13 best nikon lens filters
Nikon lens filters are accessories designed to enhance the performance of Nikon camera lenses. They serve various purposes, including protection, image quality improvement, and creative effects. Here is some information about Nikon lens filters:
Skylight/UV Filters: Skylight and UV filters are transparent filters primarily used to protect the front element of the lens from dust, moisture, and scratches. They also help reduce the effects of ultraviolet (UV) light, which can cause a bluish cast in outdoor photographs. Nikon offers a range of UV and Skylight filters for different lens diameters.
Filter Accessories: Nikon provides a variety of filter accessories to complement their lens filter offerings. These include filter holders, step-up and step-down rings to adapt filters to different lens diameters, and filter wrenches to aid in easy filter removal.
Image Quality Filters: Nikon also manufactures filters specifically designed to improve image quality. For example, they offer Circular Polarizing Filters, which reduce glare and reflections from non-metallic surfaces like water or glass. Neutral Density (ND) filters reduce the amount of light entering the lens, allowing for longer exposure times and creative effects like smooth water in long-exposure shots.
Color Correction Filters: Nikon produces color correction filters that can be used for various purposes, such as balancing color temperature and reducing color casts. For example, warming or cooling filters can help adjust the white balance in specific lighting conditions.
Special Effects Filters: Nikon offers special effects filters for creative photography. These include soft-focus filters for creating dreamy or soft-focus effects, starburst filters for adding a star-like twinkle to bright points of light, and graduated neutral density filters for controlling exposure in specific areas of the frame.
Filter Material and Coatings: Nikon filters are typically made from high-quality optical glass, ensuring minimal impact on image quality. They often feature multi-coatings to reduce reflections, lens flare, and ghosting.
Compatibility: Nikon lens filters are designed to be compatible with Nikon lenses, but they can also be used with other brands that have the same filter thread size. It's essential to match the filter diameter to the lens's filter thread size for proper fit.
Maintenance: Nikon lens filters should be handled with care to avoid scratches and smudges. They can be cleaned using a microfiber cloth or lens cleaning solution to maintain their optical quality.
Nikon lens filters are valuable accessories for photographers, allowing them to protect their lenses, enhance image quality, and experiment with creative effects. It's important to choose the right filter for your specific photography needs and lens specifications.

Question: | What is the mount ring make of? aluminum or brass |
Answer: | I'm not sure what metal it's made of. However, it appears to be sturdy. I use it to protect it from element of my lens. |
Question: | does this fit 10-20mm lenses |
Answer: | The best way to determine is to look up the lens you are interested in. For Nikkor Lenses go to Nikon's website, click on lenses, then shop all, find your lens, and go to it's page. If you click on tech specs and look in the specifications for the "Filter Size" it will tell you. Alternatively you can search for the lens. It's always best to make sure of these things yourself. If you meant the AF-P DX NIKKOR 10-20mm f/4.5-5.6G VR on their site it does say 72mm, but always best to make sure. |

User questions & answers
Question: | when shooting at 1:1 does the built in flash get blocked by the lens |
Answer: | If you do not use the lens hood it shouldn't be a problem. If you do,you should use an exterior flash. I use an SB800 but that's personal preference. While the built in flash is handy it makes the photos' seem flat. However at times its better than the alternative |
Question: | is this lens make in china or Japan |
Answer: | Used to be made in Japan now made in China. Best to get a old one off of eBay if you want a Japanese made one. That is what I did |
Question: | Is this lens good for taking portraits? Is there a difference between taking portraits with macro and a dedicated 105mm lens |
Answer: | Hi Chandana,I own the 85mm 1.8G and 105mm 2.8G Macro for different purposes. The 105mm 2.8G is a great lens for product photography and for some portraits however for portrait shots, I shy away just because it is too sharp. From my perspective, the image is crisp but it does not look natural in my eyes. It looks somewhat Artificial just because it is optimized for close up macro. Thats why I use the 85mm instead which looks really natural. This will really depend on the person. People have different perspective. hope it helps :) |
Question: | Does this maintain it's 2.8 across magnification range |
Answer: | Before you read the data spec answers, consider that Macro is not the same as your normal understanding of a 2.8 aperture. The challenge with this lens is actually that the DOF is SO RAZOR THIN that it's hard to get anything in focus...even at F11 (yes, eleven!!). It's totally different than what you think of a standard lens at F/1.4... when you're shooting objects that are just 6 inches away from the front of this lens, the maximum F4.0 aperture is almost impossible to use without getting a blurry photo...it is so thin that you will be frustrated getting focus right just because you can't stop your own heartbeat from slightly moving your body forward/backward, or worse if the wind even barely blows to move something out of the RAZOR THIN DOF. I shoot this lens at F8 when I want to completely blur everything behind the subject and F16 when I want to ensure tricky situations (wind, I'm reach and it's hard to hold myself still) get AT LEAST SOMETHING in focus. It's not the same as a what you're used to with a standard DOF...that's not an insult, it's an education. I personally did not know this and found shooting macro to be VERY challenging to get anything actually IN FOCUS at even F11. Hope that's helpful, now read on as everyone gives you data specs below... |

