14 best a b speaker selectors
A/B speaker selectors are devices commonly used in audio systems to manage multiple sets of speakers connected to a single amplifier or receiver. These selectors allow users to choose between different sets of speakers or to play audio through multiple sets simultaneously. They are often used in home audio setups, distributed audio systems, or environments where there's a need to control audio in different zones.
Here are some key features and functions of A/B speaker selectors:
Speaker Switching:
- A/B speaker selectors typically have switches or buttons that allow users to choose which set of speakers (A or B) they want to activate or deactivate.
Multi-Zone Audio:
- In multi-room audio setups, these selectors enable users to play audio in specific rooms or zones by selecting the corresponding set of speakers.
Impedance Protection:
- Many A/B selectors include impedance-matching protection, which helps prevent damage to the amplifier by maintaining a safe load on it, especially when multiple sets of speakers are active.
Volume Control:
- Some models come with volume controls for each speaker set, providing additional control over the audio levels in different zones.
Compatibility:
- A/B speaker selectors are designed to work with various speaker types and amplifier/receiver setups. They usually support both high and low impedance speakers.
Ease of Use:
- These selectors are designed to be user-friendly, with clear labeling and straightforward controls for easy operation.
Distribution of Audio Signals:
- In addition to speaker selection, some A/B selectors can distribute audio signals to different zones or rooms, enhancing the flexibility of the audio system.
Applications:
- A/B selectors are commonly used in home theaters, whole-house audio systems, outdoor audio setups, and commercial environments where audio distribution is required.
When using A/B speaker selectors, it's important to follow the manufacturer's instructions, especially regarding impedance matching, to ensure proper functionality and prevent damage to your audio equipment.

User questions & answers
Question: | What gauge wire does this accept |
Answer: | Yes it does. We use it to play music simultaneously indoors and outdoors when entertaining. It's a great little setup. |
Question: | Has anyone used larger than 14AWG wire in the ports, would like to use larger wire for a very long run |
Answer: | It will work for what you want to do. The unit is better suited for 8 ohms speakers. Currently I'm using 4 ohms but not a great idea. If you drive the power too much you will blow the mono price. I also think that it's better suited for using 1 amp and two set of speakers. |
Question: | Will this do A+B Speaker playback simultaneously |
Answer: | yes |
Question: | I want to connect two amps and volume control to two sets of speakers. Will this work? Do the speakers need to be similar Ohm wise |
Answer: | it comes in a amazon shipping box |

