14 best ski boots
Ski boots are a crucial piece of equipment for skiing, and they are specifically designed to provide comfort, support, and control to skiers while navigating the slopes. Here are some key aspects of ski boots:
Purpose: Ski boots are designed to securely connect the skier's feet to the ski bindings, which, in turn, are attached to the skis. This connection is essential for the skier to control the skis and transfer their movements effectively.
Types of Ski Boots:
- Alpine Ski Boots: These are the most common type of ski boots and are used for downhill skiing. They are characterized by their stiff structure, which provides excellent support and control.
- Nordic Ski Boots: Nordic ski boots are designed for cross-country skiing. They are typically lightweight, flexible, and provide ankle mobility to accommodate the skier's stride.
- Ski Touring Boots: Ski touring or backcountry ski boots are designed for skiers who want to explore off-piste terrain. They often have a walk mode for hiking and climbing and can switch between a locked downhill mode for skiing.
Fit and Sizing: Achieving a proper fit with ski boots is crucial for comfort and performance. Ski boots are typically sized using a Mondopoint system, which measures the length of the foot in centimeters. Additionally, ski boot widths vary, with common designations like narrow (often called "narrow" or "98mm last"), medium (often called "medium" or "100mm last"), and wide (often called "wide" or "102mm last"). It's essential to work with a knowledgeable boot fitter to find the right size and width for your feet.
Features: Ski boots come with various features, including:
- Liners: The inner liner of the ski boot provides insulation and comfort. Some liners are heat-moldable for a custom fit.
- Buckles and Straps: Ski boots have buckles or straps that allow you to secure the boots tightly around your foot and leg.
- Flex Rating: Boots have a flex rating that indicates their stiffness. Stiffer boots provide more control but may be less comfortable for beginners.
- Cuff Alignment: Some boots offer cuff alignment adjustments to align the boot's cuff with the skier's leg.
Maintenance: Ski boots require proper care to ensure they remain functional and comfortable. This includes drying them after use, storing them in a cool and dry place, and periodically checking for wear and tear.
Compatibility: Ski boots must be compatible with the specific type of bindings on your skis. Alpine ski boots are designed for alpine bindings, while Nordic ski boots are designed for Nordic bindings.
Comfort and Performance: Finding the right balance between comfort and performance is essential. High-performance skiers may prefer a stiffer boot for better control, while recreational skiers may prioritize comfort.
In summary, ski boots are a critical part of a skier's gear, and selecting the right pair is essential for an enjoyable and safe skiing experience. It's advisable to consult with a professional boot fitter to ensure you choose the right size and type of ski boot that suits your skiing style and skill level.

Roces ski boots are the perfect choice for your child whose foot is still growing (that's probably the majority of them.) IDEA is the first ski boot growing with the kids. Through the patent pending '6in1' technology, it is possible to adjust the size of the ski boot to accommodate the natural growth of the kids' foot. There are two main advantages to getting Roces boots for your junior skier. The first is obvious in that you don't have to constantly buy new boots to get a great fit. Often overlooked is that since you are not getting new boots, you don't need to remount bindings as your child's foot grows, since the sole length of the boot remains the same as you expand and contract the fit.
- '6in1' technology, it is possible to adjust the size of the ski boot to accommodate the natural growth of the kids' foot
- One micro adjustable plastic buckle
- Soft flexing youth ski boot
- Sole length of the boot remains the same as you expand and contract the fit, so no need to remount ski binding to accommodate a growing foot.
- Forefoot width is approximately 101mm.

User questions & answers
Question: | I have an almost 2 year old that wears size 7 in shoes. What is best size to get him |
Answer: | Don't use the provided measurement chart that's featured on this listing. I measured my foot several times to make sure I had the correct measurement, and my foot is 25 cm... which translates to an 8 according to THIS size chart, but every other size chart I've found on the internet says that a 25cm foot translates to a size 9. I definitely am a size 9 or 9.5 (if I want more room for thick socks). I actually have these boots in a size 10, and they were fine for REALLY thick socks, but I probably would have done best with a 9.5. |
Question: | Are these easy to walk in for a newer walker |
Answer: | Yes, they are waterproof, unless you're looking at standing in water for a long period of time. I've stepped through creeks, and puddles, and have never had my feet get wet. Would I trust them standing in the creek for an hour or two, I don't think so. (But if that's what you're looking for, I'd suggest neoprene boots, not these). They are warm, winter boots that are waterproof well beyond the extent most people would need them to be. I own a pair of these and just ordered another (I've had mine for 4+ years). They still function just fine, but they 're looking worn is all. |
Question: | Is there fleece on the inside, or is it the same type of material as shown on the outside? Description doesn't say. Thank you |
Answer: | I have two kids that wear this specific size (This boot and another style), one wears youth 4.5 (with A Salomon 4-buckle) and the other a youth 5.5 or 6 who Wears this boot. This boot is looser fitting than some of the 4-buckle styles (3 buckle is generally considered lower technical performance). All in all there is some trial and error. The boot should be snug, but not tight. There are micro-adjustments in the buckles. The company provides a size chart, if not on Amazon, then elsewhere. |
Question: | Do these run true to size for toddler 1-4 years |
Answer: | Yes, with socks they should fit well. I ordered an 8 for a normal 7.5 wear. |