Your DSLR’s Best Friend
A must-have for standard portraits and everyday use, the AF-S NIKKOR 105mm f/2.8G is a VR (Vibration Reduction) lens that will absolutely surprise you. The 105mm focal length with a fast f/2.8 aperture allows you to capture stunning images with a shallow depth-of-field, letting your subjects stand out from their backgrounds. The AF-S NIKKOR 105mm f/2.8G may soon become your new favorite lens.
Brilliance In Any Light Get Astonishing Low Light Results
This lightweight standard lens is a great travel companion because you never know when a beautiful, sunny day will turn cloudy and rainy. With its fast f/2.8 aperture, the AF-S NIKKOR 105mm f/2.8G will capture even low-light situations with stunning brilliance.
Beautiful Background Blur Achieve More Natural Depth Of Field
Whether you're shooting portraits, food or nature—indoors or outdoors—the AF-S NIKKOR 105mm f/2.8G VR (Vibration Reduction) lens renders a beautiful, natural background blur (Bokeh) at its wider aperture settings. And its 105mm focal length is perfect for creating natural perspective in your photographs.
Capture Every Detail Shoot Tack-Sharp Portraits Every Time
Nikon's Super Integrated Coating (SIC) enhances light transmission efficiency and offers superior color consistency and reduced flare, while the AF-S NIKKOR 105mm f/2.8G's Aspherical Lens Element (AS) virtually eliminates coma and other types of aberrations, even when shooting at the widest available aperture. Pair that with Nikon's Silent Wave Motor (SWM) for fast, accurate and quiet autofocus, and you can be sure all of your portraits will be tack sharp.
Silent Wave Motor
AF-S NIKKOR lenses feature Nikon’s Silent Wave Motor (SWM). This technology converts 'traveling waves' into rotational energy to focus the optics. This enables high-speed autofocusing that's extremely accurate and super quiet.
M/A
Select NIKKOR lenses have a focusing mode which allows switching from automatic to manual focusing with virtually no lag time by simply turning the focusing ring on the lens. This makes it possible to seamlessly switch to fine manual focusing while looking through the viewfinder.
Aspherical Lens
A lens with a curved, non-spherical surface. Used to reduce aberrations and enable a more compact lens size. Aspherical lenses minimize coma and other types of lens aberrations, even when used at the widest aperture. They are particularly useful in correcting distortion in wide-angle lenses and help contribute to a lighter, more compact design by reducing the number of standard (spherical) elements necessary. Aspherical lens elements correct these distortions by continuously changing the refractive index from the center of the lens.
Super Integrated Coating
Nikon Super Integrated Coating is Nikon's term for its multilayer coating of the optical elements in NIKKOR lenses.

User questions & answers
Question: | will my lens hood still fit with this filter on |
Answer: | I think it will. If your lens hood screws on, you should be able to tread it on to this filter. The filter has threads on it, just like your lens. If your lens hood slips on around the lens, it should still work, because the filter is the same diameter as the lens, and doesn't stick out so it is wider than the lens, so your hood should slip over it. I used to use collapsible rubber hoods with filters all the time with no problem. |
Question: | Does the filter fit a Coolpix b |
Answer: | no |
Question: | Is the UV filter made of glass or plastic? Is the threaded ring metal or plastic |
Answer: | I am fairly confident that my filters- I ordered 2- are glass. The ring is definitely metal. I am impressed by both the quality and the price. |
Question: | Hi, with this filter on, will I still be able to cover my lens with my lens cover |
Answer: | Oops. I have a 52mm andy lens cap fits. |

Question: | So the storage pouch will only hold ten of the filters at once? Where are you supposed to store the other 14 or protect them in the field |
Answer: | 11.25 x 13 |
Question: | Will this work on a 40.5 lens |
Answer: | I think that the amount that the paper would absorb is so small that it is insignificant compared to the ease of cleanup. As to being wasteful, I spread the grounds outside to deter ants and around plants and then put the filter in the recycling bin. |
Question: | Are these 4x4 inch in size |
Answer: | yes, the felt filter is still used, but the coffee goes into the paper bag. It makes for incredibly easy clean up and great tasting filtered coffee. |
Question: | Can this product be used with the Sony A |
Answer: | Obviously that is not the intended use of the product and would probably require FDA certicication. I would, however, not have a problem using them in the kitchen for food I would consume. Hope that helps. |