User questions & answers
Question: | I want to use this on two sets of speakers, one set for front height & second set for side surrounds and switch between the two. Is it possible |
Answer: | I have speakers throughout my house. The Pyle Six-zone box allows me to have music in most every room. Hook each speaker you have to the Pyle and hook the Pyle to your receiver, speaker A or B. I have mine on B. Connect your receiver audio to your TV audio. There is a separate button on the Pyle that you should always keep positioned to on (button in). That is the easiest I can make it for you. This box works perfect for me and has never shut off. Good luck to you. |
Question: | Does this switch allow me to control sets of speakers independently |
Answer: | I am running an older Technics amp 2x100 6 pairs of speakers at times so I would say yes. Just remember you are putting this amp to a lot of work if you're running 6 pairs of speakers so watch the temps on the amp. |
Question: | One person indicated what they believed the protection button was. Does anybody know? Pyle technical support apparently doesn't exist |
Answer: | Maybe. The more speakers that you connect the lower their effective impedance as seen by the amplifier. And the lower the effective impedance the higher the current that the amplifier must generate in order to drive the speakers to a specific listening level without distortion. Most speakers, particularly the less costly ones, have a nominal 8 ohm impedance. So if you are driving one set of such speakers the amplifier will be seeing an 8 ohm load. But if your amplifier is driving 2 sets of such speakers the amplifier will be seeing 1/(1/8 + 1/8) = a 4 ohm load; if your amplifier is driving 3 sets of such speakers the amplifier will be seeing a 1/(1/8 + 1/8 + 1/8) = 2.7 ohm load, etc. With 6 speakers your amplifier will be seeing a 1.3 ohm load. And this would be a nominal and typically maximum load; in practice the load fluctuates depending on frequency and is effectively lower for short periods of time. Some amplifiers are designed to drive such low loads but many are not. If you try to do that with such a low current amplifier for a long period of time you will burn up the amplifier. That is why speaker selectors like this one have a protection button which basically adds a resistance in series with the speakers in order to increase the impedance seen by the amplifier. This will reduce the overall efficiency and you will notice that you have to increase the volume to get the same amount of sound as with the protection button off.So, if your amplifier has a sufficient current capability to drive those 6 speakers to your desired listening levels, great. If it doesn't, and if the listening level is too low for your tastes with the protection button on, you will need to either settle for lower volume or get a more powerful amplifier. |
Question: | How do I hook this up to my 5.1 receiver |
Answer: | The sound is great there is no distortion. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How do you wire from the amp to the switch? It only has one red and one black connext |
Answer: | It will connect to anything that has a 1/4-20 mount. |
Question: | What is the largest gauge wire that can be used |
Answer: | I would think that as long as it has the hole on the bottom that you can screwed into it would work with any camera. This seems to be a good product but haven't really used it yet. . |
Question: | Can you use this to toggle between two stereo amplifiers or is it just to toggle between speakers |
Answer: | If your camcorder is over a pound (1lbs) then absolutely NO! The plastic handles that lock the legs extended will explode and break, do not risk your camera on this thing. |
Question: | At what resistance (in Ohms) is the 200w continuous power rated? I can't find any literature on these speaker controllers |
Answer: | I am not experienced with DVX cameras, however, if your camera has a hole on the bottom that fits a 3/4 inch rough cut screw, then it will work with this tripod! |
Question: | Will this work with gopro |
Answer: | The tri-pod comes with a block that screws into the bottom if many different camera models. If your camera has a threaded hole in the bottom it should fit. |
Question: | Will this work with a Nikon J1 ? Thanks |
Answer: | Far less than 1 lbs actually, any camera over 1 lbs WILL cause the plastic on the leg locks to break. The specified bearing weight is clearly a lie, don't fall for it. This tripod can not hold a heavy object, much less its own weight. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can you tell me what the warranty is on this product |
Answer: | 300 is about right. Any larger and the spkr wires won't fit. 16 gauge max |
Question: | Can I connect this to my receiver via bluetooth |
Answer: | We have a 100W amp connected to our speaker selector (actually the 8 channel one) and we can drive both the floorstanding speakers in the main room and all 7 rooms with in-ceiling speakers around the house to any volume we like with excellent fidelity. IF you already have a receiver and you're thinking about a new one to use with the selector, you can always use the old ton and connect it to the second source, and now you have 2 possible kinds of music to switch around the house. WE have the Amp, CD, and IPad on source A, with an old receiver for AM/FM on source B, so we can have one program playing in some rooms, and a second in the other rooms. |
Question: | what is the maximum continuous amplifier power for which this product is compatible? The SSVC6 says 300W, but I can't find a spec for this one. THXS |
Answer: | Accepts Wire Gauges Up to 14AWG |
Question: | What do I need to look for in a receiver to pair with this volume control selectors |
Answer: | 14 gauge is tight but will work. You need to be very careful stripping the wire so you do not get stray strands while inserting. Another option is to use a short pigtail of 16 gauge and transition to 14 gauge. Impedance loss is linear so a few inches of 16 gauge will have no impact on losses |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will fit on slider rack shelf with 16 inches wide and 15 inches deep? thank you |
Answer: | Good question. There are two things you should know before you pull the trigger on this. Banana plugs don’t insert far enough to stay put, and since I have this box hooked up to amplified speakers I kept getting a buzz. I bought special banana plug pig tails which I ended up removing because of said problem. What did work very well for me was to remove the banana plugs and strip and solder the speaker wires then tighten the threaded part against the inserted wire in the hole on the shaft, a very tight connection and that worked great. The other issue is you can’t turn off one the speakers which was reported in one of the comments. It is annoying but for my application one set of speakers is downstairs with their own volume control so, I just adjust the volume on them when in use. Hope this helps. |
Question: | I don't understand the description. what does the a /b button at each speaker volume control mean? doesn't the speaker pairs selected play together |
Answer: | Hi, I have one of these (returning the 1st one due to poor speaker terminal , I find that it will accept a 4mm and thicker Banana Plug. Amazon's model was poor fit, but MediaBridge's plug in more securely. I have not fully connected my XtremePro yet, but I hope this helps. |
Question: | Can the speaker connectors take banana plugs as opposed to threading the wires |
Answer: | I may not be understanding your question correctly, but with this item I am using the volume control on my amp for the front speakers and the volume on this device to control the volume on the rear speakers. So yes, I can set one set of speakers at a different volume that the other. Again, if I am understanding your question correctly. |
Question: | So I can hook up 4 sets of speakers on my new Pyle unit all on one receiver without worry of damage? Looked like chart had impedence fall off to |
Answer: | Yes as far as I can tell. Aka-when I only have on speaker on and flip the switch to turn another group on, the volume drops. It’s not necessarily half the volume though. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this rack mountable |
Answer: | Hi, no it is not mountable. However, you may customize your own rackmount. Thank you. |
Question: | can I use this amp with my sony str 1030 reciever to add additional power |
Answer: | This is not an amp. It takes an output to speakers and can run different sets of speakers. If you do not have enough power in your receiver to run the speakers it will not work. Each time you turn on a set of speakers it will drop the power by a percentage. Some receivers can not handle more then three sets. |
Question: | Can one of the zones I hook to be a powered subwoofer (which itself feeds a pair of small speakers |
Answer: | No you cannot hook up a powered sub woofer to a speaker selector |
Question: | Will this work with an old devon dra 35v receiver from the mid 80s? i have 4 pairs of speakers and might need to use at least three pairs at a time |
Answer: | I do not recognize the Receiver you are referring to but the connections are very simple. The speaker wires that are driving your speakers will be shortened and then connected to the Pyle Home speaker selector. Then your speakers will be connected to the Pyle Home speaker selector to each of the different four zones that you have in your home/office/whatever. I am presently driving three pairs of speakers with one zone unused. I have had perfect performance. |

