10 best 75 ohm coaxial cable
A 75-ohm coaxial cable is a type of electrical cable that is commonly used for transmitting video, audio, and data signals in various electronic and communication applications. Here is what you need to know about 75-ohm coaxial cable:
Impedance: The "75 ohms" in the name refers to the cable's characteristic impedance, which is a measure of how much the cable resists the flow of electrical signals. This impedance is specifically suited for carrying high-frequency signals, making it ideal for audio and video transmission.
Construction: A 75-ohm coaxial cable consists of several layers:
- Center Conductor: This is a solid or stranded wire at the core of the cable, typically made of copper or aluminum. It carries the electrical signal.
- Dielectric: Surrounding the center conductor is an insulating layer called the dielectric. It is often made of materials like foam or plastic, which help maintain the cable's impedance.
- Shield: The dielectric is enclosed by a conductive shield, usually made of braided wire or foil. The shield provides protection against electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radio frequency interference (RFI).
- Outer Jacket: The entire cable is covered by an outer protective jacket, which can be made of various materials, including PVC or PE. The jacket provides mechanical protection and weather resistance.
Applications: 75-ohm coaxial cables are widely used in the following applications:
- Television: They are commonly used for connecting cable or satellite television receivers to TVs or set-top boxes.
- Video Surveillance: Coaxial cables are used for transmitting video signals in security camera systems.
- Audio: They are used in audio equipment, including some digital audio interfaces.
- Data Transmission: In some cases, 75-ohm coaxial cables are used for high-speed data transmission, particularly in older networking technologies.
Connectors: To facilitate connections, 75-ohm coaxial cables use specific connectors, such as F-connectors, BNC connectors, or RCA connectors, depending on the application.
Signal Loss: Like all cables, coaxial cables can introduce signal loss or attenuation. The longer the cable run, the more pronounced this loss can become. To minimize signal loss, it's important to use high-quality cables and connectors.
Digital vs. Analog: 75-ohm coaxial cables can be used for both digital and analog signals. They are commonly used for transmitting analog video (e.g., traditional TV signals) but are also used for digital signals like those used in cable television and some data transmission applications.
Termination: Proper termination of coaxial cables is crucial for signal integrity. Connectors must be correctly installed and securely attached to prevent signal leakage or interference.
In summary, 75-ohm coaxial cables are versatile cables used for transmitting audio, video, and data signals in various electronic and communication systems. They are known for their impedance characteristics that make them suitable for high-frequency applications, and they are widely used in the broadcasting, entertainment, and telecommunications industries.

User questions & answers
Question: | what does copper clad center mean |
Answer: | CC or copper clad is a copper coated wire. Copper clad is, in this case, a 20 gauge steel wire, that is then coated with copper to make it an 18 gauge wire. Since the higher the frequency, the closer to the surface of the wire, that the signal runs, in cable TV service, be it satellite or local, that makes this design fine for TV use.. But, since steel is not as good of a conductor as copper is, this is not good for long runs, in signal, or electrical transmission, as the steel will degrade the signal faster. If you need a run that is long, meaning, more then just in your house, then you would probably want to go more with a solid copper center. But, this is fine for most people. |
Question: | Is this cable rated at 3ghz? the directv guy was here and while i have plenty of rg6 cables, he said they must be at 3ghz for hd |
Answer: | Yes.. Pretty much any quality RG6 cable, like this, will be 3Ghz compatible. What you want to watch for is pre made cables, with cheap ends. Most of those are very cheap, and will not hold a good signal over any length. This is the better kind of cable, that will be compatible with any cable, or satellite service. What you want to try NOT to use, is any cable that is RG59.. Stick with RG6.. |
Question: | What is the shielding % of this product? 95%? (I read % is more important than the # of layers - product description says 3 layers |
Answer: | Partly right. Any quality RG6 cable, that was not factory assembled, will have a decent amount of shielding, no matter if it is duel (2), Tri (3), or quad (4) layers of shielding. All this does is prevent noise from getting in the line. The shielding is Duel is good enough that, that is all that cable companies run, when they run a cable line. The shielding has nothing to do with signal, as that is run on the center wire, not the outside shielding. What this is, is a piece of RG6 coax that was on a big roll, and then cut to length, and compression fittings put on the end. Compression fittings are the best kind to use. Because of this, it will be like the cable like the cable company uses, and it is water proof too. The cable itself will be about 2 times as thick, or more, then the cheap cables that you buy, that are premade in a factory. |
Question: | Do the connectors come pre-attached to the cable or are they seperate? The description sounds like they're attached but it's a little unclear |
Answer: | Yes, the ends are attached. The cable is ready to use. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this plug into my orange digital output port on my tv so I can connect to sound bar |
Answer: | Update: this cable is actually 3 feet NOT 6 feet as originally reported. I was measuring the wrong one. My apologies. |
Question: | Can I use this cable for a video feed |
Answer: | This is a single cable (single) wire for a single connection. |
Question: | What is the length of this cable |
Answer: | No, this cable is typically used for cable TV or an antenna. Search for ethernet to connect a router to a device, like a computer or a smart TV. |
Question: | Does this come with two wires for left and right |
Answer: | This cable comes with multiple connectors. I'm not sure what "female bnc" and "male dnr" are. Check item description to verify that your specific needs are met. I'm not geeky at all and I had no difficulty connecting this to the TV cable from my satellite provider, and is in place and working great. |
