It fills the width of the label tape/ribbon you have installed based on the font size you select. The text is centered on the tape/ribbon both horizontally and vertically. Yes, it can fill the width of the tape/ribbon within about 1/8” for the ¾” label (3/32” for the ½” label) at top and bottom based on available font selection.