Question: | What colors does this control come in |
Answer: | Hi sounds like you dont want to see the tranformer , with cable running down the wall. What I did with mine if you know about wiring electrical and things like that I cut the wire from my Transformer to the unit and I made it longer and I run a wire up into my attic where I have a light switch with a plug .plugged in the transformer ,made the wire longer so now it's a hard wire unit basically that's what it looks like because all you see is just the unit in the wall with the faceplate no wire sticking out of it and that's how I did mine don't know if you have access to your attic and if you have a light up there with an outlet but that will be the best way to have a clean job for it, hope this will help a bit, also to your question, this unit comes with a 120v to 12 volt dc converter |
Question: | Can I use this for two source inputs and one output? IE: Channel A = (inA, comA = Chromecast); Channel B = (inB, comB = other source); out=speakers |
Answer: | I assume you are referring to the bluetooth name. I have 6 units, they all use the same name, but that isn't a problem, because they don't advertise unless you push the volume knob. After you pair each one, rename it on your phone, no need to rename on the receiver, the phone can tell them apart. So if you have previously paired to a phone, when you turn the unit on it will try to reconnect to its existing paired device. If you want to pair to a new device, press the volume knob while you are scanning for devices from your phone, then rename it in bluetooth settings on your phone after it is paired. The only time you are going to have an issue is if you press the volume knob on 2 devices at the same time, you wont know which is which, but since you probably cant be in 2 rooms at once to do that, shouldn't ever be an issue, and whichever one it pairs to, you can rename to distinguish which is which.. |
Question: | Does this control 2 speakers or 2 pairs of speakers? The pictures are deceiving and I don't see it noted. Thanks |

