The smaller the wire, the greater the resistance, and the shielding quality will help prevent ingress of coupled noise to your signal. If the shielding is connected to both ends of the cable - and I say this from much personal experience - watch out for ground loops. Two final notes: Because - most - HDMI applications use cables that are < 6 feet up to 10, manufacturers can go on the ultra-cheap. Small wire gage and almost useless shielding. Chinese sweat-shops are the worst oh, wait a minute, that's where almost all AV cables are made. Sorry. Finally, since there are so many factors that will influence signal integrity at 50 feet, I would look at professional HDMI cables, which can easily run up to >> $1,000.
