Treacle Pudding

Apparently, Harry loves anything treacle. He’s always reaching for the treacle tart, and he seems to really like the treacle pudding Mrs. Weasley prepared for dessert the night before he left the Burrow for Hogwarts (see Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Chapter 5).

Treacle is like molasses and is made during sugar refining. Black treacle is like dark molasses, and light treacle is also called golden syrup, which can be found in some supermarkets and specialty food stores. The light variety is so good that if you buy it you might find yourself sneaking spoonfuls every now and then.

1. Fill a large pot with water and place a shallow bowl upside down inside the pot. Bring the water to a boil. Butter and flour a 2½-quart round baking dish or glass bowl and its lid; set aside.

2. Whisk the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt together in a mixing bowl and set aside. In a large mixing bowl, beat the butter, sugar, and the ⅓ cup golden syrup or molasses, scraping down the sides of the bowl as needed, until light and fluffy, about 5 minutes. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing at medium speed until incorporated, about 30 seconds after each. Add the lemon zest and juice and beat until incorporated. Scrape down the sides and add the flour mixture alternately with the milk, mixing on the lowest speed just until incorporated and beginning and ending with the flour. Use a rubber spatula to scrape the sides and bottom and fold the mixture together.

3. Pour the ½ cup golden syrup or molasses into the bottom of the baking dish or glass bowl. Scrape the batter into the dish and smooth the top with the rubber spatula. Cover tightly with the lid and place it in the pot on top of the overturned bowl, making sure the water comes halfway up the sides. Cover the pot and simmer for 2½ hours. Check every so often to see if more water needs to be added (don’t let the pot boil dry).

4. Remove the pudding from the pot. Remove the lid and invert the pudding onto a serving dish. Serve with warmed golden syrup.

User questions & answers

Question: One place says 100% man-made another says leather and sheepskin which is it
Answer: I can only speak for the pair I bought on close out on Amazon, and the wool is actual sheep hide. I know because I’ve raised sheep for many many years. Regrettably my pair is made in china so I will not buy another unless that changes. Only buy if it says 100% wool, then return if it’s not because that would then be deceptive advertising.
Question: How wide does (W) mean
Answer: My husband wears a 4E (new balance) and he says they are plenty wife enough for him
Question: Under this product desription, 1) description says 100% sheepskin lining. description 2) says completely man made materials...so??? which is it
Answer: 100% sheepskin insoles, the rest man made materials.
Question: What does 2e, 5e, and d(m)? if i'm a size 10-10.5, how do i select the correct size
Answer: I wear a size 8.5 us-54 e is it shows can you tell me what I can wear can I wear a 9 and a 4in o v e or something on that line so I could find a slipper.

User questions & answers

Question: Is there wool in the shoes
Answer: Yes, they are lined with what appears to be genuine wool.
Question: What size should I get if I take 7 1/2M womens
Answer: Probably an 8 though a 7 might work too Iam an 8 1/2 and got an 8 and they fit fine
Question: is the footbed removable to accomadate orthodics
Answer: yes, they are removable. I love these moc's. I have weird feet and these are very comfortable.
Question: Can these be machine wasted
Answer: I agree with the other respondent: you probably wouldn't want to wash these slippers because of the sheepskin fabric. I have already written my opinion of these loafers in a previous review and update. If you have already purchased them, good luck! But again, definitely don't put them into the washer. If you haven't purchased them don't "waste" your money. As I noted in my review, after about three months, the soles developed a very deep cut along the side. I will be searching for NEW slippers in the near future. These loafers will NOT be on my list.

Question: I wear a size 11 3e shoe. should i order 11 wide or 12 wide in these old country cloth lined slippers
Answer: I bought these for my fiancee last year and they were pretty spot on with the size....I would order the 11 wide if you wear an 11
Question: I have ordered these for a few years now and I noticed this time what used to say 100% suede says 100% synthetic. Is this correct
Answer: No, they where two big.
Question: My husband has a pair of Old Friend slippers and loves them..Can they be washed

User questions & answers

Question: Do they run true to size
Answer: Yes. They run pretty true to size. The toe box of the shoe is roomy which is what my husband needed due to his diabetic neuropathy. The shoes can be made a little more loose or more snug using the hook & loop closure. I hope you find this helpful
Question: what country makes this slipper
Answer: Mine, that fell apart, were made in China.
Question: Are the insoles removable
Answer: There are no insoles. Nothing is removable.
Question: What does the 2E and 5E stand for. I know its width but how wide
Answer: I bought a pair one whole size larger than my shoe size and bought the widest width, a 5E. I have worn shoes with a 6E width. It is unsual to find anything wider unless you buy a shoe especially designed for super extra width. Most shoes end at a 4E and consider this a big deal in width. A 2E is often consider an extra width common for shoes. Every shoe type and design is going to fit different even if the all say 5E or 2E. Often the tie or strap area is not consistent in width with the toe area on an extra wide width. It is frustrating. The height of the toe area is a factor in width, not just the bottom measure of the toe area. So, think of what you buy in a shoe and get it a little bigger and perhaps wider for this shoe. In the end the only way you'll know is the buy and try it on. I am glad with my choice. They got more comfortable for me after I'd worn them a few times. Hope this helps.

User questions & answers

Question: Do these Fit small
Answer: YES! My daughter wears either a 7.5 or an 8 shoe depending on the style. I bought her the large size (8-9) and her heel came to the very back edge of the scuff. This was in bare feet. She did not like that so I had to return them for the 9.5-10.5 size. This size fits her better. Now maybe some people like their foot to sit flush with the end of the scuff. If they do, fine. My daughter said it felt like she was about to loose the scuff, like her foot was about to slip out of it. That said, these were brand new and the sheep skin was still super fluffy. Maybe after a few months of wearing them the sheepskin might get broken down a bit. Time will tell. We exchanged hers for a bigger size.
Question: I'm confused by conflicting reviews. Is the lining of these scuffs real sheepskins fur or is it synthetic? I'm looking for something very plush. Thank
Answer: Not sure but lining is very plush and soft - breaks in easily and very comfy. Doesn't stink so may be real...
Question: Care instructions
Answer: As a previous purchaser wrote, I also wear my slippers indoors. If the soles appear soiled, I just use a slightly soapy sponge to clean them. I also use a brush to give the sheepskin a light brushing off now and then.
Question: Where are these made
Answer: I no longer have the box because my granddaughter loved the dog on it! I am guessing they are made in China. They are extremely well made and worth the money. People have been commenting on the fit, but I have found that all slippers seem to run a bit small. If you are in-between sizes, go up. The "fluff" inside makes them a bit snug at first, but they will mold to fit your foot in a couple times wearing them. This is my second pair over the last couple years. I just like new ones!
