9 best bass drum batter head
A bass drum batter head, also known as a kick drum batter head, is a crucial component of a drum kit, specifically the bass drum. It is a type of drumhead designed to be struck by a beater attached to a bass drum pedal, creating the deep and resonant low-frequency sound that characterizes the bass drum.
Here are some key details about a bass drum batter head:
Material: Bass drum batter heads are typically made of a single-ply or double-ply material. Single-ply heads are thinner and produce a more resonant and open sound, while double-ply heads are thicker and offer more durability and focus in the sound.
Construction: The batter head is the side of the drumhead that faces outward and is struck by the beater. It is stretched tightly over the drum shell and secured with a hoop or rim to maintain tension and produce a clear, powerful sound when struck.
Sound Control: The choice of batter head material and construction can significantly impact the sound of the bass drum. Drummers can select different types of batter heads to achieve the desired tone for their music style. For example, a single-ply head may be preferred for jazz or softer music genres, while a double-ply head may be used in rock or heavy metal for added durability and punch.
Tuning: Tuning the batter head is crucial to achieving the desired pitch and tone from the bass drum. Drummers use a drum key to tighten or loosen the tension rods around the drum's hoop to achieve the desired pitch and resonance. Different tensions can result in various tones, from a deep and boomy sound to a tighter, punchy sound.
Muffling: Drummers often use muffling techniques and accessories to control the sustain and resonance of the bass drum. This can include using dampening materials like pillows, blankets, or specially designed bass drum muffling products to achieve the desired sound.
Brands: Various drumhead manufacturers produce bass drum batter heads, offering a range of options in terms of materials, sizes, and styles. Popular brands include Remo, Evans, Aquarian, and PDP, among others.
In summary, a bass drum batter head is a crucial component of a drum kit's bass drum. It plays a significant role in determining the sound, tone, and character of the bass drum, and drummers carefully choose their batter heads to achieve the desired sound for their musical preferences and styles. Proper tuning and muffling are essential to getting the best performance out of a bass drum batter head.

Question: | what is the size of the hole |
Answer: | I'm not sure but I can just slide my beta sm 91 in there. Shure mic |
Question: | Is evans emad system pack, 22 inch comes in 2 pcs (front & back |
Answer: | Yes |
Question: | Does it come with the hardware needed to attach to the base drum |
Answer: | It comes with a batter head and a ported front head but hardware. You would use the lugs and claws that are on your bass drum if you have them. |
Question: | I have a tension watch for my drum heads what should I tune this head to to play heavy metal |
Answer: | Loosen all the lugs first , then finger tighten all the lugs , push down on the rim with both hands and body weight in 4 different points , then finger tighten the lugs again . Once that is done 1/4 turn all the lugs than 1/4 turn all the lugs again . That what I do . If your personal preference is tighter than that use 1/4 turns only so you don't have the rim and the head seat uneven . If their is to much boom tighten the front head 1/4 turns and try it until the boom is gone or as close to gone as you can get it . I also have a pillow in it to soak up the sound . Hope this helps you . |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this clear or coated? It says clear but the image shows a coated one, same as the description |
Answer: | the hybrid is a very thick head and you must tension it very tight.i would say the hd dry is more suitable for all around playing |
Question: | Is this for the batter side and is this durable |
Answer: | if you exclude the tone disc in the middle of the head both heads are about the same, this head is slightly more durable for heavy hitting while still giving the solid snap. but on the sound/tone scale the B14HW and the G2 are pretty much the same aside from the tone disc in the middle of the head. and they are both slightly left of middle, personally i prefer the B14HW over the coated G2 simply because the B14HW is slightly sharper in attack but doesnt carry as long as the coated G2. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this head work for any brand? Going to be a gift for my bf & all I know about his drums is the measurement and that he uses a double bass pedal |
Answer: | Any brand and style will fit, based on the drum diameter. This drum head is for the resonant side (the front of the drum) and the batter head is on the side that the pedals are on. There is a difference between resonant and batter heads. I can recommend the Evans EMAD heads for both resonant and batter sides of the drum. |
Question: | Some reviews here say the head pictured is not what they received, even though it sounds great. Can someone confirm that the head has a mic hole |
Answer: | Yes, mine did because this is what I needed. It is better than most because the mic hole is actually a protected hole; not just a cut hole with raw edges. I was very pleased. One wonders with other sizes, however. I bought for my 20" studio kick. |
Question: | What I you cut a large hole in the center of a res head? Does it hurt or help or no difference |
Answer: | The hole is only really designed for using a microphone. Before cutting the whole, position the microphone in different locations to find the best response area and then cut your hole there. We recommend this to cute the hole itself. https://www.amazon.com/Gibraltar-SC-GPHCUT-Bass-Drum-Cutter/dp/B00BAYPO9W Thanks for your interest. Y2PLAY Stores 1-800-695-4808 |
Question: | Can you fit a kickport in this head |
Answer: | The Kickports come with a template to cut the hole as needed to fit the Kickport. You will need to cut the hole to the proper size with any head. Thank you for your interest! Y2PLAY Stores - 800-695-4808. |
