User questions & answers

Question: how long does it take to grind
Answer: Some residual liquid ending up in the pod reservoir is normal after a brew. Water leaks into that pod reservoir when the lever and pressure is lifted. Liquid also leaches out of the spent pods when they are sitting in the pod reservoir. However if this is a significant loss in liquid ending of in your cup, then there is something wrong with the seal and this machine needs to be replaced. If that is the case, please reach out to us so we can help resolve the issue.

User questions & answers

Question: Does this newer model also require modification to produce consistent grind for French press
Answer: If you do fine powder for Turkish coffee - about 20-40 minutes. The grinder just doesn't bite into the beans and spins without any effect. For general purpose (ground coffee) into Turkish - about 5 minutes. In outher words unusabe for fine grind.
Question: Did anyone receive instructions in english? the ones i received were entirely in japanese
Answer: I had the *exact* same issue. I learned by tapping the unit on the side until the handle jiggles up and down makes it much easier to then simply lift the handle off the top.**UPDATE Fe b 20th** Nevermind, it has now become almost impossible to remove the handle. I now loathe trying to remove the top since it could take anywhere from 3 minutes - 10 minutes... along with a bruised palm of my hand.
Question: Is there different grind settings
Answer: Well yes, I can't see why you couldn't. If you unscrew the bottom container it would just fall out the bottom, directly over what ever you choose for it to fall into.
Question: What's the difference between the old model and the new one
Answer: I do not know of an official grind size guide. There is a range of ideal settings for any brewing method, since light and dark roasts tend to fragment differently. For French press (coarse grind), I have had good results with 9-13 clicks from the finest setting (9=light roast; 13=French roast). For Melitta manual drip pour-over (fine grind), I get good results with 5-8 clicks, depending upon the bean. I used 7 clicks for a medium roasted Ethiopian bean the other day and brewed some of the best coffee I've ever had. Hope this helps.

User questions & answers

Question: Can i take the top lid off from the grinder section? the lid seems pretty tight. i don't want to force it. is there a trick to opening it
Answer: First, this Coffee Mill came with a japanees owners manual only, unfortunately i can't read one Word. English or German would have been fine.Second, whatever I tried I could not get it to grind anything. It looks pretty but I did not order it for decoration.
Question: How do you wash this? Can you submerge it in water? Can you take it apart to wash the ceramic burrs
Answer: Mine were in English.
Question: Can you change the grind size
Answer: The coarseness of the grind can be adjusted manually. There are no preset grind settings.
Question: Is this hario cmhn-4 made in japan? the cm502c was supposed to be made in japan but says made in china on the box
Answer: There are inconsistencies in the part numbering from manufacturer. I purchased a skerton in 2014 for $27 in 2014 and still am very happy with product. I recently purchased a second (new model MSCS-2B) for $56 which is the darker color. It takes twice as many turns to grind and there is no improvement in the espresso grind. I am trying to figure out what the extra cost is for. I looked in purchase history and the first skerton I purchased for $27 has same part number as new one for $56.

You slide in the direction of the the lip part and it will slide off completely, so you can load the beans in for grinding, then you slide it back on prior to grinding.
Question: How do I adjust the type of grind? Ex, coarse, fine, etc
Answer: absolutely can submerge-dry thoroughly immediately. Don't know if the burr can be removed separately...
Question: How many oz of coffee grinds will this make
Answer: YES. You can achieve a good pour over or French press grind You can experiment, there’s also a video online Grind can get as close to espresso, but I personally use it only for pour overs
Question: Does this have any glass or other fragile parts? I need a manual grinder that I can be confident won't break in checked luggage
Answer: The glass canister and the ceramic mill are both listed as made in Japan on my grinder. Some of the other parts are made in China, but listed as assembled in Japan

User questions & answers

Question: By "natural" does this mean that no chlorine was used to bleach them
Answer: No plastic parts. just a little rubber gasket where the grinder fits into the cup that holds it in place as you grind.
Question: does it work with
Answer: yes. its near the top and looks quite nice.
Question: Is the white Hario filter paper chlorine bleached? I can't find an answer on their website. Thanks
Answer: I put a 1/4 cup of beans in the hopper, and the drawer is about 3/4 full of grounds after grinding--measured inside dimensions of drawer, 2 1/8-inch by 2 3/8 by 1 1/14 inch. It's a very small grinder, but it grinds enough grounds for my seven-cup (about 5 oz each) drip pot. So far, I'm very satisfied with the coffee grinder.
Question: Is this the newer "tabbed" filters, or the older and thinner filters that they used to have
Answer: Yes, they are conical burrs. If you check my review, I did test it by making French press coffee. For coarse grinds it is not as consistent as a high-end electric grinder, but I found its performance to be pretty good and better than other Hario hand grinders (Skerton, Mini Mill).

