Answer: I shaped the bone with files from 800 to 1200 size. Then i put sandpaper from 900-2000 grit on a level plate called a float plate and made sure they were perfectly straight and flat. I measured the thickness with a metal-working micrometer and measured the larger dimensions with dial calipers. You don't have to go to all this trouble, but that's how I did it. Best of luck -- my bone saddle sounds great!

The Grover should work but your strings are going to be uber high, not really a problem for a lap steel, but just saying. My big issue with the Grover is the string spacing, approx 1-11/16" overall with 5/16" between strings, I have 2 that I couldn't use on slide guitars as it placed the strings off the fretboard, again as said probably not an issue with lap steels.
