10 best speakers selectors
Speaker selectors are devices used in audio systems to distribute audio signals from a single source to multiple speakers. They are commonly used in home theater setups, multi-room audio systems, or in commercial settings like restaurants and retail stores. Speaker selectors help users control where the audio is played and can be installed in wall plates or as standalone devices.
Key features and information about speaker selectors:
Purpose: Speaker selectors allow you to connect multiple speakers to a single audio source, such as an amplifier or receiver. This enables you to play audio in different rooms or zones, making them ideal for multi-room audio systems.
Number of Zones: Speaker selectors come in various configurations, supporting different numbers of speaker zones. You can find models that support two to several zones, depending on your needs.
Impedance Matching: Many speaker selectors offer impedance matching. This feature helps prevent damage to your amplifier and ensures optimal sound quality by matching the impedance of the connected speakers with the amplifier's output.
Manual or Automatic Control: Some speaker selectors provide manual control, allowing you to select which zones receive audio manually.Others come with automatic control options, including remote control, smartphone apps, or wall-mounted keypads.
Volume Control: In more advanced systems, speaker selectors may include volume control for each zone, allowing you to adjust the audio volume independently in different rooms.
Protection Circuitry: High-quality speaker selectors often include protection circuitry to safeguard your amplifier and speakers against overloads or shorts.
Wiring: Proper wiring is essential for speaker selectors to function correctly. They often require a dedicated wiring setup to connect the speakers and the audio source.
Compatibility: Ensure that the speaker selector you choose is compatible with your amplifier and speaker setup in terms of power handling and impedance.
Installation: Some speaker selectors are designed to be installed in wall plates, allowing for a clean and discreet installation. Others can be standalone units placed near the amplifier or source.
Applications: Speaker selectors are commonly used in home audio systems, home theaters, outdoor audio setups, and commercial environments where distributed audio is needed.
Brands and Models: Several brands offer speaker selectors and related accessories, including Russound, Niles, Sonance, and more. It's essential to choose a reputable brand and model to ensure the reliability and quality of your audio distribution system.
Speaker selectors play a crucial role in creating a versatile and flexible audio distribution system, allowing you to enjoy music or audio in multiple rooms or zones without the need for separate amplifiers and sources in each location. When selecting a speaker selector, consider your specific requirements, including the number of zones, impedance matching, control options, and any additional features that enhance your audio experience.

User questions & answers
Question: | I want to use this on two sets of speakers, one set for front height & second set for side surrounds and switch between the two. Is it possible |
Answer: | I have speakers throughout my house. The Pyle Six-zone box allows me to have music in most every room. Hook each speaker you have to the Pyle and hook the Pyle to your receiver, speaker A or B. I have mine on B. Connect your receiver audio to your TV audio. There is a separate button on the Pyle that you should always keep positioned to on (button in). That is the easiest I can make it for you. This box works perfect for me and has never shut off. Good luck to you. |
Question: | Does this switch allow me to control sets of speakers independently |
Answer: | I am running an older Technics amp 2x100 6 pairs of speakers at times so I would say yes. Just remember you are putting this amp to a lot of work if you're running 6 pairs of speakers so watch the temps on the amp. |
Question: | One person indicated what they believed the protection button was. Does anybody know? Pyle technical support apparently doesn't exist |
Answer: | Maybe. The more speakers that you connect the lower their effective impedance as seen by the amplifier. And the lower the effective impedance the higher the current that the amplifier must generate in order to drive the speakers to a specific listening level without distortion. Most speakers, particularly the less costly ones, have a nominal 8 ohm impedance. So if you are driving one set of such speakers the amplifier will be seeing an 8 ohm load. But if your amplifier is driving 2 sets of such speakers the amplifier will be seeing 1/(1/8 + 1/8) = a 4 ohm load; if your amplifier is driving 3 sets of such speakers the amplifier will be seeing a 1/(1/8 + 1/8 + 1/8) = 2.7 ohm load, etc. With 6 speakers your amplifier will be seeing a 1.3 ohm load. And this would be a nominal and typically maximum load; in practice the load fluctuates depending on frequency and is effectively lower for short periods of time. Some amplifiers are designed to drive such low loads but many are not. If you try to do that with such a low current amplifier for a long period of time you will burn up the amplifier. That is why speaker selectors like this one have a protection button which basically adds a resistance in series with the speakers in order to increase the impedance seen by the amplifier. This will reduce the overall efficiency and you will notice that you have to increase the volume to get the same amount of sound as with the protection button off.So, if your amplifier has a sufficient current capability to drive those 6 speakers to your desired listening levels, great. If it doesn't, and if the listening level is too low for your tastes with the protection button on, you will need to either settle for lower volume or get a more powerful amplifier. |
Question: | How do I hook this up to my 5.1 receiver |
Answer: | The sound is great there is no distortion. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Input from sony str-dh190 and out to 3 zones but no audio; tried connecting 1 zone and still no audio - tried 6 & 8 ohms - any other recommendations |
Answer: | Make sure the input volume is up (Bluetooth, aux from phone or aux) amp volume should be up at least 50%-75%. Then turn up the SS4 vc. Should be on 8ohm, button pressed in (in the on position) and select A or B depending on what you have it plugged into the back. |
Question: | Is there a warranty |
Answer: | Yes it comes with an one year warranty. |
Question: | Monoprice, can I connect 1 pair of rated 8 ohm (nominal 6 ohms - Elacs speakers and a different pair of 8 ohm speakers to play simultaneously |
Answer: | Yes, that is the whole point of this product - to allow one amplifier to drive several pairs of speakers, with independent volume control over each pair, and impedance protection to protect the amplifier. |
Question: | What does l- l+ r- r+ mean |
Answer: | L is for the left speaker and R is for the right speaker. |

