User questions & answers
Question: | I lost the sensor control. So there is only two plugs working. What should I do |
Answer: | Hi Christine, please give our Customer Service Dept. a call at 616-554-3576 (M-F 9am-5pm EST) and you can arrange to purchase a replacement sensor. Thanks, The TrickleStar Customer Service Team. |
Question: | I bought 3 tricklestar outlets. How do I get the switched outlets to work? What am I doing wrong |
Answer: | I have my desktop plugged in to the control and the monitor and a happy light plugged in to the switched. At first when my desktop would turn on my switched outlets kept turning on and off. I did a lot of reading before actually buying this thing, and I remember reading somewhere that the suggested level for the switch when using a desktop is high. But, the problem is that some things are now more power efficient. So, if your things in the switched outlets keep turning on and off then bump your switch down a notch to medium or even low. I believe High handles up to 42 watts, Medium handles up to 22 watts, and Low handles up to 10 watts. So, if you have it on the High setting that means that the switched outlets will only turn on when your computer uses up to 42 watts. In my situation, my desktop must be teatering between a little more than 42 watts and a little less than 42 watts because everything kept turning on and off. I bumped the switch to Medium and now everything is fine. No more turning on and off. |
Question: | Does the control switch still do vampire draw |
Answer: | If the control outlet has something plugged in that is always on, then yes it will draw power. For example, a tv that when off, is still on with a vampire draw of power to retain its settings. Use the control outlet for a device that you turn off and on, such as a tv, and use the switched outlets for devices, such as a sound bar, that only need to be on when you turn on the control device, the tv.Some of today's modern devices are designed to draw power even when off. Sucks, but the only way to avoid that is to unplug the device. |
Question: | Could you please exlpain the the adjustable threshold switch? the instuctions are vague |
Answer: | The switch has three positions. This unit will detect how much current is been used on the control outlet. If it is none, the relay will cut off power to the controlled outlets. If for example, a TV set is connected to the control outlet, when this TV is turn on, the unit will detect consumption , activate the relay and power will be available on the controlled outlets.However. some TV's will not turn off completely off but go to a standby mode and will consume a little current. This switch can be adjusted so this small consumption can be ignored and the controlled outputs still will remain off. What this switch do is to determine how much current should be ignored. It will set a threshold (low, medium, high) that the user will adjust as needed for the amount his TV will consume in standby mode. Anything over that will turn the relay on and it will be power in the controlled outlets. |

Question: | How much power (or current) can the 'Control' outlet provide |
Answer: | Hi Barry - the threshold switch on side determines the minimum wattage necessary through the control outlet to activate the switched outlets. Laptops are tricky as control devices. Their wattage varies depending on whether using external monitor & state of battery. My MacBook Pro pulls 6-8 watts during the workday and that isn't enough wattage. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How long is the power cord |
Answer: | This unit is a 120 VAC. There are some international 230v TrickleStar products. But a 220 VAC is like for a laundry dryer or electric oven. This unit is for a normal electrical outlet. ELECTRICAL SPECIFICATIONS FOR INDOOR USE Voltage 120 VAC +/- 10%, 60 Hz Power Rating 15 A Surge Protection 72,000 Amps/1,080 Joules Noise Filtering <40 dB Standby Power Consumption |
Question: | How quickly does outlet power on once TV is turned on (without a remote |
Answer: | Yes. There is about a 1 second delay |
Question: | Does this kill phantom energy, or just turn the TV off if forgotten |
Answer: | Sorry to hear you are having issues. The green plugs will only have power when there is a device in the outlet labeled control that the power strip senses to be on (by the amount of power being drawn through the control outlet). Ideally, the device in the control outlet is the main device and the green outlets would be peripherals for the control device. This Advanced Power Strip is designed to save energy in a Television or Computer setup as both those main devices tend to have a number of peripherals. |
Question: | Can this work on 12000 btu air conditioner to slave fans |
Answer: | There is a three position switch that sets the threshold. From the manual for a TS1003: "Switching Adjusts the Threshold at which the Threshold Switched outlets switch On/Off. 10W - Low - Notebook 22W - Medium- PC 42W - High - TV" In my experience, there is some hysteresis. (The minimum draw to turn on is higher than the maximum draw to turn back off.) In my application, the standby draw of the sensed device, an AVR, was enough to prevent switching the controlled loads back off in the low setting when the AVR was turned "off". Setting to the mid position fixed this. |
Question: | How much power does it take to run in standby mode?e |
Answer: | The 'always on' & 'control' outlets always have power so those would be ideal for a mobile phone charger. The 'switched' (green) outlets only have power when a device in the control outlet is turned on using electricity above the threshold set by the selector on the side. The switched outlets would not be great candidates for a mobile phone charger in most scenarios. |

