User questions & answers
Question: | does this mic record stereo sound or just mono? and does it let the onboard mic record as well or not |
Answer: | The microphone is a dual mono microphone and thus not stereo, unless you get into the very expensive stereo microphones I think you'll be pleased with the frequency response and quality. Once plugged in, the on-board microphone is cancelled out. |
Question: | Can you attach this to a boom pole |
Answer: | I believe rode sells a boom pole for this mic. You will need an extension cable as well to plug it in. |
Question: | Does this work with Canon 70d? Thanks |
Answer: | Yes it does I have the rode mic pro lyre version and it works perfectly I will say if you can afford the pro get it it cause this relies on the power of the camera so the sound isn't as good as the pro |
Question: | Should I get a used Rode Video Mic Shotgun Microphone or The rode Videomic go? assume I can't go far over 100$ in budget |
Answer: | Best qualities of the Videomic Go: Small, no battery (powered from the camera), easy to transport. Best qualities of the Rode Videomic over the Videomic Go: Battery powered (better range), high pass filter, PAD switch (for reducing sensitivity on louder recordings). Not having a battery can be nice (using the GO), but the camera you use has to be able to power over the 1/8" mic input. The high pass filter and PAD switch are nice on the Videomic, but not always necessary. If you don't think you'll need them, then the Videomic GO is the way to go. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this microphone eliminate the autofocus sound of a USM lens |
Answer: | Yes being isolated from the camera it wont pick up that sound like the cameras internal speaker would. |
Question: | Will this connect to the Sony a |
Answer: | No, the Sony A6000 does not have a mic jack. You would be better off purchasing the Sony ECM-XYST1M Stereo Microphone which actually provides just as good if not better recording capability. I own both and can testify to this. |
Question: | In what ways is the rode video mic pro different then the video mic pro plus? i will be using it on a mirrorless lumix dmc-g85. please help |
Answer: | The Pro Plus is a new and improved version of the popular VideoMic Pro. It looks similar from the outside (although, the pro is quite a bit smaller), but has some much-needed upgrades like automatic power switching. The Pro Plus will turn on when plugged into the camera or switch itself off when unplugged. |
Question: | What is the distance range of this mic |
Answer: | Not exactly sure what the range would be, but can stand 10-15 feet away and the audio is just fine. |

Question: | Does it work with a panasonic hc-v |
Answer: | Sorry, panasonic hc-v770 does not seem to have microphone interface, can not connect our microphone,so it is not compatible. VC MALL |
Question: | Does it work with a windows pc? (using 3.5mm microphone input |
Answer: | Yes it will by May I suggest a very HELPFUL PIECE OF ADVICE. These mics are designed for a purpose, shooting sound on a DSLR, and that usually means adjusting in post production. If you are all set and going to do that fine. If NOT, I may suggest an inexpensive preamp. It offers volume in dials at the point of sound input, you can adjust at will. True HDSLR shooters use high end separate recording devices by Tascam etc. I Do. But I found the Hammer and Anvil both 2 mono or 1 stereo,( this case), inputs, a M/S switch on front and semper are L R volume knobs, all you need is a 3.5 Stereo line,( I believe is included ), into the pc. The Comica Mounts to the preamp, and it mount to either a hotshoe, coldshoe stand, or adapter, or 1/4-20 std bolt. I got one for my nephew for $18.99, the identical Tascam version was $49, food for thought. Hope it helps. |
Question: | Does this work with smartphones |
Answer: | Yes it works, but you should buy adapter to work together. For adapter , it depends on your smartphone's audio jack type... VC MALL |

Product description
The VideoMic with Rycote Lyre Suspension System from Rode is a shotgun microphone that can easily be mounted on a DSLR camera. It features a Rycote suspension system that attaches to the camera's shoe. The VideoMic is lightweight, and when mounting on a camera it does not appear in the frame. The VideoMic can also mount to Rode's boompoles for elevated audio capture. Its super-cardioid polar pattern attenuates sounds from the sides. The result is a signal that sounds closer to the camera, even when shooting in noisy environments or at moderate distances.
The included Rycote Lyre is a non-elasticated suspension structure composed of a hard-wearing thermoplastic. It is more effective at acoustically decoupling microphones from unwanted vibrations, handling and cable-borne noise than elasticated suspensions. The lyre remains effective at a wide range of temperatures and is virtually indestructible. It will never wear out, sag, snap or require any rethreading to maintain its effectiveness.
An attached, coiled cable terminates to a 1/8" (3.5mm) mini output connection. The VideoMic features a condenser element that utilizes a standard 9 Volt battery (sold separately). The microphone will run for approximately 100 hours on a single battery.
In the box:

User questions & answers
Question: | Does it work with Android phone (specifically google pixel). What cable do i need to connect to pixel 2 and 3. Pixel 2 does not have audio jack |
Answer: | yes |
Question: | Does it come with the fur windshield |
Answer: | Although it "could" be used in your trailer, I wouldn't recommend it. These batteries are starter batteries and do not have a lot of capacity. You also need to make sure that the charging system is safe for a lithium battery. Please feel free to contact us to discuss this further (484)652-8010 Thank you, Billet Proof Designs |
Question: | Will this work with other Smartphones besides Apple products |
Answer: | I have started to have the same issue. Don't know the answer. |
Question: | Does this come with the charger |
Answer: | Contrary to what the first answer said, you can charge this battery from 12V. I have the adapter to charge it from a car and it works well. The 110V charger that comes with the battery outputs 13.5V at 6.5A. That's 90W. It charges the battery in about 4 hours. If you can get a solar panel or panels that would output 13.5V, it should work. But the less amperage you have available, the longer it will take to charge the battery. Disclaimer: I haven't tried to do this. YMMV And, BTW, the battery I have has worked well for me. |

Answer: | I cannot verify , if the pentax k7 has a 3.5 mm jack, it should work. Maybe verify if the camera works with another 4.5 mm audio mic and if so then this should work. So many cameras, hopefully someone has run into this. Livelifeloud Cheers and Cheeks Out 🛒🕺🏻🇨🇦 |
