14 best drums heads
Drumheads, also known as drum skins, are a crucial component of a drum kit, serving as the surface that the drummer strikes to produce sound. They are typically made of a stretched membrane, traditionally made from animal skin but more commonly today from synthetic materials like Mylar or other plastics. Drumheads can vary in thickness and construction, which significantly affects the sound they produce.
There are two main types of drumheads: single-ply and double-ply. Single-ply heads are made from a single layer of material, providing a bright and open sound with a lot of resonance. They are often used in jazz and softer music genres. Double-ply heads consist of two layers of material, offering a thicker and more focused sound. They are popular in rock, metal, and other high-volume music styles due to their durability and ability to withstand heavy playing.
Drumheads come in various sizes to fit different drums within a drum kit. The size and tension of the drumhead can influence the pitch and tone of the drum. Drummers often experiment with different combinations of drumheads to achieve specific sounds that suit their playing style and musical genre.
Additionally, there are specialized drumheads designed for specific purposes. For example, bass drumheads are larger and thicker to produce a low, booming sound, while snare drumheads are thin and responsive to create a sharp and crisp sound. Some drumheads also feature built-in dampening systems, such as rings or dots, to control overtones and produce a more focused sound.
Regular maintenance, such as tuning and occasional replacement, is essential to ensure that drumheads produce the desired sound quality. Drummers often develop preferences for specific brands and types of drumheads based on their individual playing styles and musical preferences.

User questions & answers
Question: | Would I need to by this twice for top and bottom heads? Sorry, I'm a new drummer |
Answer: | No, the top “beater” heads are different then the bottom resonate heads., you should not use beater heads as resonate heads unless you looking for a completely strange sounding kit; typically the resonate heads seldom need changing at all just tune them correctly and you should be good to go, usually but not always the beater and resonate heads that are shipped with a NEW kit are not the best, but as a new drummer you can beat the hell out of them as practice then change them out for some quality heads.. hope this helps |
Question: | Good for metal |
Answer: | Yeah. The Tom heads have a real nice fat sound. I used Evans on both my 5 1/2 inch 1967 Ludwig Supraphonic snare and my 6 1/2 Ludwig custom maple snare and then dial it in with Moon Gel if the house requires a dampened sound. Used to use Remo heads for years but really like Evans for their versatility and fat sound. |
Question: | Are these good for toms while playing rock |
Answer: | ABSOLUTELY! What I really like is, I am considered a fairly hard hitter, and after my gig is over the heads still look BRAND NEW! I use them on all my toms 10"12"14"and16" and they have the warmest sound to me... Would recommend! |
Question: | Evans has now revamped all of their heads with a new 360 fit design. I need to know if the ones you have in stock are this model and not older prod |
Answer: | Since the model numbers are remaining the same, there doesn't seem to be a way to tell (here or elsewhere). I have gone back to picking up heads in store, until this is fixed, admittedly at a much higher cost. The 360s are that much better, worth the hassle, and I have been a remo guy for 20+ years. |

Sound Shaping Technology allows the drumheads to be fully optimized for each individual size by varying the thickness and density of the damping material, ensuring greatly improved performance and tone across the entire kit. Unlike other heads that lack SST, Evans EC2s contain the ability to balance attack and tone for each size. The result is a drumhead series fine-tuned for attack, tone, length of sustain, and ease of tuning. Packed with a more balanced and pre-EQ'd sound across the full kit, the Evans EC2 with SST will make your toms sound better than you ever thought possible.

User questions & answers
Question: | What's the difference between the clear and coated versions?i have g1 resonant heads, will these sound good combined? looking for that hard rock/metal |
Answer: | These aren't what you'd traditionally call "coated"..they're frosted, a thinner type of coating, making them translucent, but not 100% clear. More attack but less tone. I play rock/hard rock also, and use the clear ec2's with g1 clear reso's. |
Question: | Does it come with a set for the bottom of the drum |
Answer: | It does not come with them per say, but Evans does make resonant heads in that line. But you must buy those separately. |
Question: | is this the level |
Answer: | Yes. |
Question: | Could I tune these to sound like the Toms from the openening of chop suey! By System of a Down, if I add some dampening / would I need dampening |
Answer: | Yes you could. These heads are meant for metal! Lots of punch, and durable asf! Dampening prolly on the floor tom if your by yourself. But in a band, I wouldn’t dampen anything but the bass drum. 🤘🏻 |

