microsocpe i gave to my grandaughter that also had a light that shinned from above. This would be nice to have on this one, but does not. with a top light you could look at objects that the light will not shine through. I especially like the camera/computer hookup. I hook it to a 32 inch tv and it gives a great picture of the object and you can take moving videos of little critters, like in pond water, or even small blood samples. the camera and software came with the scope i bought. this scope has four lenses. i use the lowest and next highest the most. that is the .4 and the 10 (which are then magnified by the optical by which ever lens you put in. this scope came with two options. The third lens is a 40, i have a little trouble focusing with this one, you have to get really close to the object, so make sure you use a cover on the slide over the object so you don't get stuff on the lens. And the fourth lens is oil emersion, a small bottle of oil comes with the scope. I think if i where doing it again i would try to find one that is both bottom and top lit. Not sure how that effects the price. Over all very happy with the quality of the scope, I would give it a 9.5 on a scale of 10. Have fun. |
Question: | Will this work on any computer? Like windows 10 for example |
Answer: | I have got this to work on win vista, win 7, Ubuntu, Ubuntu Studio, Linux mint, and Androidx86. |
Question: | what kind of bacteria can you see with this? can you see DNA/RNA strands |
Answer: | see bacteria,but cann't watch DNA/RNA |
Question: | can i view gemstones on this microscope |
Answer: | No, you cannot use this microscope to view gemstones, or any solid object (at least not in a way that will be useful). There are two main types of microscope - compound, and stereo. A compound microscope, like the AmScope B120C-E1, is designed to look at translucent samples - drops of pond water, thin slices of tissue, and so on. Light is shined up through the sample and into the eyepiece, allowing you to see the cells/organisms in the sample. For viewing solid objects, you need a stereo microscope such as the AmScope SE400 (http://www.amazon.com/AmScope-SE400-Z-Widefield-Inspection-Microscope/dp/B005C75IVM). These microscopes are more like magnifying glasses on steroids, and use reflected light to illuminate the top of whatever you're viewing. If you want to examine gems, coins, circuit boards, insects, etc., go with a stereo microscope. Note that a "binocular" microscope just means the 'scope has two eyepieces - it does not imply "stereo" or "compound". |

User questions & answers
Question: | Are the 3 supplied rechargable AA batteries being recharged when the microscope is getting power from wall current |
Answer: | Yes. Certainly if the light is turned off the batteries will recharge. If the light is on, it will take longer for the batteries to recharge. |
Question: | What is the highest power camera I can use with this? 1mp, 3mp? Could you provide a link to a compatible camera |
Answer: | You can use any camera you want to, power of camera is independent of scope lenses. You should be able to find the digital camera they recommend model number MU300, Amscope digital camera. That model number is 3mp, I think. I had trouble using the digital camera with my scope, however, and ended up purchasing a scope that has the digital camera attachment as a separate tube, apart from the eyepiece. I got the scope on ebay for a little under 500 and it is AMAZING, with a zoom feature, and magnification up to 90x, which gives absolutely stunning views. However, I love these little scopes and have purchased 8 of them for my classroom. These little scopes are worth every penny I spent. I love them. |
Question: | Max of 80X magnification doesn't seem very high compared to some others at 1000X. Any explanation, thoughts, advantages of this low magnification |
Answer: | You are confusing a compound microscope ( 1000x) with this stereo microscope. |
Question: | How do you change the two objective lenses? Are they on a rotating dial or do you have to stop work and screw one out and screw the other one in |
Answer: | Can rotate to change between 2x and 4x, but have to unscrew and change the eyepieces for 10x or 20x changes. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does it work in NIkon D4s |
Answer: | It does indeed |
Question: | Does this work with full-frame Nikon cameras like the D610? All the cameras in the answered questions use APS-C sensors, not full frame (36x24mm |
Answer: | Yes, I'm using it with a D700. However, the aspect ratio of the scope is 1:1 (actually it's a circle), where the camera is 3:2 so the left and right sides will have black area. But you will get the full height. It will not deliver images to which you are accustomed using a Nikon lens, be prepared for that. There is no aperture, which normally passes only light from the in-focus portion of the image, so, you'll get the best quality at the highest magnification. |
Question: | Works with D3300? Does it has C-mount too or only occular |
Answer: | There are two pieces. The actual adapter is a T-mount, and probably the same one used for Canon, Nikon, etc. Then there is a camera specific T-mount adapter ring. There are also adapter collars in case the eye/camera port on the scope is larger. It should work with any Nikon body that is Manual lens capable. The D3300 is a DX body so it will only capture the center of the visual field. They call this 2x magnification, but what it's really doing is cropping. |
Question: | Why is this so much more than a few of the others, what is the difference |
Answer: | This is actually a lens with internal optics. Simple adapters are much cheaper, but will not usually effectively fill frame and require some cropping and image loss. |

Question: | Can you see dust mites with scope wf10x eyepieces, 20x and 40x magnification, 2x and 4x objectives |
Answer: | I've never seen dust mites with these. I have put pillowcases under them to try to find them, but not found any. I think most dust mite species are so small you need at least 100x if not 400x. |
