User questions & answers
Question: | How exactly does this work & do i need it for my Bolt |
Answer: | Should work just fine |
Question: | Can I use this to split one Directv signal into two? In other words, get the same dtv signal on 2 different tvs |
Answer: | Thank you for the question. You can use the splitter outside, but it's recommended to use it in a house box or premise box to keep from getting water inside. Grounding is recommended, however, the splitter will work without grounding. The purpose is to keep your wires from damage, and potential fire damage in the event of a surge.Keep in mind, your cable system only needs 1 grounding point. So, if you have an established ground before the 3 way that's in place, that's all you need. (Don't add a 2nd ground) If you are unsure about grounding, it's best to have a professional look at it.If you have other questions, feel free to contact us directly through the buyer messaging system.Thank you |

User questions & answers
Question: | I want to hook this up to my direct tv dish for the signal and run two boxes with two separate wires. Is this what I need |
Answer: | Yes, it should not give you any problems. |
Question: | Can I use this outside my house to split my Comcast cable? The current 3 way splitter they are using is not grounded. Do I need to ground this 4 way |
Answer: | It is my understanding that there will be about 7db of signal loss on each port. The more you split the signal, the weaker it gets. This is not usually a problem unless you are starting with a weak signal and then splitting it multiple times. If you need a stronger signal, you can put a signal amplifier as close to the source as possible. |
Question: | Do I need to actually plug anything into the input on this? I just want to link multiple moca 2 devices on existing home wiring |
Answer: | These devices are passive with no "active" electronic circuitry. As such they essentially perform a resistive "split" taking and input signal and splitting it to 3 outputs, each with a lower "output" signal than the "input". BUT, since the device is passive, signals can go both ways from the "outputs" back to the "input", again with some reduction in signal levels for the input and other outputs. It's a bit complicated so you might think of it as a major 2 lane roadway as the signal "input", but with 3 additional smaller single lane secondary roadways that permit signal "traffic" to either exit to them from the main roadway, or have smaller roadways provide "signal traffic" back to the main highway with no one-way roads, stop signs or traffic lights to impede the signal "traffic" flow. |
Question: | Can i use this device to add an ota signal from an attic antenna to the cable from my catv service and then separate the signal at the rear of my tv |
Answer: | You'll need an adapter (transformer or balun) that goes from a 300 ohm ("old screws") to 75 ohm F-Connector (pushpins). You can likely find one at Home Depot or Lowes. Failing that, Amazon has them for about $7- here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FFNTNQV/ref=sxts_kp_tr_2?pf_rd_p=8778bc68-27e7-403f-8460-de48b6e788fb&pd_rd_wg=gnveX&pf_rd_r=CACFYS8SY3ZC0AX3DFDE&pd_rd_i=B07FFNTNQV&pd_rd_w=go4gS&pd_rd_r=f0993bb1-701f-451b-9271-7e563935a8bb&ie=UTF8&qid=1546465511&sr=2 |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will these work with a 3 way splitter using rg6 dual shield coaxial cable |
Answer: | I have not been able to measure it however from a standard hi-def antenna array mounted at 7 m height I was able to get 59 channels in my area (outside Philadelphia). When I ran through this splitter at the half-way point in the basement instead of the original joiner I had in the line I lost over half the channels. This would be indicative of a dB loss which is large. I just purchased an amplified splitter - hoping that helps. |
Question: | Will this work with cat 6 cable (rj |
Answer: | This is a high frequency non powered splitter. I use it for my various tv's in several rooms and does well. It is not powered to filter or amplify like your powered splitter. So as to VOIP , It may work but the signal will not be amplified. |
Question: | Will these fit over 3/4 pvc for a project I am doing? Would be using kind of like a gromet but I don't need the cover etc the gromets offer |
Answer: | Yes. I use it to create a MOCA 2.0 network between two Verizon Quantum Gateway routers. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can I use this for retro games |
Answer: | It should, I used it on a 3-way splitter and quad sheild cable. |
Question: | will this work using two digital converters on one antenna |
Answer: | I apologize; however, these boots are not designed for data connections, such as RJ-45. The will; however, work well with coaxial F connections such as RG59, RG6, and RG11 connectors. |
Question: | I am installing a new coax outlet, is this splitter safe to use inside the wall |
Answer: | These weather grommets are made to fit over Coaxial RG6 F cable which has an OD of .332" so no, they won't fit over 3/4" PVC. You might be able to use 3/4 pvc flexible Hub connectors. |
Question: | I want to split my cable for TV and Internet, will this work |
Answer: | Yes, this splitter is balanced. What the seller ("Monoprice") wrote is wrong, most likely he is applying the definition of "Balanced" used for other electronic components, e.g. microphones. Balanced in the world of coax splitters means that the signal from all outputs is the same (and different for unbalanced). The number of outputs for this splitter is a power of 2 (i.e. 8=2*2*2 = 2^3). So, it is balanced. I would even say "naturally balanced", as it would take a special effort to make it unbalanced. When you have an even number of outputs, the easiest design is to have the splitter unbalanced, - e.g. 3, the easiest way to realize it is by splitting the signal 2-ways, and then splitting one of those outputs 2-ways again. Each 2-way split gives you about 3.5 dB attenuation. So, you would have -3.5 dB on one leg, and -7dB on two others. On a balanced 3-way splitter you'd get -5.5dB. So, any splitter whose number of outputs is a power of 2 (i.e. 2, 4, 8, 16) are "naturally" unbalanced. While in principle, when you have other even number of outputs (6, 10, 12, 14), - those could be balanced and unbalanced (think of a 6-way as a combination of a 2-way and two 3-ways), - in reality, all even-output-number splitters that I've seen sold are balanced. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is it bedirectional |
Answer: | If you are asking if the splitter requires AC power (i.e. amplified) the answer is no.If you are asking if it will pass AC or DC through on the COAX, I don't think so. |
Question: | Will this be adiquate to split the signal from direct TV sat |
Answer: | This splitter has one inlet for the main cable, and three outlets, a cable to a TV box in each if you want. I split mine for a TV box and Internet modem for the computer. The one left is capped. |
Question: | neeI d a digital satellite to watch several chanel in english and spanish. What you recommended |
Answer: | A three way unbalanced splitter will have two -7db connections and one -3.5db loss connection. One would use the lower loss -3.5db connection for a modem and the -7db for the televisions. |
Question: | Will this work on comcast hd on-demand cable boxes? i have 3 on-demand and 2 hd converters |
Answer: | "Balanced" will split the signal evenly across all three taps, 1/3 each. "Unbalanced" will make one of the ports stronger. So the split will be something like 1/2 + 1/4 + 1/4. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What type of material is this splitter made of |
Answer: | I wouldn't. Most solutions are made to be used with cleaning pads (MoFi and Groovewasher, for example; these are probably the best). These cloths aren't really all that effective on vinyl, to be honest, and they're not designed to be. I use them to clean the top of my audio equipment. |
Question: | My 8 way splitter says -130db on the back. will i notice any db loss if each input is being used |
Answer: | I don't know exactly. It seems like the same thickness as all other microfabric cleaning towels that I've used. |
Question: | Will this work to split a signal from an HD antenna |
Answer: | It is superfine fiber, we called microfiber. |
Question: | Is this appoved for xfinity X1 service |
Answer: | I just put them in the washer. |