Question: | how many heads are included |
Answer: | This is for one, 14” drum head. |
Question: | Does 14 inch mean 14.5? I’m not too familiar with this and have measured the drum rim to be exactly 14.5 inches. Thanks |
Answer: | Honestly, I’ve never heard of a 14.5 in snare drum made by any drum manufacturer. If you measured 14.5, my guess would be your drum is a 14 in drum. My snare drum and one of my floor toms are both 14 in drums. Measuring from the inside of the rim, they are exactly 14 inches. If you measure from the outside of the rim, it appears to come close to 14.5. Try measuring from the inside of one side to the inside of the other, straight across the drum. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Those heads are for snare, tom 1, tom 2 and floor tom |
Answer: | I wouldn't buy these (10"). Your probably thinking, like me, that these are a quality cymbals. After all their ZILDJAN!!! They probably are very good quality, it sounds, to me, like "tin/ trash can". If you like that sound, that's fine, but for me I prefer a crisper/chick/click sound. I returned them, spent 25-30 more and got Soultone Cymbals VNT-HHT10-10" Vintage Hi Hats Pair. Wow, what a difference! You won't be disappointed! |
Question: | Can i use these for a Sabian set |
Answer: | Hello Timothy. Yes, this cymbal is in the A Zildjian series, top hi hat only. Thank you for your interest! |
Question: | When replacing drum heads is it necessary to replace both top and bottom heads? I am a beginner just wanting to replaced worn heads on used set |
Answer: | It was just the top cymbal. |
Question: | Can i use those drumheads for this drum set? http://www.amazon.com/drum-complete-adult-cymbals-black/dp/b008j1teq8/ref=cm_cd_al_qh_dp_t |
Answer: | No theres is a subtle difference in the sound that you get. |

Question: | Does it come with "base"(botom) drum head |

Question: | Does this product work |
Answer: | Yes, it works great! |
Question: | It doesn't fit my 22" bass drum by a couple of millimeters. Is there a special way to install it |
Answer: | Are you saying that the drum shell is too small or too large in diameter?I have 2 of the Evans heads,(24 in acrylic Bass, and a 22 in wood Tama) and they both fit exactly correct. When I change drum heads I always coat the shell bearing edge with candle wax, or a paraffin block. It seems to help to seat the head smoothly when tuning.Good luckRock On. |

User questions & answers
Question: | My toms are 10.5, 12.5, and 16.8 will these work |
Answer: | They cover both Tom toms floor Tom and snare |
Question: | are these level |
Answer: | Absolutely ... for a dryer sound, lower your bottom head: do not remove bottom head! The remo clear pinstripe are excellent for rock, praise and worship, and jazz. Be sure and get the frosted snare drum head. |
Question: | I notice it say Pack. Is it one of each size or two for both heads of a drum |
Answer: | I'm actually a beginner myself but played with them on and off and what a have found is that I like the sound better with the bottom heads off. It's a little work to get all of the nut holders off. Just do one, one of the toms, take the lower skin off and see if you like the sound better than the other Tom. |
Question: | How much would these resonant on 12 and 16 inch if I put a G1 clear on the 12 and 16 inch as reso heads |
Answer: | Some kits measure the diameter including the rim around the head. do not be fooled these are 10 inch, 12 inch and 16 inches. They are measuring the shell and rim at the widest part, not the size of the top surface of the drum head. but the layout is not common and will be hard to find 3 packs sold like that, i saw them in a few brands, but this is not a match for you. look for 10, 12 and 16. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can you use it for bongo |
Answer: | You aren't measuring your drums correctly. Drums sizes are nearly always in round numbers. So you probably have a 10 inch, 12 inch and 16 inch set. And again this wouldn't be the set for you, as these are for 12, 13 and 16 inch drums. When you measure your drums, measure just the head, not the whole drum. |
Question: | Can I use this to replace a drum head on an 8 inch practice pad |
Answer: | If I recall correctly yes. But, when I get to my set I will double check and update. |
Question: | Is this a resonant head |
Answer: | It's just the batter heads only. |
Question: | how to correctly order correct size drum heads |
Answer: | It's the exact setup I have and it sounds phenomenal |