User questions & answers
Question: | will the Monoprice 109995 accommodate 14 gauge wire |
Answer: | According to the user manual, it can accommodate up to 14 AWG.http://www.monopricehub.com/files/manuals/9995_Manual_130103.pdf |
Question: | the output of my Denon 1912 is 90W per channel. This is rated at 70W. Can it support my Denon |
Answer: | My Pioneer Elite (Model VSX53 if you want to double check the specs) is rated at 110 w/channel and this splitter works just fine. I've had no issues. |
Question: | Can I use this in reverse? Multiple amps to one pair of speakers |
Answer: | In theory you can. Use the speaker select switches to hook up the amplifier speaker outputs. Hook the one set of speakers you wish to share to the connector labled amplifier input. But be warned DO NOT select both amps at once. If you are lucky, you will blow the speaker fuse, if it’s got one. At worst you will trip the amp protection circuit or blow an internal fuse. |
Question: | can you run all 4-channels at the same time |
Answer: | I could not get the darn thing to work at all. I bought a NEW Denon 5+1 receiver and had extra cables to outiside deck speakers (should have gotten 7+1) that could not hook up as I had four surround plus sub and center channel in LR. Thought this would allow me to get the outside speakers working like a splitter that I could turn on and off. Was wrong or either not using correctly but does not very complex. I pushed every single combination of buttons and never got any sound to go through outside OR inside. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Has anyone noticed a drop in sound quality or power level |
Answer: | No |
Question: | Can i use this to switch between two preamps going into one amp |
Answer: | I think with honey being as thick as it is, would likely be far slower thank transferring it manually. Even for pumping out engine oil is a slow process. |
Question: | Does anyone know of a "smart" (i.e. controllable with Google, etc) switch like this |
Answer: | If it’s dirty oil or otherwise why clean it? |
Question: | Is the selector switch a “ Break before make” Type of switch? I want to ensure that it is virtually impossible to back feed one amp into the other |
Answer: | I have no clue on that. |

User questions & answers
Question: | I am installing in-wall speakers in multiple rooms. My question is what is the best cheapest in-wall volume controller that would work with this speaker selector |
Answer: | There is no difference in for the install if you mount speakers in the wall or ceiling. |
Question: | Several questions, How do you hook it to your stereo, I am hard of hearing so I hooked 3speakers to my stereo system, this is hooked to my tv when I turn it up some times it turns off by it self I do not understand that I would like more speakers all the 5 star reviews makes this product sound real good. the receiver |
Answer: | I think so. They mount with a screw and clamp. The screw is accessible behind the removable front grill. The speaker comes with a template so you know what size to cut out in the wall or ceiling. After you insert the speaker into the recess, as you turn the screw, it tightens the clamp onto drywall, securing it in place. Although it is designed for drywall, I think it will work on anything with approximately the same thickness (~3/4 inch thick). |
Question: | How Do You Hook A PSS6 Speaker Selector To A Pyle PCAU46A |
Answer: | I would recommend a 5.1 home audio receiver. |
Question: | can i play all 6 speakers at the same time |
Answer: | The pyle pta44bt would be a good amp for the speakers. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will fit on slider rack shelf with 16 inches wide and 15 inches deep? thank you |
Answer: | Good question. There are two things you should know before you pull the trigger on this. Banana plugs don’t insert far enough to stay put, and since I have this box hooked up to amplified speakers I kept getting a buzz. I bought special banana plug pig tails which I ended up removing because of said problem. What did work very well for me was to remove the banana plugs and strip and solder the speaker wires then tighten the threaded part against the inserted wire in the hole on the shaft, a very tight connection and that worked great. The other issue is you can’t turn off one the speakers which was reported in one of the comments. It is annoying but for my application one set of speakers is downstairs with their own volume control so, I just adjust the volume on them when in use. Hope this helps. |
Question: | I don't understand the description. what does the a /b button at each speaker volume control mean? doesn't the speaker pairs selected play together |
Answer: | Hi, I have one of these (returning the 1st one due to poor speaker terminal , I find that it will accept a 4mm and thicker Banana Plug. Amazon's model was poor fit, but MediaBridge's plug in more securely. I have not fully connected my XtremePro yet, but I hope this helps. |
Question: | Can the speaker connectors take banana plugs as opposed to threading the wires |
Answer: | I may not be understanding your question correctly, but with this item I am using the volume control on my amp for the front speakers and the volume on this device to control the volume on the rear speakers. So yes, I can set one set of speakers at a different volume that the other. Again, if I am understanding your question correctly. |
Question: | So I can hook up 4 sets of speakers on my new Pyle unit all on one receiver without worry of damage? Looked like chart had impedence fall off to |
Answer: | Yes as far as I can tell. Aka-when I only have on speaker on and flip the switch to turn another group on, the volume drops. It’s not necessarily half the volume though. |