User questions & answers
Question: | I am installing in-wall speakers in multiple rooms. My question is what is the best cheapest in-wall volume controller that would work with this speaker selector |
Answer: | There is no difference in for the install if you mount speakers in the wall or ceiling. |
Question: | Several questions, How do you hook it to your stereo, I am hard of hearing so I hooked 3speakers to my stereo system, this is hooked to my tv when I turn it up some times it turns off by it self I do not understand that I would like more speakers all the 5 star reviews makes this product sound real good. the receiver |
Answer: | I think so. They mount with a screw and clamp. The screw is accessible behind the removable front grill. The speaker comes with a template so you know what size to cut out in the wall or ceiling. After you insert the speaker into the recess, as you turn the screw, it tightens the clamp onto drywall, securing it in place. Although it is designed for drywall, I think it will work on anything with approximately the same thickness (~3/4 inch thick). |
Question: | How Do You Hook A PSS6 Speaker Selector To A Pyle PCAU46A |

Question: | can i play all 6 speakers at the same time |
Answer: | The pyle pta44bt would be a good amp for the speakers. |

User questions & answers
Question: | When the unit is power cycled, does it retain it's last setting for each speaker zone? Or does it default to either 'on' or 'off' for each zone |
Answer: | Hello, looks like Amazon has the incorrect information for this item.Tripod weight: 5.88 lbs (2.67kg)Shipping weight: 8 lbs |
Question: | Does the 7 zone with remote model maintain settings after the power is disconnected/reconnected |
Answer: | If I remember correctly, this is a tripod only. Most folks who buy a good tripod like this have a specific head in mind, or, like me, already have one. I have a ball-head that works great. Really like this tripod. |
Question: | What does 2x source mean? And does it come with wires to connect to the receiver |
Answer: | Hello. Yes, so long as the slider you are using will accept either a 1/4"-20 or 3/8"-16 head mount thread then you should be able to use it with no problem. The only issue would be that with no head on the tripod - this item is for the tripod legs only - your capacity to change the orientation / level / etc of that slider is going to be limited. Question: | does this work with onkyo |
Answer: | The 615317 also seems to cost $20 more. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can I use it to switch between two sets of speakers instead? What's the wattage handling |
Answer: | No this is a single source set up. Volume can be different in each zone |
Question: | Is it a "Break before make" type of switch? Trying to make sure that when I connect a pair of speakers to two amps, only one will be active |
Answer: | The "in" side of the switch has two channels - a left and a right. There are two red and two black rocker switches on one side of the switch and four red and four black rocker switches on the other side of the switch - so 2 x left and 2 x right channels. If you are saying the amp only has one red and one black, then that is a single channel amplifier and is only powering one speaker. You could make that become two speakers, but they would not be stereo. |
Question: | How many speakers will this work with, I need 5 on A and 5 on B |
Answer: | I recommend 16 gauge stranded. |
Question: | Will this work with a 70V, 1100W amplifier system |
Answer: | This is a simple switch. Electricity can flow in both directions. Just don't have both switches on at the same time EVER. |

User questions & answers
Question: | My amplifier is capable of one pair of 4 ohms load. Can I use this to connect 2 pairs of speakers, each pair are 4 ohms load |
Answer: | No |
Question: | watts per channel handling.—Does this mean the input can only be 100 watts or that her output can be 100 watts per channel from 400 watt source |
Answer: | It means that the maximum input can be 100 watts per channel. Now if you have a 400 watt amplifier, it can still work as long as you don't crank it up past 100 watts output. |
Question: | I have a receiver Denon E400 that has 175W per channel, worked well with these speaker selector |
Answer: | What matters is the impedance. Most Amps are 8 ohm as are speakers. When you hook multiple speakers in parallel the impedance goes down. The selector ensures that the impedance is at least 4 ohms even when as many as eight speakers are hooked in parallel (and would otherwise present 1 ohm of impedance). On my Yamaha receiver there is a switch that allows for a 4 ohm load and that is the key. You can probably run a 4 ohm load from an 8 ohm driver, it just means that more energy is dissipated in the amp than in the speakers but hopefully not so much as to do damage |
Question: | Can I control volumes on two different speakers independently with this device |
Answer: | No, there's no volumes controller on this device. You need a controller like ''Niles VCS100R White FG00956 100 Watt InWall Volume Control " (http://www.amazon.com/Niles-VCS100R-White-FG00956-Control/dp/B0001W1I58/ref=pd_sim_e_3) for each pair of speakers. |