Question: | what is the size of the hole |
Answer: | I'm not sure but I can just slide my beta sm 91 in there. Shure mic |
Question: | Is evans emad system pack, 22 inch comes in 2 pcs (front & back |
Answer: | Yes |
Question: | Does it come with the hardware needed to attach to the base drum |
Answer: | It comes with a batter head and a ported front head but hardware. You would use the lugs and claws that are on your bass drum if you have them. |
Question: | I have a tension watch for my drum heads what should I tune this head to to play heavy metal |
Answer: | Loosen all the lugs first , then finger tighten all the lugs , push down on the rim with both hands and body weight in 4 different points , then finger tighten the lugs again . Once that is done 1/4 turn all the lugs than 1/4 turn all the lugs again . That what I do . If your personal preference is tighter than that use 1/4 turns only so you don't have the rim and the head seat uneven . If their is to much boom tighten the front head 1/4 turns and try it until the boom is gone or as close to gone as you can get it . I also have a pillow in it to soak up the sound . Hope this helps you . |

User questions & answers
Question: | Los parches son de aceite |
Answer: | The coating is the same. The fusion title indicates the sizing of the heads included in the pack 10, 12, 14. Standard packs are 12, 13, 16. Rock or new fusion are typically 10, 12, 16. |
Question: | What heads are include in this package? And will they fit standard size drums |
Answer: | Yes |
Question: | can these be used for both batter and resonate heads as the heads that came with the PDP-7 were the same |
Answer: | Can also vouch that they were coated. Amazon gets the picture wrong on a lot of things, and if you ask me, they don't know anything about drum gear, so you should make sure to go by the description, not what's in the picture. Hope that helps. |
Question: | are these complete sets tops and bottoms and do you have to buy the bass skins seperate |
Answer: | Yes |

Question: | This listing does not specify if this is the fusion or standard pack. I want to order the fusion pack. Which pack is this |
Answer: | Si, de doble capa |
Question: | will these heads be a good choice for resonants for my Yamaha stage customs? I just put pinstripes on the batters on the toms and powerstroke 3 for the base and snare batters |
Answer: | There are five heads included in this set. They are drumheads that will fit any standard drum kits that are sizes 8,10,12,14 and 16 inches. They are designed for toms in your set. Remo is a very good brand. I am a rock and blues drummer and they work very well for me. Good luck and enjoy your drumming! |
Question: | Does this really work |
Answer: | The pinstripes are two ply heads. I would stick to a single ply head for the resonant side. I use ambassadors for the bottoms. |
Question: | What are the size included |
Answer: | The products seen here are just batter heads or tops. For the Bass you will need to buy resonate heads separately. Regards |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this head work for any brand? Going to be a gift for my bf & all I know about his drums is the measurement and that he uses a double bass pedal |
Answer: | Any brand and style will fit, based on the drum diameter. This drum head is for the resonant side (the front of the drum) and the batter head is on the side that the pedals are on. There is a difference between resonant and batter heads. I can recommend the Evans EMAD heads for both resonant and batter sides of the drum. |
Question: | Some reviews here say the head pictured is not what they received, even though it sounds great. Can someone confirm that the head has a mic hole |
Answer: | Yes, mine did because this is what I needed. It is better than most because the mic hole is actually a protected hole; not just a cut hole with raw edges. I was very pleased. One wonders with other sizes, however. I bought for my 20" studio kick. |
Question: | What I you cut a large hole in the center of a res head? Does it hurt or help or no difference |
Answer: | The hole is only really designed for using a microphone. Before cutting the whole, position the microphone in different locations to find the best response area and then cut your hole there. We recommend this to cute the hole itself. https://www.amazon.com/Gibraltar-SC-GPHCUT-Bass-Drum-Cutter/dp/B00BAYPO9W Thanks for your interest. Y2PLAY Stores 1-800-695-4808 |
Question: | Can you fit a kickport in this head |
Answer: | The Kickports come with a template to cut the hole as needed to fit the Kickport. You will need to cut the hole to the proper size with any head. Thank you for your interest! Y2PLAY Stores - 800-695-4808. |