Hario Mizudashi Cold Brew Coffee Pot, 1000 ml, Black

Hario

Based on 6 reviews Check latest price

Product description

Hario does it again with their Cold Brew coffee maker. The simplicity is what makes this coffee brewer better than the next. All you have to do is place about 80g/2.8oz of your favorite coffee grinds and then top it off with water. Stir it for a bit until all the grounds have been soaked. Place it in your refrigerator overnight ( 8hours) and enjoy the full bodied, rich taste of cold brewed coffee. There's nothing like it.

  • Brews about 4-4.5 cups of coffee
  • No replacement filters needed (wash and re-use)
  • Slender spout for slow, steady and controlled pouring.
  • Dishwasher safe
  • Made with high quality heatproof glass

User questions & answers

Question: Do you have to "brew" on the counter or can I throw it in the fridge right away
Answer: I'm not sure what "natural" means. The paper on last batch I ordered was white as the driven snow. I suspect paper was dyed.
Question: How does this compare to the Toddy cold coffee brewer
Answer: I’ve bought the size 3 to use with my 8 Cups Chemex and out of the 100, only about 5 collapsed and only because they were misplaced. So with that being said, I thing 10 bucks for 100 filters is better than 40 dollars to get the branded ones.
Question: This cold brew is not that strong at all. Is there any way to brew it in a way so it's stronger? Mine is very weak
Answer: I'm not sure, however, the answer from Greggles is incorrect. Chlorine bleach is regularly used and is food safe. It's likely that most of the produce you've eaten was soaked in a chlorine bleach solution to remove pesticides. It's fine.
Question: My instructions are only in Japanese. Where can I find English instructions
Answer: I learned, through a YouTube video, that there are 3 different types of white Hario V60 02 filters being sold by Hario these days, sold in three different types of packaging. The original un-tabbed filter with the thinner paper and faster drip time is made in Japan, sold in a box, and is available only in the 40 count size. All other sizes come from one of the other two factories that are currently making Hario filters. The "crinkly bag" package of tabbed filters is made in a different factory in Japan. The material is thicker and the brew time is longer. A third kind, also tabbed, sold in shrink-wrap, is made in the Netherlands. Its brew time is longest of the three. If you're looking for the original un-tabbed filter, buy the box of 40.

Product description

Designed for manual, pour-over style coffee brewing. Brews one to three cups at a time. Works well with V60 size 02 paper or cloth filters. Very hands-on brewing, allowing you, the user, to control brewing time and temperature. Ceramic body is durable and helps prevent heat loss during the brewing cycle.

  • Durable, ceramic body retains heat to help ensure a constant temperature throughout the brewing cycle.
  • Cone shape helps to better accentuate coffees with floral or fruit flavor notes.
  • Spiral ribs allows for maximum coffee expansion.
  • Large single hole can change coffee taste according to the speed of water flow.
  • Designed and manufactured in Japan

User questions & answers

Question: It says "user controls the flow." How does the user do that
Answer: Designed for cold brew--put in fridge right away.
Question: Can you use filters from other manufacturers such as Melita
Answer: Waaaaay easier, toddy took a simple thing, made it a gimick and sold it, this emersion method is way easier, I've done it now 2 months, did toddy method for 2 yrs. This is easy, I fill the basket 1/2 with grounds, then water to saturate, then stir; then fill the other half with grounds, and finish with the water, total of 8 full table spoons coffee to 1 qt watet. I wait about 12- 14 hrs
Question: You said that the size of the base is 3 3/4 inches, is that the very bottom (smaller part) of the base? Or the wider lip that rests on the rim
Answer: The measurements recommended are not for those of us who like strong cold brew coffee. I personally use the Mizadushi with a 110grams of espresso roast or dark roast ground to a medium/coarse grind and left to brew for 18-24 hrs and that has made some pretty amazing cold brew for my tastes! For reference, I generally prefer Starbucks cold brew over just about any other because no one else I’ve found will make it as strong as Starbucks. However the cold brew I’ve made with this method has been even better, using a variety of beans for my brews.
Question: Is this ceramic lead free
Answer: You can access the Japanese/English version here: http://www.hario.jp/pdf/MCPN-7%20Instruction%20Manual.pdfThis is for the 600ml cold brew, but the instructions are the same for all of the Hario cold brew coffee pots. This has both Japanese AND English instructions listed here.

