It's plastic. It works well. I've had mine for more than a year. The hinge has come off the peg a few times when I mistreated it, but I carefully put it back on without forcing the hinge itself. I don't know if there's a warranty, but even if there was stipulations would prevent most people from being able to utilize it. Stipulations such as weight limits and unusual usage which aside from factory defect or shipping damage would be the most likely cause for this to break.