In the days of film the value of placing a UV filter in front of your lens was never questioned. In addition to dampening the image-robbing effects of atmospheric ultraviolet radiation, UV filters also served to protect the front element of your lens from dust and moisture. They also repelled the inevitable smudges and scratches that over time compromise the effectiveness of the anti-reflective coatings that go into determining how well (or not so well) your pictures turn out. Fast-forward to the modern days of digital imaging and the big argument is: “do we still need UV filters?” The answer is an unqualified “Yes.”
Despite the fact that digital imaging sensors are nowhere near as sensitive to UV radiation as film, the protective properties of a UV filter on your lens are still quite justified. Regardless of how the image is being recorded, the probability of dust, moisture, smudges and scratches finding their image-compromising way onto your front lens element is equally inevitable and troublesome.
What is UV (ultraviolet) light?
The visual spectrum—the light we see with our eyes—consists of the colors red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. Mix them together and you get “white” light. The electromagnetic wavelengths of light are measured in terms of nanometers (nm), with the visual spectrum residing in the 390 to 750nm portion of the electromagnetic bandwidth. Just below the red end of the visual spectrum is infrared (approx 750nm to 1mm) and ultraviolet light resides just above the blue end of the visual spectrum (approx 10nm to 390nm). While we cannot see UV light, it nonetheless impacts the visual quality of the pictures we take.

User questions & answers
Question: | It says will fit D3500, but the description does not. Yes or no |
Answer: | The fit is based on the filter size and not a specific camera. The D3500 standard lenses take 55mm and 58mm filters. These will fit the D3500. |
Question: | Will the stock lenz cap still fit on these covers |
Answer: | My lens caps fit over these. |
Question: | Will this fit the lens for the Nikon d3500 camera with 18 to 55 mm lens and 70-300 mm lens |
Answer: | It fit my lens for a D3400 with 18 to 55mm and 70 to 300mm lens, and I am sure the lenses interchange. |
Question: | Will this fit the nikon d7500 with two lenses (18-55 and 70-300) found at costco |
Answer: | Yes. The size of the filter has to do with the lens; not the camera. As long as the lens fits your camera, it will say what size it is (55 or 58) and that size filter will fit it regardless of the camera model. |

Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 24-120mm f/4G ED VR Lens Overview
Possibly the single most versatile lens, the AF-S NIKKOR 24-120mm f/4G ED VR from Nikon spans a useful wide-angle to short-telephoto range and features a constant f/4 maximum aperture for consistent performance throughout the zoom range. Three aspherical elements and two extra-low dispersion elements are used to greatly reduce spherical and chromatic aberrations in order to produce a high degree of sharpness and clarity. Also benefitting image quality, both a Nano Crystal Coat and a Super Integrated Coating have been applied to control flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color accuracy. Supporting the optics is VR II image stabilization, which compensates for camera shake to help realize sharp imagery when shooting handheld. A Silent Wave Motor is also used to provide fast and precise autofocus performance, along with full-time manual focus override.

Ideal for close-up shots, copy work, and general photography, the Nikon 60mm f/2.8G ED AF-S lens is optimized for edge-to-edge sharpness on both Nikon FX format and DX format image sensors. The lens is equipped with an exclusive Silent Wave Motor (SWM) that enables accurate, quiet, high-speed autofocus operation. The lens's pair of aspherical elements, meanwhile, virtually eliminate coma and other types of aberration even at the widest aperture. Add in an extra-low-dispersion (ED) glass element--which effectively minimizes chromatic aberration--and your photos will enjoy superior sharpness and color correction regardless of the subject. Other details include an internal focusing (IF) design that enables the use of polarizers and speed-light systems; a Nano Crystal Coat that virtually eliminates reflections across a wide range of wavelengths for even greater image integrity; a Super Integrated Coating (SIC) that substantially reduces ghosting and flare; a rounded nine-blade diaphragm that makes out-of-focus image elements appear more natural; and a M/A focus mode that allows you to quickly transition between autofocus and manual operation.

User questions & answers
Question: | I have a nikkor 50 mm f1.8 lens. Will my lens cap still work with the filter? How do I know if the lens (which is on its way) has threads or not |
Answer: | It depends on the model of the lens. For example, Nikkor AF-S 50mm f/1.8 G uses 58mm filters; Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 AF-D. uses 52mm filters. As long as you know the exact model you’ve bought, just go to Nikon.com and search for the filter thread diameter or google the exact model of your lens followed by “specs”. |
Question: | Does this filter fit the nikon D |
Answer: | D5600 is a camera , not a lens. What lens are you planning to use? |
Question: | I'd like to use a Cokin filter adapter ring (for use with a filter holder and Singh Ray filters) to the front; are there front threads to allow this |
Answer: | Every Nikon filter that I have ever owned had front threads. This particular one does, too. Hope this helps. |
Question: | will this filter fit my Nikon P520 lens |
Answer: | There are a couple ways to tell whether the filter will fit the lens. First, make sure there is threading on the end of the lens to allow a filter to be screwed in. Second, check along the body of the lens looking for its details. Most lenses depict the diameter of the lens with a circle with a line through it. This will give you the diameter in mm. Another way of telling is on the underside of the lens cap. It will normally depict the size of the lens it will fit onto.Hope this helps. |