Question: | Is the display backlit |
Answer: | The display is not backlit. |
Question: | I can't find the ratings for this. Are there any high Wattage electricity items that I shouldn't try measuring ... i.e. my electric car |
Answer: | Thanks for the question. Our Energy Monitor is rated for 15A/1800 watts max on a 120V electrical system. Our belief is that most EV chargers exceed those ratings. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How can get the switched ports to have power all the time .. I set this up in my living room with air purifier and other things that need constant po |
Answer: | Thanks for the question. This unit is made in China. |
Question: | Is there anyway to make them all stay on like a normal power strip |
Answer: | Thanks for the question. The entire power strip is rated at 15A or 1800 watts. The control outlet really isn't providing a specific power amount. When the circuitry for the control outlet senses the device connected to the control outlet is "on" (drawing more than 10w), the switched outlets circuit is turned on. The power handling capacity is not divided up across the types of circuits. |
Question: | Does the motion sensor signal to the power strip to turn off? or is it for the pc exclusively |
Answer: | If the surrounding area is vacant for 30 minutes, the powerstrip will automatically switch off all peripheral devices |
Question: | My pc is plugged into "always on", my tv in "tv" and 2 speakers plugged into the switched outlets. keeps turning off tv and speakers every 2min why |
Answer: | You can plug any device on the control outlet |
Question: | If used for say a saw and vacuum, is there a delay between master and slave outlets so two motors spinning up do not overload it |
Answer: | I would not recommend this for out doors. No weather protection. |
Question: | How much power draw (watt or amps) is needed at control outlet device to turn on the switched outlet device |
Answer: | 3 |
Question: | How long is the cord |
Answer: | Thanks for the question. While we expect that the table saw will have enough of an energy draw to activate the switched outlet, there is concern with the total power draw. Our unit is rated at max 15A/1800 watts. Our thought is that either of your devices will be 10-12A alone. Together they will exceed the power handling capacity and most likely trip the unit. |
Question: | can I use this for 2 garage foor openers (masters) and 4 led shop lights (slaves), so the lights come on when either door opens |
Answer: | ELECTRICAL SPECIFICATIONS FOR INDOOR USE Voltage 120 VAC +/- 10%, 60 Hz Power Rating 15 A Surge Protection 72,000 Amps/1,080 Joules Noise Filtering <40 dB Standby Power Consumption |

Reduces active and standby power waste in workstations
Sleep command integration reduces active power waste from computers that are left on and not in use by putting them to sleep if no motion is detected in the workspace area. When this occurs, supplied power to the four switched outlets on the power strip is removed, thereby eliminating standby power waste.
Requires no software or additional programming
Convenient plug-and-play design makes this device and effective PC power management solution that is easy to install and use. Requiring no software installation or additional programming, the PC Advanced PowerStrip Plus can be installed, set up, and configured in a matter of minutes.
Compatible with all major operating systems
The device is compatible with PC (Windows/Linux) and Mac operating systems and can work either independently or in conjunction with other power management tools. Its operation does not interfere with remote system updates (e.g., Wake on LAN), since the countdown timer only initates when the computer wakes up and movement is sensed.
Features premium-quality, fireproof surge protection
The PC Advanced PowerStrip Plus provides premium-quality, fireproof surge protection to safeguard electronics against dangerous surge spikes. The Metal Oxide Varistors are encased in a fireproof ceramic housing that suppress more energy and dissipate heat faster than traditional surge protection products.
Automatically Reduces Active and Standby Power Waste
Studies show that small power equipment such as computers and monitors left always-on or in an active state are an increasingly significant source of energy use, accounting for nearly two-thirds of power consumption in offices. The PC Advanced PowerStrip Plus reduces active power waste from the computer by putting it to sleep and eliminates standby power waste by removing power supplied to PC peripheral electronics that consume power even when powered off.
Excellent for network professionals and IT administrators
Most companies adhere to strict software installation policies which prohibit the installation of third-party power management software, which protects the organization’s computers, systems, data, and communications against potential vulnerabilities. The PC Advanced PowerStrip Plus poses no such risk to organizations since it does not require the installation of software or drivers.
Premium-quality, Fireproof Surge Protection
Traditional surge suppression products use standard Metal Oxide Varistor (MOV) components. TrickleStar’s surge suppression products incorporate advanced surge protection technology with ceramic-encased MOVs that are capable of suppressing more energy and dissipating heat faster than standard MOVs. More importantly, the ceramic casing is fireproof and capable of preventing fire during abnormal surge conditions.

User questions & answers
Question: | Are all outlets controlled by the timer or can 2 outlets be controlled by timer and the rest be constantly on |
Answer: | Thanks for the question. This unit has a fixed threshold set at 10 watts. If the device connected to the control outlet is drawing more than 10 watts, then the Advanced Power Strip will turn on the switched outlets. |
Question: | How long is the cord |
Answer: | Thanks for the question. With this unit, the TV should be connected to the 3rd outlet - labeled control. The control outlet is a constant power outlet. When the power strip senses the TV is on (TV drawing more than 10 watts of electricity), the switched outlets will have power. If the power strip does not sense the TV is on (less than 10 watts electrical draw), then the switched outlets will be off. |