  • Perfect for brewing cold iced coffee by just adding coffee grounds and water
  • Put the coffee grounds in the strainer and set the lid
  • Gently shake the bottle to start the extraction
  • 5 Cup Capacity
  • Heatproof glass

User questions & answers

Question: Can I use 200°f hot water for this bottle?? Thanks
Answer: The user is controlling the flow because he/she is pouring the hot water into the funnel (which contains the filter with coffee grounds in it) from a kettle. This is important and is the reason why the 'pour over' method of brewing coffee is best done using a kettle with a very small spout - more control.
Question: If I store the bottle on its side, does it leak? My fridge shelf won't fit anything taller than 10 inches
Answer: It is also compatible with bonmac's #2 filters (http://www.intelligentsiacoffee.com/product/merchandise/hario-dripper-filters) and modified Melitta filters (http://www.amazon.com/Melitta-622712-White-Paper-Filter/dp/B000RUEGHQ). This is because the Hario is a true cone. Other drippers have a flattened basin. As one reviewer describes it, "great swapout is a #2 Melitta white cone filter, available in many grocery stores (note: oxygen whitened, not chlorine). You will need to put a fold into the Melitta. Set the filter on the counter and fold it at a right angle, using one tip of the cone base as the corner for forming the 90 degree angle. Put the filter into the dripper and open it. Don't feel compelled to flatten it out against the dripper. The raised ridges (fluting) of the Hario ensures that the filter doesn't hug the dripper wall, facilitating better flow." source: http://coffeegeek.com/reviews/drip/hariov60/BoldJava/5675Personally, I've not had a good experience attempting to use Melitta filters. The paper, even unbleached, is much thinner than that of the other two filter varieties and prone to breaking. Not a huge problem. Coffee can be strained or drunk with grounds in, but it is a tiny added frustration, so I've stick to Bonmac/Hario filters.Hario filters are the best price if you're comfortable purchasing them with frequency through Amazon, but Melitta are available in most local grocery stores. The Bonmac filters are often stocked at local coffee shops that utilize Hario drippers.
Question: Can you make concentrated cold brew or is it designed to just make regular coffee that doesn't have to be diluted
Answer: Very bottom (ring) is 2 and 1/2" o.d. (i.d. gives 2 and 1/8"); this is the part that sits in your cup. The base that rests on the cup is about 4 and 1/4".
Question: Can I make cold brew tea with this? or is the teapot version better for tea
Answer: i recently emailed “hario” about the v60 white ceramic dripper and whether or not it contains lead and they responded with this Thank you for contacting HARIO. We received your inquiry in regards to your question about the VDC-02W. VDC-02W is lead free. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you. Answer: I just put mine in the door, but you don’t need to refrigerate this to make cold brew. You can brew on your counter.
Question: What are the dimensions of the individual filter
Answer: Here are the instructions:Using coarse-ground coffee, fill the nylon filter basket until you've reached the top of the filter itself, leaving room at the top.Pour filtered, cold or room temperature water over the grounds.Leave to steep for 12-24 hours, less or more to taste.
Question: What are the dimensions of the individual filter
Answer: We have both tea and coffee versions and they're awesome, I love the styling. The coffee version should work for both (the tea one would not). However, for tea (and coffee too) my husband and I find we want a bigger glass or multiple glasses and these wine bottle style only holds 2-3 glasses before you need to review. We've gone up to the Hario pitcher version (still glass but 1 or 1.2L vs 0.6L and footprint barely larger). If you wait the brew time, why not have a tad more. We're also totally hooked on picked camomile and mint leave cold brew, delicious!