User questions & answers
Question: | can this replace my Pyle Pro PT |
Answer: | No, not the devices have the same functions! |
Question: | Ok, I bought the PT510 amplifier, and the PSPVC6 speaker selector, but not sure how to connect them together. Can anyone help |
Answer: | Ok I'm going to try and keep it simple. Normally, once the amp is connected the 'sound' travels out of the red/white or left/right speaker connectors that are attached then to the speaker system. In your case, think of the speaker box as a 'conjunction' (like the words 'and/ but' in a sentence)..so just connect the 'speaker out' on your amp to the 'speaker in' on the speaker selector box...then connect the speaker box to the 6 speakers...be ready with a small flat head screw driver to open each the speaker connection ports...it's a bit more tedious but assures a professional non clip in/out connection...good luck...and make sure every thing is off to avoid 'blowing out' of the speakers and/or unit. |
Question: | Does this have impedance protection - control against low ohms driving multiple speakers |
Answer: | http://manuals.pyleusa.com/PDF/PSPVC4-6.pdf The last few pages of manual shows impedance of turning on combinations of speakers It is the amp that needs to be 4 ohm stable, I have a Denon AVR 3300 and AVR 2500. The more speakers active, the lower the impedance, (ohms Law) and the more power needed from the amp According to Crutchfield, we need a 4 ohm stable amp, and the Denon family provides overload protection, and the Denon amps have a 8 ohm (default) and a4 ohm setting I already fried an Onkyo amp, running all the speakers at once, for an extended period. |
Question: | Is the Pyle PT510 240 Watt Amplifier a good receiver to use with this. I want to put sound in many rooms in my office |
Answer: | I am by no means an AV expert. This amplifier was recommended to me by our AV guy in order to amplify the sound for distribution into several rooms in which we have speakers. We primarily use this amp in connection with an Apple TV device to play music from our iPhone or iPad in our kitchen, den, family room and outside speakers. Hope this response is helpful for you. Kind Regards, Robert |

Question: | What colors does this control come in |
Answer: | Hi sounds like you dont want to see the tranformer , with cable running down the wall. What I did with mine if you know about wiring electrical and things like that I cut the wire from my Transformer to the unit and I made it longer and I run a wire up into my attic where I have a light switch with a plug .plugged in the transformer ,made the wire longer so now it's a hard wire unit basically that's what it looks like because all you see is just the unit in the wall with the faceplate no wire sticking out of it and that's how I did mine don't know if you have access to your attic and if you have a light up there with an outlet but that will be the best way to have a clean job for it, hope this will help a bit, also to your question, this unit comes with a 120v to 12 volt dc converter |
Question: | Can I use this for two source inputs and one output? IE: Channel A = (inA, comA = Chromecast); Channel B = (inB, comB = other source); out=speakers |
Answer: | I assume you are referring to the bluetooth name. I have 6 units, they all use the same name, but that isn't a problem, because they don't advertise unless you push the volume knob. After you pair each one, rename it on your phone, no need to rename on the receiver, the phone can tell them apart. So if you have previously paired to a phone, when you turn the unit on it will try to reconnect to its existing paired device. If you want to pair to a new device, press the volume knob while you are scanning for devices from your phone, then rename it in bluetooth settings on your phone after it is paired. The only time you are going to have an issue is if you press the volume knob on 2 devices at the same time, you wont know which is which, but since you probably cant be in 2 rooms at once to do that, shouldn't ever be an issue, and whichever one it pairs to, you can rename to distinguish which is which.. |
