Question:	The information above says these filters are three inches in diameter. What is the correct size
Answer:	It doesn't actually say anything about that. I pulled out the information included in the box and it said nothing about that. I checked General Ecology's site and they have some information on who all has done tests on their products (but not the results or what was tested) and information on the filter in general, but nothing specific. My best guess is that it's practically indefinite-meaning an adult's lifetime-as long as it hasn't been used. That is typical of really good filters. Once it has been used, that's a different matter. If it sits for long periods of time after being used I would not plan on getting a full lifetime out of it. If it filters really dirty water and then sits, it has potential to clog, or for that matter it can clog while filtering dirty water. I'm afraid that's the best I can do without more information from the manufacturer.

Answer:	I just recieved this pump and found that it comes with its own vial of blue food coloring. Of course I didn't realize that until after I tested it with my own, I was too excited to even finish looking through the box. Yes, I did read the instructions first! Some great reviews below emphasizing the importance of proper care.

Answer:	I've used it for several years. While hiking the Arizona Trail over 40 days/800 miles I did pump some pretty skanky water from cattle tanks. The water going in was pretty murky, the water coming out was fine. Life of the filter cartridge depends on what kind of muck you put thru it, and how well you maintain it.
